Oh that's great, I actually quite like using the TDS 750 in the -200 aircraft anyway so if that takes care of the biggest issues I'm a happy man.

Yep - we had a group flight in it yesterday and the 750 worked the comms and nav great.  I love the 100 series and it was great to fly.

If you use Say Intentions, that will change the comms for you, however it's the NAV where the 750 steps in and helps, at least in the meantime.

So I purchased through Aerosoft and carried out my first flights in the -100 and -100F. ( haven't flown the Super 27 yet). Having now packaged the 100, 100F and the Super 27 in one download, the

  • Thanks much for the updates and test flights... about the (FSS) 727-100...in MSFS... Greatly interested in this one.  I was just now looking into the (CS) 727-100 variants, on top of the bas

My dad flew the 100’s for UAL. Said it was his favorite airliner because of the power (he was prior-USN, so he cared about that!).

IDK about ground speeds and riding the brakes. Someone more knowledgeable will have to weigh in there.

Did you ever get to see the cockpit up close…when you were a child…🙂…?

The UAL one I visited in Chicago Museum, on weekends had occasionally (retired) UAL 727 Captains to talk to…it was nice…

Excellent, thanks.  I use BATC so I assume that will also change the comms for me.

Got it, love it. I do like the stubbies of most aircraft best. I always feel that was the way the aircraft was initially designed, and so has the most pure proportions and dimensions. All the later stretched versions of most planes are a bit like a bit like a perfectly healthy and fit six foot athlete suddenly growing another 18 inches tall but not putting on any weight. It just don't look right.

I even reinstalled P3D recently just so I could run the CSS 737-100.

And bring on the 747-SP, now there's the Queen of the stubbies!

(and just had one test flight in the -100, with a magnificently horrible cabin decor. So appallingly '70s - wonderful!)

I think the stubbies are designed partly with the 'Golden Ratio' aesthetic  in mind. Every extension after that gradually destroys it!

No. No, Mav, this is not a good idea.

Sorry Goose, but it's time to buzz the tower!

Just arrived into PVR.  No issues on the flight down and everything worked as it should.  Burned a little less fuel than I thought I would and could have loaded a bit less or gone faster.  Average speed was in the low Mach .80 range.  Landed with 12,000 lbs remaining!

The plane flew beautifully other than being a bit of a floater when touching down and that was probably just me getting used to it.

Only issue was a bit of ghosting where the front landing gear door would be when panning around in exterior view.  Interestingly the anomaly went away completely as the sun was heading towards the west.

It Looks Great!!! Might get it. But I still prefer the -200 without the hushkits (standard model). I wonder if FSS will consider doing the -200 without the hushkit

If they do I'll get.

I really hope they do and I don't think its a difficult thing for the modeler to do.  I believe I have heard the non hushkit models are supposed to make a come back but it has not happened yet.  The non hushkited model was originally available on the freighter version of the 200 but FSS decided to take it away!

I don't think FSS is anything like PMDG so hopefully they listen and deliver.

thanks good to hear.....

I went ahead and bought the -100 tonight, man this thing is great!  Such a little rocket ship.  I had no activation issues and the radio issue is mitigated by using the GTN750 as suggested.

The only issue I’m having (I also had it with the -200) is that I can’t get IAS Hold to engage.  As I understand it, this should capture the current speed and change v/s in climb to maintain that speed?  When I select it, the aircraft does not hold the speed.

Beyond that, I’m having a blast with the 727.  I hadn’t flown it in ages so it’s nice to see how well it’s come along.

Anyone else having these issues? Switches stop working after a while, become un-clickable, Opening the large cargo door causes the plane to crash while sitting on the tarmac, zoom in VR is WAY too zoomy sometimes putting the view right outside the plane.

As far as I know the 727 never had an actual auto throttle.  It may have been custom added later on some planes and I suppose some of the last built Advanced models might have had one but again I don't think it came from the factory with one most of the time.  The one that is modeled by FSS as an option just strictly controls thrust.  It has been a while since I used it and I seem to remember only bothering to use it on the Super 27.  It took me a bit of time figuring it out.  The air speed indicator has a bug you have to set.  The Auto Throttle option has a button you have to press.  I can't remember if the AP has to be on or in a certain mode but something simple might have to be done here as well.

It does not have any climb air speed hold type functions.  However if you are climbing conservatively it should be able to maintain air speed by increasing thrust as you manually climb.  I hope this helps a bit.  I will have to engage that feature and play with it again.  Its more of a convenience option but comes in handy when you can't baby sit the sim constantly!

Thanks, I've used the autothrottle option successfully, meant for cruise but also usable in descent and even down to final approach.  But according to their manual the IAS Hold mode should be holding the speed when it is engaged, this is from their manual:

IAS HOLD

In this mode the autopilot will vary pitch and attitude to maintain the indicated airspeed existing at the time IAS HOLD is selected.

The autothrottle system of the Boeing 727-100 seems like an interesting topic. I looked a bit on-line while also trying to recall the (old) Captain Sim 727-100 SIM, from years ago.

It appears autothrottle was not standard on the early models (such as the -100). However, indeed, subsequent retrofits added this capability, with airlines like Pan Am so equipping some of their 727s. It operated similarly to later Boeing systems but was simpler, capable of being used in cruise and descent. It required careful management, especially with the older, less precise systems, leading some airlines to disable them.

I do not think the CS 727-100 version simulated the autothrottle function to start with, though, users added such capability to the 727 SIM via customization (so as to hold and maintain the selected airspeed).

Is your question "Which one should you use? ie Auto throttle or IAS hold mode, it is a bit of conundrum. IAS HOLD if you want to fly the aircraft as it intended when it was first built. Auto throttle if you want to replicate those later retrofits.

Beyond Fuel Cut-Off levers I have not setup bindings on my Honeycomb Bravo for IAS so I have to use the pitch wheel which is located on the pedestal and is a particularly annoying manipulation to get right in a critical phase of flight and in turbulence. I only fly with CIV-A INS so I don't know how well IAS HOLD works with other nav systems.

So even though the Auto Throttle feature was only fitted to some B727's in their later lives, I find it much easier to use because you need only to move the airspeed speed bug while still being heads up watching everything else.

However FSS notes the Auto Throttle feature is only partly implemented, so I guess it doesn't work too well with RNAV procedures?
