What's With Frame Gen?

Featured Replies

I found that  insim FSR3 2X worked great on my previous 3060ti.

Now I use insim DLSS FG 4X on my 5060ti.

BTW, nVidia dynamic FG is not worth the hassle IMO.

72 in almost all scenarios running BATC in zero visibility weather. No stutters. Butter smooth. No extra FG mods.

That'sgood to read. x2 giving 72fps correlates with my 33fps at a high impact airport without FG.

There are lots of ways to handle frame generation. The OP said that he downloaded the latest Nvidia video driver and used the Nvidia app to make the commonly used changes in that app. He probably also used DLSS swapper to get the latest two .dll  files. And he had problems.  One thing that can cause issues is not emptying shader cache and rolling cache before making changes like he did. He has better luck with lossless scaling.

He did not say anything about downloading or using the DLSS Enabler mod which is a different thing, but it will add frame generation of a different kind. So, something else to try. With his 4090, instead of using the native FG built into MSFS, or Lossless scaling, the DLSS Enabler mod will provide 2X, 3X, or 4X FG on a 4090.

What kind of framerates does an RTX 4090 deliver in super dense scenery areas at 4K resolution without FG? I assume that PG on, full AI traffic and complex weather can bring even a card with this much power to its knees?

I can say that with the Fenix, Inibuilds Heathrow, Ultra settings without FG, I can get 35 to 40 FPs with a 12700 k and 4090 with 64GB of ram in 4K.

Panning causes the frame time to increase beyond 33ms, thus causing stutters as the frame rate sinks below 30 fps, it then stabilises once you have finished panning.

I lock my frame rate to 30 in sim

Is this with BATC running? and/or with FSLTL?

This is with FSLTL running, but my settings in fsltl are at 30 to 50% levels of the default settings, so there only about 10 or so extra parked aircraft on top of what it normally injects.

I don't use BATC, so can't comment on that.

Ah sure, I am running full on with all the addons and BATC when I get around 33fps. I am aghast at the hit I get when using BATC, I mean, it's a massive hit, about 20-30%.

To be fair, any decent atc app is going to have to take a chunk of performance away from other stuff. Everything costs compute, whichever way you slice it.
