Loved Hi Fi Sim ever since I discovered it in the fs9 & fs2004 days.

 

But if you have turbulence at 100% it's nearly impossible to land because there are huge airspeed shifts during final approach

One thing ASFS does do well at times is presenting the proper cloud conditions/types.  I just tested a scenario where there is a grey stratus overcast (real world conditions) and tested MSFS default WX against ASFS.  MSFS default, although it had the correct cloud height, represented the WX with SCT to BKN tiny white cumulus clouds and of course unlimited visibility.  When I ran ASFS, it put the proper stratus layer in and looked much closer to the actual conditions (still does not do proper visibility).  But yes, that will be 'Global' and you will get the sudden WX shifts but at times I prefer that over the default cloud depictions.  MSFS default WX seems to prefer placing cumulus clouds everywhere vs proper stratus.

Yes, it is almost like the default weather doesn't want to show overcast.  That's not to say it never does it, but it seems more than not, overcast still has holes in it.  That's what drove me to ActiveSky.

This is an ongoing issue that ASOBO has not yet addressed, which is affecting this excellent software. They seem to consider a true visibility feature unimportant. The visibility option, or manual entry, is missing from their code or SDK. Their programmers, actual pilots and testers, overlooked this crucial feature during development and testing. So much for testing. Such an aspect is vital for a realistic simulation. But them.
