XP12 Platform Update presentation at FS Expo 2026

Featured Replies

found the presentation very underwhelming, and short - less than 15 minutes?

I was hoping for something about nextgen scenery, but I guess these foundations need to be built first

Why....

It’s by far XP’s greatest hit to customer satisfaction and prospective customer adoption relative to its 800lb gorilla competition.

Third party devs are only as good as the development tools and their documentation. If you don't want people to carelessly flatten things, design the tools so they're warned of the consequences and have a comprehensive user manual and official* "good practice" guide that makes them aware of what happens when the local mesh is manipulated.

Might help if they actually used their own products in X-Plane for some quality control before putting them on the market.

Next gen scenery should be priority 1

I'm a bit confused by this. Because the Scenery Tile Engine IS going to be part of next-gen scenery. What makes you think it isn't priority 1?

Well, how does that expression go? "Buyer beware"?

Good instructions are great - but you need 100% of all people to read, understand and agree to them, if you want 100% of all airports authored correctly. We learned from the Gateway that a good percentage of artists are willing to make good and compliant airports - but there is a sizeable fraction that does not care or is able to understand, and letting everyone manipulate the mesh together with a "comprehensive user manual" is like handing out scalpels in 1st grade after admonishing everyone to not cut into their fellow students 😅

A good part of that sizeable fraction is likely to make compliant airports if there was an overall "good practice" guide that could be thrown at them. The link to it could be part of some splash screen in WED. This should make things easier for the gateway mods as well, who can simply point to that guide instead of pointing out the same mistakes over and over again.

gateway mods

Is only one gateway mod, and specs constantly change. Just got one back, nothing wrong with it, but mentioned better texture option to the old G10, so now i have to fix something that is really not broken. Though i suspect the older textures may disappear at some stage, which means a lot of airport updates

That is why I almost never just "update" my airport work. I strip everything off and rebuild from the runway up. Ben said they will honor the work of WED artists in the upcoming "finer mesh" so boundaries are very important. I re-align pavement type and seam directions to be more realistic, remove all autogen trees and deprecated objects and facades, replace flat top hangars with gabled tops where appropriate, replace unrealistic ramp starts, update all taxiway and ramp markings and lighting and try to use the most accurate and appropriate library items available at the time. It doesn't really take that much more time and eliminates with threat of deprecation or rejection.

Wasnt like that, ye have to replace deprecated item, errors, these are not deprecated items. Not so sure they look any diff to what i used. And latest ver.

You can ignore deprecated items and just let the auto-update conversion turn them into whatever they think is current. But that doesn't always result in the best replacement for existing deprecated items. By using current library items for XP12.4 you extend the working life of those items.

I have done a few.

I saw this on the org, a nice overview of the X plane 12 presentation was given by Stephen of "Xplane review". It really goes into depth over the graphic portion who some on here are wondering what's next. He explains it all in this link below.

I gotta say, alot of that seems generated and hallucinated. I wouldn't be trusting that and instead... watch the presentation yourself.

Well it appears he is being too speculative in his review vs looking at the actual presentation as well as the interview with Ben at the FSExpo. I thought I had miss something when they posted Stephen review link on the org.
