A nice surprise when I launched MSF2024 earlier this evening. FS Reborn has released a free update to the Sting S4, for 2024 users. The plane is now native 2024 and chocks and covers can be clicked on the walkaround.

Great news and appreciated for free (although there are no new features, so I don't think they would/could have charged).

I was hoping that with this native recompile, they might have used the amazing custom Rotax sounds from their other LSA - the TL3000 Sirius - But alas, for reasons unknown the Sting S4 is still aliased to the default MSFS Rotax sounds. The custom sounds they used with the TL3000 Sirius are some of the best Rotax 912 sounds in MSFS ..... can't understand why they wouldn't use them in the new Sting. I guess they want different sounds between the two addons (even though they use the same engine!).

So no updates per se, it's just that you can now get out and walk around, MSFS2024 style.

If that is it, I wonder why it took so long?

edit - and it STILL needs an external mod to use the TDS GTN 750 🤣

Why it took so long? Cause Raul - like I suppose you also - needs to pay bills and feed a family and therefore releasing a new plane the Phenom had higher priority. And converting the complete project to the new structure is a big technical update in the background that actually consumes time. There is no take this 2020 package and convert to native magic tool. The external mod for TDS is needed cause the WT G3X is not hot swappable sadly. And we did not want to provide a third variant option.

Exactly that was the idea behind. Laying the 2024 native foundation for free for existing customers. But its both for the Sirius and the Sting not the end of life as especially the Sting has a special place in the teams heart. We have more plans for both. The Sounds are noted. If it would just be an alignment we would have done it. But the soundset it needs to be adapted quite a bit.

FSReborn is a team as you acknowledge in your second post - this isn't down to one person not having the time. The aircraft was already '2024 ready', goodness knows we were made to feel grateful for that from the start. As for not being able to use TDS - how do other developers do it? You say that it isn't possible but then also say that you don't want to provide the option?

Does the aircraft now take full advantage of 2024 CFD?

You seem to want to do some fighting about words here, aren't you? 😂 Raul is the one single main developer. With team I actually refer to the Dev, the testers, the moderators on his discord. But sure you will come up with another interpretation 🙃 Re the TDS: provide an example of another 2024 native plane with WT G3X and hot swap function for TDS GTN then, please? I was unhappy about the mod option also but its the way to go with the G3X sadly. And with option I was referring to a third option in the aircraft selection screen dedicated to TDS. In the end the TDS is only avail on PC so the mod approach is sufficient for most users. For consoles TDS is not avail.

Sorry if it sounded overreacting, wasn't my intention. But nowadays you have to deal a lot with a community - and not referring to you here - that actually approach you entitled with more knowledge than anybody else (amazingly even more knowledge than the dev and certified pilots on this type), demanding and even insulting, toxic or agressive. You really have to grow a thick skin to handle all this without getting it personal. The internet anonymity (some people think they have) seems to trigger people. There are still a lot of nice and constructive discussions so there is still hope. So being (overly) defensive is prob a side effect.

And yes, I know what you have done with the "other main developers". I will def need some reviewer for answering you to be on the safe side as I'm no native speaker 😂

Probably because Raul has been very busy with other stuff, like the Phenom 300E and the Piper M600!

I'm happy to finally have the Sting as a native 2024 model (and excited for the Sirius, as that's my personal favourite between the two). I do appreciate that the Sirius sound pack would need some changes before being used in the Sting. It just seemed like an opportunity, rather than a necessity, as the default sounds in the Sting are quite lacklustre, whereas the Sirius sounds are fantastic.

There are some. The FlySimWare C24 Sierra would be the best example. It provides G3X, G5, PMS and TDS options, hot-swappable and usable immediately.

I own the Sierra, too. Wonderful addon and Momo did a real nice job with it. But its a 2020 plane and not using the 2024 G3Xv2. Its coming with a custom G3Xv1. Plus you have to select by livery which plane version you want. And there is no hot swapping for the nav instruments for the GTNs on the G3X versions. I'm still not aware of any 2024 native addon using the G3Xv2 that would support that. But if you have other examples let them come. Always happy to learn.

Oh yes. The sounds. I actually had the luck to fly with one of our rw pilots the exact Sirius from which the sounds were recorded on a testflight to record some data. That was a fun day I will remember for quite some time.

Ah, I see. That is fair enough.

I am sure I saw one of the WT guys explaining that hot swapping avionics is a bad idea. I didn't really understand the technicalities but it was something to do with setting up something when the aircraft is loaded which can't be done when swapping avionics after loading. He said different avionics packages should be different variants.
