Grey circle under vertical speed on boeing 737 mcp?

basically theres grey circle under the vert speed indicator on the 737, its not mentioned on any flight manual i found and it has a small black outline and its translucent so clearly its meant for something, on the winwing panel it doesnt light up or anything when testing the lights and ive never seen it in use, its just been bugging me for a while and i wanna know what that is

I guess it's a brightness sensor. But it's just a guess.

cheers,

I'd be able to tell you, but as you've hosted with Imgur and not postimages, lots of us just get this when we click on your image:-

Postimages is the easiest image hosting site to use. Just drag it in, then click to copy the direct link url.

https://postimages.org/

Everyone can see images on Postimages. If you use imgur, no-one in the UK, Ireland and half of Europe can see your images.

It is a photovoltic sensor, just like on the PFD/ND to control brightness based on ambient light.

On Collins MCP it is a white light sensor.

Thanks!

@Sparkrite beat me to it. It's an ambient light sensor that attempts to ensure that the MCP displays remain readable it different levels of ambient light.
