  1. I have a GF4 TI4200 as well -- just OK that message and the next one that pops up. After that the platency will be permenently set to 64 until you wish to unset it.Barry
  2. Well. I have now flown a few flights after setting the PCI Latency for my Geforce 4 TI 4200 to 64 and 32 for my elcheapo Creative SB sound card - and I can report that there is a DEFINITE improvement in Sim smoothness , but no increase in FPS that I can see. Tye bottom line is that I will be leaving the settings at these new figures as I am very pleased with this little "tweak"Barry
  3. I have installed POWERSTRIP and have a question. I have a Geforce 4 TI4200 128 meg vid card . I have reduced the PCI latency using Powerstrip from 248 to 64.Firstly, flying the default Cessna at Seattle-Tacoma using real weather (lots of heavy cumulus clouds), my first impression is that of smoother flight. Frame rates are the same however. But I did really -with one flight only- get a much smoother sensation of flight. Only time will tell whether I continue to feel this way.My main question is this -- after having started the Powerstrip programme, setting the PCI latency to 64 and saving the action -- Do I have to turn on the Powerstrip programme everytime I want to run the computer to get this changed setting? -- or is the setting changed permanently until I run the programme again and change it back to whatever.Regards Barry
  4. I knew the 2 for 1 offer was too good to be true -- FSD are trying to pass off all of their used a/c!!!! Didn't think we would notice!!!! Shame!!! Shame!!!Barry
  5. Is is possible to change the lettering on the panel of the VC in an a/c?My problem is the Antonov AN-14 - a great a/c and fully flyable from the VC only cockpit -but everything is in Russian and I keep forgetting what switch does what.Barry
  6. Yes - no 2D panel. This a/c is completely flyable from the VC. It is a great little piece of freeware and I am surprised that there has not been more reference to it in these forums. It is a fantastic STOL cargo or passenger a/c. I did have some small issues with it when I first started flying it which I subsequently fixed- and the only problem I have with it is that everything on the VC panel is written in Russian. If somebody was to convert it to an "english" version -- I would use it much more than I do.Barry
  7. >What's wrong with the Caravan? R-a simplistic, cartoonish looking 2D panel and a terrible VCBarry
  8. Could somebody advise what freeware mesh is available for the area coverd by the Anchorage Sectional Chart?I don't think I care to download Raimundo Taburait's complete Alaskan mesh -- over 1 gigabyte!!Any help much appreciatedThanks Barry
  9. Yes -- this looks really good -- but I have to say that I can achieve almost the same effect by using the F1-View utility available for free at Dreamfleet http://atr.flight1.net/atr_downloads.asp , while at the same time changing my view position in the VC after mapping the keys to an easier combinationBarry
  10. I can only find 2 settings relating to crashes - one says to ignore crashes and the other says to detect crashes and automatically reset the flight. Does anybody know how to get the sim to detect a crash but NOT automatically reset the sim. It would be great to view an instant replay of my crashes to try to see form an externakl view ehre I went wrong in my approach.Barry
  11. Thanks Doug.I have just been right through the website for this new freeware Cirrus -- and I can't believe that it is going to be freeware!!! Barry
  12. I LOVE the video!!! Does anybody know the limitations of this Cirrus parachute system -- max speed of deployment, etc. Anyway, this Fsim a/c is ceratinly unique in this respect. A new thing for us to play with. The only other a/c that I know of that has a "gimmick" like this is the Galeb in which the pilot can eject. Does anybody know of any others?Barry
  13. All we have to figure out now is how to import it into a Combat Sim. Anybody got any ideas?? :) It seems such a waste to have it stuck inside Fs2004.Barry
  14. I have been having trouble finding an ACTIVE IL-2 forum -- anybody got any links? Thanks Barry
  15. For the past few years , I have thoroughly enjoyed FS2002 and FS2004. I have done a bit of everything with them. Flown all sorts of flights in all sorts of weather conditions. Downloaded great quality freeware and payware a/c, etc. Recently I cheaply purchased the original version of IL-2 Sturmovic and am slowly getting to grips with it. The first thing I have done is to allocate the keyboard controls to the same as that used in FS2004 ( as much as possible) . But I am thinking - wouldn't it be just fantastic if the best of FS2004 could be combined with the best of IL-2. The scenery, weather, aircraft etc of FS2004 combined with the game playing features ( like the ability to create Campaigns) of IL2.But it won't ever happen of course.I understand that the latest versions of IL-2 are better than the first version -- but are they really worth spending the extra money at this stage? I can already see that I have a very steep learning curve with this version of IL2 and it will require quite a bit of my time - the same as FS200x has over the last few years. So, are the latest versions an evolutionary step-up or a revolutionary step-up. The appearance of the a/c external models and even VCs in IL2 are not as good as FS2004 IMO. If they were, then this Combat Sim could easily challenge my current interest in FS2004.Any comments? Barry
  16. I have purchased a copy of IL-2 Sturmovic and applied 2 patches. My problem is that, when running this programme only , after a short time my computer crashes and re-boots. Before it reboots an error message comes onto the screen -- but disappears before I can get a chance to read what it says. Pressing "pause" at this point does not stop the rebooting process, pressing "Print screen" does not help because the clipboard is cleared when the machine reboots.Anybody got any idea as to what I can do to get to be able to read this error screen to try to get an idea what the problem is?Thanks BarryAMD XP2400Geforce 4 TI4200 vidWindowsXP
  17. >For short sections of a PDF file (like a checklist), I have>been copying the selected text and then pasting into Word. I>can then edit the width, etc to make it a better fit for>kneeboard, and then save the file as a .htm format file. But>for longer items with lots of pictures and so on, your idea is>a real winner!Yes - I do that kind of thing myself. Some freeware authors don't provide REF.HTML files so I create one easily myself by typing whatever info I want into Microsoft Word and saving it as a HTML file. Then I have to ensure that this new file is referred to in the aircraft.cfg file. Works great. It is then also handy to know a little basic HTML code to insert into the file as well to achieve things like what we are talking about.Barry
  18. >It may be old-fashioned, but sometimes there's actually no>substitute for a printed manual. I appreciate that for>something like the ATR-72 at nearly 500 pages this is a major>undertaking, but selective printing is a possibility !>>AlastairG'day AlastairI agree with you absolutely - but I can't see any way around the fact that printed manuals have gone the way of the dinosoars. It costs too much for the software authors to provide and it costs to much for us to print them - either at home or at a printer. Anyway, I really wish somebody could come up with a way to make the kneeboard larger.Barry
  19. >In the case of the C172 for example, that large blank area on>the VC panel doesn't have a "projection screen" modeled, so no>one is able to place a gauge there.>>I hope this "word picture" is clear. If not, I'll post some>picture examples to illustrate the concept. :)Thanks BillWell explained. It is fairly clear to me - basically says what I can't do :) -- but still doesn't help me to figure out just what "is" possible . Maybe you could possibly post some pictures to illustrate just what may be possible (if anything) to modify a default VC - perhaps add a small gauge somewhere where it is possible - maybe some pictures to illustrate how one could "examine" different a/c VCs (without going into GMAX!!) to determine what may be possible for an individual a/c.One thing I find difficult in FS2004 is to really be able to get a sense of my height above ground - so I "cheat" a little and install a small radar altimeter in the 2d panel of my favourite a/c. It helps a lot - especially trying to land on water. But I like to fly nowadays inside the many VC cockpit equiped a/c that I have and would dearly love to be able to install my radar alt there as wellRegards Barry
  20. Like others , I have always found it annoying and difficult to access the PDF file manuals supplied with some complex a/c - you need to have FS2004 running but you also have to be able to read the PDF file. It IS possible with lots of juggling but not much fun. I have tried reducing the size of the Sim in Windowed mode so that I could have the PDF file and the Sim open on the screen at the same time - but that didn't work real well. I especially find it annoying when I am inside the Sim, flying - and I can't remember just one simple little thing about the a/c and I have to go into Windowed mode and then go into Windows Explorer to find the PDF file and open it.So here is my partial solution - It would be perfect if somebody could figure out how to increase the size of the Kneeboard. This involves the use of the Kneeboard - but only the a/c Reference page of the kneeboard. Hence you can open the kneeboard for any a/c as per normal and only affect the Ref page for any particular a/c that you want. For example, The Dreamfleet Cessna 310Place this inside the REF.HTML file that is supplied with the a/c Aircraft Manual HERENote that you have to open the HTML file using Windows Notepad and this line has to be placed inside the section of the file. This results in a link to the PDF file inside the REF page of the C310 kneeboard - which when you click on it, opens up the Manual PDF file inside the Kneeboard and allows you to check some detail as you are flying.Unfortunately, some addon a/c do not come with a REF.HTML file -- so you have to create one first - but that requires another post. The print is a bit small I know - so this hint is for people 60 years and under :) with 20/20 vision :)But it is better than nothing and is a big help to me so I hope it helps others.Barry
  21. > The manual is included with the program in>PDF form and you can either print it yourself or do what I did>and take it to Kinkos and have them print it. Out of curiosity, how much did that cost?Barry
  22. There is a VC version and a non-VC version of this a/c .Barry
  23. >You cannot make ANY changes without the source file, aside>from possibly some minor gauge swapping.I was about to raise a new post regarding this - but found this one. Could you possibly explain just exactly what "minor gauge swapping" can be done in the VC . I am completely conversant with how to do it inside the 2D panel but am at a loss with regard to the VC . For example - looking at a very simple a/c like the default Piper Cub and trying to determine how the VC gauges are layed out to see if even the simplest of additional gauges can be added somewhere has so far been beyond my uderstanding.Perhaps you could kindly offer some advice about this? Thanks in advanceBarry
  24. YES!-- It's a beauty! One of the very best Freeware a/c around. I now have a very good collection of freeware a/c covering a wide range of types. All with good exterior models, 2d panels, VCs and sounds. I don't know how they do it - and frankly, I have enough of them that I don't really need to purchase any payware. I did purchase the Dreamfleet Cessna 310 and the PSS Dash8 -- but , although they are very good, I find my collection of outstanding freeware keeps me too busy to use them very much. Here is my collection of what I have found to be the very best freeware out there for FS2004. Note that some of these include a/c from an author combined with 2d panels and sounds from other authors.Aero-Commander series, PC-12Antonov AN14Decathlon and ScoutChipmunkF16F18Gloster MeteorHawker HunterHoward 500Let 410MauleMeshersmitt ME108P51 MustangShorts SkyvanCanadair TutorGaleb jet trainerUtva 75Namc ys-11Cessna 195Cessna 206Boeing B757Combine this freeware with my 2 payware a/c and my highly modified C172 and C182 and I have more quality a/c than I know what to do with! :)Barry
