  1. >Thanks Ed for the info>This gauge though does not work with my FS9. It crashes the>program. I must find another one that does work.>>SteliosHi Stelios Certainly this gauge DOES work in my FS9 installation. As an example, to install the gauge in the default Piper Cub 2D Panel, here is the line that should be added to the bottom of the [Window00] section of the panel.cfg filegauge18=Ymu_WindSpeed!WindSpeed, 460,390,90,62
  2. >Hi Stelios. There are several gauges that can be added into a>panel to display windspeed. A file library search bring them>up. The most recent that I have seen is called>YMU_Windspeed.gau and although it is listed as for FS2002, it>does seem to work fine in FS9.Yes - that gauge works well - here is the filename in the AVSIM library ymu_windspeed.zipBarry
  3. All I want to do is to place a single gauge in the large blank area on the right hand side of the default C172/C182 VC panel. It is a nice BIG blank space and it just cries out for some gauges to be added to it.Help!! :)Thanks for any help Barry
  4. I don't know if I have the wrong perception here - but looking at the most popular downloads for the past 12 months in the AVSIM library and those in the FLIGHTSIM library, there seems to be a noticeable difference in emphasis. It seems to me that the ones in the Flightsim library are heavily slanted towards military a/c. Don't know why - maybe average age of the people who frequent the sites? Now lets not start any fights or bashing here - but I thought that the difference is quite interesting. I must admit to enjoying some of the military jets -- I would like to see some aspects of a military Sim incorporated into FS200X. One problem I have had when trying out military Sims demos is that all of the keystroke combinations are different to that in FS2004 . Can't be bothered re-learning what does what-- although I guess I could probably reset the keys to that used in Fs2004What say you?Barry
  5. Flying in the Swiss Alps area at 12000' and 180 knots in the Mooney, ATC asks me if I have the airport (6000') in visual only 9 miles out from the airport. It's impossible to slow down and get down from that height in 9 miles. Anybody else experience this? There was a another thread about this and I thought that maybe the problem was caused by incorrect cruising speed figure and/or autopilot descend figure in the aircraft.cfg file . But I can see now that this is not so.Any ideas? Thanks Barry
  6. Go get the Canadair Tutor -- jet trainer . Don't forget the update too.I dips me lid to the creator. This freeware deserves some serious downloadingBarry Ward

  8. I only know of one a/c that was designed to be flown from the VC only -- the Antonov-AN14. This is a great little a/c -- probably the best, the only STOL transport a/c, around .But , anyway, now that we have a pretty good and workable VC in FS2004, I am interested to know if anybody knows of any other a/c that were specifically designed to only fly from the VC -- to be able to do this of course, all aircraft functions have to be actionable from within the VC.Barry
  9. >MS has already made realistic flight models for the Cessna!>>How can I import my POSKY FD and use them in the Meljets I>got?Seeing as how you are keen to criticise other people's work, perhaps you could work on improving the quality of your English grammar?Barry
  10. >Possible solutions:>The default ATC will look at the aircraft.cfg file for cruise>airspeed and autopilot default climb/descent rates to make>altitude assignments so if you are flying faster/slower and/or>using climb/descent rates different from these values you>won't be where the computer expects you to be. The better>payware and default aircraft have numbers in this file that>aren't too far off for most flying... many freeware offerings>are all over the place in this regard. If there is a specific>aircraft giving you difficulty look at the cfg file and make>adjustments as necessary to match your flying.THIS is an interesting thought! The aircraft.cfg has an entry that determines the default climb/descent rates used by the autopilot -- and then the computer also uses this figure to determine when to tell you to descend. BUT , if you fly the a/c by hand and don't use the a/p , then you could get yourself into a situation where it "appears" that ATC have delayed your descend point until too late. This is probably not so if you are using the A/P -- have a try of flying without using the a/p and lower the descend rate figure in the aircraft.cfg file to something very low and see how it affects the point at which ATC tells you to descend.Barry
  11. Sounds interesting -- but I can't find the post.Barry

  13. ANOTHER great piece of freeware -- as somebody who has delved into all aspects of the Sim ( Gmax, panels, sounds, etc ) and realised that I just don't have the patience or creativity to create an original piece of work, I am absolutely in awe of freeware creators who put these a/c together. One small thing I have found so far with this a/c -- the VC is quite dark during daytime. This is quite common in many VCs - but some VCs are quite light during the day. So I don't know why some have this problem and some don't. I do find that it makes quite a difference in flying from the VC.For example, I found that Milton's Commander 500s series had this problem -- but his Shrike has a nice bright VC which makes it very flyable for me. I have now managed to modify his 500 series panels to be the same as the Shrike -- by moving one of his Shrike gauges into the 500 panel and altering the lights section of the aircraft.cfg.Now, for the Snowbird Tutor, the first thing I notice is that the lights section in the aircraft.cfg file for VC lights is slashed out // -- so by removing these, the light situation is a little better , but still needs more work.Barry
  14. I enjoy flying from the VC -- but am disappointed with the DC3 VC. Apart from the fact that it is not very nice (to my eyes)compared to other a/c VCs, I can't enjoy the eyepoint view. I have tried everything and can't get a viewpoint that suits. The problem is with the VC as I see it is that, although you have the opportunity to "pan" the panel, because it is a Sim , you have to be able to see the instruments ( especially on landing) and in the DC3 , it is nigh impossible to land using the VC and scan the instruments at the same time.Has anybody tinkered with their DC3 VIEW settings? -- any suggestions? Thanks Barry
  15. >Personally, I have found that my setting for the target frame>rate will have a big effect with stutters, especially on>complex payware and some freeware planes. If I set the target>fps to unlimited or a very high fps -- even if I am able to>achieve that fps -- I will start to get stutters (esp. in>turns). Lowering the target frame rate will tend to smooth>things out.>>You can also try editing the panel.cfg to take out the>reference for the GPS in the VC, just in case that is causing>the problem (I did this on the Aero Commander, just because>the GPS isn't really clear or usable from the viewpoint in the>VC).Yes -- it does seem to be the GPS in the VC that causes this problem in all the Aero Commander fleet. The strange thing is that I have other a/c which have the gPS in the VC and they are smooth. I have the Cessna 206 which has an invisible "click area" on the gPS in the VC which allows me to click it a a larger pop-up window appears which allows me to set the GPS. I like this way of doing things in the VC. I was hoping to be able to do that also in the Aero Commanders - but it looks like maybe not. Thanks anywayBarry
  16. Of all the many a/c that I have in my hangar, I am finding that I don't fly Milton's Aero Commander series much because of some rather bad stuttering during turns -- even in rural areas that normally give me quite high FPS.I have tried reducing some of the textures from 32 bit to DXT 3 , but it doesn't improve it much.It is a shame really because of the obvious quality of the whole package(s) -- does anybody else experience this? - are there any fixes?I thought that I remembered something about not using the GPS in the VC -- but other a/c use the GPS in the VC without this problem.Any ideas? Thanks Barry
  17. How can I determine whether the textures associated with a particular a/c are 32 bit or dxt3.Thanks Barry
  18. I used to have a link to a website where people could upload their freeware gauges to. This is one area that Avsim could improve their website-- they have a PANELS download area , what about a gauges area?Anybody have any info regarding this? Thanks Barry
  19. In the real world, privately owned a/c are not equiped with every navigational aid known. They are fitted with what the owners can afford. But IN Fsim, we can have whatever we want -- so feel free to add whatever navaids you want to your cockpit.Barry
  20. Hmmm-- I must be going blind :) Can't find anything about the general effect of mesh on coastlines - can only find some stuff relating to Hawaii. Also the FAQ only seems to deal with problems regarding access to the forum.Barry
  21. I have installed the FSGenesis freeware British Isles mesh. It certainly improves the look of the country -- but wherever I have coastlines, I now get a "Jig-saw" effect when the water meets the land. I think I read somewhere that this is a result of the mesh -- but not sure . If so, it is a great shame -- any fixes??Thanks Barry
  22. >You don't really think that a Professional ATP is going to>have trouble flying an plane without and A/T do you? ..... You>have to be kidding.....Hmm- well lately I have been reading about some airline crashes over the past couple of decades -- and I have been completely amazed at just how bad some a/c Captains seem to be ie those that crashed. In fact, it seems that Professional ATPs are quite capable of doing things (and also NOT doing things) that a Fsimmer does (and doesn't do).Fact is - it seems that ATP Professionals are simply human beings like the rest of us -- they forget things, they think about their personal problems when they should be flying the a/c, etc, etc.It has made me quite nervous about just who is up in that cockpit - and whether he/she has got their mind on the job!!Barry

  24. >ffpv2.zip= Good looking clouds and alot better frame compare>to default.>>HIFPSV2.zip= Best clouds performance possible for fs2004, >Still great clouds looking, but reduced clouds edge quality.>fixe one issue in fs2004, the haze near mountain.>Does this second set of clouds overwrite the first ones listed?. I think I rememebr having installed both of these sets and I get what looks like "hollow" clouds. Barry
  25. I downloaded and installed the free trial of 2 of their Flight Ventures - only flown one so far , but quite enjoyed it. This particular one involved a storyline whereby you have to fly to Meigs to pick up a reporter and then find a motor crash site north of Chicago. This is done in darkening conditions with rain and turbulence. I managed to get all the tasks done -- I like the way the reporter waiting for you at Meigs , instantly dissapears into your a/c when you stop alongside her. Finding the crash site was not too difficult - I decided to land on the motorway to check it out before procedding home.I don't mind these sort of adventures -- they give me something to do other than aimlessly fly around. Other adventures that I have tried in the past have mostly been to do with ATC operations-- I would like to see more adventures involving flight training. The default lessons are OK -- but a good adventure programmer could produce some really good flight training adventures - particularly those involving IFR conditions Barry
