Hi GuysI have given myself a real treat (call it an early Christmas present): A new gaming computer - I'll post the specs later, but they're not too shabby....That means the my old rig will move down the line, and that one is big enough to support the same setup as last year.So unless something bad happens, we should have the same VPN as last year (24/7), without the security issues in Hamachi.I'll let you know of the progress.Merry Christmas to you all, BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH

2009 Rtw Race Start Date

Well, moving the race one week leaves me between a rock and a hard place...For once, my skiing club is actually going to hold a championship, and that is going to take place - you guessed it! - in week 9!Just as I thought I had it planned!Rats! :( BRGDSSven -
Multiplayer FS Host Server Proposal
svenks replied to buzzbee's topic in AVSIM's Round the World Race Forum
Hi DC,QTE I think you're also able to monitor the hamachi connection with a software firewall UNQTETrue, for some firewalls at least. Unfortunately that would bring us right back to square 1: If one don't get it right, we all suffer...No, the ideal solution is to have filters in one place only - the VPN server.BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH -
Your first leg with the baton stories here
svenks replied to buzzbee's topic in AVSIM's Round the World Race Forum
Hi all,Well, I can't remember the leg, but I'm pretty sure it was in my faithful P-38 :)But I can vividly recall the adrenalin rush, when I pressed Enter to the "I got the baton" message. Boy, was I nervous!!!I do remember my worst leg though: The Concorde crash in 2005 (I think).Ouch!BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH -

Hi guysSeems like I will have to de-orbit from SSM 2007, and fly along at subsonic speeds instead of hitting the atmosphere at MACH 23+It's all Alex' (sfoofficer) fault, it was him who sent me the nice pictures from Space Shuttle Simulator 2007.Anyway, I'll get my act together and get some air under my wings again. It will be my privilege and pleasure flying with you gentlemen!!!BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCHPS: Please see my concerns over Hamachi in another thread!

Multiplayer FS Host Server Proposal
svenks replied to buzzbee's topic in AVSIM's Round the World Race Forum
Hi guys,Yes, I'm still around :)I too have been trying out Hamachi, and it is very easy to set up and it also seems to work just fine.BUT (and that's a big one): It does pose a fairly big security problem, and everybody should be aware of that! What Hamachi does is to put everyone on the same subnet: Users, FShost everything. And being on the same subnet makes it easier for us to connect. Why? Because it bypasses the firewall! That means that if even one of us has malware on his PC, one or more of the rest of us runs a significant risk of getting it too! Of course, this will only happen with the right(/wrong!) kind of malware, and I do know that you are able to block some well-known ports on the Hamachi "server" itself - that is the least we should do. But I would feel a lot happier if one could specify what ports to open instead! That was the setup we used last year: A professional firewall as VPN server, and only the needed ports were open. Now, I'm not saying we shouldn't use Hamach, but we need to be aware of the risks, and also of the fact that we don't know everyone that will join us, and thus not their attitude to security. Perhaps we should get people wanting to join to run Spybot or something! If you want me to, I'll see if I can get the same setup as last year running at least for the race itself. I am seriously considering a new gaming PC, and if so I will be able to run the whole caboodle on my own gear (last year I had to borrow).BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH -
Hi there,Apart from all the other good advice, you also need to turn on a lot of fuel pumps on the Engineer panel.BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH

Hi,You have probably pressed the E key at some stage. You can control the individual engines by pressing E+1, E+2 etc. Pressing E defaults to E+1; in other words, now you're only controlling engine 1, which is what you saw.You should be able to regain control by pressing E+1+2, but I've never been able to get that to work...BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH

Hi Guys,Alive and kickin'....Not doing much FS, though - during RTW, Alex (sfoofficer) sent me a couple of images from the Shuttle Mission 2007 review he was doing at the time, and for now that is my favourite passtime :)Love the approach: Nose-dive towards the runway and land at around 240kts.... Anyway, this sim is great, but only if you like LOTS of buttons and knobs. The graphics is outstanding!!!!!You can read Alex' review from Avsim's main page.BRGDSSven Sorensen, EKCH -
