  1. Note to Majestic: Next time please choose distributors who are actually willing to sell your stuff. Currently seems that only 1 out of your three chosen distributors are selling the Dash-8 ! No wonder that Justflights system goes belly up <_<
  2. still not up on simmarket ... time to wake up guys or not interested to earn some money ?
  3. Thanks for the input, guys. I figured moving the plane in the map or letting reverse thrust do it's work are options, but I don't like both because they destroy immersion. Powering back with reverse thrust may have been done in the past on remote places under certain circumstances but for a commercial flight this is not going to happen. And the plugin quoted by woweezowee (huh!) was the one that was said not to work with the betas (some of the last comments posted there) ... Oh well ... so let's wait and see what happens once 10.20 is final ... Still, wondering how the 10th incarnation of a flight simulator cannot offer a default way of pushing back ... LR causes so many question marks...
  4. Hey guys, I was slowly starting to use X-plane 10 more and after only doing GA flights I bought my first airliner for X-plane - the FlyJsim 727, which is a marvellous bird, by the way !!! Allright, after doing some touch and go's starting right from the runway I was about to do my first full flight from gate to gate, and while sitting at the gate and getting ready for departure I was thinking "so, what was that shortkey for pushback again?" ... yeah - shocking, isn't it ? X-Plane does not offer a built in pushback function ... ?!?!? What the ... ?? OK - after calming down again I started to do some research and learned that there are some freeware plugins, which are either age old and not developed any more, or 32 bit only, or "working for some, not working for others", not working with the beta because some mysterious "Sandy" needs to program a new python plugin first etc. ... So I am searching advice from you fellow x-planers here - how is everybody pushing back ? Is there a quick and easy way without having to install 10 different plugins and python just to learn that it doesn't work ? Thanks Albert
  5. Does still anybody believe this will ever see the light of day ? Announced for christmas 2011, in January 2012 still in beta but "release expected very soon", silence till April 2012 - "hey, we didn't abandon the project, release summer or fall 2012" ... silence ... in December 2012 the groundbreaking announcement "now we are really close, probably not gonna make christmas, but shortly after" ... February 2012 - still regularly sending out beta releases like they did in January 2012 ... Looking forward to their announcement in December 2013 - will it be "really very close", or maybe " really really incredibly close", or "closer than ever" ? Sorry for the sarcasm, but I am really frustrated about this whole story. Still, will certainly buy this on day one after release - I LOVE proper flight planning and PFPX just makes me drool - and drooling for over a year really is ugly
  6. From Ben's blog: That makes me sick, really. How many months ago did they promise to work out the ATI problems ? Of course, it's all ATI's fault. Somehow Laminar "Research" seems to be the only company unable to produce code that works with ATI GPUs. I'm pretty close now to just deinstall x-plane and consider the 70.-EUR I spent on it as a loss. Never again.
  7. IMO the easiest way and how I got it working in no time: - go to simviation.com and search for "posky fsx 777": you'll find a number of quite recent full packages including VC and some with custom sounds of different 777 variants and paints. Choose one of your choice, download and install - download the panel here at the avsim library (link see one of the previous posts): the download comes with a very detailed installation guide which you REALLY HAVE TO FOLLOW step by step, otherwise you won't get it working. It's not only replacing the panel folder, you need to copy a couple modules, edit the aircraft.cfg and the dll.xml file. It's no problem at all, the description in the readme of the panel is very good. p.s.: don't forget to restart FSX after installation - the new gauges and modules need to be loaded by FSX first to work ! I have only shortly played around with the panel but it really looks phantastic - and the feature list is amazing for a freeware offering. Thanks to the author(s) and thanks to the OP for bringing this to our attention !
  8. I can't confirm those overly enthusiastic "buy it, immediately" comments. If you have an ATI GPU - don't buy it right now ! I have an i7/2xATI5870 System which runs FSX in high dense addon scenery with high end aircraft addons and HD cloud textures in real world weather with multiple cloud layers (that opposing to X-plane actually look like clouds) and addon ATC and hardly ever get below 30FPS (where i capped FPS), running rock stable! In X-plane I'm getting abysmal performance, even when switching off all the graphical goodies. In the Carenado F33A and the payware DC-3 I'm getting roughly 10-15 FPS - which means it's just unusable. LR promised to add performance improvements to the next update - we'll see. There are many things I like about X-Plane, and I certainly think there is a great potential for this platform in the future. But for the time being it has still lot's of problems and unfinished areas (performance, ATC, AI Traffic, seasons, weather, scenery). Tierborn made the right suggestion - download the demo and play around with it. You can fly 15mins in each session which is pretty long actually to try out things. And then make the decision to buy now or wait for a couple of updates to get it in a more mature state.
  9. Yes, Donald, thanks - and got a reply exactly 1 minute later - that I would indeed call good service According to Cameron 10.05 is required and I was still running 10.03 ... updating now ...
  10. Following the praise here I purchased it, downloaded and installed it -> XPlane tells me that this acf file is not REALLY an acf file allright, downloaded a second time, installed a second time -> XPlane tells me that this acf file is not REALLY an acf file great for my first experience with X-aviation
  11. Hilarious ... thanks Austin, you made my day :(
  12. deleted the post myself because arguing about it is pointless - we'll all see in due time
  13. Instead of reading something into my post I never, not even remotely, said you better had replied to the points I really made.If you had answered to my posts you would have had to explain how you, with your proven track record in flight simulation, can see a potential for Flight when comparing it to the previous standard. FS never was perfect. I use MSFS since V4 and there always have been glitches, necessary workarounds, frustrations etc - I never did care too much, because MSFS offered what I wanted - an open world with almost unlimited (in the confines of a computer game) possibilities. And these unlimited possibilities were made possible by a HUGE community of talented individuals providing an incredible amount of content.Looking at MS Flight there are probably 10% left of what made MSFS what it was up to FSX. And that's based on what MS and the Flight team announced ! There is not more to it ! You have GA flying in isolated scenery patches with added gameplay features - thats it.They have not added any potential - they have taken away everything that could make it a possible successor of the franchise. That's fine - the bad thing is that Flight is 10% of what FS9/FSX are. So the relationship of what it isn't to what it is is about 90/10. Have fun discovering.Maybe I am blind - so I would be grateful if you could point out where you see the potential of MS Flight as a true successor of the franchise.
  14. A forum is about voicing and sharing different opinions - right ? What's the point of trivializing other people's opinions with that "hope you feel better now - deep breaths"-nonsense ? That's the point - there is nothing to work out. You have two planes and one island - what would you like to work out there ? It's not a tool. A tool is used to make something new - you can't because you have no SDK. FS9 and FSX are tools to build a huge living world of aviation. In MS Flight you only can use what MS gives you. I say it again - if that makes you happy I am fine, it's a matter of personal preferences. If you don't need that that's fine. Please accept that others may see this very much as a necessity. I enjoy the freedom to do what I want when simming, and not what MS wants me to do. Not sure what's so funny about it. They delivered late because they added so much extra stuff for their customers' enjoyment. They would have been better off financially if they had released it without the extra goodies and invest the time in their next project instead. Would have saved them a lot of money. They didn't because they're enthusiasts about their work. MS is not. They will sell you what gives them maximum profit = half ready incomplete buggy crap.
  15. Well, Arwen, I think I made it pretty clear what the difference for me is between the game MS Flight and the programs I consider as simulations - it's the limited environment of Flight where MS (and nobody else!) decides what and where you can fly and the basically unlimited environment the simulations like FS9 or FSX offer. Your reply that the word "game" is written on the FSX box as well is somewhat missing the point, wouldn't you agree ? Who cares what is written on the box ?And I want to make very clear that I did not insult you are anybody else, at least it was not my intention. When I say "reality check" I mean that some of the supporters here need to open their eyes to see the differences I tried to point out. And no matter what your personal preferences are in regards to flight simulation - you can't deny the differences, which are as obvious as the difference between night and day.Don't get me wrong - I am not saying that people who like MS Flight are wrong or dumb or whatnot. There is no right or wrong when it comes to personal interests. If you are happy flying around Hawaii or any other place MS might offer in the future in whatever airplane MS might offer this is perfectly fine! But you have to accept that a large number of people in a hard core flight simming community like AVSIM miss just about everything in Flight they enjoyed in every previous FS version, and I am one of them. And you have to accept that there is a big amount of frustration amongst that group to see that franchise change in such a way, just because MS in their unlimited greed does not begrudge addon developers their little income.
  16. Great post, Francois !People supporting Flight as a simulator seriously need a reality check. Flight is a game - it's meant as a game, it's sold as a game and it will have a fast end like a game. Now - there's nothing wrong with it being a game ! Playing games can be fun, and I probably will download Flight, fly around Hawaii a couple of hours, probably even collect a couple of coins (hooray), and put it away after that couple of hours and move on to the next game. Why ? Because like other games it lacks freedom.Let's talk about simulators ... FS9, FSX, X-Plane to name the current standards. There is freedom - absolute freedom. There is simply every aircraft available you could think of for these simulators, freeware or payware, from gliders to multi engine intercontinental jets, from ancient aircraft from the dawn of aviation to modern high tech aircraft with the most sophisticated systems and flight management computers you could imagine. And they are rendered in almost any detail or difficulty level you could think of, from simple jump-in-and-fly designs to complete and true to life systems and flight model simulations we are seeing from PMDG or A2A, to name only two. Choose as many of them as you like or your harddrive can bear. Fly them in as many colours and variants you like, or paint them yourself - your imagination is the only limit. Fly them wherever you want - from Antarctica to the north pole, from the highest mountains to endless plains, from arctic tundra to tropical swamps, from lonely bushes to the busiest hubs of aviation. Get outstanding sceneries for almost any place on this planet, freeware or payware, build sceneries yourself - again the only limit is your imagination ! Enhance immersion with addon traffic to your likes, from propliner AI of the 50s over early jets of the 70s to modern traffic using real world schedules - it's up to you ! It's available for free ! Enhance you immersion with weather addons, texture sets, afcads or sounds ! Get yourself realistic worldwide air traffic control using an addon or fly in a life and human controlled online network airspace !See what I'm talking about ? Flight simulation is amazing, exciting, a neverending adventure to explore and learn ! And all this is available for our current simulators because there are hundreds, if not thousands, of talented phantastic enthusiasts from all over the planet producing all that, for the largest part for free or in a small spare time business at best !!And now let's talk about Flight. No SDK, no community producing content. "Addons" produced by Microsoft and "selected" partners. What do you expect from them ? Microsoft is not enthusiastic about flight simulation, they are enthusiastic about making money! They have choosen this business model for Flight because they want to earn more money than they could with the present model (FS9, FSX). In order to achieve that they need to release DLC at a fast rate. Do you honestly think they wait for an addon to be perfect because they are enthusiastic about their addons ? They need to fulfil a business plan i.e. earning a given amount of profit in a given time ! E.g. PMDG delayed their outstanding 737NGX for a year because they were enthusiastic about making it even more complete, better and enjoyable ! What do you think MS tells one of their "selected partners" if they tell them they want to delay their DLC for a year to make it perfect ? "Take your time, buddies" MS will tell them ... NOT ! Expect half finished, simplified, buggy crap , because at MS the accountants will decide when an addon has to be released, not the enthusiast. There will be no high end addons, simply because a development time of 2 or 3 years for an addon will not fit in MS's business plan. Hardcore simmers will not buy addons on MS default level, and they will not buy addons on high end level because there won't be any. And they will not download freeware addons to enhance their experience because there won't be any ! So hardcore simmers will spend no money on flight because it offers nothing they want, and gamers will spend no money on flight because they will find it rather boring. What remains is a group of "casual" simmers who usually don't spend much money on a "casual" hobby (collecting coins in Hawaii does not really feel much different from collecting coins in Tasmania, anyway, and what else would you like to do on an empty planet?).MS will never reach the profit margin they hoped for and scrap the MS Flight project within a year or two. Will MS Flight be successful as a game ? I doubt it. Will it be successful as a simulator competing with or replacing FS9, FSX or X-Plane? No way !! Because it lacks EVERYTHING which makes our current simulators so worthwile !Sorry for the longish post - sometimes 2cents are simply not enough :Peace:CheersAlbert
  17. PMDG is doing a DC6B .... :( :( :wub:You know - I have hundreds of hours in those lovely calclassic propliners... for me there is something to operating propliners that jets simply don't have !And as much as I love and admire the freeware propliners available at calclassic for their outside looks and their phantastic flight models, the flight deck graphics of course cannot compete with what modern payware addons can offer. My dream was PMDG doing a Douglas or Lockheed propliner one day for modern graphics and systems completeness - expected the likelihood of this coming true to exactly ZERO, though !And now I drop in here and realize that the likelihood changed from zero to 100 % :Shocked:And since you talk about a line of products there even is a likelihood that we one day may see a PMDG DC-3, "Seven Seas" or Super Conny ?!?Getting out my print of fsaviator's Propliner tutorial to get ready and encouraging everybody to go to calclassic and download it too - you learn A LOT about what makes operating propliners so different from jets !You made my day - looking forward to release :Peace:Albert Martin(euphoric fanboyman)
  18. Nope - buying from Aerosoft you actually get 9 DVDs. No.9 contains the three extra airport sceneries (which will be included in the global version for all, I believe, at a later time)
  19. Hi Jean-Jacques,please have a look on "http://wiki.x-plane.com/X-Plane_10_Graphics_Known_Issues" - there is a list of problems with graphic cards and possible workarounds.Maybe you can find something that is of any help for you.You might also consider writing an email to Laminar Research support with your problem, might help them also to discover and resolve some graphics initialization problems XP10 obvisouly still seems to have.@eSimmer: currently installing DVD 8 of 9 B)I agree regarding coexistence of FSX and XPlane - I have so many great addons for FSX that I see no reason to convert entirely. But I certainly will enjoy Xplane as a second platform and hopefully the MS Flight desaster will redirect a lot of attention to XPlane now.
  20. Absolutely a nice sim - it has been growing on me every hour I played around with it after I got it running.Looking forward to receiving the full version :(
  21. OK - I found the problem. Since I have two graphic cards I had ATI crossfire enabled. After I disabled that XPlane started just fine.I will report that to Laminar.
  22. Hi Alex, thanks for your reply. XP is starting in windowed mode - in the status field in the lower left corner it states "loading airways", "loading airports" and then seems "sun_glow_socked.png" is the first png file it attempts to load and then it hangs forever, when you mouse click into the window it says "not responding".I tried to deactivate the antivirus (avast) and the firewall (windows) - same result. My specs: Windows7/64bit, i7, 8GB ram, 2xATI5870The log file does not log anything related to loading that file.I've seen similar reports from others who reported XP10 hanging on startupwhile loading a certain file - their workaround is starting XP without the DVD in the DVD drive and adding it after XP reports the missing DVD ... mysterious.
  23. Hi everybody, have ordered XP10 today and decided it would be a good idea to install and try the demo first.Problem: The demo won't even start ! In the loading screen it says "Loading bitmap/resources/bitmaps/skycolors/sun_glow_socked.png" and then it hangs up - doesn't do anything any more.Downloaded the demo a second time but same result.Has anybody seen something similar and could probably point me in a direction what could go wrong ?The file is there and obvisously not corrupt - can manually open it just fine.CheersAlbert
  24. A big "Thank You" als from my side - to the development team, the tech team, the beta testers, the Boss (!!) and everybody else involved I've only done two flights so far, and while as a long time simmer feeling quite familiar with the systems you really can feel in every part that this simulation is so much deeper than anything else we have been lucky to see so far in MSFS.And of course the graphics and the soundset, both are simply outstanding. Enough for the praise, back to work, there are a couple thousand pages of manuals to study CheersAlbert Martin
  25. pushback ? what trick? as an addition to my previous post: after having no brakes any more I carefully taxied to the gate and arriving there the brake temp indicator showd 10.0/yellow. quite obviously no brakes were applied during taxi, since not available, so something goes haywire there when using autobrakes ...
