  1. To practice procedures with a desktop sim is certainly possible - but every action you take (like shutting off one hydraulic pump) must have the correct consequence...the famed "study level" fidelity. There aren´t many add-on aircraft out there that are so good...and even if they are, they probably have a slightly different configuration of systems from the plane you are studying for. I would not practice the actual landing touchdown with a desktop simulator - you can certainly practice that and get good enough to survive trying on the real plane, but just surviving isn´t what we aim for when flying expensive airliners 😉 But you can certainly practice the "choreography" that most procedures like a visual pattern or a low visibility circling approach have, when to reduce speed, when to extend flaps, your downwind timing, wind correction angles, things like that.
  2. Pretty much everyone frequenting flightsimulation forums...well maybe except for a few.😅 The thing is that Greazer keeps repeating that X-Plane is buggy and frequently crashing due to device loss errors. I have helped many folks on the "other" X-Plane forum with similar problems and it always boiled down to overclocking/hardware faults, outdated drivers or third-party code or assets running. I am not aware of a single case where the device loss error could not be attributed to one of those three reasons...which are pretty much outside LR´s control and within the users responsibility, I think. So instead of trying to fix the problem he keeps repeating it here, which I think is not fair. It is like those folks on the MSFS forums complaining about stutters and crashes-to-desktop when we all know that those problems were fixed by Asobo quite a while ago. Cheers, Jan
  3. Says me! 😅 I consider it my fault to discuss things MSFS and X-Plane without first-hand knowledge of MSFS. I have not installed a single bit of it on any storage device I own. And - as much as it may surprise you - one does get posting priviliges in the MSFS forum (and to enhance your knowledge: In every other forum on avsim as well) withouth providing proof of purchase for the discussed program 😉 And while we are talking: You keep mentioning that Laminar Research must fix it´s buggy Vulkan implementation for X-Plane 11. In almost all cases of Device Loss errors these can be traced back to user error in software and hardware configuration. I would phrase it carefully and say that given the sophistication level of your posting history it may prove helpful if you inquire into solving that on your side...possibly with the help of someone knowledgable in the field of technology, computers, flightsimulation and logic. It may save you and us a lot of future frustration.
  4. Yeah, I heard so! At any rate it is more of a "coming home" for me after 9 dark years on the A320 family. I flew the 744 for 6 years already and hope that some of that is still buried between my ears. Flying in X-Plane is more for getting pattern work down - procedures is something I wouldn´t trust a desktop sim on...quite yet (except for those models I built myself 😉 ) Cheers, Jan
  5. Thanks for this! I will start my conversion to the 747-400/-800 in spring 2022 and I hope that I can already shape up for that with this model. The payware -800 I recently bought during a sale...seems to be not suitable for that 😐
  6. That is a good example, actually - how come we don´t have Flight Unlimited 15 right now? Because the franchise was not succesfull. Not enough users buying them to make continued development financially interesting - they shut down to never be seen again. The Microsoft franchise (and X-Plane) are different, they have managed to retain enough users to make developing new and improved versions viable over the last decades. But even the highly succesful Microsoft franchise had a solid brush with near death after Aces (FSX) was shut down...and was resurrected from the ashes in the form of MSFS (let´s not mention Flight). It is only natural that this is a constant lingering fear in those enjoying MSFS...like the suspicion in a couple that got back together after one cheated on the other one - the trust is gone 😉 But this is not exclusive to the Microsoft users, naturally us X-Plane fans were also worried at some point that "MSFS just does everything better!" - and will drain enough users to not allow Laminars increased team size to remain viable. Hence the jealousy and spite for the "other" simulators - they are like contendors that try to vie away your tribe´s members...which you need to survive! 😉
  7. I think the reason for strongly supporting one franchise is twofold. One is because you are convinced that your choice is good and the right one and you don´t want to be proven wrong in your choices. The other is worry that your franchise of choice will not survive - due to the competition draining the resources that the userbase has to offer (time spent on the program, money spent for add-ons and expansions, sequels). Thats why the argument "there is space for two simulators on my harddrive" is not really valid. There is enough space for a Porsche Taycan, a Lamborghini Huracan and a Ferrari Daytona in the street in front of my house, too. 😅 If someone would post "I personally like the scenery in simulator X a lot better because..." - that is a world of difference from saying "The scenery in simulator X is a lot better because..." There are some rules to a civil and fair discussion and once people start making it personal - the point of that discussion is already moot because no one will budge from his point of view. Especially not on the internet where we all don´t know each other and I can claim that the sun is cold all day long without any repercussion at all.
  8. I think most of us know Greazer and his posts - and we chuckle when we read them. No need for a heavy hand by mods. Some of us here know how to push those buttons for the MSFS afficionados and it isn´t surprising (and a bit amusing) to see them blow their lid when those are pushed. It is super frustrating - especially when you proclaimed total victory many months (years) ago - to see the allegedly defeated foe flourish and prosper. It is a fine line between discussing X-Plane and it´s competition including the pros and cons - and posting stuff just to make the other side upset.
  9. Well, at least the airports in XP12 won´t have blue taxiway lights in the middle of them! 😆
  10. Also take these shots with the grain of salt that only airports that have gotten the "XP12 special treatment" are looking like this. This means that someone (in the above cases Laminar team members) have improved the airports with new assets available in XP12. All airports will immediately benefit a lot from new XP12 textures (I know from firsthand experience 😉) - but to get the full benefit of all the new "scenery goodies" like different surface and edge weathering, etc. will take a human Gateway artist to implement.
  11. Easy, Darren - they just got kicked in the ***ts: That Messiah Fenix A320 that was to blow anything else out of the water from past, present and future went from showing cool episodes and screenshots every few days to "not much recently" as well... curious when the "complex airliners are coming" prediction comes to fruitition?
  12. I will reread the referenced post! And good day and farewell to you as well!
  13. Well, maybe you should enter with something a bit more positive than the above yourself then? Oh, and just because someone "was a long time XP11 user" does not make it right to enter here with a condescending tone. I was a long time Microsoft Flight Simulator user (up to FSX!) and I got grilled many times "by you guys" over there 😉 Lets blow this not out of proportion over semantics, I would say and get back to discussing XP12 news.
  14. Well, those guys that "pop into the X-Plane forums to check if there are any X-Plane 12 updates" 😉
  15. Well, you can always pop over to the "Linux" or "Windows 11" threads for some real exciting news! 😃 But...isn´t it time for you guys to get that new 737 anytime soon now?
  16. Hi Gulfstream, you will not win this argument 😉 - Well, you won it already if most of us here were the judges, but you will not get your antagonist to stop or concede...so carefully ponder how much effort you want to put into this. And please don´t judge the "X-Plane crowd" on one prolific supporter here, the normal people on this forum will readily concede that MSFS looks lightyears better than XP11, and will likely look still a bit better than XP12 on the whole. It is just one of the core features of MSFS that had a ton of effort and attention and as you rightfully noticed - financial backing. One can always make ludicrous claims and then cling to them like a madman just for the sake of the argument. But it isn´t much of an argument if one guy says that black is more bright than white and he has the youtube video to prove it 🤣 So drag this discussion out if you want to - or just bow out and let it be. You have won and everyone except the usual guy knows it. Cheers, Jan
  17. I am sure there must be something going on with your setup/flight in particular, otherwise this would be a very common complaint! There could be a few reasons why your aircraft does not pressurize, maybe your pressurization mode selector is not in Auto (or Standby) and your outflow valve is open, maybe a window is open, or the logic for the FLT/GRD switch isn´t done correctly (it should switch to FLT mode automatically on liftoff, even if the pilot forgets to set it during the after-start-items). Maybe show a picture of your overhead panel when that alarm goes off?
  18. Hi Mike, I fell into the same trap of posting that "LOWI" picture - which is actually LOWS Salzburg (of "Sound of Music fame 😉 )...but that is not far from LOWI, and the grass can probably be considered to be of the same "type"! I agree that these new grass textures look very good - it isn´t "procedural 3D grass" yet, but I think there is a good possibility that we will see that sometime during the V12 run. Cheers, Jan
  19. I will make you a deal: If this statement of yours - presented as a fact by you - proves to be wrong...will you promise to be gone from this forum forever and just go play that other game? Deal? Deal?
  20. Oh my god, you guys are like Abott and Costello arguing about "Who is on first base?" 🤣🤣 ONE is talking about "lightning" (as in flash of lightning during a thunderstorm) THE OTHER is talking about "lighting" (as in the light that lights up a room) Hilarious!
  21. The V11 one was ortho (its LOWI, which has orthos by default in XP11)) and the V12 one is default airport texture and associated airport (WED) tools at the disposal of Scenery Gateway artists (like the lawmower tracks around the taxi sign).
  22. On the list of the "I am too dumb to drive a motorized vehicle" we have the following scores: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_traffic-related_death_rate German: 6.4 USA: 14.2 Serbia: 28.4 🤣 I personally have no problems with people speeding on motorcycles. They tend to be alone on them, rarely kill other involved when they splatter against some tree - so all in all it is a great service to evolution and furthering the cause of the human race when the intellectually challenged/hormonally confused ride them way faster than they sensibly should. 👍
