  1. Another option to "position" your plane for the last stretch of the journey is of course the map mode. Spawn at an airport close to where you want to start the remainder of the flight - and then use the map to position yourself (you can slew position, altitude, airspeed, heading...). You are correct, setting up the systems to be in "mid flight" can be challenging, and sometimes it is necessary to increase the altitude in steps to not freak out the environmental control system...
  2. There are no "connection flights" in the real world. You fly from A to B and land. Thats it. You may then fly from B to C a while later, but you never fly A-B-C. The FMS is meant to work accordingly - after landing it resets and you can then enter the next flight.
  3. One last solution to this "problem" would be this: Imagine you fly from Frankfurt to Los Angeles. A trip that can take about 11 hours. But you are only interested in the takeoff and landing part (hence your question about skipping ahead). Now you load up your flight in Frankfurt, program the FMS, load the fuel, take off and fly until you are at cruising altitude. Now you shut off X-Plane, go have dinner, play some frisbee outside, walk the dog. Now you go back inside, load up the same plane in Las Vegas, load just enough fuel to get to Los Angeles, and start the flight to L.A. Once you are at cruising altitude you say to yourself "Tada, I almost made it all the way from Frankfurt! Wow, I am such a long-haul bad***! Look at me, ma! Now only to nail the approach and landing after this long and exhausting flight!" In other words - if you don´t want to spend 9 hours of looking out of the window (and I can totally understand why you wouldn´t after having flown the real 747-400 for 6 years), the obvious answer is: Don´t! 🤣
  4. Lol. Thanks for leading everyone on a wild goose chase. Much ado about nothing.🙄
  5. Well, there is always an awesome A320 NEO waiting for you to fly it over beautiful Portugal to pass the time waiting, I read 😉
  6. Totally no need to apologize - it would just be a shame if folks don´t read good reviews because they shy away from the "wall of text" 😉 All the best, Jan
  7. Yes! But they are secret! 😃
  8. Thanks for your report, Brett! Just a hint - I really had to struggle through your text reading it, separating it into paragraphs (where warranted) or using capital letters when starting a new sentence would have helped these old eyes 😉 Cheers, Jan
  9. Welcome to X-Plane @robert young, btw! I thought you were firmly in MSFS land these days? Or are you just getting some "different views" (pun intended) in X-Plane? 😉
  10. @Matchstick, while I am always happy and excited to see new and quality aircraft getting released for X-Plane... are you in any way affiliated with Rotate? In other words - I don´t think there is the need to create (some may say spam) multiple posts for the exact same subject..
  11. I think you are entirely expecting too much from the default 737 and it´s FMS. It does not offer the same functionality that the real aircraft offers. You may have more luck with the (free) Zibo Mod to the default 737. It is akin to the FBW A320 NEO mod in MSFS in scope.
  12. Oh, that is news to me - I always thought the general consensus was that the default airports are rather lacking and even the "handcrafted" ones are barren and not very realistic. I guess since everything scenery is just so nice out of the box there are next to no addon scenery and airports available on flightsim.to or the marketplace.
  13. The feature is very simple and will likely not work with many more sophisticated custom aircraft. Many systems are not set up correctly and no, certainly it won´t fill in a flight plan in your FMS 🤣. It is useful for simple aircraft like the Cessna 172 or the B58 Baron - anything more complex should be set up like this: Take off, then configure the aircraft for an approach. Now pause, open the map, click on the plane, drag it to the desired position (adjust heading and altitude as well) and then unpause.
  14. Whats the big deal CarlosF, why not just check the threads already posted, instead of wasting readers time with posting the exact same news again. 😉
  15. Does anyone want to post the same info a third time? 🙄
  16. That is - in my opinion - sounding exactly what you get in the MSFS forum when you talk about a shortcoming of that sim. "Yes, but they are still working on it! It´s a ten year project! There is no reason MSFS can´t be..." We don´t measure simulators by what they could be. We measure them by what they are. Or maybe I can tell my employer: "Yes, you are right, I don´t do any work around here. But I certainly could! Therefore I am a valuable employee!" 😅 Honestly, I understand the joy of hyping yourself for something that you have waited for for a long time. There is alot to look forward to in XP12 and it will be a transformed simulator. But it is also important to keep your expectations in check or you will wake up with a huge hangover like a lot of people did on August 19th, 2020 (or even a tad earlier for those living in Kiribati!)
  17. The nice thing is: Once XP12 is in public beta everyone can download the demo (a limited area to fly around in with a limited time of joystick input per session) and see for themselves if it fits their needs. No gamepass, no limited time for a full refund. You just provide the harddisk space and download bandwidth.
  18. That is probably aiming a bit too short - I mean it is obvious that the advancements in visuals, especially certain areas like lighting, water, trees, airport environment and clouds are significant (albeit not surpassing MSFS). Other areas will be left unchanged. There are quite a few upgrades for "aviation nerds", and Philipp explains those very well in his part of the official video. Again, not small QoL, but rather significant, imho.
  19. I think your sentiment will be shared by many - I will (with rising desperation) say it again and again: XP12 will not equal or leapfrog MSFS in the visual department. Another warning - don´t comfort yourself that this is "early alpha" and somehow the release will be looking a ton better. If you are primarily into the visual aspect of flying aircraft - and I don´t mean this in a bad or derogatory way - go fly MSFS. This will not change with XP12. Period. There are about (going by metrics from Steam) 25% of users that still prefer the hopelessly dated XP11 over MSFS even these days! They will gladly take the visual enhancements that XP12 brings.
  20. It is a good indication of the exact opposite if MSFS fans feel the need to come here and post stuff like you just did. 😘
  21. Jim, it is your turn to learn now. 🤣 The rest of us have already. Ask Goran for help if you need to - or me 😉
  22. You can stay in TOGA for 5 minutes regularly, 10 minutes in case of an engine failure. That is just a limitation and the engine will not desintegrate if you go over that time. Austin can do what Austin wants to do, its his Airbus! 😆
  23. what has full throttle have to do with THR LK? That is dependent on AoA!
  24. Two new pictures up on the official Facebook and Twitter channels:
  25. Hehe, Alexander 🙂 I have really no idea why the mod deleted my comment or your quote of it, it was just a bit of a joke in the spirit of the original https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/thats-what-she-said ...probably misunderstood it for critique of the poster I quoted? Oh well, it wasn't important, and I guess humor does not always transfer true in the written word, only. Cheers, Jan
