  1. Hi Tony, I would suggest entering the phrase "Ortho4XP" into your google search window and hit enter. You will then find the no.1 premier site that will be able to answer all of your questions pretty much straight to the point. I have never tried the tool, but I understand that there is a bit of a learning curve - with the payout being that you can finely tune the generated orthophoto scenery to your needs. Coming from MSFS you need to give up on the hope to create something that will look "as good" - there are benefits to using X-Plane, but there are drawbacks, too - scenery fidelity and graphics certainly being the premier one. Trying to get "the best of both worlds" will fail. Its like setting up a bulk cargo delivery service but insisting to do so with sportscars only because you like going really fast. 😉 Cheers, Jan
  2. I got it and tried to shoot some approaches in Honolulu...but the fuel didn´t last far enough to fly all that way from the Ostfront!
  3. Tinkerers will always tinker - and it is one of the reasons that X-Plane draws them, it is very accessible and you can really transform it. I personally have never done any of the things you mention (well, I have played with the LOD settings in settings.txt), but other than that I just fly X-Plane totally default. I don´t even download custom airports. Add-on aircraft, yes. I do work a lot with WED making Scenery Gateway airports, though. And you can see the same in MSFS - initially people thought that the days of tweaking visuals and hoarding custom airports are over, but there are tweaks and customizations for everything, not unlike there are for X-Plane. There will always be users who think that for the same version the sky is too blue - or not blue enough 😉 I think the problem with posts getting locked or people banned with warnings is that the discussions here are often not driven by scientific interest, but by barely concealed disdain towards the other platform. These emotions are very hard to keep in check and start leaking through in posts...so things heat up quickly. Respecting the "other" simulators right of existence and it´s users prerogative in making a choice of what sim to use is the prerequisite to discussions staying on topic. The mods have to walk a super thin line between stifling discussion and keeping emotions in check. I don´t envy them. Thanks for taking part in the discussion, and your good wishes for both platforms are noted 👍.
  4. Well, I mean it is no secret that rka and me are not really friends - and I am really not innocent myself and would be a better man if I could refrain from adding those little pinpricks about "seeing your house" and such... Sorry for that. 😑 The sad thing is that no one here (except for one guy) really contests that MSFS has better graphics and nicer scenery! The point is conceded 100%, I don´t know why this needs to be argued over and "rubbed in" again and again? Some of us like this simulator better, they forego the nicer graphics for various reasons and they have every right to make that choice. We can discuss and explain our choices and preferences, and I think that definitely has room in a hobbiest forum. But there are some rules and conventions to go by if the discussion is to stay fruitful and civil. If someone says "I prefer X-Plane because when I fly my complex aircraft I rarely have time to look out of the window" it is not helpful to twist this into "LOL, this guy said its impossible to look out of an aircraft´s window (because "no time = impossible"), look at 'em dumb X-Plane users, LOL" out of it. That feels like arguing with my wife (who I love very much)! Lets stay true to what people say (and the way they mean it) and not twist and split hairs. There MUST be some appeal to X-Plane that elevates it over MSFS for some people, otherwise there wouldn´t be thousands of users every day firing up XP11 with its dated graphics...instead of MSFS. Lets accept that fact and I welcome insight into what MSFS does different and/or better. There should be no taboo on any "other simulator mentioning" in a forum, that is really cult-like and smacks of insecurity. But give common courtesy and be mindful of the community you enter when posting here. I have almost completely given up (except for emergencies when they really beat up someone mentioning X-Plane) on posting anything in the MSFS forum, it has gotten to the point that rivals the medievial inquisition - even the die-hard MSFS fans need to open any post that could be interpreted as the slightest form of critique with several disclaimers of "I love MSFS" and "MSFS is all I will ever use" and "MSFS is the greatest gift to simmers ever"...before asking for help with a problem they have, or else the mob will tar and feather before burning the heretic at the stake. It is really rabid, and if you look through the posts it has become a meaningless forum with only featuring announcements for new add-ons and posts where the usual suspects sing the praise of Asobo and Microsoft... to bait the dissenters so they can purge their ranks of them, no doubt. 😅 Let´s not be like that here. Cheers, Jan
  5. This can sometimes happen when exiting VR, at least it did to me.
  6. Really? 🤣 Sorry, that is splitting hairs, some might even say ridiculous. I should not have to explain to a grownup that "not necessary" and "won´t have time to do it" is not the same as "impossible"... but it appears that in your case an explanation is needed. It is very tough, if not impossible, to have a serious discussion, governed by the laws of logic, with someone who is twisting and bending even the most basic conventions to make his point.
  7. Well, no one said that it is not possible to look out of aircraft´s windows. Or maybe someone did? Can you find that for me? I WILL say - however - that it is not necessary to look out of an IFR equipped aircrafts windows following IFR rules and procedures to appropriate airports, except for the stretch from the parking position to the runway and the takeoff run and from the minimum of your approach (which may be 0 feet) until you are parked at the stand again. Ask me how I know 🙂 You may not see your house on those flights 😉
  8. Of course no one is advocating that a simulator should strive to have bad ground textures 😅. We have discussed this very subject roughly 100 times since MSFS came out. We all mostly agreed that having great scenery that looks like the real world as much possible is desirable for every simulator, but different simulator companies have different resources and also different priorities - thats why some simulators have nicer scenery than others. What Gary was saying (I think) is that different types of flying have different demand for great scenery. If you fly for sightseeing, flying over a uniformly green flat pane would not be satisfactory - if you train IFR procedures, you would actually not need any scenery at all. Not even taxiways. Before I get misunderstood (on purpose 🙄) by the usual suspect, I want to add and emphasize that having superb scenery does not preclude training IFR procedures at all.
  9. The problem is twofold - first a lot of designers stay quiet until they have something substantial to show. Both to control hype (not start it too early) and also to not give competitors any new ideas so they may start on the same aircraft. Second there is a bit of a slowdown in development for X-Plane right now, some designers have gone where the picking is more rich (MSFS), some are waiting to see how XP12 pans out, both in new aircraft development requirements and public reception.
  10. Anything else would have surprised all of us 😄
  11. I wish we at the XP forum could be as open minded and welcoming to other opinions and simulator choices as you guys here (and especially, you, rka, my shining example!) are! God, if you are not the man of double standards, then who is?
  12. If you are technologic enough to add all those plugins to X-Plane you should also be technologic enough to replace them with newer versions. Nvidia drivers can be downloaded from Nvidia. The are not easy to find, though, you have to google "Nvidia drivers" to do that! 😆 Flight Simulation is a very technologic hobby, and if you are not technologic, it may not quite be the perfect one for you, as updating software and drivers from time to time will be a necessity to enjoy a troublefree experience - as you just found out.
  13. All of the above. At any rate, did updating the drivers or going to Vulkan help?
  14. It took me 35 seconds to find this thread at the support forum - which sounds surprisingly close to what you described: https://forums.x-pilot.com/forums/topic/23358-open-ctd-cl650waas_apic205/ Hopefully this is more helpful! 😉
  15. My pleasure 😉 Seriously - you come here with a very intricate problem and provide next to no information and then expect some helpful input? This is frustrating and a waste of time for everyone reading your post. If you feel that you should not go to the support forum for whatever reasons https://forums.x-pilot.com/forums/forum/266-challenger-650/ then at LEAST attach your full log.txt so we can see what is going on with your system. The problem is - unless you are sure which part of the log.txt is relevant to your problem, you can´t really post that part of the log.txt. And if you know, you don´t need to post it 😉 Oh, and you are missing one simulator in your signature, I think. 😅
  16. Your decent what? And if you tend to freeze up while operating the CL650, try to loosen yourself, take things not so serious, tell yourself it is just a simulation! Now a totally outrageous idea: Why don´t you ask about your problem in the dedicated support forum for that airplane, where not only most other users but also the developers themselves read along and might give you an educated and concise answer?
  17. You also need to charge it very slowly or it might get too hot. And don´t charge it past 90%, that is bad for the accumulators! 😁
  18. How can she do that when every responsible pilot would have his phone in airplane mode?? 😆
  19. I am using the command Disco servos, flt dir. (sim/autopilot/servos_fdir_off) to disconnect the autopilot and resume manual flight without flightdirectors. But a more realistic option would be to bind two keys (buttons), one to Servos toggle. and one to Flight directors toggle.
  20. The main focus of XP12 - as for every other version of X-Plane - IS the flight model. Everything else is of secondary importance. That is what Goran was saying. What you are saying is that the main effort exerted on the transition from XP11 to XP12 was not the flightmodel, which is correct. The flightmodel was already extremely good in XP11, so only nuances were improved. The main effort was spent on improving the visual fidelity of X-Plane.
  21. You need to look at the bindings under the "autopilot" subsection. X-Plane distinguishes between FD (flight director) and AP (Servos) and there are several options in that subsection, so you can choose which ones you want to disconnect. There are other options to engage the autopilot systems (FD and Servos) as well.
