  1. Has anyone tried the Pimax 4k VR headset? This boasts much better resolution than HTC or Oculus so in theory should give you a better view of instruments when flying? Cheers
  2. Hi, Appreciate this is slightly off topic, but I'm currently putting together my personal xmas list.. and I am consdering moving from my current setup to a triple monitor solution. Information you might find useful: Haswell i7 running at around 4.2GHz 24GB RAM Windows 10 Pro 1080TI The current screens I have are a 1080p 42" TV.. and a 22" wide (I think) LG LCD.. the LG is quite old.. I'm just wondering what setups people have got and if they have any recommendations.. I generally fly PMDG, FSLabs and Majestic A/C... rarely.. GA these days.. Some have suggested I get an ultra wide screen.... others have said get 3 28" screens 1440p.. others say just get a new 4k 42" panel.. (TV) Thoughts and opinions welcome. What about... a single curved ultra wide?... perhaps with 2 standard wides either side? Regards Craig Read
  3. Personally I had a lot of OOMs with P3D v3.4, I do have many addon airports and a lot of orbx scenery though so it's no wonder really, but I do like the rich look and feel that all gives to the experience. As for porting over, I've not found it particularly difficult, most addons worked in P3Dv4 within a few weeks, airliners took a bit longer but I had a decent hanger in a month or two of release, essentially I am now right back where I was on P3D v3.4 with all my addon aircraft installed and the majority of my scenery (I think bar about 4 airports). Once P3Dv4 came out I started a clean slate, and v4 was my only sim, didn't think it was worth muddying the waters running multiples, just a bit of patience needed. Cheers
  4. Thanks for the reply Alan, a lot of really useful information there.. Agreed the first one has some major faults with it, this one is much more thorough and more time has been spent proof reading. I've obtained permission from all relevant parties now so I'm good to go, will be looking at Amazon as a potential medium, then might speak to Avsim directly about what I can do with them and how that works. Thank you! Regards
  5. HI, I have been having this for some time, P3D V4 will pause, go to 'not responding' then come back again. It can be quite annoying particularly if you're on approach and it does it. I've not managed to limit it to a single aircraft either. The best way I can describe it, is it's as if FSUIPC is saving the flight.. the pause is for a few seconds, however FSUIPC is not set to do so and also it generates no saved flights. So I am not sure where to start really, apologies if this is already covered.. if so please point me to the threads.. Regards
  6. Hi, I've written rather an extensive tutorial about how to fly the PMDG 777 from EGLL to KSFO. It takes the simmer through all the stages of planning, fuel, weight, weather, alternate selections (ETOPS, on route), step climbs.. etc..... Setting up of the aircraft from a typical "Gate State", taxi.. takeoff.. climb.. cruise.. It's rather long, and I've obtained permission to include the images of the appropriate charts for the flight from Navigraph, and weather files from AS2016. It's written for P3DV4, but the tutorial is really about the plane, rather than the simulation platform.. so could be read across to other platforms that have the PMDG 777. I'm trying to gather interest for this, I wrote a tutorial many years ago for the PMDG 747 back in 2007 or so.. (can't remember when exactly).. from EGLL to KLAX, you should probably find it on AVSIM or knocking around the internet.. just search for "PMDG 747 Craig Read EGLL KLAX" and you should pick it up.. The 777 tutorial is a level of detail above this however.. I'm trying to gather interest for this, but this time I'd like to charge a modest fee for it. At the moment I'm thinking £5.99 per software copy. I'm really coming here to see if the community would be interested in this? Regards Craig Read
  7. Any chance you could put the new panel states on a download somewhere so I can just pull them down and overrwrite just in case (I have done the update so I've either changed them myself or its something else)? I've had to remake my "LONG" panel state manually using the default cold and dark state, this appears so far to have fixed the problem. Thanks
  8. I'm having a master caution show (no reason and I can't cancel it) on engine start using the LONG panel state. Trying using the default now and re-saving a LONG panel state. Regards
  9. I guess if there are cheap quick wins to be had they'd go for it, especially if this R&D benefits already existing programmes that are in train (specifically the Air Force One replacement)... so why not push them out in a vain attempt to drum up some more interest.. .. If we're being honest Air Force One is the main reason the 747-8 exists and the production and support alone for that project might be enough for the whole programme to wash it's own face financially.. I think the US government would probably pay through the nose to avoid the embarrassment of having an A380 carry their leader around.. Other than that sales of the 747-8 (and let's be fair to it) are a complete disaster.. On a personal note, I love the 747, favourite plane bar none... love it.. I think it's sad that we're likely to see less and less of these iconic aircraft as time marches on.. but things come and go..
  10. Aren't 403 errors 'authorisation / authentication' errors? i.e. the server has responded with a 403 deny.. and if it's responded, you're talking to it, therefore the route to it is ok (assuming you're talking to the right server of course)? Not saying I know for sure just trying to assist..
  11. I use standard windows anti-virus, so windows defender. Like I said simply selecting the file, for example if I want to look at the properties of the file takes an age. I'm assuming the machine is doing some background checking and this is why it takes so long.
  12. Could this be why whenever I right click or click on SimServer.exe my system goes to a crawl. This also happens with the OverheadClient.exe too... note.. no other files exhibit this behaviour..
  13. I'm in the same boat, no news on this one I take it? Weird that it seems to work 'ok' with the 747 and 777 though... it only appears to be a problem with the NGX for me.
  14. James, I noticed it still requires a fix, but if there has been no announcement or response to your ticket, it's safe to assume no news. I am sure they'll be in touch when something changes. To those who are arguing that this is not a bug.. the facts are, it is a bug, and this bug has been accepted by the team. It is true that the videos shown here show slight drift in the thrust during takeoff, but not the steady increase of thrust during take off seen in the PMDG rendition. This doesn't make the product unusable, but I can understand the frustration it causes. I guess the fact things like this are being reported as bugs is a testament to the level of quality and faithful replication the sim community has come to expect from them, and the keen eye of simmers... you could say PMDG are a victim of their own success ;)
  15. I'm afraid there are no issues with the file associations in Windows. If i load them independently from the folder there are no issues at all. If i try to use the links, the OC appears to start two instances (in Task Manager) of Adobe Reader DC, if I don't terminate these manually Adobe won't execute at all from that point (loading another PDF, starting the app from start.. etc.. etc). If I don't terminate the process any further start of Adobe through anything starts a further two instances (making me have 4), if I click the link again in the OC, another 2 (6 now) and so on.. If I terminate them all, so none are running and go to load the PDFs directly, it's all normal again.. untill I use the link in the OC.. Ryan asked if I'd tried Foxit.. I installed that, made the file association, and the link in the OC works fine.. but not with Adobe.. It never has for me I am afraid.. and I use all the Adobe apps and it should probably work with the standard software from the developer of the actual PDF format surely ;) ... (yanking everyone's chain here.. take with some jest).. In terms of the Windows install, it's Windows 10 Pro.. and quite a recent rebuild for P3D v4.. it's also fully patched.. Anyway I'll wait till the latest back on the ticket.. But it's not stopping me doing anything, it's just an irritant. Cheers
  16. I have the same problem..I have raised a ticket for it...using adobe if I try to open links from the OC it doesn't launch properly...I get the same result.. using other apps it works e.g. Foxit... Waiting on them to progress but I suspect they have their hands full so need to be patient...
  17. Just to contribute here, I didn't bother de-activating my licenses before uninstall / re-install and it worked fine for me without any issues at all. Did you restart your machine between uninstall / reinstall? (I don't do this)...
  18. I've had this problem with the operations centre for some time.. I don't think I've ever been able to access the PDF's via it.. it often just crashes.. For example.. just now... An exception has occured! Please contact PMDG support by submitting a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com for help with resolving this issue. Press "Copy to clipboard" below and then paste the information into your support ticket. Additionally, a log file has been created at: c:\users\craig\appdata\roaming\pmdg\pmdg operations center\PMDG Operations Center.log Please attach this file to better help us fix this issue. The application will now exit. 06/26/17 19:42:24 Exception: Access Violation at 0x6D164DF6 I'll submit a ticket now... Cheers Craig Read [EDIT] Ticket submitted.. included as much information as I could..
  19. Ah thank you for that! I've learned something, I didn't realise it did that! I'd not noticed it before I will go and study the section. The richness of the simulation is impressive. Regards Craig Read
  20. Hi, It may be a mistake I am making and perhaps a misunderstanding but I have a query regarding the fuel system. I am currently taxiing out to a runway at EHAM in PH-BFA and I have 93.4Kgs (x1000) on board. Tanks show: MAIN 1; 13.3 MAIN 2; 29.4 MAIN 3; 29.4 MAIN 4; 13.3 CENTRE; 0.0 RES 1; 4.0 RES 2; 4.0 STAB; 0.0 In terms of my overhead - FUEL X FEED (1) shows ON i.e. button pushed white bar showing. - FUEL X FEED (2) shows ON i.e. button pushed white bar showing (guarded switch closed). - FUEL X FEED (3) shows ON i.e. button pushed white bar showing (guarded switch closed). - FUEL X FEED (4) shows ON i.e. button pushed white bar showing. In terms of fuel pumps, all on (including OVRD pumps) except CTR L, CTR R, STAB L and STAB R. My query is, on my status page for the fuel system FUEL X FEED 2 and 3 show as closed i.e. off centre, no green bar through the valve. If I then change the switches manually for X FEED 2 and 3, this has no effect. I tried to cycle these switches through OFF and ON (opening the guard etc) and no effect. I then wondered if this part of the automatics, so figured if I turned off MAIN 2 FWD and AFT pumps the valve would open as there was no fuel pumping to engine 2, but it didn't. Can someone explain this behaviour to me? Regards Craig Read
  21. Hi, I am waiting, like I know others probably are too, for the latest iteration of FSUIPC for Prepar3D v4. The main reason I use it is for control assignments, particularly for controlling the autopilot, setting toga, and reverse thrust per engine. Using FSUIPC I can set a keyboard command and assign that to a button on my yoke, I can also assign individual engine reverse thrust using FSUIPC using 'Throttle x Dec' and 'Throttle x Cut' functions to the reverse button on and release on my throttles. My question was raised as Pete had been pondering whether or not he'd update FSUIPC for P3D v4, and fortunately he decided he would and it should be released soon on simmarket. This got me thinking, is there an alternative to do what I have been doing with FSUIPC that I am simply unaware of? I've done some searching but I could be looking for the wrong thing, I'm really not sure. Does anyone have a view? I have looked in the P3D settings for controls, and you can assign reverse thrust, but it's generic covering all engines. I'm posting this question here in the hope other PMDG users might be able to shed some light or suggest alternative ways of doing this. Regards Craig Read
  22. This is fantastic news! I have a couple of questions though that if someone from PMDG might like to answer. I imagine that the constraints of VAS have been a limiting factor in features and functions within flight sim aircraft for some time, is this correct? For example texture sizes, full aircraft modelled in flight deck view etc.. sounds.. and so on.. I'm just guessing not being a developer myself. Are you able to give us an idea of the significance of this change in terms of what it will enable you to do that you couldn't do in the past? I am sure others would be really interested as well. Cheers
  23. Full names are required in the forum for any help to be provided. I may be incorrect, but the message you are seeing seems to correlate with pirated PMDG software being installed on the machine in question. But I am sure one of the moderators will say something. Regards
