  1. Not sure what happened here. I loaded GEX Enh and the 1.2 update to UTX and suddenly seemed to have the blurries. This after saying several times how well my limited system runs FSX. So I tried to go back to the default textures by installing the backup files in GEX and turning off UTX. Now real problems.I tried repairing FSX then it wouldn't run at all. So I've uninstalled SP2 and SP1 and uninstalled FSX. This removed the FSX files under my user name but left all the files in the main FSX folder. So now I'm trying to reinstall and am about halfway through. I may need help later. My biggest question now is why did the uninstall leave all the files in the main folder (I have the install on disk D, a second partition on my single hard drive.
  2. Is the air file created from and by the cfg file? Does the air file determine flight parameters which I thought were from the cfg file?
  3. Would someone explain to a rookie what the air file is and does. How is it related to the aircraft.cfg file?
  4. FWIW even though I use the CHproducts yoke I don't think I can answer your question. However, CHproducts has an excellent forum which has provided me many answers. Right now I'm using their CH control manager to double the number of buttons/switches on the yoke. Really handy.
  5. The beautiful thing about simming is how many ways there are to enjoy it.
  6. I just reread my message and realized how stupid it sounded. What I meant was just as you get your landing set up save the flight. Then you can reopen it and re-fly it as often as you wish. DUH!!
  7. Another way is to fly a favorite flight just as you're setting up your landing. Then you can start the flight from there anytime.
  8. This test seemed flawed to me. The plane still had forward motion. With forward motion the wings developed lift.
  9. "Loop-n-roll mentioned about locking the frame rate but I will refer back to my original post, that if I lock the frame rate lower, say 25, I never achieve 25fps, it's always 5-8 fps lower. If I run unlimited, the sim reaches higher fps (dependent on location)and is much smoother.I think I should clarify that my settings are giving me good performance. When I pan around with my yoke hat switch, it is very smooth. It is just a matter of jerkiness when using TrackIR."You miss my point: You don't need a high frame rate for a good flight experience. 20 fps is fine for a smooth simulation. Free your computer to do other processing by limiting frames. Also, panning with the hat switch requires almost no processor power but Track IR does. Also, FS9 needs a fraction of what FSX needs so I expect Track IR to run better with it.
  10. Suggest you set you fps limit to 25. A movie plays at 24 so you only need about 20 or so to give an acceptable picture. When you set unlimited, you tell your computer to devote max resources to flying and leave little for anything else. Also, set Track IR to always run the flight profile.
  11. I know I can go into the learning center and print out the default key assignments. However, I've modified the key assignments quite a bit. Is there anyway to print out the as-modified version?
  12. Everyone seems to recognize that walking into a store, picking up a piece of packaged software and walking out without paying is stealing. For some reason those very same people will download music, movies and software from the internet without the same moral conscience. People who create music, software, or whatever deserve compensation for their creativity. People who download pirated software are thieves just as if they walked into a store and shoplifted a boxed version. Downloading a pirated program and then asking for support is the outer limit of thievery. If you download pirated software, you're a thief just as if you walked in the store and took it out without paying."And that's all I have to say about that."
  13. I have not tried this; however, Ultimate Terrain X has a menu option to move FSX. Don't know if it works or how it works, just thought I'd pass this on.On this computer, I had the single hard drive divided into 2 partitions when I bought it. One partition for all the "normal" stuff and the other for flight simulators. I have FSX, FS9, and Xplane on the flying partition with no problems. On the "flight" partition I turned off indexing to keep the files as originally installed. So far all is working well.I find I don't use FS9 or Xplane at all any more, but I dont' need the drive space yet so I let them stay on.
  14. Since you asked:I'm always impressed by the realism included in the basic program. OK, ATC could use some additional improvements, but it's fine for the beginner. If I want improvements, I can buy them somewhere else or go to VATSIM or IVAO or Radar Contact. If I don't want the animals or the autogen, I can turn them off. If I don't want enhanced scenery, I can turn it down. On the other hand, a beginner may want the games to get them to buy. In short, MS has made a good basic sim for $69 that can be enhanced with aircraft, ai aircraft, more scenery, ground textures, etc. and suits a lot of people. You can spend what you want. If they put all we want in it, there would not be enough purchases to defray the cost of development.Want something really boring; go to the local flight school and ask for a ride in the GA sim. I had the chance to do that last year and other than the cockpit layout (real controls, etc.) it wasn't as "real" as our home computer sims. All in all, this is a great program.
  15. Several posters have suggested they use TrackIR with the big planes. I like it for GA, but find the VC to be difficult to use with the bigger planes when it's nice to see more of the panel in a single screen. To those who use TrackIR with the big iron, have you set it differently somehow or just learned to use it effectively? Suggestions?
  16. I thought I posted this but can't find it. If it shows up, please excuse the double post.In FS9 roller coasters in the amusement parks are running but not in FSX. I have advanced animations checked; Have I missed something or are these not activated in FSX?
  17. When landing using the default ATC, ATC gives taxi instructions to a particular parking spot based on the aircraft; i.e. GA to GA parking and Commercial to a gate. Is there a way, when flying GA aircraft, to request taxi to a different parking spot?Related question: is there a way to know ahead of time which way to exit the runway? Seems like every time I land I wind up having to cross the runway I just left to get to the assigned spot.
  18. They're still in business. I was lucky and got my delivery the day before Christmas. I know they had some supply problems but we're trying to get things out. Like I said, I was a lucky one.
  19. Has anyone gotten the Carenado Archer for FSX? If so, how is it? Is it worth the $17.00?I know some have had difficulty with other models from this company and realize from the forum that customer support is lacking, but how is this model?Should I wait for the Dreamfleet Archer to come out for FSX?
  20. How do you turn off the autotune feature?
  21. Go to the learning center. Click on Index then on K and choose key commands. You'll find a printable list there.
  22. Desert Flyer,Their website has a demo that shows how the system works. You might want to take a look there. A little movement of your head results in a lot of movement in the view.http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/
  23. Makes flying GA aircraft much more realistic and easy. Just turn your head, move up, look down, look out the window and down at the same time. Amazing the way it works. I don't like it for airliners because I like to use the 2D panel for those.
