  1. I refuse to use FaceBook - does that eliminate Oculus 2 as an option for me when flying in MSFS?
  2. I am VR naïve but very interested in trying it. When flying in VR mode - how do I see and use my CH Yoke and throttle quadrant? Do I have to do everything by touch?
  3. I am having this problem in several aircraft. It seems to be a mouse issue - when I place the cursor over a knob (e.g. Alt or AP) and see a hand appear and then click - sometimes nothing happens. If I move the cursor just a mm or two, the hand remains in place but when I click the button works. This is new, IMHO, to SU7 - it used to be that WHEN the cursor hand appeared - then the button always worked but that is not the case, at least on my system, since SU7.
  4. Thanks for posting this. I was looking at the LVFR static aircraft thru Contrail yesterday and that page showed only the original 41 airports. Now it has been updated
  5. I agree with that statement! I did correct almost all the data streaming and lost connection errors by deleting two lines from host (no suffix) and hosts.ics files. Since doing that I have had NO TCP errors. However, I have several sets of notes about the same errors which, are dated months before GoogleMaps mod became available. I have TCP trace files from way back then showing flightsim.exe and the Bing/Azure servers both issuing RESET commands, which then lead to the disconnect and data streaming error messages. I believe that most of the recent TCP errors are caused by incorrect shutdown of the GoogleMap replacement mod (command prompt window) and will be fixed by cleaning those files. BUT... I am convinced there are also Bing/Azure server problems.
  6. Indeed you are correct! I did delete the lines you describe (made them into comments) and flew (using Bing/Azure data) a complex 90-minute flight with a STAR and ILS approach with no problems and a steady 55+ fps rate. I also had my typical 52-mods loaded into the sim. MY confusion (and I suspect others might be similarly confused based on comments here) is that there are TWO files of concern in ...Drivers/etc - hosts.ics and host (no type suffix). BOTH of them need to be set back to "normal Flightsim 2000" settings AFTER running the GoogleMaps mod. I had only been paying attention to hosts.ics because, during the early days of this problem, host (no type) was empty, containing only comments explaining what the file could be used for. Sometime during my testing, and probably mishandling the GoogleMaps mod, the two lines I mentioned ( 127.0.0.1 kh.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net & 127.0.0.1 khstorelive.azureedge.net) were added to hosts (no type suffix). When you described deleting those files I did a whois on the url and found both lines (urls) point to MicroSoft Bing/Azure data servers. So I assumed (and that makes me one) the lines had been added by flightsim and not the GoogleMaps mod. Thus I saw no reason to delete them. Now, following your advice, I see deleting those lines in host (no type suffix) solved the "low bandwidth" problem. I did discover another disturbing aspect of the GoogleMaps mod - after flightsim.exe had a CTD while running the mod - I forgot to STOP the mod and instead killed it so it did not do it's cleanup. That left two lines in host.ics as has been discussed. I then ran the GoogleMaps mod again and started flightsim.exe. This time the sim ran to completion and I stopped the mod in a graceful fashion. I did see in the cmd pmpt window that the mod told me it deleted the two added lines in hosts.ics. When I opened hosts.ics I found there were still TWO lines in there. I then did some more testing and found that WHEN the two lines are left in hosts.ics, due to user error, the mod, when started again, adds TWO MORE identical lines and then deletes ONLY the two lines it had added during the immediate execution. The mod does not check to see if hosts.ics contains the necessary lines prior to adding them and it does not verify that it has deleted ALL copies of the two lines when it normally ends. A lot of confusing stuff here - BUT the bottom line for me is twofold: 1) The GoogleMap mod provides exquisite image in the areas I fly VFR low and slow 2) The GoogleMap mod is safe and easy to use IF the user follows the detailed instructions precisely and completely.
  7. My TCP traces and ProcMon traces do not show any high jacking or any of the changes you suggest. My host file does not contain any of the stuff you describe. This is my host file while I am having trouble: 127.0.0.1 kh.ssl.ak.tiles.virtualearth.net 127.0.0.1 khstorelive.azureedge.net Any line in host that begins with a # is a comment and thus not effective
  8. My C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/Etc contains: hosts (a file created by the GoogleMap mod) hosts.ics (the required file-but my flightsim works fine without it)
  9. That does happen to me occasionally and I see flightsim.exe reading a sound file over and over - I can't figure out what the sound file is used for but I just kill the sim and kill the googlemap replacement bat file. I then restart the bat file (always run as administrator), press Run, test the connection, and then start the sim again and it almost always loads the sim and runs fine.
  10. I just completed a 60-minute flight from KSAN out over the desert and back to KSAN using GoogleMaps replacement - NOT A Single data lost or data streaming error during the entire flight. I ran Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4 the entire time and trapped every TCP event coming from or to flightsim.exe. The timing of the events, the frequency of a slow response, the duration of the slow response was very similar to what I see when using Azure/Bing Data World graphics - yet flightsim.exe never generated an error or tried to turn off Bing Data World Graphics. Just as I was lining up the on the ILS 09Z approach to KSAN - I got the screen box messaging saying flightsim encountered an error and is stopping and the program terminated. The TCP monitor showed the error was caused by userpresence.xboxlive.com.akadns.net (52.138.119.101) sending a 0 byte message to flight sim port 54694 with a TCP flag of RESET - immediately upon receiving that message - Proc Mon shows flightsim.exe going into an error handling routine. The TCP transaction prior to xboxlive sending a RESET to flightsim.exe was a message from xboxlive with a PUSH TCP flag (forces the app to accept the data even if the buffer is not full/complete), which took more than 530 milliseconds to complete. As far as I can see in the trace data - that was the only time xboxlive pushed data into flightsim.exe
  11. The file to open is Hosts.ics - normally Notepad defaults to only finding/opening files with a .txt extension. You need to use the All Files (*.*) option in the Text Documents (*.txt) at the far right of the File Name: box
  12. OK then - my apologizes! I do hope other readers note that what you say is necessary but not sufficient to resolve the data lost problem.
  13. In another thread you participated in - you advice is correct and what you suggest needs to done to reset the internet connection BUT... the problem described by the OP persists after following your excellent advice And that is what I said in the other thread
  14. I have told you several times that I verified the hosts.ics file is set appropriately. I have also told you that when these low bandwidth, lost connections errors occur - I can see flightsim.exe requesting Bing tiles and receiving those tiles in a timely fashion. That means - flightsim is communicating successfully with the Azure/Bing server but is telling the user it is no able to get the data. If you like - I can post the TCP monitor trace showing successful communications WHILE flightsim.exe is telling me there is a problem.
  15. I've written extensively about this problem and filed an official ZenDesk complaint. I've used TCP traces, program code traces, and ethernet monitors to localize the issue. EVERY time I get either the "Connection Lost" message or the "Data Streaming Issues" message I can find a TCP disconnect (Reset bit in the TCP flag) request sent by flightsim.exe to the Azure/Bing server. The server and my copy of flightsim then complete the 4-way disconnect as shown in the TCP trace. Usually there is a Reconnect sequence that begins within seconds of the Reset but about 20% of the time flightsim.exe does not attempt to reconnect to the Azure/Bing server. When that happens, I find Bing Data World Graphics is changed to OFF under flightsim General Options. The really annoying part of this problem is that flightsim.exe makes no attempt to return Bing Data World Graphics back to ON - even after it successfully reconnects to the Azure server. I find NO (Zero!) errors in any of the TCP traces and zero packet losses prior to flightsim.exe requesting the disconnect. BUT - I do find a TCP request from flightsim.exe that requires over 0.75 seconds to complete within a few TCP transactions prior to the disconnect (Reset request). There is only one or two slow TCP responses prior to each disconnect. However, I find similar lengthy TCP responses from the Azure platform that DO NOT cause flightsim.exe to send a Reset command to the server. AND, during the entire error sequence, my TCP load generator is receiving data from another server at a constant 340 to 440 Mb/second with low latency and ZERO errors/packet losses. I have provided these and more details to ZenDesk. I have a 500 Mb/sec fiber connection and never see less than 340 Mb/sec under any circumstances.
  16. I put together a package of monitors, stress testers, and test flights to determine if there really is a problem with lost connections or streaming errors/failures - ALL now done under SU7 PC/Stream/Win 10 - Nothing running on PC except monitors and sim - NO security or firewall active - Comcast 500 Mbs fiber connection. Ran a continuous load against the internet and measured an Average/Minimum Download speed of 440Mbs/390 Mbs. The Upload speed was always within 5% of 24Mbs and the Average/Maximum Ping was 19/24ms. Ran a continuous load against the internet AND ran flightsim.exe while monitoring thruput/latency/packet loss Five test flights with nothing in the community folder while using the C172/G1000 exactly as delivered by Asobo In five flights, each lasting 10-minutes: Ten occurrences of "Lost Connection" that did not result in BING Graphics being turned off - The minimum Download speed was 175 Mbs at the time of the message and the maximum was 420 Mbs at the time of the message Ten occurrences of "Lost Connection" that did not result in BING Graphics being turned off - The minimum Download speed was 175 Mbs at the time of the message and the maximum was 420 Mbs at the time of the message Six occurrences of "Lost Connection" or "Data Streaming Error" that DID result in BING Graphics being turned OFF - The minimum Download speed was 165 Mbs at the time of the message and the maximum was 410 Mbs at the time of the message There were 0 (zero) lost packets during any of the flights and the maximum/average latency was 30ms and 20ms. At no time during any of the test flights did the Upload speed (my PC to server) deviated from the no load average of 24 Mbs. Even when flightsim.exe was telling me there was a lost connection - I was uploading at >24Mbs. It appears that my internet connection and data thruput rate is pretty good but flightsim.exe is finding a reason to generate an error and turn off Bing Graphics. The problem is so pervasive at times that I cannot fly more than 60-seconds without the Bing Graphics being turned off. This problem began under SU5, got worse under SU6, and is now making it almost impossible to fly under SU7. I also get the "low bandwidth" message while the sim is loading despite the internet load testing never showing less than 300 Mbs download speed during the sim loading. I run ProcMon while the sim is running and can find absolutely NO network errors or oddities, which might explain the error messages. I look for long TCP response times and find none. What the heck do I do next?
  17. I had your problem plus Direct To could not find most nav fixes/intersections and trying to select an approach when in flight resulted in only the Visual approaches being available. Turned out that the linkage between Navigraph and flight sim had been broken. I updated the Navigraph Airac using the Navigraph Data Center app and now all the nav stuff is working OK. This problem started two days before SU7 - I don't know how the linkage was broken.
  18. PC/Steam The following problems occur with stock G1000 and G3000 as well as the G1000Nxi and WTG3000. All my WT mods are the most current available. I have seen this problem in the C172/G1000, G36, G36 Turbo, TBM 930, Improved TBM 930 Three days ago - none of these problems were occurring. ILS/Loc, VOR1, and VOR2 are tuned properly but every PFD display shows "no data" - even when flying directly toward a VOR at short range or on final approach, directly in line with ILS at the correct altitude. There is nothing I can do to make ILS/VOR work. The NAV1 and NAV2 speaker makes no morse code sound thus indicating they are not receiving any data. The FMS will accept a flight plan from the World Map or loaded from a file (e.g. downloaded from SimBrief) and will fly the plane on that plan. The G3000 can fly a STAR and provides good VNAV guidance. The G1000 works perfectly as it follows a flight plan. The plan can be as complex as necessary with dozens of fixes/waypoints. BUT - I cannot make Direct To work as needed (it had been working perfectly until very recently). If I enter a unique FIX ID (e.g VP400) the FMS says it cannot find that fix (despite it being in the active fix in the flight plan). If I enter a FIX ID that exists somewhere else in the world, i.e. other than where I am flying, the FMS can find the remote fix (even if the remote fix is in the US where I am). The FMS does not find the FIX that Navigraph or the Nearest function in the G3000 shows to be local to my flight when I try to manually enter the FIX ID into the FMS. If I try to add a waypoint to the flight plan (while in flight) - I am told the waypoint does not exist - despite it appearing in Navigraph and Nearest in the G3000. The flight plan includes a destination airport, e.g. KBUR, but when I try to load an arrival or approach - the FMS will only display the VISUAL approaches. RNAV and ILS or VOR approaches are never displayed, even at monsters such as LAX. In World Map - all SIDS, STARS, Approaches are AUTOMATIC - I cannot specify a procedure even in Low or High Altitude flight plans. But - IF I create a SimBrief approach with a STAR and ILS or RNAV approach and save it to the Sim - then when I load that flight plan into the plane to fly - it works perfectly. When I load flight plans which, I created last week or last month in World Maps flight planner - they load and work perfectly but I cannot recreate the .pln if I want an approach or arrival. In summary - when flight plans are created with fixes the FMS uses them. When I try to manually reference a Fix or Intersection in the Sim (G1000 or G3000) the FMS does not recognize the fix - even when it appears in the Nearest List. Any ideas?
  19. I just completed five flights using GoogleMap Replacement and the same flight plans I have been using to test the Lost Connection. All flights (total of 150-minutes) completed successfully with not a single lost connection or data streaming error message. And, the scenery was spectacular! I flew with nothing in the Community Folder on the first two flights (TBM 930 and G36 Bonanza). I then loaded my normal complement of 52 addons and flew the same flights in the Improved TBM 930, the Robert Young Turbo, and the G36 Bonanza, DA62X. The TBM flight includes full use of a STAR and RNAV approach, including VNAV. It all works perfectly under Google Map Replacement. My addons include the Gaist boat package, Bijain trees, Bijan Seasons, We Love VFR Region 2, WT G3000 and RoadData, LVFR KSAN and LVFR Arex...etc I am pretty well convinced there is nothing wrong with my internet connection or the TCP system.
  20. Just flew the ASOBO/Stock G36 from KSAN -> KBUR with absolutely NO AP problems. I tried hard to upset the autopilot including many iterations of your tests. I got the plane into some steep banks while overpowering the AP - but as soon as I released the CH yoke - the AP (G1000Nxi is in the community folder) the plane gently returned to a normal attitude and proper heading. In the stock G36 - the in cockpit yoke follows the CH yoke movement - so it seems to only be the stock TBM 930 with a reversed yoke movement. I made NO changes to anything (as a tech support guy - I never believed the user when they said that) between the flight that had all the AP rolling/diving problem and this very stable flight. All very strange & challenging. Fortunately - I enjoy debugging/resolving mysteries as much as I do flying.
  21. I misspelled the file name - we are talking about the same file As I said - I can watch the traffic from the MS server - I can verify the tiles are being requested and received - I can verify there are NO lost packets, error messages or long latency. I can verify that each and every tile request has a "SUCCESS" completion code. As far as I can tell from multiple monitors - everything is working perfectly. But the Bing Graphics keeps getting turned off after the "internet connection issue" A new complication is that when I start the sim - OCCASIONALLY (about 20% of the time) the sim tells me my connection is too slow/the bandwidth is too narrow and starts the sim offline. I test the connection with OOKLA immediately before starting the sim and immediately after receiving the "slow" message - it never tests at less than 400 Mb/second. These problems occur at any of the many MS data farms (I can track the farm location with ip address and whatisit) and seem to have no correlation with time of day.
  22. Bert - I verified I have a 5% dead zone in the yoke X/Y axis and the slope of the response curve is quite flat (also tried with several other shapes) in the middle. I verified that just prior to and during the upset - the signal from the CH yoke fluctuates between 110 and 109 (scale is 0 to 255 - full left to full right). The yoke fluctuates 109 - 110 during all phases of controlled flight, which never seems to be a problem. Test 1 (gentle/slight yoke movement) does NOT cause a wing drop - even when sustained for 10 seconds Test 2 (full left/right yoke deflection) does cause AP breakout. Verified the above with the C172/G1000, G36 stock, RY Turbo G36, and TBM 930 as it comes from Asobo with NO WT G3000 mod. The really interesting result from Test 1 and Test 2 is that the yoke movement in the cockpit is REVERSED when the AP is engaged but the aircraft response is appropriate for the intended yoke movement. e.g - in TBM 930 with AP engaged in NAV/ALT mode - I move the CH Yoke right and the plane rolls right but the cockpit yoke image rolls left.
  23. An update to this problem: When I get the connection lost message - I NEVER see a lost packet or a decline in the rate at which the sim is requesting/receiving tiles from virtualearth.net and BING Graphis is never turned off When I get the message about there being an issue with data streaming - I USUALLY see that the rate at which the sim is requesting/receiving tiles from virtualearth.net does not decline. But about 1 out of 4 times I get the error message the traffic from virtualearth.net decreases by 90% BUT I do see a new tile being requested and received about once every 4 or 5 seconds when flying at 23,000' and 250kts TAS. When I get the message about there being an issue with data streaming - the BING Graphics is turned OFF almost every time but occasionally it is not turned off. IF BING Graphics is turned off - it never gets turned back on by the program - even when flightsim.exe is requesting and receiving BING data (virtualearth.net) at a very high and error free rate. Host.ics contains NO reference to any GoogleMap Replacement URLs. Please help - this is driving me crazy
  24. Verified that host.ics is blank as described in the Google maps replacement text file. I can verify that the TCP connections used by flight Sim are valid for Microsoft and virtualEarth.net and the tiles being received are coming from Microsoft/Bing. When flightsim.exe is running and I am receiving the connection lost message the images I see on the ground continue to be high-quality Bing images. At no time do I see any loss of visual quality. when flightsim.exe is running and I am receiving the connection lost message the images I see on the ground continue to be high-quality Bing images. At no time do I see any loss of visual quality. My main question isWhy is Bing graphics being turned off and not turn back on when the connection is reestablished?
