  1. I upgraded from 16GB to 32GB when I changed the processor from an i3-9100F to a i7-9700K. Flight Sim's usage of memory hardly changed with the upgrade. I never experience stutters so don't know if it helped with that. Using many different system performance monitors - I never see the memory in use (committ) by Flight Sim exceed about 14 GB when in VR mode and 8 - 10 GB when in 2D mode. I am very careful to kill any process running on the sim system that is not necessary for Flight Sim to run so other processes use very little memory. Flying in 2D mode - With my RTX 3060 Ti I am Main Thread limited. My 8-core machine runs at about 55% CPU busy with most of the work being done by 3-processors. The GPU runs about 60% busy. With almost all settings at Ultra / 200 I see 30 FPS flying around San Diego with LVFR KSAN loaded along with dozens of other scenery enhancements and 50+ when flying over SoCal mountains. Flying in VR mode - With my RTX 3060 Ti I am GPU limited (stays at 99% utilization) with 8GB GPU memory being fully used. My 8-core machine runs at about 35% CPU busy with most of the work being done by 3-processors. My FPS is 20 in downtown San Diego and about 32 - 35 out over the mountains. BUT - memory is cheap so I would do the upgrade - Just don't expect a huge increase in performance.
  2. I suddenly experienced the black screen at loading after many days of successful operation. I have tried every option discussed in the threads about this issue. -fastlaunch - remove USB - change audio - change drivers - virus exceptions - NO antivirus running - stop audio services Procmon and Proc Explorer show the sim issuing all the normal calls and directX wtites to the GPU. The GPU Is 38% busy but the framerate is 0. I can hear the various sounds thse sim makes while loading and the CPU for the sim is about 30% on an 8-core machine. All appears normal in every monitor and log What do I try next?
  3. I've done a lot of testing and "fooling around" with settings to see if I can reliably and consistently reproduce the "vibration" appearance. Short Answer: NO I've increased to 110 and decreased to 80 all combinations of sliders, sharpeners, and NSI Mod values. I've increased other settings from High to Ultra and then back to Medium. The vibrating image appears in some but not all flights. Once it begins in a flight - only shutting down the sim makes it go away. At my current settings - I only see the vibration in one of five or six flights.
  4. Tried that - did not work. I did not regain the controls until the MSFS window shut down.
  5. Well Yes - sort of - I had Navigraph chart open on a 2nd monitor - can't see it in VR but it is there when I remove the goggles - does that count?
  6. Flew 30-minutes from LAX to BUR via the scenic Big Bear area and then landed on the ILS 08 runway. All went well during the flight and the frame count stayed above 25 even while exploring FeelThere KLAX. As I approached KBUR (Orbx addon) the FPS dropped to 17 - 20 for a few seconds but then stabilized at 25 on touchdown and rollout. I thought I was being careless while taxiing to the GA terminal when I realized the pedals and yoke in the cockpit were not moving in response to my inputs. At that point the DA62x was stopped on a taxiway with the throttle at idle and the parking brake set and the FPS was around 5 to 7. I tried releasing the parking brake with the keyboard but it did not move in the cockpit. I tried advancing the throttle using the keyboard, but again no response in the cockpit. About 30-seconds later the parking brake released and the throttle advanced (no input from me) and the plane took off toward the GA terminal. I could do nothing to slow it because none of the inputs were working. I then found that the mouse cursor was gone and eventually determined that even the keyboard was not talking to the sim. The plane ran thru the parked aircraft, thru the fuel truck, into the terminal and just kept going with FPS at 22 but no crash damage. But - ESC did bring up Options, etc but I could not select anything because the mouse cursor was missing. ALT+4 did kill the sim and the mouse, keyboard, and controls again worked. This has happened a couple other times while flying in VR - sudden loss of controls, keyboard, mouse. Sometimes they come back to life - other times I have to kill the Sim. Steam version with only WMR & OpenXR running - (no Steam VR) Any thoughts on what is disconnecting my controls?
  7. Just flew two approaches to Rwy 15 on Approach LOC DME-E (111.15) in the DA62x with G1000NXi and was on the radio beam all the way to touchdown. The 2nd one - I tried getting off the beam, high and wide, at KICER and again at FIMSO and both time the G1000/CDI LOC kept pointing as it should. However, the 2nd time I landed the AP kicked off at 400' AGL despite being right on the centerline and two red/two white on the runway lights. Is that what you are describing?
  8. i7-9700K 32GB/RTX 3060Ti SteamVR/OpenXR Reverb G2 I finally got things working just the way I want and am very pleased with images/immersion. But, in the cockpit when I rotate my head (in vertical or horizontal axis) the entire instrument panel seems to "vibrate" when I initially move my head. The strong vertical or horizontal lines seem to move a mm or so back an forth and then stabilize. The effect is quite disturbing and almost makes me queasy. This started with a flight today in which I believe I had made NO changes to any sim parameters. I have stopped and restarted the sim several times but there is always that vibration of straight lines or even the entire dash. As long as I hold my head still - the G2 images are magnificent and stable. I see no such effect in Assetto Corsa Any ideas what might be causing this illusion?
  9. I am having trouble understanding the benefit of an automated "scenery gateway" because I cannot imagine anything much easier to use than flightsim.to. Each day I get on flightsim.to and check what is new and what is updated. The comments and user feedback in the form of questions on each addon page is essential for me in choosing what I want to move to my system. IF I want a scenery addon I click on Download and then click on the download folder on my local machine where it is to be stored and scanned by Avast. Just three button clicks and I have the item I CHOSE (not everyone in the wide world) on my flight sim system. I then click to unzip the new download and then click to move it to the appropriate Community folder. What can be simpler and provide me more choice and control? My AddOn Linker source folder is setup as a fairly complex tree structure with Continents/Regions/Countries/States so I can keep the scenery together with other items I might want to load into the sim. My AddOn linker has presets with a similar tree structure to allow me to load just the immediate scenery I want for a particular flight. The flightsim.to "My Downloads" link automatically shows me which addons need to be updated. The best part of the the whole flightsim.to process is the user feedback in terms of ratings and comments/questions. Why would I want to automate this process and loose all control of what I download and where it lives in my flight sim system? I do hope any such "scenery gateway" is optional!
  10. Tried all that and more - finally did a complete 127GiB reinstall of Flight Sim and WMR - now all works perfectly again
  11. I recently installed Windows Mixed Reality, OpenXR,SteamVR to support the HP Reverb G2 I purchased. It was a pretty easy process getting it all working. I flew a dozen flights, over about eight hours, all over San Diego to Burbank. The G2 VR world was fantastic and very immersive. I was so pleased! Then uninstalled all the Reshade 4.9.1 stuff I had used in 2D flight sim for the last year. After I used the Reshade unistaller - I could no longer load FlightSim 1.21.13.0 - just got a black screen with all the appropriate sounds. I asked Steam to verify the file integrity and it found 1 error and said it would reacquire the file. Now - when I start Flight Sim the Installation Manager Says: "Select additional content you want to install now or choose later in the marketplace" and shows a picture of the Standard Content package with MANDATORY UPDATE over the image and 126.78GiB as the data volume. Is there any way to avoid this huge download? How did unistalling Reshade (it was just a .dll and a texture and shaders file) cause me all this grief?
  12. Something is wrong with my Reverb G2 support for Flight Sim. I want to start the sim with NO OpenXR - NO WMR - NO SteamVR support. I do not want any of those apps/dlls to run. The G2 / WMR environment for the sim had been working perfectly but I now need to test the sim with NO VR environment or support. I cannot find a way to do that! I start the sim with steam://rungameid/1250410 with NO VR support of any kind loaded. But, SteamVR immediately loads and then the Sim starts loading all the WMR stuff and then goes into an endless loop calling OpenXR. HOW do I start the sim as if OpenXR / WMR / SteamVR had never been installed? The G2 is not connected to the CPU/GPU in any way. I can start the Steam version of Assetto Corsa and kill SteamVR when it tells me the headset is not attached. After that Assetto Corsa runs on the monitor with no VR support just like before I installed any VR support. Can't find a way to do that with Flight Sim! Assetto Corsa runs perfectly under control of WMR/SteamVR and looks/acts wonderfully in the G2 virtual world. So - I am pretty sure there is nothing wrong with the VR support on my system.
  13. Everything seemed to be working A-OK - I was very pleased with the images and the performance of my new Reverb G2 while flying around San Diego with lots of add ons making pretty. But, I kept getting a message about Reshade 4.9.1 was trying to load some effects but did not have sufficient authority. Months ago I decided to stop using Reshade and had forgotten about it. SO - I used the Reshade installer to uninstall the software and it told me the uninstall was successful. Now when I try to start flight sim (with the G2 plugged in and WMR and OpenXR running with Sim launched by Steam VR or G2 unplugged from display port and no VR stuff activated) I hear all the nice loading sounds but end up with a solid black screen and a green GeForce Experience (with no lettering) in the top right and some kind of light shaded gray box in the bottom right. Task Manager says Flight Sim is using 32% of my i7-9700K and 43% of the RTX 3060 Ti GPU but nothing appears on the black screen - over a period of 30-minutes. When the HP G2 is connected - my 32" 1080p monitor stays black but the G2 shows me the house on the hill with all the options. Steam VR says the game is running but I can't seem to find it anywhere in the G2 world. Using Proc Mon I can see that flight sim is endlessly talking to Open XR even when I have not started OpenXR/WMR/SteamVR and have the Reverb G2 disconnected from both the display port and the USB 3.0 connection. What have I done? How do I start Flight Sim with NO VR support of any kind? WHY is flightsime.exe trying to talk to OpenXR when I have not started any VR applications or support and have no VR hardware connected?
  14. New to the VR world but am very impressed with my new Reverb G2 which, I have now flown for about three hours low and slow around SoCal. I've been working thru the setup details and the many recommendations for quality and performance - Many THANKS to all who have spent so much time making so many videos - I do appreciate them Several folks have pointed out that mirroring the VR images to the desktop is costly in terms of FPS I have clicked on the STOP PREVIEW in the mixed reality app and that button changes to two vertical lines - BUT the two images (one per eye?) still appear on my desktop along with in the HP goggles. 1) Is mirroring important in the HP G2 world? 2) If so - HOW do I disable mirroring? i7-9700K / 8 GB evga RTX 3060Ti - the 32" 1080p monitor and the G2 are both plugged into display port connectors / I do have OpenXR installed and running as well as SteamVR
  15. Purchased (10.49 Euro) the Taburet Washington & Oregon Powerlines. I lived in that area for 40+ years and did a lot of skiing and bicycle riding under those lines and along the right of ways. I guess I was expecting a little too much realism with this MSFS addon? All I see flying a couple hundred feet above the Tacoma Narrows powerline crossing ( a mile wide with cables at 260' AGL at each pylon) is a series of white marker balls - each about 20' (yes twenty feet) from the previous and the next. In real life the balls are 406' apart over the water and 116' apart over the residential area and invisible (in google earth pro on a 1080p monitor) at a distance of 300-feet. Flying over NW Tacoma (see attached screen shot) the 300KVa powerlines look like a string or white dots suspended in the air. The white dots ruin any sense of immersion one might gain from having detailed power lines. I really cannot complain because the Taburet marketing pictures on the SimMarket website clearly show the ugly white balls extending forever. I just did not look close enough at the marketing stuff.
  16. I guess the new policy here is to not share our experiences and to keep the results of our personal testing secret - I seem to remember a different AVSIM in the past
  17. Suddenly, after dozens of flights over many days, my Assistance settings all revert to EASY - I knew about that so fixed it before I flew Then, when trying to slow down after landing - I found that my control settings for CH Pedals had lost their settings for the toe brakes but retained the settings for rudder inputs. Yes - these problems occurred after using Content Manager! These problems were identified to ZenDesk/Microsoft weeks ago but nothing seems to be done to fix them. Are they resolved in SU7 HotFix beta?
  18. Pilot Handbook says approach at 90 knots with NO flaps and 79 knots with 30° flaps YouTube LiveWire - Scott Perdue has a lot of great videos about flying the Bonanza - he (if I remember correctly) says over the fence at 95 knots in most circumstances He is a retired F-16 pilot and a real fly by the numbers guy. He also does great crash analysis videos for Bonaza incidents And... he teaches aerobatics in the Bonanza
  19. I had a very different experience compared to the comments here when I upgraded my processor, memory, GPU, motherboard (twice). The first mobo upgrade used the same processor as prior to the upgrade. I did nothing to flight sim (on SSD dedicated to just the sim) and Win 10 (on SSD dedicated to Windows and other necessary software). Windows 10 asked for my registration key and Flight Sim did not appear to notice any of my changes. I then accidently trashed the mobo (clumsy fingers when inserting the new processor for the 2nd stage of the upgrade) and had to buy and install a duplicate. Windows 10 asked for my registration key and Flight Sim did not appear to notice any of my changes. I then replaced the processor and again...Windows 10 asked for my registration key and Flight Sim did not appear to notice any of my changes. I've been fooling around with building windows based PCs for decades and have seldom had to do a Windows reinstall after mobo or processor upgrade.
  20. You MUST have a destination file in the Flight Plan - it can be entered manually (while in flight) thru the G1000Nxi screen. No Destination - then No Approach is offered as a selection
  21. C:/Windows/System32/Drivers/etc Edit the host (that is the entire file name and has no extension) and hosts.ics using Notepad - in Notepad you have to tell it to look at all files not just *.txt, which is the default
  22. Did it to me in the middle of a flight - all of sudden ATC was ordering me around, verbally and on the message screen after having turned all that stuff off prior to the flight. Opened up Assistance and found it all set to EASY. I changed back to what I want and now after five more flights totaling six hours my preferred setting remain as I wish.
  23. I thought this very annoying problem was to be resolved in SU7! Is there any hope the sim will ever have a useful flight planner? Yes - I know USE SimBrief which I do - but...
