  1. Bert - I verified I have a 5% dead zone in the yoke X/Y axis and the slope of the response curve is quite flat (also tried with several other shapes) in the middle. I verified that just prior to and during the upset - the signal from the CH yoke fluctuates between 110 and 109 (scale is 0 to 255 - full left to full right). The yoke fluctuates 109 - 110 during all phases of controlled flight, which never seems to be a problem. Test 1 (gentle/slight yoke movement) does NOT cause a wing drop - even when sustained for 10 seconds Test 2 (full left/right yoke deflection) does cause AP breakout. Verified the above with the C172/G1000, G36 stock, RY Turbo G36, and TBM 930 as it comes from Asobo with NO WT G3000 mod. The really interesting result from Test 1 and Test 2 is that the yoke movement in the cockpit is REVERSED when the AP is engaged but the aircraft response is appropriate for the intended yoke movement. e.g - in TBM 930 with AP engaged in NAV/ALT mode - I move the CH Yoke right and the plane rolls right but the cockpit yoke image rolls left.
  2. An update to this problem: When I get the connection lost message - I NEVER see a lost packet or a decline in the rate at which the sim is requesting/receiving tiles from virtualearth.net and BING Graphis is never turned off When I get the message about there being an issue with data streaming - I USUALLY see that the rate at which the sim is requesting/receiving tiles from virtualearth.net does not decline. But about 1 out of 4 times I get the error message the traffic from virtualearth.net decreases by 90% BUT I do see a new tile being requested and received about once every 4 or 5 seconds when flying at 23,000' and 250kts TAS. When I get the message about there being an issue with data streaming - the BING Graphics is turned OFF almost every time but occasionally it is not turned off. IF BING Graphics is turned off - it never gets turned back on by the program - even when flightsim.exe is requesting and receiving BING data (virtualearth.net) at a very high and error free rate. Host.ics contains NO reference to any GoogleMap Replacement URLs. Please help - this is driving me crazy
  3. Verified that host.ics is blank as described in the Google maps replacement text file. I can verify that the TCP connections used by flight Sim are valid for Microsoft and virtualEarth.net and the tiles being received are coming from Microsoft/Bing. When flightsim.exe is running and I am receiving the connection lost message the images I see on the ground continue to be high-quality Bing images. At no time do I see any loss of visual quality. when flightsim.exe is running and I am receiving the connection lost message the images I see on the ground continue to be high-quality Bing images. At no time do I see any loss of visual quality. My main question isWhy is Bing graphics being turned off and not turn back on when the connection is reestablished?
  4. I am constantly receiving a message(s) about "lost connection" and "your connection has an issue" while flying. then I get the green message box saying the connection is reestablished. The problem is that BING DATA WORLD GRAPHICS gets set to OFF on either error message and the reconnect message does not turn the graphics back on. I run several TCP monitors while flying and Proc Mon to trace the network activity in Flight Sim. NONE of that monitoring shows any error or network problem. Every TCP operation is successful. Most importantly - at the moment I receive the lost connection or connection issue problem - I also see the tiles continuing to flow, without interruption from MS to my flight sim. After the error message - I continue to see tiles flowing into the sim. The TCP monitor shows 0% packet loss and the latency is always between 85 and 105ms. Nothing in TCP monitoring or flight sim operations results show any errors. But - Bing Graphics keeps getting turned off. I have prioritized ALL flightsim.exe TCP traffic/operations so there is no chance any other operation/program is slowing them. I have killed every program, including ALL security, to ensure nothing in the PC can interfere with flightsim TCP. This problem just began last week and occurs constantly - my community folder is EMPTY! I do not believe there are any TCP errors but for some reason flightsim.exe is turning off Bing Graphics. Comcast 500 Mb/sec connection that never fails and OOKLA shows as extremely low latency.
  5. Bert asked: "Are you using a button to activate the AP? I wonder if activating the AP via mouse click on the MFD is in any way different than assigning it to a button.." I've tried all iterations of that question - I can find no correlation with how AP is activated/deactivated. Nor does the AP mode seem to make a difference.
  6. I am very careful to allow the plane to fly entirely under the AP control with my hands in my lap and my feet on the floor. During the roll/dive AP appears in the status box and you can see the AP drive the elevator trim to full NoseUp - my only way to regain control is to turn off the AP!
  7. ANY plane with the G1000 Nxi (have not tested other autopilots/control systems) will periodically roll (left or right) and begin a spiral dive towards earth. Watching this occur from outside the plane - there is NO/NONE movement of any control surface which might initiate the roll and dive. In the cockpit - there is no movement of the yoke or pedals. The G1000 display shows the proper course, heading, altitude, VS, FLC - none of that changes during the upset. This maneuver occurs when on a HDG or GPS and sometime APR course, when climbing, descending, or in level flight. Sometimes it does not occur at all during a 2-hour flight, other times it occurs within minutes of starting a flight and then continues to occur at random intervals of five, ten, or maybe 20-minutes. After I recover from the flight upset (the elevator trim goes to 95% NoseUp within 10-seconds) and level the plane out and on the exact course shown by the magenta line and press AP - the roll IMMEDIATELY begins again with no control inputs and no control surface movements. I must hand fly for one to five minutes before the AP will again control the intended flight. I can verify my CH Yoke and Pedals are NOT commanding any input because I run a monitor program showing the constant signal stream from those devices. This happens with nothing in the community file - no mods of any kind! I have verified none of my keys or mice are profiled to command a roll or dive. The roll/dive occurs when I am in cockpit view or outside view and happens when I have not touched the controls for many minutes. This problem began immediately after SU6. It also occurs in the RY Turbo G36 and the DA62X. Any idea what is happening?
  8. PC & STEAM Win 10 I create a new flight plan using World Map and fly the flight after saving the plan. I then close the Sim and restart the Sim - when I load the just created flight plan - the aircraft is on the RECIPROCAL runway compared to how the plan was created and how it appears when I view the plan in NotePad The .flt files contains: [Departure] ICAO=KSAN RunwayNumber=9 RunwayDesignator=NONE The .pln file contains: <Descr>KSAN to KSEE</Descr> <DeparturePosition>9</DeparturePosition> <DepartureName>KSAN</DepartureName> <DestinationName>KSEE</DestinationName> <AppVersion> <AppVersionMajor>11</AppVersionMajor> <AppVersionBuild>282174</AppVersionBuild> and that is how the FIRST flight occurred. But after that first flight - When I load either .pln or .flt (saved before first flight) the nav log/flight plan shows the aircraft positioned on RWY 27 and nothing I do can position the plane on RWY 9. This problem has been occurring on many different airports and flights since the SU6 update This began happening AFTER SU6 was installed I created a MS Support ticket for this problem but my experience is the folks here are quicker and more knowledgeable.
  9. I must be blind, hard headed, or word not allowed! They market addon products that REPLACE their offerings but somehow Bing tiles are different than LVFR KSAN that replaces and IMPROVES the images in San Diego? How can one be so proud of tiles but not so proud of images? They provide and SDK and COMMUNITY folder structure to support modifications and replacements - but now don't want one of those mods to be used? I guess it is beyond my understanding?
  10. That is my question! How does me using Google Maps create a negative impression anymore than me using ORBX KTIW airport,, LVFR Arex, GAIST shipping, or any other addon that IMPOVES the quality of my flight sim experience? Each addon I use REPLACES an object/service provided by the native Flight Sim - SO I am baffled as to the difference when I use Google Maps replacement. MS Flight Sim has always encouraged addons, upgrades, enhancements, better or new services (SDK & Community folder- eh?) so what is different here?
  11. I am currently using Google Maps Replacement and am quite pleased with it. I worked in the software and hardware business full time for 40-years in both marketing, tech support, and software development. I began using MS Flight Sim with the very first edition and have spent a medium sized fortune on upgrades ever since and will continue to support the new Flight Sim in every way possible. I did love to use TileProxy in FSX. Please - can someone tell me: - HOW is this mod any kind of threat to MS/Asobo? There is no loss of revenue when we use the mod. There is a lessening of demand on the Azure servers when we use the mod. - HOW is this mod any kind of threat to Google? The load I place on their server(s) is minuscule compared to when I am using Google Earth to map a mountain bike ride or check on real estate in Location X. - WHY would any of the vendors involved care a whit about my use of Google Map images in place of Bing images? This whole thread seems a tempest in a teapot.
  12. There is nothing wrong with the sign! It is the door that is upside down - it should obviously open the other way
  13. ALL my flying is below 5,000 AGL and below 200 knots. This addon is a huge improvement in the visual quality. I downloaded, unzipped it, tried to run it, downloaded and installed python, started the addon, started the sim and was blown away with the quality of imaging. My total time for first reading about the addon until I saw my first image in my first flight was less than 20-minutes. I can see no reason not to use it - when appropriate. If you don't want to use - then just don't start the program and the sim will act just as it did prior to adding the program. If Microsoft/ASOBO wants to complain/cutoff users who seek an improved experience then MS/Asobo should offer a comparable upgrade. I have been a loyal supporter of every MS flight sim since Meigs Field was a dim set of pixels on a bad CRT - I will remain a loyal supporter and I will continue to spend a lot of money buying sim addons. But this particular FREE addon is a demonstration of the benefits of global community working to improve a commercial offering.
  14. I am obviously wrong about ETE being to destination - I just flew a route with seven waypoints and the G1000 Nxi in the DA62x reset the ETE to 00:00 at each waypoint. However - it displays in the hh.mm format which is not so useful on legs lasting just five minutes or so. I wonder if I am looking at the wrong script/code because the stuff I quoted clearly shows the SimVarValue to include seconds
  15. If I correctly read the code in MFD.js in WTG1000/MFD/MFD.js (0.8.0) as installed by Steam- the ETE is to the next WP (waypoint) ONLY when that WP is the destination. Otherwise ETE is time to destination. In the prior versions of Nxi the previously suggested change to the ETE var was effective but I find the following code in MFD.js and it appears to be entirely different in 0.8.0 /** * Handles when the LNAV Distance to Destination Changes. * @param dis The new distance to destination. */ onLnavDistanceToDestinationChanged(dis) { const eteSeconds = 3600 * dis / this.groundSpeed; SimVar.SetSimVarValue('GPS ETE', SimVarValueType.Seconds, eteSeconds); SimVar.SetSimVarValue('GPS ETA', SimVarValueType.Seconds, eteSeconds + this.zuluTime); } /** * Handles when the LNAV DTK changes. * @param dtk The new DTK. */ onDtkChanged(dtk) { SimVar.SetSimVarValue('GPS WP DESIRED TRACK', SimVarValueType.Radians, UnitType.DEGREE.convertTo(dtk, UnitType.RADIAN)); } /** * Handles when the LNAV XTK changes. * @param xtk The new XTK. */ onXtkChanged(xtk) { SimVar.SetSimVarValue('GPS WP CROSS TRK', SimVarValueType.Meters, UnitType.NMILE.convertTo(xtk, UnitType.METER) * -1); } /** * Handles when the LNAV DIS to WP changes. * @param dis The distance. */ onLnavDistanceChanged(dis) { if (this.isDestinationLegActive.get() && dis < 1000) { this.hasReachedDestination.set(true); } SimVar.SetSimVarValue('GPS WP DISTANCE', SimVarValueType.Meters, dis); const distanceNM = UnitType.METER.convertTo(dis, UnitType.NMILE); const eteSeconds = 3600 * distanceNM / this.groundSpeed; SimVar.SetSimVarValue('GPS WP ETE', SimVarValueType.Seconds, eteSeconds); SimVar.SetSimVarValue('GPS WP ETA', SimVarValueType.Seconds, eteSeconds + this.zuluTime); } /**
  16. ... Balloon Sort! in QuickTran - in my first university programming class
  17. My first programming job was in Manhattan in 1969 - we were converting the BlueCross/BlueShield customer information and billing system from AutoCoder (developed in late '50s) to the more modern COBOL. The job was tedious but we (all recent college graduates, all single, half male, half female) were each provided a high end apartment and generous expense account while living there for six-months. That was my introduction to "for hire" programming and eventually led me to own my own consulting company. 26-years later I was still teaching programmers how to optimize COBOL/VSAM systems and code. My 2nd job was contract FORTRAN programming for NASA at the Goddard Space Flight Center. I loved FORTRAN and later paid my way thru graduate school writing FORTRAN data analysis and statistics packages for my university. I was taking graduate level statistics courses but my professor refused to let me do any of my course work on the computer and insisted I be an expert at using a Marchant mechanical calculator and, with a later upgrade, a WANG programmable statistics machine. As late as 2000 I was still helping COBOL and FORTRAN programmers adjust to the new online world. And, I did program in machine language on five different systems from a DEC PDP/8 to an Interdata/16 all the way up to an IBM/360 which talked to a IBM 7090. My eventual BS in CS was focused on operating systems and performance enhancement. But - in the mid-70's I was convinced PL/1 was the future and I became an expert in that oddity but soon realized no one cared.!
  18. Tried again Wednesday morning and the 16 GB update downloaded, installed, started a flight in less than 30-minutes.
  19. Empty community folder user.cfg is read/write enabled 500 Mb/sec connection Downloaded and decompressed 4.84GB (98% of 4.96 GB) very quickly. At that point I see a message [196/214] - Please Wait and the the installer goes back to 3.77GB and quickly reloads up to 4.84 GB - over and over I stopped the download and then restarted FlightSim - I then see a message ADDITIONAL DISK SPACE / AVAILABLE SPACE -/198.93 GIB and pressing CONTINUE or BROWSE does nothing The SSD dedicated to FlightSim has 198GB free space on it. I cancelled the install and restarted FlightSim and it now CTD while showing the stone wall and parapets I then restart the sim in SAFE mode and and it goes to the installation manager who wants to down load 16.85 GIB (the first series of downloads only tried to download 4.96 GB) Installation manager starts downloading at 102Mb/sec but quick tells me "Connection Lost - Please ensure you have an active internet connection..." I check with OOKLA and as ALWAYS - I have a 500Mb/sec connection. I click OK and get to the installation manager - where I see [1/21] - Please Wait but nothing ever happens Waited a few minutes and tried again - this time I was able to download 324.55MiB / 16.84MiB before the "connection lost" message The message also says Installation Manager will keep trying to reconnect but it never does. I keep running OOKLA and consistently see 450 - 500 Mb/sec with no lost connections I am then stuck - so why do I try now?
  20. In order to gather more data - I takeoff while in an external view watching from aft of the plane on the center line and close enough to see rudder and tail wheel details. I ease in the throttle so that I am at 40" at 50 mph and have no problem keeping the nose and tail aligned with the center of the runway. BUT - when the tail wheel comes off the ground the heading relative to the centerline becomes critical. At that point the throttle has been advanced to 45". IF I have the proper amount of rudder correction and have kept the plane heading straight - it is fairly easy to climb off the runway and fly straight on the runway heading. IF I have allowed any small amount of turning to begin as the tailwheel comes up - the plane snaps left and becomes very difficult to manage. Is it realistic that the small amount of drag which occurs with the tailwheel on the ground is enough to counter all the torque such that misapplication of rudder results in a snap to the left when the tail wheel ground drag diminishes? As I've said - I can manage a pretty smooth takeoff but the consequences of a very small heading deviation at 50 to 60 mph seems quite severe.
  21. I've been a member, and financial supporter of AVSIM and FlightSim for at least 15-years now. I do appreciate what they offer but they have failed to keep up with technology. flightsim.to has a fantastic "update" service that allows me to check the status of my 150+ mods with ONE (1 !!) click of the mouse. If I had downloaded all that stuff from the "heritage" sites - HOW would I keep them all up to date? .to showed their commitment to our community when they added the "SU5 compatibility" box and then disallowed the mods which could not demonstrate that compatibility. I will continue to support other sites but flightsim.to is my go to location for mods. Just now logged into flightsim.to with no delay and my wait for a download was 12-seconds.
  22. The statement above is, in my opinion, the crux of the issue. IF (IF!) I dance the pedals successfully I can takeoff in a somewhat graceful fashion. BUT, once the P-40 nose swings even a degree or two to the left and I stomp hard on the right pedal - the plane just keeps swinging left and is totally out of control. The plane feels like it just instantly gains momentum to the left after a few degrees rotation - and then all is lost and none is recoverable. I can takeoff straight ahead fairly consistently but it does seem very unusual that allowing just a few degrees rotation left results in a crash. Is that realistic?
  23. It is very easy to find out what MSFS does during startup! Just run PROCMON against the sim exe before starting MSFS. You will then get a listing of EVERY single command executed. 820,000 or so lines in the log to get to the World Map screen where we pick our flight. Each line is a command generated by MSFS or the Windows response to a command. 1.4 million lines to get to the Ready To Fly screen. I can assure you the the sim reads, reads again, and re-reads thousands of files over and over again. It is busy loading or verifying all the files it might use. I find no reference in the log to Community files until AFTER the World Map page/process of picking a flight and pressing FLY. And, occasionally, it issues a read (of various types) that require tens of seconds to complete. That anomaly occurs less frequently with the latest updates.
  24. OK - thanks for all the good ideas. I will look into the other threads and possible work arounds. This stuff is fascinating for me because, in a prior life when dinosaurs roamed the computer room, my professional life was thread management (they were called TCB and SRB back then) on multiprocessor and eventually multiple machine configurations. Being an old dinosaur wrangler, I never thought I would be getting into thread management issues after 20-years retirement. Another solution I could use is - find the 20-mod configuration that works, shows all the airports I want, all the planes I fly, and all the scenery I like and then DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING! The problem is you guys keep making such beautiful mods that I can't help adding them to my stable configuration cause they add so much to the sim.
