Sweet fx
I had the same issues. You might try to disable SMAA_ANTIALIASING in your SWEETFX settings file, solved it for me. #define USE_SMAA_ANTIALIASING 0 //[0 or 1] SMAA Anti-aliasing : Smoothens jagged lines using the SMAA technique. Cheers, Andreas

On the REX option tab you might have to specify your fsx folder before you can select any other tab, I had the same problem. Cheers, Andreas

FSX on TV/In Movies
About two years ago I was honoured to create the animations for a four parted TV series at Channel 7 in the Australian TV called Air Emergencies, each of them containing 2 short reports. It has been moderated by the aviation journalist Geoffrey Thomas, and it was dealing with several kinds of air emergencies. It was not easy to satisfy the needs of Geoffrey and the team at Channel 7 and it took a lot of time to finish, but it also was a lot of fun, and I was very proud of being a part of the team. One of those episodes still can be seen at YouTube: Regards, Andreas

FSX and ramdisk
I select my fsx volume, set blocksize to 16, cachesize to 2048, and chaching strategy to read; all other values untouched. Then I start caching and start my fsx. I don't notice a big improvement in frame rate, maybe two or three, but my textures are loading faster, resulting in less blurries.

FSX and ramdisk
You might have a look at FancyCache, which is very easy to configure. Just select the amount of memory to be used and select the volume which should be cached. I'm using it for a month now in combination with FSX, and although it's only a beta, it does exactly what it should do. Using a caching program instead of a ramdisk makes copying of the files dispensable, the utility is doing this for you. You can download a 6 month trial at http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/fancy-cache/index.html Regards, Andreas

Fix for 3D Vision external views look flat
Variometer replied to Florian Schuck's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcHi Florian If you want more depth in your external view not only for your plane but also for the whole landscape you should try to increase the convergence setting of the NVidia driver. You can find or define the appropriate key in the control panel of our graphic card under the advanced key assignments in the 3dvision menu. You need to keep the selected key pressed for some seconds to see the difference, but the effect is awesome. The results can be seen in one of my latest stereo 3d clips using anaglyph or html5 mode in the youtube player. Cheers, Andreas

Megascenery Hawaii - better than flight?
No Hawaii, but the same spirit ;) Sorry, couldn't resist :)Cheers, Andreas

WOW, this is what FLIGHT should look like.
In the mean time I've elaborated the depicted frame rate test into a complete clip ;) Cheers, Andreas

Flight vs Aerofly FS
I'm only posting this because everyone is discussing about AeroflyFS, but no one seems to have tried it out. As English isn’t my native language I want to point out from the beginning that the following sentences are only an attempt to describe my personal impression of this new flight simulator. Due to the given standards of some forum members I’m not in the position to give a well-grounded review, so I won’t even try. I only spent a few hours with this simulation up to now and I’m glad if I can answer some questions about AeroflyFS, but I won’t take part in any discussions about the value of the different flight simulations. You have only one chance of leaving a first impression, and my first reaction after starting this simulation was ‘WHOW’. Extremely short loading times, frame rates of about 50 fps with everything maxed, and great visuals out of the box without having to buy tons of addons even on my moderate system. Of course I tried every available aircraft, and it was a lot fun to feel the speed of the FA18 while flying through the canons of the Swiss Alps, but being a glider pilot in real life I concentrated on the two available sailing planes. There is an option in one of the menus to make the thermals and normal wind flows visible during flight, and it’s very impressive to experience the reactions of the glider on the current wind conditions. Slowing down the glider until it stalls make it tilting to the left or right side and a perfect side slip won't be a problem, if you set the sim to the strongest reality factor. Of course a gliding simulation never will completely real unless you can feel the thermal with your backside, but this one comes very close.I’m missing a lot of things in this simulation, like different times of day, variations of the weather, some AI traffic, and some kind of ‘living world’ etc. But I don’t focus on the things I’m missing, instead I’m enjoying the things AeroflyFs offers, and for the rest I use one of the remaining simulations. AeroflyFs is perfect for practicing your aerobatic skills or improving your gliding experience while trying to finish your planed 300 km triangle flight in your favourite glider with only low thermals and some adverse winds. Try to centre the thermals or take advantage of the ridge upwind considering the wind direction, both are very well depicted based on the given topography of the region; but take care, you’ll also find a strong downwind at the lee side of the ridge, so you always should look for a reasonable landing spot in the inhospitable regions of the Swiss Alps. The guys at IKARUS are claiming to improve and extend the simulation if there is enough interest shown, but if they are clever they should leave the big tubes out and concentrate on making this the perfect simulation for GA flyers. So my final personal conclusion: AeroflyFS will probably never replace any of the mature flight simulations, but it can be a lot fun and it might arouse interest in flight simulation at people who are not willing to spend a little fortune in hardware and software.Regards, Andreas

Flight vs Aerofly FS
Hi,after releasing the first frame rate test in post number 54 of this topic, I just finished a short elaborated clip using aerofly FS. Hope you'll enjoy. Cheers, Andreas

DBS Walk And Follow, So Far, So Bad
You should try fsrecorder. It's free and you can create, save and load 'tower cameras' on the fly without having to reload fsx each time. Simply place your aircraft at the desired location, create a new 'tower camera', and use the 'set to aircraft' option in fsrecorder. If you need more help just let me know. Cheers, Andreas

FSX 3D Vision
Variometer replied to Edward Law's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcHi Edward, I don't own the Acer HN27H right now (it's ordered, but will be delivered in two weeks), but on my Samsung Syncmaster 2233 I can see cockpit view as well as external view in 3D. The effect in the cockpit is much stronger than in the outside view so that you might not notice it, but you can modify the strongness of the effect by changing the convergence value. To change the values you will have to activate the advanced keybord shortcuts in your NVidia control panel in the stereo section. You must assign one key for increasing the convergence and one for decreasing. When you are outside of your plane just increase the convergence value by holding the appropriate key down until you see a definite reaction. It may last some seconds, because the best effects are reached by using very high values. Some times ago I created a stereo video with extreme convergence values, which you can see at http://www.vimeo.com/10067591 if you have a pair of red/cyan glasses. Hope that I could help Regards, Andreas

Autofocus cockpit view
Thanks for the nice comments, much appreciated.OK, here is my enbseries.ini file, which I use during normal flight. For recording videos (not in the current one), sometimes I change some settings in the ini file, depending on the mood and effects I'm trying to show. And As I'm using a 120 Hz monitor, the results might look a bit darker on your monitor than on mine.
