  1. Hmmm...well, at the end of the install your browser should open to the manual page. Perhaps there was a hiccup there?
  2. The product page is now live with pricing details and answers about this product in more detail. We have also found a work around to allow plugins like NOAA to continue to provide wind data while we feed in cloud placement data. With hoping I'm not overstepping boundaries since I did not create this topic, you can find more information here: http://www.x-aviation.com/catalog/product_info.php/real-weather-connector-p-120
  3. X-Plane will handle winds as it always has. RWC's job is to handle cloud type and placement. X-Plane separates wind METAR files from cloud coverage, so no issues here.
  4. A snapshot? It's running in live time! You can see numbers change even as the window is open. Keep in mind not everyone runs their sim in windowed mode, or with their task bar showing.
  5. Or you can just open the SkyMaxx Pro config window and get the same reading there.
  6. You can read the manual located in: X-Plane/resources/plugins/SilerLining That's quite a bit, so it's not that (unless you were flying around somewhere with heavy scenery at the time you saw this effect?). You're welcome!
  7. I noticed this topic previously: http://www.avsim.com/topic/485797-replacement-cloud-textures-whats-available-other-than-skymaxx/ Seems there's some massive memory issues on this aircraft, or SASL is just a hog in some way? I noticed a topic recently on another site which discussed SASL being out of memory on a different product (completely separate of this issue). Laminar dedicates 2GB for LUA/SASL/Gizmo. I don't know all the magic behind the A320, so can't help you as much as I wish I could. If you open the SkyMaxx Pro config window and check the available memory, what does it say?
  8. One thing at a time, Jose. If it were easy everyone would be doing it already.
  9. To be quite clear, this is really a grey area of perception. It's middle ground between a weather injector and an enabler. The truth is, while it doesn't fetch the weather, it does much more of a lot of things you'd expect a weather injector TO DO, and does it better in a lot of areas. Frank put it this way in a post somewhere else: "...we're not bringing XP's default real-world weather functionality to SkyMaxx; we're inventing our own. We're parsing and interpolating raw METAR information, and using it to position cloud formations and storm clouds in ways X-Plane's built-in weather cannot. For example, we can have hundreds of distinct cloud layers in view at once, all at different altitudes - and we offer cloud types like cumulonimbus and towering cumulus that the default engine doesn't have. We didn't replicate what X-Plane's default clouds can do, we went beyond that. I think once folks start to get their hands on it and spread the word, folks will understand why it's a product in its own right. For now, stay tuned while we get through beta testing." We're just leveraging SkyMaxx Pro's clouds because we can. It's definitely no small project, especially considering there are more lines of code in this little add-on than in all of SkyMaxx Pro itself!
  10. Hey, no problem! Thanks for purchasing the other products, Heiko!
  11. Some new screenshots of Real Weather Connector have been posted in the respective forum for the product.
  12. That's an X-Plane or weather injector issue, which is not in the realm of these two products (SkyMaxx Pro 3/Real Weather Connector).
  13. There will definitely be more shots to come as time permits. Keep an eye on that specific section of the forums and we'll post more. I'll see if I can manage the time later today, but no promises.
  14. It seems you are misunderstanding the plugin. Real Weather Connector would facilitate a plugin like ASN, not replace it. Please re-read the product info! Yes, as the product information in the link states, this alleviates the "popping" of weather between METARs.
  15. Interesting thoughts, Andras, but not something I believe will become mainstream. Simply put, SteamOS is meant for Steam gaming. It is not a replacement for a PC, and many flight simmers are a bit more than just gamers (lord knows how much many of us spend on hardware alone). I see SteamOS as redundant and borderline niche/pointless in the grand scheme. If you want a console, buy and Xbox. If you want serious gaming, build a PC. Interesting topic here: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/steamuniverse/discussions/1/458604254466394054/
  16. Jon, In your own words: "Ignore the vitriol, and for heaven's sake, don't contribute to it." Let it go, guys. All that's needed to be said has been said.
  17. One may assume, but my response is merely an attempt to clear the air and bring you "on page". That said, if someone wants to associate Gizmo to XA, that's fair and acceptable. In the end I don't mind so long as you understand the underlying "web." Many people didn't like Steve Jobs either. Notoriously a jackass (even to customers in e-mails). Oh well. You can't please everybody. He knew that, I know that, and I'm sure you know that. Your personality and way of handling things is simply different. As you've said, perception is reality, and that applies even to you. My response to this is the same as above. In the end, the products will do the talking. What you want to debate in-between it all is of little concern to me. I'll respond, and that's all there is to it. I do appreciate you coming in here to give your $0.02 of business sense though. We won't always agree, and that's quite alright! Just so we're very clear, Gizmo (Ben's product), is much more than DRM. I may be Ben's customer for that segment, but many developers (including IXEG and Leading Edge Simulations) depend on Ben's product to create the entire add-on(s) they are working on. Systems, screens, everything. It is NOT a DRM utility in any way, shape or form. Such functionality has been added to it, but it is far from the purpose. Thus, again, Ben does not work "for me".
  18. And awfully far from supporting Linux. Jon, I think I was pretty darned fair in my one and only reply in this thread. Linux becomes a heated discussion out of frustration, both for Ben and I (and many other devs for that matter). I get that people are passionate about their choices and platforms. It's the attitude some of these folks have had over the years that has ultimately built up to a defensive comeback from folks like Ben and even myself. If you really care to understand this better, I think Tom Kyler explains it perfectly well here (sorry for the link to X-Pilot, Tony, but I find it prudent and relevant for this discussion). I think you don't understand the relationship between Ben and X-Aviation. He does not work "for me", and has his own company under the banner of X-Plugins. Technically, developers are customers of him. He creates an extremely powerful platform which is consistently maintained and has allowed developers like IXEG to do things we have not yet seen in X-Plane (but soon will). You may not agree with Ben's brash approach, but he is right in many ways. I can sympathize with his frustrations as someone who's been in the payware market as long as we both have. Sometimes customers just don't see what we do. Linux is one of those instances. This topic hasn't always been hostile, but it's certainly evolved that way. If only you could see all the poo flinging we receive behind the scenes from various Linux users, maybe then would you begin to truly understand. There have been some truly comical yet horrendous words received by a number of these users.
  19. No offense, but if you think there's profit to be made on a segment of a 3% segment of the X-Plane market, you're ill informed and not qualified to make statements like this. Flight Factor may well be developing for the platform (ever occur to you one of their programmers is a Linux user?), but it signifies NOTHING from a profitability standpoint. Ben is very right. There is no market there. Laminar also concurs with this thought, but there's a very key person on the team using Linux, thus support continues. A case of "if he's happy, we're happy." It's sad, really. The truth is we would love to support all three platforms (and have done so in the past). But, the support costs/time over the profit margins (or lack thereof) do not promote this tri-platform support. Linux is a GREAT platform for development. A number of us use it, but in some things you have to face reality and separate personal wants vs business sense. Linux simply doesn't make viable business sense, and if we had to depend on Linux users to buy add-ons in the X-Plane platform, well...we'd be in deep s*&%. Sucks, but that's reality. :(
  20. It's quite possible this is the result of a custom scenery pack with a not perfectly centered navaid placement.
  21. Bruce, It's essentially the same, though perhaps more refined in operation. By this I mean I don't find it so finicky and I can confidently move about the pages in it without thinking something will crash. I wouldn't necessarily call the FMS a deeper simulation than before, but I would say the FEEL of the overall cockpit provides a better experience than before, and for that it's probably worth your hard earned cash if you get any enjoyment at all from the 757 and want to better that experience. It's a no-brainer. Please note, however, that I can be perceived as bias given my position in the X-Plane community and some probably considering this product a "competitor" to me. That said, I do not view it this way. I do enjoy airliners (thank the high heavens they're finally coming to X-Plane), it's the only 767 on the market, I won't be selling it, and anyone with an interest in airliners will likely nab it anyhow; just like me. As simmers we rarely hold back our wallets from coming out for add-ons! Truth be told, I want this product and all others to succeed. The way I see it, the more people that come to X-Plane, the better (for all companies, competitors or not).
