  1. I tried it once and chose to stick with DX9, hence my best system is running XP x64.Many addon aircraft are not able to work with it properly (particularly those that were originally designed for FS2004), and many textures, most noticeably the runways and some buildings, flicker very much.
  2. I know this topic is a bit old, but it sure looked like you had fun. Great photos nonetheless.
  3. A word of warning about the Gateway - don't expect any warranty support whatsoever. The company that services the machines under warranty is bankrupt and won't honor them.http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=50956http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=50660http://www.my3cents.com/showReview.cgi?id=50231
  4. I have noticed as well, it is loading very well these days. Great work AVSIM team.
  5. You would have to buy a new copy of Windows XP for your new build. That machine would probably be all right for FS2004, keep in mind that the graphics card is an onboard chipset though.
  6. I think the way that you have the different categories split up (Aircraft 1, Aircraft 2, Aircraft 3) is a tad confusing.
  7. Apparently to my understanding, the issue with the cloud rendering in FSX with the ATI cards is fixed now, according to the other thread in the Video Cards and Drivers forum. If that is true, would I still need to replace the card? Also, I was told that NVidia is working on a 2GB version on the GTX 285?
  8. I tried the PSU from the other system, and there was no change.I sent the card to MSI for an RMA, but since I now have reports of issues from other 4870x2 cards by different manufacturers having this issue, I too think definitely that it is a driver problem that ATI needs to fix, especially since ATITool reveals that the card itself is fine.To think I abandoned NVidia over an antialiasing problem only to spend $570 on a product that was unusable from day 1. Just my luck...
  9. I definitely want the overkill, but it is deactivated? :(
  10. FSX does in fact have a fuel dump function, however it is rather unrealistic. The fuel jettisons out of the tail of aircraft, and at such a fast rate that not even a minute of dumping depletes the fuel (however I believe the parameter is controllable).I am thinking that the fuel dump switch in the CLS 747 is likely simply a dummy switch.
  11. It would be worth waiting for the 757 from QualityWings, trust me. :(
  12. I mean, the absolute best GeForce 285. What is it?And yes I am considering now.
  13. I never overclock - I keep everything at stock or at the factory overclock. My current situation is that the card is not here right now, it is being RMA'ed because it causes my system to cutoff and restart itself.I spent $570 on that card when I bought it brand new after release. My technology budget is exhausted, since I originally spent $4k on this system. However if I continue to have this issue with the card after I get it back then I will have no choice to buy a new one, as others have reported this problem with other cards of these series manufactured by different companies too. It is too late to get a refund. What is the best card available for FSX?
  14. Well the main thing is that I want to gain as much performance as possible. I like to record videos in FS and I haven't done that in over a year, going on two now, and Fraps is hard hitting. The only AI I use are the WOAI packages, I have all of them installed. Also, I noticed that the ground vehicles have a major impact on performance - as they are highly reflective and the textures are very big. How can I reduce the texture footprint on these?
  15. The problem is an incompatibility with alpha texture transparency that was introduced with the release of FSX SP2/Acceleration.This is why I only use SP1.
  16. I like all of the nice things that FSX has to offer, but the textures of the ground vehicles and jetways and other objects really bog down the system, however I do not want to turn them off.I also want to find a way to reduce the autogen to increase performance without reducing the amount of jetways. How can I do this? I use FSX SP1 (because SP2 has that alpha texture incompatibility issue).Specs:Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition1TB, 150GB, and 300GB Hard DrivesIntel Core i7 Extreme 965 @ 3.2 GHz12GB OCZ DDR3 1333 RAMATI (MSI) Radeon HD 4870x2 OC EditionGigabyte EX58-UD5 MotherboardThermaltake Toughpower 1200 Watt Power Supply(PS: My system doesn't work right now, because of a graphics card issue or maybe the PSU, and I am trying to find what the best card is on the market for FSX.)
  17. Always, Newegg.Unless there is something I need right away, I just go to the local CompUSA.
  18. My problem right now isn't a hard freeze, that was a problem that I had in the past though. PingPong, definitely replace the RAM.My current issue is that the Windows session just cuts off and the system reboots itself.
  19. What about on the ground, and with what AI?I am trying to figure out what to expect with my system (once it eventually works).
  20. What settings are you using and FPS are you typically getting? Also, what antialiasing setting are you using and are you using nHancer?
  21. That is a pretty nice rig.Are you having the cold boot short-circuit issue? That same model of motherboard fried my i7 965 and I had to replace it.
  22. Yes and yes. However it still happens. I don't get a BSOD, it just cuts off and reboots.Once I had a RAM issue causing the same thing. However this time it is something else, now the screen flickers madly before the reboot.Even though ATITool showed no errors, I think the graphics card is malfunctioning. I am replacing it.
