The End of Flight?
EDIT: All of that was pretty hostile to FSX users and I am not going to let it stand. Post another one like this one, and you won't be posting at all.

The End of Flight?
Cool it brought you to real flying. I notice you list your location as Groton. What airport are you learning at. I learned at Mansfield (1B9) which is southeast of you maybe 40 miles or so. I grew up in Attleboro and Mansfield was the nearest airport to home.

The End of Flight?
Lots of companies don't release the code. I would love to see some of the older games like X-Wing updated to newer graphics and play but Lucas has that 15 year old code locked up some where. The reason? They don't want their "brand" tarnished by others that are outside their control. Many companies allow third parties or fans to create strictly regulated add-ons but that's about it. The core code is unknown and untouchable. I do Scifi spaceship add-ons for Orbiter Space Simulator but I limited by the interface given to me. The source code for Orbiter itself is locked up tight and even getting an answer about how something in it works is like pulling teeth. The same goes for many of these games. Used the SDK provided or don't do add-ons. Flight has no SDK and is locked up tight with encryption so no third parties can touch it. The files may look like FSX files but they are not. I know because I tried to extract the airports from the files and non of the common tools worked on the flight files. I also tried to do a simple paint change and got nailed buy the encryption check no longer working. I think Flight is a no go for future add-ons and we will just have to look at it like one of the many one off flight sims like Pro Pilot that have been released over the years without the ability to extend them.

The End of Flight?
Bummer news. I really like Flight for just jumping into the game and fooling around a bit with landing on ice flows or flying through hangars. I'm just pulling this out my back side but........ Alaska seemed a tad unfinished which many attributed to it being rushed out the door. We got a bunch of VC less planes which kind of confused everyone. Maybe that wasn't the plan. It was strange that Alaska got released with a partial cub. Maybe the devs knew for a long time that the project was on the cutting table and did what they could to get what they had out before the plug was pulled. Maybe all the planes were going to have cockpits and they just were not ready yet like the cub was not ready when they released Alaska which was not ready. The deluxe cub could very well be the teams departing gift to the fans. Perhaps there are partially completed cockpits, floats, skis and details for Alaska just sitting on the cutting room floor so to speak.

Well a quick flight, no time tonight because of working on wife's van and other stuff shows me that the deluxe cub is pretty cool. I'll really put it through its paces tomorrow but so far I'm happy.

cant access flight content on new computer
OK, this gets weird. I can log into Xbox Live fine from work. As soon as I tried to log in from home and buy the cub it jumped to a page that said they sent me a code in an email and I needed to enter the code in the box. Well I'm not sure how long it took for the code because the wife asked me to do something that took about a half hour. I entered the code from the email and everything was fine. I purchased, downloaded and installed the cub without a problem. I haven't tried it yet because I wanted to fulfill my task with updating you. My conclusion? Sorry but I don't think we are experiencing the same problem so I doubt I'm of any help.

And traffic. All kinds of traffic like boats, cars and planes. I love flying low and slow looking at the cars on the road in FSX and XPlane even has trains which make it even cooler for us low and slow types.

cant access flight content on new computer
Getting support for any Flight issue is near impossible and when you manage to get someone they are useless. One of the guys I had for my not recognized computer was rude and told me the call was being recorded so I ended up giving him a lengthy rant on professionalism and customer support. When it happen to me there was a button or link to send an activation email to the mail address associated with my account. It took only a few seconds to get the email and there was a code I had to enter into another screen. I may know more tonight. This happen when I purchased the P40 and again when I purchased Alaska. Tonight I plan on purchasing the Cub and if I get the problem again I'll post what I had to do to get it working. This happen after I had to do a complete removal of Flight from my system. When I say complete I mean removing all flight related files and going into the registry to clean it out. Sad part was that Flight wasn't the problem. It was a problem with a new driver for a web cam that was causing Flight to crash and lock up my system.

The big Carbon Cub topic
Great package and pretty much the only plane I fly in FSX. In Hawaii and Alaska believe it or not. Not as happy with the girl. She just seams a little to wimpy and is always to hot and wants the windows open. I don't think she really likes flying and is just humoring me for some reason. I understand your point but I disagree with it as it pertains to my point which I guess I wasn't to clear about. I use advanced age as a defense. I could also point out many freeware add-ons that are quite amazing. So there are a plethora of add on planes that run from free to expensive that equal or exceed the cub offering. Is the Alaska package worth the 30 bucks? Sure and now that I know that the wife's business van will cost only about 700 bucks to fix I will most likely buy the cub when it becomes available on Xbox Live. That said I still believe that many including myself look at this as an upgrade to an existing plane that costs as much as a deluxe plane which is why I perceive it as too expensive. Is it really? Maybe not compared to what I've spent on other planes or even the 15 bucks I spend each month to play the online Star Wars game or to go to a movie which just for the misses and I is about 50 bucks after she buys her popcorn, candy and frozen drink.

Didn't you get a pop-up saying something about them sending an email? That has happen twice to me and both time I was offered an email option. It was all automated and I was sent an email which had a code in it. All I had to do was enter the code and all was fine.

What came with Hawaii? Wasn't it the RV? So it was 20 bucks for the area plus a deluxe plane. I think that the big issue here, at least for me is that they released Alaska for less then Hawaii and with a "half" plane. IMO the better choice would have been to wait on Alaska and include the deluxe cub for 30 bucks or not release the "half" cub with it. It's all about perception and right now many of us are feeling that we are not buying a deluxe plane but rather a patch or up grade to a previously released one that came with something already purchased. What will the future hold? An advanced Maule with a nice GPS or auto pilot for another 15 bucks because it's a "new" deluxe plane? Maybe another 15 bucks for floats on the cub. Such methods of release and pricing makes me feel like they are nickle and dimeing me to death with upgrades. I'm sure I will break down and eventually buy the cub because I like the plane but I may wait for another Steam sale or some other package deal before I do.

Same here. I expected around $10.00 for it but I'm having a problem seeing the worth of upgrading because I already have the Maule if I want to play with instruments. Can't say I'm not disappointed. For $15.00 I really had expected a float version and perhaps a ski version. I understand that a float version would have changed the flight model but a ski version would have almost been a "give me" with only having to model the skis and not having to change anything. My wife's business van broke down yesterday and she had to cancel all her appointments until it's fixed so I'm short of play money until I find out the monetary damage from loss of business as well as repairs. So for me this week is an over priced, IMO, plane or half a tank of gas for my car.

Tomorrow's the day...
I expect they don't want continuity because if they have that people will start wanting big iron to fly from Seattle to Anchorage etc. From what we have seen of the cockpits I would bet that any big iron will not have the desired avionics, nor the ATC people will want with such aircraft. I expect that they will offer something quite far from the current locations and with lots of coastline. Maybe England or if they are sticking with the USA maybe Florida. So far we have mostly VFR, GA planes with limited NAV capabilities and limited areas that cannot be flown between. That's how I figure it. I've had loads of fun with the cub and I'm tired of looking at that static panel and having to reset the eye point because I stupidly reset after panning around.

Adding missing airports to the "Plan G" flight-planner
How about this option. Name the flight data base the same as the FS9 database. That way it will not affect the FSX data and will only be a problem for the people using Flight and FS9 which I'm assuming is far fewer than those using FSX and Flight. Then they can choose which one to use in Plan-G.

Dynamic contrast anyone?
I have a Samsung BX2231 monitor so I decided to give Magic Tune a shot this morning. Completely trashed my start-up. It took me a few tries in safe mode and 30mins to get the little bugger cleaned out. The strange part was that when I allowed the installer to restart the system it came up as having not been properly shutdown. I think it was a corrupted install because of the restart that caused the problem. I have 64bit Win7 but, I used the proper version of the program. Who knows what really happen? Maybe the Shadow knows. I sure don't. Seems pricy. I bought a 22 inch Samsung BX2231 LED back light monitor about a year ago for $139 US. It was on sale but regular price was $149 so it wasn't that much cheaper. My only complaint with it is that it's too low and doesn't tilt which requires my to have it on top of a couple metal tins to get a comfortable view point. What I'm toying with now is the possibility of getting a 37 inch HDTV to use for a monitor and use the 22 inch as a secondary display. I just have concerns with the motion blur using a TV rather than a monitor.

Carbon Cub to be released on July 25th
I agree but I love the cub. I've had more fun with than any other plane. My wish was that the Alaska would have a VC plane with a float version but as we know that didn't happen. Now I was hoping for the VC cub to include a float version but I suspect that's not going to happen. The Next area DLC is going to have to sweeten the pot a bit more than Alaska if I'm going to buy any more but I got a feeling that isn't going to happen either.

Adding missing airports to the "Plan G" flight-planner
CZST is in Canada so I'm not sure Flight would have had it anyway. We can't add airports to Flight so it would most likely be best to remove them from Plan-G. On the other hand I guess we could just consider some of these missing ones as remote and undeveloped strips. Still, you will not be able to select them in Flight.

TSA approves 25 illegal aliens to train at flight school owned by another illegal alien.
Well I guess I can answer my own question now. It apparently was at Minute Man Air Field (6B6) in Stow MA. It's privately owned and operated with two runways. A 2,770 ft asphalt one and a 1,600 dirt one. Mostly single engine GA stuff from what it looks like on Google Maps and not very many of them. It's been around 42 years and the last time I flew I was 20 or so which was 37 years ago so it was a fairly new airport then but I never flew into. I mostly stayed outside of 495 so that I didn't have to worry about the Boston TCA. As an interesting aside one of the training service companies operating out of there is a flight simulator based one called Magenta Flight Training. To be polite their web site really stinks so I wasn't able to find out very much about them other then they exist. The only other training available is Noble Air which operates two C172s. I was not able to find out which company was involved in this little problem. I didn't know that one was asked to prove legal status in the country in order to get GA flight training but I guess that is not required. Has anyone that has gotten recent flight training been asked to prove legal status?

Northern Exposure
Being a weirdo obsessive at times, I searched the net and eventually found the pictures of Maggie working on her plane. It is in my opinion very definitely a C 170B with a red and silver paint job. For whatever filming reasons they used at least two different planes. The N4423V which was 1948 vintage and the N8326A which was 1952 vintage. There may have also been another one used for the fiddling with the engine scenes.

Hi all, Well, the title is what's all over the news today. They just say that it's a Boston area flight school but I can't find which one. As a MA resident that trained, (over 30 years ago), at and flew from many of the airports in MA I'd be interested in knowing which airport was involved. Anyone know?

Cub Deluxe almost on sale.
Mine is a 16gig Nook Tablet running Albert's SD root which allowed me to keep the Nook stuff intact which I wanted because I like the book reader on it better than the nook book reader app.

Cub Deluxe almost on sale.
That's my hope. Well not for you to have it but rather me on my rooted Nook Tablet. I've already used it with the free FSX moving map and it's nice to have more than one display. I also have an iPad at work that just sits in my desk draw doing nothing but, I just know if I took it home and spent money getting an app that my employer would want it back to give to some management lackey. It goes without saying that I use lackey with the utmost respect for our gallant, wonderful and most excellent management team. Do they release stuff on Wednesdays?

Oh, I see. Now I feel silly because my eyes never went that high. Yes, she does have nice red hair.
