July 20, 201213 yr So as usual the last wednesday of the month... Although MS is keeping their word, this is a bit of a letdown because the Cub was already released with Alaska and this only is a VC upgrade. I was hoping we'd get a VC upgrade seperately from the usual monthly plane. Then again... better only a VC then another VC-less plane. I also wonder if we only get to buy the VC or the complete plane. And if we only get to buy the VC if that means that people who want this plane HAVE to buy Alaska too. I am betting on a complete plane for a price similar to the Maule. https://news.microso...carbon-cub.aspx : "This classic plane just got even better with the addition of a full virtual cockpit! The deluxe Carbon Cub will be available 7/25/12." Funny how such a news announcement always leaves more questions then it gives answers. One thing I DO know: it would have been a lot better if MS had released Alaska without a plane at all and simply kept the complete Carbon Cub for coming wednesday. That would have saved us a lot of 'trouble'.

Based on the other thread if I or many of us would have said this same thing some would be all down our throats... I agree it would have been nice for them to finish what was already in the Alaska pack and then release another bird for July 'Keeping with their planned schedule' many here are being sticklers about... So if I got this right we're missing some content somewhere. Help me out if I'm wrong... July 20, 201213 yr So if I got this right we're missing some content somewhere. Help me out if I'm wrong... Well, you've got a point there. Which is the same point I was making. I think that after the release of Alaska most people expected a complete other and new plane at the end of July. They really should have left that Cub out of the Alaska pack. Still... MS is on schedule so... no worries there yet. Concerning "some would be all down our throats": that had more to do with how things were said. Again, I think 99,9% of the people here will agree when I say that a plane needs to have a VC and that the Cub should have had one right away... and that we should have gotten us a Beaver or Goose or whatever animal coming wednesday.

July 20, 201213 yr Based on the other thread if I or many of us would have said this same thing some would be all down our throats... Oh, get off your high-horse. You can't take an antagonistic extremist position and then make everyone who doesn't agree with it 100% out be an extremist of the opposite position... and then blame them for the "tone" of the thread. Had you simply stated your thoughts on the matter in a civil manner, respectful to all parties in involved, to open a discussion, you would have found a lot of agreement. A lot of it.
July 20, 201213 yr Not something I'll be looking to add to the hangar. I've mentioned before that it would be better for Alaska not to include something I didn't want to fly, so as to exclude the expense of the plane. And I don't calculate a BASIC plane as being part of the package cost. So even though a month's DLC release is putting a VC into the Cub, it's not for me. I could hope that August's DLC might be something to interest me, but I'd only be kidding myself. Same for September. Maybe October will bring a region of interest and a plane that makes me want to buy it. I'm sorry to say that I am not one of the subscribers to the thought of buying anything with a VC, so as to encourage Microsoft to keep making deluxe planes.
July 20, 201213 yr Nope, I don't think that announcement from Microsoft was terse enough. Surely they could have communicated in their usual way and simply grunted meaningfully..... Do they have a communications department at all over there, or is it somebody from the mail room? What an exciting statement: The dog food will be deposited on your porch in a plain brown package on the 25th; please be available, as a mandatory gratuity for the delivery may be necessary. :lol: We are all connected..... July 20, 201213 yr Well, this is good news. Nice to have a firm date after the plane was posted then mysteriously yanked from the site. As a casual sim flyer, I'm still learning to love VCs and do a lot of flying outside the plane. (Please don't ban me!) So, as an Alaska and "toy" Cub owner my purchase decision will probably come down to whether or not they offer a discounted VC upgrade price or if they're going to try to sell me the same plane twice for full price. It might have been a different story if they released it during the Steam Summer Sale, but I'll definitely have to think twice about a purchase if they're considering this a whole new stand-alone plane costing $14.99, especially since all of Alaska and the cockpit-less Cub were that price. That would mean the entire region of Alaska is valued the same as a VC upgrade only. Depending on how they release it, I may wait for the next bundle, a sale or a completely new Deluxe model plane before buying.

July 20, 201213 yr Oh look! It's being released on THE LAST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH! This is RIGHT ON SCHEDULE! *Hook gets some popcorn to watch a few people eat crow. Want some salt? But think about it a bit. This is the first time they've had both a basic and a deluxe version of the same aircraft. The number of people purchasing the deluxe version will be an interesting indicator of how important cockpits are to people. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! July 20, 201213 yr But think about it a bit. This is the first time they've had both a basic and a deluxe version of the same aircraft. The number of people purchasing the deluxe version will be an interesting indicator of how important cockpits are to people. I would say that it won't be a true indicator. One month they need to release two versions of the same aircraft. One with a VC, one without. Release them together, because if they are spread out even by a month the numbers will skew towards the first one released. Have them priced as they will be going forward, versus "upgrade pricing" (if that's what happens here). Only then can you get an accurate picture of how important cockpits are to people, especially those who do not post online what they want.
July 20, 201213 yr One month they need to release two versions of the same aircraft. I agree completely, but it's still a very interesting test. Most people will already have the basic Carbon Cub. The people who buy the deluxe version will either be those who really want cockpits, and those who buy everything just to be complete. Even if you did the test you mention, they'd still want to do this one. Hook Larry Hookins Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of EarthAnd danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;

The people who buy the deluxe version will either be those who really want cockpits, and those who buy everything just to be complete. Even if you did the test you mention, they'd still want to do this one. They can identify the population of "completionists" simply by looking at their other purchases. But the numbers of people who would buy the cockpit-Cub will be impacted somewhat by it already being in their hangar without a cockpit... they may not actually use the non-cockpit version, because it doesn't have a cockpit, but they may balk at buying "the same plane again" to get the cockpit. This will be an interesting test, but not the true scientific test we've been asking for since Day 1. The only way to find the actual VC/non-VC prefence factor is to release both versions as stand-alone purchases on the same day.
July 20, 201213 yr Well I'm pretty damned happy. I'm going to the cottage this weekend for a ride in my friend's Cessna Skywagon.... I just bought (please don't laugh) Wings of Prey from Steam cause it's only 5$, and I wanna shoot some guns.... and THEN....next wednesday.....I get the deluxe Cub. I'm all smiles, I gotta tell ya
