  1. I beg to differ, the measurement unit of anything has nothing to do with precision of that measurement. They are totally different issues. One can have a tolerance of 0.2 mm which is the same as 0.0002 m. Same precision, different units.
  2. That's right. This could be an expensive hobby, when you add them all up. But, the PMDG MD-11 is well worth the $80, the best airliner simulation for FSX so far. Also, let's keep in mind, a FS addon is not a high volume seller like your whatever PS3 game, so that justifies the price by itself in my opinion..
  3. It looks like the engine startup is composed of two files, PMDGMD11_START_R and PMDGMD11_START_R2 (R probably stands for Right, as there are L and C files). My issue is with the transition between the two files, which probably happens as soon as you turn on the fuel switch.I noticed that if I turn on the fuel flow as soon as I have rising oil pressure (10%N2 or so) the transition is smoother with no interruption as opposed to around 22-23%N2 as I was doing it before..
  4. Hi,Question: is any of you experience engine startup soundissues? … More precisely, after opening the valve, the engine starts spoolingup but when I turn on the fuel switch, there is a short (1 sec) stutter/interruptionin the spool up sound. It happens when starting all three engines, both PW andGE. I ignored this thinking it’s not a big deal (which really isn’t, don’t get me wrong) until Iwatched Chris Palmer’s AOA videos and there’s no problem there…Could this be a Creative driver issue (I have the X-fi gamercard)Thanks all,Stefan Ticusan
  5. RC should be able to handle the comms just fine, I think Ctrl-Shift-K is the key combination to hand over, you can look it up in the documentation as well..Stefan Ticusan
  6. Thanks Ryan, good explanation. So it looks like turbo boost is just shifting available resources between cores within the same amount of maximum allowed dissipated power. The only way to push the limit up is with OC and a good cooler.
  7. Hi All,On the same note as the original poster, wouldn't turbo-boost which is standard with the new i5 and i7 achieve close results to OC? Personally i have an i5-750 at stock frequency of 2.6, I can see short spikes to 3.2 while in game, but most of the time, just stays put at 2.6I understand a constant clock of 3.4GHz gets more things done in the same time but still, what is your opinion on turbo boost? The only issues I have with OC is noise, I prefer the sound of a turbofan instead of a PC fan :)Thanks and Happy Holidays to allStefan Ticusan
  8. Thank you Dan, I'll look into this again, I had this issue a while back.Love the xenon :)
  9. Peter,I had the same problem with landing lights and REX2, I ended up unchecking the landing lights update in REX2 config. Are you suggesting I can keep my xeon REX2 lights but uncheck the "landing light illuminate the ground" in FSX instead?ThanksStefan Ticusan
  10. I think the story goes that, when the papacy was moved for a short while in France at Avignon in the middle ages, the king of France at that time (Phillip the 4th?) closed the cardinals in the church and told them not to come out until they produce a new pope. The signal was to be white smoke from the chimneyI might be wrong, but that's what i remember.
  11. Dan,Do you know how this would work with Ezdok? ..ThanksStefan Ticusan
  12. Changing the process priority to anything other than normal is asking for trouble...I would not use that tool or change the priority via task manager.Stefan Ticusan
  13. Exactly! I took CS757 for a short flight after a long brake, I just couldn't put up with all the little idiosyncrasies of that package, drove me nuts :)In my opinion, MD-11 is the best airliner add-on on the market by a far in all aspects, period. PMDG has set a very high standard, it's a pleasure to fly it. It shows the talent and the dedication of the team!
  14. I have a 8800GT, not quite the newest or best thing around but I'm happy with the performance. I will upgrade eventually the whole $#!@ thing but in stages :)I use a mac as my main PC, so this is a "FSX only" machine so I'm trying to "justify" the expense by spreading it out :)
  15. Steven,That's right, I factored that in. I plan to keep the HD and the video card. Will go for new mobo, 4GB DDR3 memory and one of the i5'sStefan Ticusan
  16. Thank you all for your replies, probably the 750 will be the choice. Do you know when the 32nm quad cores will come up?
  17. Hi,I am planning to upgrade my PC form a core 2 duo to a core i5. The question is, for roughly 200USD I could get a core i5-661 or an i5-750, one dual core, other quad. I like the 661 default clock speed and lower power usage, and I'm not sure that a 5 year old app like FSX will efficiently use 4 cores, even with SP2 and acceleration. I might be wrong on this one though. Also, planning to turn off hyper-threading in either case, from my experience with enterprise applications at least, that's not going to help much. Any advice from fellow simmers?...Thanks allStefan Ticusan
  18. Somebody posted a link in their forums for the updater, check out this topic:http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/forum/ind...hp?topic=7621.0looks like it works. You might want to try the support channel though..
  19. That's right, I had the same issue. The executable you get is version 1, you need to download an update to version 2, I have no idea why they do that. Once updated to version 2, you can apply the last SPStefan Ticusan
  20. Dan,Do you have the most recent service pack? http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/forum/ind...hp?topic=5091.0I find the interface hard to use and unintuitive as well but I have no problems with the real weather update. The last SP made the weather downloads much faster. I cannot however change the update frequency, I don't even know if there is such a feature. For the original poster, I don't see a significant frame rate hit by using REX on my dual core 3GHz/4GB DDR2 RAMStefan Ticusan
  21. Ryan,You can check the event logs(Right click computer -> manage) and open the windows application log. It should tell you more specifically what caused the crash.Stefan Ticusan
  22. All,I know this is not PMDG related, hope the moderators will allow. Just wanted to make you aware of this site, a great resource regarding flight theory and much more.Be prepared for a lengthy and very informative read..http://www.av8n.com/how/Stefan Ticusan
  23. Very interesting thread!I am 41, currently live in NJ just north of KEWR but born and raised in Bucharest RO. I'm an an electrical engineer by education, but now work in IS/IT as a db/sys admi. My other hobby, other than armchair pilot of course, is to is to scratch build ship models. My current project which I'm working on and off for almost 4 years now is a 6+ feet model of a Soviet frigate from the keel up, cool stuff :)
  24. I used to have the same problem, blue screen when switching to an exterior view from VC. Almost all the time. I tried all I can think of in terms of drivers, could not get it to work without a windows re-install. That's on WIndows 7 x64 and fsx Stefan
  25. Mother Russia right now :)Parked at Irkutsk, next stop Petropavlovsk
