  1. Forgive the dumb query, but where to install the Direct X? My last down load file asked me where. I presume that was the wrong file and it should be a double click to install. Got a new file today (id'd the file as an application -"dxwebsetup"). Hope this is the correct one. I also get a second flag pop up after the first FS2AUDIO failed to load error which state "No Audio Device". I presume that will also go away with the updated Direct X properly loaded.
  2. My error. Sorry should have been more specific. Do they require internet connection for both download and CD versions of the product. My PMDG 747-400 (FS9) is CD and direct install without internet connection requirements. I can see the internet connection requirement for a download. I lost some (download) product when Brand "X" went away so I try to buy CD where possible, which is probably one of the reasons why I stay with FS9. All the later stuff seems to be download only anymore.
  3. Presume it was a download product to begin with and not a CD install requiring an internet connection to install? Does PMDG require internet connection for install? I agree, always back up. I had a similar problem with another product, had the backup but still no install. If you buy the extended download, is that sort of "cloud" backup.....its there as long as PMDG exists. DM2 KLAX
  4. Did the PSS Dash 8 Panel merge with the Q400 found elsewhere on this forum. Had to play with the lights and a few other tweaks but works pretty good. My biggest gripe is no side views. Apparently they are buried in the VC of the Q300. Are there any out there or any suggestions as to creating the side views or digging them out of the VC portion? Thanks DM2 KLAX
  5. My current system is an Intel E8500 Processor and a GTX650Ti Boost video card. No overclocking yet but that is planned. FS9 user. I currently have the B747-400 and it seems to run pretty well on my system. FPS limits set @ 25 and with some add on scenery and mid level traffic, I still seem to hold 23-24. I am thinking about getting the MD-11 and was wondering if anyone has both and can offer any comments about the system performance (FPS) with it versus the 747. Any input would be appreciated. 6. Just a general query; If the software is the only change, when moving from XP to Win7 can I move my overclocking settings over as is or would I be better off just to start new in Win7?
  7. When I bought the DC-3 way back (2002) it was CD. Same for BT a few years back. Now I see that only the TBM is available on CD. Does that mean I need an internet connection etc to install the DC-3 if I bought the FS9 version?
  8. Amazon gives a cross reference saying the Retail is not available for Win7 but the OEM 64 Bit SP1 for new install is on resale PC's is. Forgive the dumb question but since this is basically for a new build PC for sale, is the install protocol the same where I need to call/go on line to activate it? In other words, its not going to require some magic the PC shop has locally (tribal knowledge) to do for this software to run. Amateur me, I figure to stick the disc into the drive and it loads and runs............or not.
  9. My current OS is XP Home (on a E8500 and GTX650Ti) and I pretty much stay with the FS9 world. I am still on the fence on going to Win7 as my home PC is primarily for flight sim only. I can use my work PC (OS Win7) for any web surfing, like now, if necessary. Outside of the security issues with web surfing with XP, are there any real benefits (like increase performance) by moving over to the Win7 OS for flight sim?
  10. Since the "full package" isn't available, that leaves me hunting for the OEM version. I am trying to find out how to tell if the package is a complete / fresh install Win 7/64 CD versus just an upgrade for the already installed XP or a Win 7 Service Pak. The pricing is all over the place and the titles/description is not all that informative.
  11. I read that the retail package for Win7 stopped shipping last year. I have XP and want to move over to Win7. I figured it would be a good time as I am installing a new HD. My primary use of the PC is Flight Sims and related web browsing. The title on display at the various web-stores is always saying OEM. I want to get Win7 Home Premium 64 Bit, but the variations of the title out there is confusing. I can buy a new build PC from my friendly vendor with Win7, but I want to keep my current E8500 and GTX650Ti and just overclock the puppy. All I want at the moment is the software changeover. Any help would be appreciated?
  12. Use the Virtual Flight Engineer....takes care of everything. Makes life a whole lot easier. Need to turn it on by the selector at the top of the set of 4 toggles on the left side of the Captains Panel.
  13. I am currently on windows XP with an Intel Core2Duo E8500, 2x2GB memory and a GE Force 9800GT Video Card. Due to my new build PC, I will be going with an Intel i7 3770 and GE Force GTX650TI. I am still on the fence about the move from Window XP to 7 (or 8). I understand about the pending sunset of XP support but this PC is game (FS9) only. Another PC handles the real world chores. How does the 747-400 (or any other addon) handle the move to Windows 7? Any suggestions or ideas to make the transition without blowing a gasket?
  14. I got a good one. In the electronic display HSI all I get are hyroglyfics instead of the normal numbers etc? I presume it may be a missing font file, but nothing I saw in the documentation lists anything specific?Anyone else had this problem?
  15. For some reason, using the +/- key to zoom in/out does not work now. Don't have a clue why, probably gremlins as some other wierd things have happened.I have looked through the assignments pages and tried a few things, but cannot seem to find a key assignment to get the function back. Tried all the obvious wordings etc to no avail. I presume that there is some way to get the function back short of a reload.I usually use the zoom in the external view to check out the details of the operation of the surfaces but have also used it inside to adjust the panel view.Any help?
  16. The only manual was the the little puny printed one noted above that came in the box. The only support document that loaded with the B777 was the weather radar users guide. For now, I am presuming the B777 and B757 share a similar FMC so I am using the B757 guide.
  17. Is there a full sized PSS manual for the B777? I have something from smartcockpits.com thats good for real world systems, but it isnt keyed to the sim. I have one in the B757 (8-1/2x11 and printable), but can only find the little puny print one that came in the box for the B777. These old eyes would appreciate any leads to a full sized one.
  18. I seem to remember my previous stick (HOTAS Cougar) the V1.25 the flaps worked fine. My current stick is a Saitek. Thats the reason I gave up on the V1.30 etc and went to the V1.25. The read me says the standard FS function keys are set up, but they dont work and my current stick is set up for the flaps and work on the other a/c installed.
  19. Given my problem with the V1.30 lot, decided to go back to the V1.25 / 26 and give that a try. It actually loaded without problem. My biggest glitch is that the read-me gives that the flaps have several different options to operate them. I was happy to see that the standard F keys for incremental flap operation are available. That is how my stick is set up, yet when I try to operate them, flaps move out a bit then retracts again. I am pretty sure the hydraulics (engine and elect driven) were on. What would be the affect of dropping the V1.30 panels and gauges into the V1.25? Thought I would give that a try just to see what would happen. Havent had any luck with the V1.30.......
  20. Sorry for the delay but here is the actual error message;"Flight Simulator was unable to load some aircraft or software. You can continue using FS but this aircraft or software will be disabled. FILE: AIRCRAFT\fsfsconv\panel.b732ADV\B732ADV.GAU." The gauge file is in the fsfsconv\panel file per install instructions. Thought maybe move it out to the main FS gauges file, but that didnt appear to work so its back in the fsfsconv file. Also, tried playing with the caps as the panel calls out the file in caps and the gauge name is in lower case. No good so put it back the way it was. I have the cfg edit for "OLD MODULES FSSound.dll=1" for another aircraft I have loaded. Is it possible there is a conflict with this in the .cfg and not requiring this particular file anymore for the V1.30?
  21. I installed all three (V1.30 / 31 / 32) presuming that the fix may be in one of those updates. The error message refers to not being able to load something and it addresses the specific gauge located in the 737 adv file in the fsfsconv folder. That is interesting about the FSSound.dll requirement, based on this from the user documents "Beginning with version 1.30, FSSound.dll is no longer needed or used." I am not sure if it is there, but check on that to verify if it is.
  22. I have tried to install these and get an error messege concerning the gauge "not usable will not be installed etc". As far as I can tell the file is in the correct location per the install procedures. Is there some tribal knowlege about .cfg changes not in the procedures? I used to have all the old style use old etc .cfg changes but have recently reinstalled the sim. I do have an up to date REGISTERED version of the FSUIPC thingy.
  23. Sorry about the extra entry above. Hit the wrong button I guess. Not having this particular DC-8 sim, and presuming it is close to real, I can just give you general advice. The first thing you have to remember is the DC-8 is a child of the late Fifties and early Sixties. She generally does not have any of the fancy FMC / Auto-Throttle equipment you find on the L1011 or DC-10. You have to almost "fly" the autopilot. Its not just a case of select one thing, because you have to ballance everthing and make sometimes several different adjustments to the autopilot and/or throttles to get the results you want. Some of the modern ones will do a default vertical rate when changing altitude and then adjust the throttles to maintain a previously set airspeed. This lady will not do that.Pitch/Trim hold is either through the elevator trim button on the yoke or setting the Vertical Speed wheel to the desired vertical speed. Which by the way is also adjusted through the Mach or Airspeed hold - the left hand rotary selector on the AP. This adjusts pitch/vertical speed to maintain the selected speed. But, there is no selectable airspeed where you dial in an airspeed and the autopilot or auto throttle takes care of things for you. Altitude Hold is basically just keeping the Vertical Speed wheel centered. The altitude acquisition is not selectable, you fly to within about 500 feet of your desired altitude and start reducing vertical speed to try to smoothly acquire the desired altitude. Then as I said above, keep the Vertical Speed wheel centered.Hope this helps.
