  1. Very interrested in hearing your opinion on the A2A one. C.
  2. Blown out of the water was a little bit exaggerated obviously. The only thing GmapHD was missing was rubberband flight planning and Plates. GmapHD was my go to tablet app for a long time. I seriously tthink Naviator is priced way too low for what it is. When it comes to dedicated FS apps, you guys are still the kings. C.
  3. I forwarded this to some other blog sites as well. I think this developer deserves some business for having spent the time to integrate this Aviation tool with FSX/P3D. His core business is Aviation and the simullation integration was added so pilots could practice using the app sitting at their desk instead of burning $75/hr Avgas in their real plane trying to learn it. Products like this and RXP GNS 530 and F1 GTN 750 are expanding the bridge between Real aviation and Simulation like never in the history of this hobby. Foreflight integration to the simulator cost well over $100 and this product does it for free! And the product is $15?! Are you kidding me? Charles.
  4. But sadly you end up without up to date Navdata in P3D without it and no WAAS capability or LPV approaches. If IFR is not your thing, then it probably is not a big deal. C.
  5. Ever wished that Skyvector www.skyvector.com (with all it's plates, charts and weather) would talk to P3D and FSX? Ya I always thought that would be cool. One option I looked at was Foreflight for ipad. It's a real aviation app (Electronic Flight Bag) but it's only available on ipad which would be fine but it is HUNDREDS of dollars initially and hundreds a year to subscribe for the charts and plates. https://www.foreflight.com/pricing/ Andriod apps are up and commers in General Aviation. Here is a good article on this. http://www.flyingmag.com/avionics-gear/pilot-supplies/android-aviation-apps-cockpit?page=0,1 Like the article states... A good one is NAVIATOR and it has been in development for years and continues chasing Foreflight as the far less expensive alternative. I think it's like $14 and $5 a month for all charts and plates. You can even use it without the subscription. You just won's have the IFR and VFR chart moving maps and plates. You will be flying over google maps. But the airports and other navdata are inlaid still as a basemap. It has a 30 day free trial by the way. SIMULATOR INTEGRATION: But the better news is they added simconnect option for FSX and P3Dv2.0 and I tested it last night in both platforms and it works flawless. If you have an andriod tablet or phone? You will want to check this out. In the settings within the app, you enable simulator mode and BOOM you are getting GPS data across your wireless FSX or P3D via simconnect. ANOTHER NEAT FEATURE I just found was flight tracking. It keeps a 3D Google Earth compatible track you can export and play back to analyze your flight. http://www.naviatorapp.com/naviatordetails.aspx By the way... I also own FSWidgets GMap and this literally blows it out of the water as it has many more features as it is a real world electronic Flight Bag/moving map. It also has Synthetic View, rubber band flight planning and you can also pan and zoom the map while plane continues to track across the map. The HUD is customizable so you can select what to display in the four corners. Altitude. Speed. Distance or ETA to next waypoint. Very cool. Although all Navdata, waypoints and Google Map base layer (I'm sure it's google) is worldwide! 53000 airports! However, pre-loaded Approach Plates and sectionals are only for North America though and the approach plates themselves are generally for the USA, Alaska and Hawaii included. If you want Canadian plates, you can use Fltplan.com Charles.
  6. I really hope they go with the GTN750 option in this PC-12. http://www.aviation.ruag.com/fileadmin/ruag/BusinessAviation/PDFs/Fact_Sheets/FS_PC12_Dual_GTN750.pdf http://forum.avsim.net/page/index.html/_/reviews/review-gtn-650-750-avionics-r2357 http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=f1gtn I own the P3D v2.0 version of the GTN750 and I love it. If they do a decent job of this plane and have this avionics package, we would be in heaven. C.
  7. I thought the 1900 was not too bad. What was wrong in the current release? Anything beyond a few lights that don't come on when they should? C.
  8. Glad I had not been smoking something when I called BS on the VAS and VRAM connection. C.
  9. After a few patches the B200 was pretty well done. PC12 does not need to be PMDG quality. But at least Real Air or A2A would be nice. But I know Carenado do not have additional external code like A2A. Systems do not need to be super deep. Do an earlier model with GNS530 and you would be fairly deep from an avionics standpoint provided the do the rest of the avionics well. But ya. Then it's patch city until they get the rest of the switches and dials doing what they are supposed to or get gauges to react to engine management changes and things like that. C.
  10. If you want DX10 mode FSX you have to go nVidia. True. DX9 works flawless and smooth as glass on ATI though. But I understand people might want the cockpit shadows (the only real difference I was ever able to detect) P3Dv2.0 is DX11 and also works with ATI. But fps is no where near as good as DX9 regardless of having either ATI or nVidia. Don't get me wrong. I am also in the camp of ticked off ATI users when it comes to FSX DX10. I know this broke in a driver last year and I know that our tiny community is not asking ATI to fix it or they would have. Our hobby is too obscure to make them simply care that DX10 "Preview" does not work with their drivers. Ah well. If the GTX780's price tag was not retarded, I would have bought one. FSX should NOT need a $500 card. Period. And buying a $350 equivalent to replace my 7970GHZ (the GTX770) so I can have cockpit shadows is also stupid when everything else works perfectly as advertised. And ATI? Thanks for the price fixing. Your $300 R9 290 is still $450. Rip off city. Charles. If ATI users would like AMD to fix this they should make it known to AMD. I have a few times but 1 user reporting this will get ignored. http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D25AD12B25 Want change? Make it. C.
  11. One of my top planes of all time is the PC12. Carenado (See their upcoming projects) better knock this out of the park or it is the last plane I buy from them. The PC12 - Please Carenado. Take your time. Do this right! Charles.
  12. If you go into Task Manager, how many cores are displayed? I am curious. As Bert pointed out you said you use "AffinityMask=84" which tells P3D to use 8 cores but you said "I have 4 cores and HT off" which is essentially like an i5. I am not saying your not getting the result you say you are. I am wondering though is HT really off because later you come back and say HT to AUTO in your BIOS which means the BIOS is deciding based on other parameters if HT is better on or off every time you boot. So if you could check Task Manager and report how many cores are displayed, then it will be interesting to try and figure out how Affinity 84 would even work. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/427301-affinity-mask-setting/?p=2863029 C.
  13. Perhaps licensing Garmin is more expensive when provided for P3D and they are trying to maintain the same profit margin on both platforms? Do you actually believe they arbitrarily inflated the price just because? Since Autogen and lighting have spoilt me on P3D I cannot go back to FSX and now that almost all my ORBX scenery is triple installer enabled to work with P3D v 2.2 and many of my planes, this was the last piece. Navdata and approaches that are close to what we have now so I can practice in a more current air system than 2006. C.
  14. #1. Ya you have to add them yourself. #2. I don't know the answer. Is that eyefinity? I know with three screens the edges of the outsside monitor will stretch. ... He is using a zoom of 1.0 and wideview aspect=true setting but the deal is that at 1.0 zoom you have less stretching on the edges. #3. This will be the same question regardless of card brand and you might want to research that. I only have a single screen. In the video I posted above... Is he doing kind of what you are looking for?
  15. Thanks for Chiming in. Pilots with time in type are worth their weight in gold around here. Appreciated. C.
  16. Well on a mid range Laptop, PMDG with payware scenery is really tough. Almost nothing you can do about it except drop all your sliders to the far left as much as you can stand. That CPU and video card are pretty weak as far as FSX is concerned. Even people with overclocked $1200 quadcore desktops with high end RAM and $400 video cards struggle to maintain good 30 locked fps with that plane at that kind of airport with the eyecandy cranked and clouds in the sky. FSX is a heavy sonofa_______ even today. C.
  17. If anyone wants the Graphical Corruption issues in DX10 Preview mode in FSX, they need to actually report the issue. I just tried a flight in the new BETA 14.3 drivers and when water is set to medium or high to get the reflections, you will have corruption in 5 minutes or less. Steve Parson also confirmed this as well. He discovered this issue only arose since the introduction of driver 13.x and later and is with us to this day. Even with water on x2 low, it will happen eventually on longer trips. Please report this to AMD to have it addressed in the current driver cycle. If no one reports it, we will get what you can expect. No change. http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D25AD12B69 Here's hoping. Sticking with DX9 until this gets resolved. PS - this was also an issue in X-Plane 10 and was fixed in the current BETA because users complained. Charles.
  18. Correct. Pre 13 drivers work. Confirmed by Steve. Sadly I need latest drivers for other games too. P3Dv2 initial tests seem ok though. Waititng ona few more patches before I make it my full time platform though. And honestly, DX9 with BP=0 is everything DX10 is.only missing cockpit shadows. Everything else is identical in DX9. C.
  19. I sit here jealous of the 290X owners with my HD 7970. I am also ticked off that the release price of the 290 of $399 was never realised. They are $500 everywhere and I notice the GTX 780 price went back up. Can you say"Price Fixing"? Sure. I knew you could. Common AMD. Force those damn vendors to set the right price for this stuff. Charles.
  20. Basically set things as per this guide but do not use higher than 4xAA (but Super Sample enabled in driver of course) and pull some of you scenery sliders for Scenery Complexity and Aut0gen density back a tick. Your CPU is impressive except not so much in FSX land. FSX like all the GHZ you can muster. People with i7 and i5 Quad core spend alot of time overclocking to get thier CPU's over 4.4 Ghz. as they come at a default in the 3.2 - 3.4 range. FSX almost directly scales with CPU Ghz. Not sure you would want to even look at overclocking yours. And even those that do struggle to keep fps at 30 locked all the time even with the beefiest of systems so don't use fps as a measure. Shoor for "as smooth as you can make it". Your video card might be in Crossfire mode and I do not think that works well with FSX? Might want to disable CF if it's enabled. Not sure how you do that. Here are some benchmarks for your setup. The R9 280X (single card) you see in the charts is the same as a HD 7970. http://www.anandtech.com/show/7603/mac-pro-review-late-2013/10 Charles.
  21. I thought you bought a GTX780? Anyway. Ya that would be cool. Not sure they will fix it. They did fix the DX9 CTD The 13.11 BETA or whatever that was when we asked. Maybe well get lucky here as well. Charles.
  22. Sorry but it is. However it's not specifically Steve's water shader. The spikes will still happen with the DX10 default Shader as well so it is not FSX's fault with or without the shader. FSX's water shader and the current 13.X driver sets don't get along. Not the first time a driver broke something in a game or app regardless of brand. So as for this spikes in the scenery problem, it would have to be fixed in the driver. Which is why I am recomending reporting it to AMD. I work with Steve and I was a BETA tester for the Fixer and still talk to Steve. He is really focused on fixing things when he can. The other night Steve brought his older AMD rig out and tested the 12.4 driver his card came with (I have tried this older gen driver as well) and no spikes. Install latest 13.12 driver and spikes came very quick. Go back to 12.4 and no spikes regardless of water setting. I have been testing DX10 mode since 13.1 driver and have been having spikes since it's release even before FIXER came out. Steven and I have concluded that the issue showed up in the newer drivers. It's that simple. If people want to have more than one hardware manufacturer's option, it's worth it for current AMD owners to report it. Otherwise FSX DX10 remains an nVidia game. And to people that don't like AMD video cards. I don't care either way. I am just trying to help those that like or own them. AMD does not need this little niche community to stay in business. They have XBOX, XBOX1 and Playstation 4 now. In the discrete video card business, AMD has been providing inexpensive alternatives and keeping nVidia prices in check for fans of the green team (which I have been more than not). I like options and I like owning both brands. Thier drivers (outside of FSX DX10 mode) have been on par with nVidia for years and have gone from about 15% market share to close to 40% in the last few years. We are lucky they stay in the fight. Otherwise our precious GTX780 would still be $650. Come to think of it, we might not even have a 780 yet. C.
  23. The last big bug for AMD with FSX was solved in a driver release. Maybe we can get this one fixed as well. I have submitted a bug report to AMD. The more people that submit the faster this might get fixed. It's easy... Go here... http://www.amdsurveys.com/se.ashx?s=5A1E27D25AD12B4F And submit an issue report. In Describe the Issue and Steps to Replicate... You could copy and paste all of this to save yourself some time. ""PRELUDE: FSX can be run in DX9 and DX10 mode. In both cases there is a setting for water. 1xlow med or high. 1x is 1 pass shader. 2xlow, med and high. 2X is for 2 pass shader to provide reflection. NOTE: issue is tested by several users and is repeatable. Issue did not happen in driver version 12.4 With the release of the DX10 Fixer http://airdailyx.blogspot.ca/2013/09/steves-dx10sceneryfixer-released.html The developer of FSX DX10 Fixer tool has sold thousands of copies in 3 months and still selling. FSX users are moving to DX10 in droves. PROBLEM....Running FSX in DX10 has become the new standard for a huge chunk of the flightsim community. For AMD users, there is a bug concerning water shader at water settings above 2xLOW in game menu. If water is set to higher than 2xLOW (To get additional reflections on water surface) in FSX settings when running FSX in DX10 mode, you get huge corrupt scenery spikes in minutes. Alot of AMD customers are moving to nVidia and taking other AMD customers with them. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/422802-serious-issue-with-ati-and-steves-dx10-fix-tears-and-spikes-everywhere/ The dev tested this issue. Steven discovered that it is truly linked to the water setting. It is immediately repeatable. It does NOT occur on driver version 12.4 But any 13.X drivers it does. Thank you and I hope it can be solved in a new driver soon."" Also if you want to raise awareness in the AMD support forum... I started a post as well here... http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=443&threadid=171092&enterthread=y Reply to that thread indicating that you would like to see this fixed. Marc@AMD helped us last time. Maybe they will again. Especially when the new R9 290 for $400 matches the GTX780. Would be a nice option for people in FSX. http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/asus_radeon_r9_290_directcuii_oc_review,1.html
