  1. THIS IS NOT A DRILL! THIS IS IT FOLKS, EVEN SOONER THAN FRIDAY! It's going live at 20.00Z! From aamir's discord announcement just now : @everyone at 2000Z tonight we're going to make our A320 available for purchase at fenixsim.com. It's fair to say there are hummingbirds with lower heart rates than our team right now. We've received advice from PayPal to hold off on accepting PayPal payments for a couple of days, but every other payment option (Cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay, etc) will be available at launch. We'll do our very best to make the next 24hrs go as smoothly as possible, just please bear with us if something doesn't quite go to plan! In the words of one of our devs, Dave - time to boot it -Aamir
  2. I think we're going to have her just in time for the weekend folks! I'm counting down the hours now, should be less than 48 😂
  3. What a refreshing transparent attitude... Chances are every other high fidelity addon has much worse compromises than the slightly off fuel burn and they would never tell you and you would never know. These guys tell you in advance and are already adding the new engine model after the release anyway... @Aamir@Aamir you guys deserve the incoming success every bit and more, and I hope this is only the beginning of a long line of products that you bring to MSFS...
  4. Please @Aamir make my Monday by releasing it today as a surprise! One can only hope...
  5. That video with the analog instrument caging... I really am struggling to tell if it is from a real A/C or not. Hand on heart, without context, someone watching it for the first time would be 50/50 to tell if it is real or from a simulator! The smoothness of the oscillation, the clicking noises it makes as it passes through straight and level, the amazing textures and light... I am just floored... I think I might not even fly the word not allowed thing when it comes out, just take close up pictures like this for my desktop wallpaper...
  6. Oh boy the expectations are skyrocketing for Fenix, even for stuff out of their control 🤣 Fingers crossed we will all be flying her on day one without issues, but I'm not going to bash other devs just because the shop they work with didn't perform for one day! And let's be honest here, we are possibly looking at them breaking every sales record for a detailed FS addon ever, so it might end up having issues on a weird combination of pc components and addons that they haven't tested yet. Let's all relax and see how launch day goes.
  7. Don't remind me of that joke of addon that I bought day one... It was the first "high fidelity" airliner for ages in MSFS and I don't even have an interest in CRJ... And they just ported over all the P3D issues and then abandoned it. I can't believe I paid full price for that and that Fenix is almost as much...
  8. May I say something not stressed here enough about Fenix: It's very refreshing to see someone so down to earth, pricing absolutely reasonably and making sure it performs well with older hardware (at least that was shown during development). There is a cost of living crisis that we all feel, and not all of us are retired in Florida driving around in Corvettes. I for one sure appreciate that I will be able to hold on to my 7700k and 1080ti a little longer if it performs like the pmdg, at a time when new graphics cards require a small mortgage (even at msrp) and a power station to keep them running.
  9. I welcome our airbus overlords. Day 1 buy for me (if the servers hold). P. S. With the whole humble and down to earth approach, I think Fenix will break all sales records of any sim, any platform. Question is, how prepared are they for the deluge of orders, authentication etc during purchase as well as the incoming storm of support requests from tens of thousands of new customers within hours. Let's see 😊
  10. Agreed, but just to be clear : did you try the experimental version with all the bells and whistles? I'm not saying the FBW is the most complete by the way, we are all aware there plenty of stuff that is work in progress before it's anywhere near version 1.0. The main reason for my post was to make sure people are aware the FBW is more than a pretty face with nice EFB and sounds. It has all that and the depth under the skin, with the obvious caveat there's a lot more to do still. Engine systems modelling, pneumatics and pressurisation, new external model, autopilot modes to be finished etc. In short, when Fenix comes along it will have all that from day 1 as a payware, but the FBW will eventually catch up and why not surpass it.
  11. I think you're confused between FBW (the flybywire opensource project and FSL FlightSimLabs payware bus). I am talking about the FBW one which was mentioned a few posts above. FSL is a different story and yes, years away probably.
  12. It's funny there's people talking about how nice the efb and simbrief is on FBW and that the "fancy hydraulics and pump mechanics" will be on Fenix. The irony is these are already there on the FBW as they are modelling insane amounts of detail on the pumps and hydraulics, and even the weight and aerodynamic drag of the control surfaces. These are insane levels of detail that nothing until now has, payware or otherwise, but all together is what makes the FBW feel authentic and satisfying to fly. Just move the controls around, and see how the pressure drops when you only have the electric pump running with engines off, and hear it struggle and change in pitch as it's trying to build the pressure back up and tell me you don't feel you're in control of something real instead of a preprogrammed game that will do the same thing every time regardless. So yeah, fancy pumps and hydraulics? FBW team already have those together with all the nice efb and sounds. So Fenix will have to do a hell of a job to surpass this.
  13. Amazing results and amazing report Benjamin, this is conclusive for me to go for the 5800X3D now instead of waiting for a new platform later down the line. Thank you for your testing!
  14. Thank you for the advice. I am aware AM4 is almost dead, but then is it worth going for Alder Lake which is a brand new platform just for this? If I have learnt anything from Intel (having been burnt a few times) is buying with upgrade paths in mind 3 years down the line is that you will need a new motherboard anyway... The only thing I have managed to keep between upgrades is the RAM and actually with AM5 only supporting DDR5 I will have to throw away 32 GB worth of corsair dominator sticks @3200 for new and high latency DDR5 ram that will be improved down the line. Going with AM4 now, I get a cpu that I will keep for at least 3 years, and only upgrade the Gpu (currently a 1080Ti) early next year when rtx3000 has become legacy and cheaper or the 4000 series widely available together with ATx v3 psu 's... TLDR: I intend to keep the motherboard and cpu for at least 3 years and have to wait for improved DDR5 ram, new ATx v3 power supplies etc etc. So it will be a whole lot more waiting. So even if it is a dead end, going with AM4 now is also very cheap as I will be keeping the Ram as well... Then again if the new one is 100% faster I will feel like an word not allowed.
  15. So, this or a 12700K for MSFS? I would be coming from a 7700K overclocked to an inch of its life to keep up so it would be a new platform for me either way.
  16. If anyone has this chip and can post their experience here I am eagerly following as I am on the fence for upgrading my ageing 7700K with either this or the 12700K... The youtube tests are not good enough as they are not focusing on stuff the more experienced simmers do like a sim full of addons, more than just a landing challenge etc.
  17. Interesting that Leonardo are releasing just 4 days after Sim Update 9. I guess they have tested with the beta and do not expect any issues? In any case, I am happy the really cool stuff is now finally coming into MSFS as well.
  18. It's been noted a few times that CPU tests in games are done in low resolutions on purpose to put all the weight on the CPU and not the GPU - which would be the case in higher resolutions. At 4K all the CPUs at the top of the scale are normally the same as the GPU becomes the bottleneck. You can only tell which CPU is best by eliminating that bottleneck. I am on the fence to upgrade my 7700K to either a 12700K or a 5800X3D and I am still unsure which one to go for. I will be going into a new platform anyway, and I am aware the AM4 is dead, but if I keep the new one for another 5 years like I did with the 7700K then it is a moot point anyway. I was looking at 5900X which is going down drastically in price but if it is beaten in MSFS by the 5800X3D then I can stretch to that price point (cannot justify the cost or cooling requirements for the 12900K). Eagerly watching this topic from other X3D buyers to decide 🙂
  19. I am sure it will eventually be among the top birds for MSFS, regardless of a/c type. The question is how long it will take to get there post-release.
  20. With regards to the WASM vs the FBW approach, could it be that WASM is needed for Xbox compatibility? The FBW team have made it clear they're only interested in maximum realism and not Xbox or marketplace sales so it might be the reason why they are innovating the way they are... If that is the case then teams that will be focused on PC will have the advantage, like Fenix or the Maddog...
  21. Anyone else got a weird super-rigid feeling for the wingflex animations on the Chewy stream or is it just me?
  22. Unfortunately it seems that the MCP buttons light up like slow burning incandescent lamps which is what the default A/C do... I can't believe they put all this work and could not work around this limitation... Even the CRJ from Aerosoft has that correctly shown with lights blinking like LEDs, I don't get why PMDG stuck with default lights... Maybe for XBox compatibility? Disappointing from such a high profile release if nothing else 😞
  23. Thank you for the suggestions. I didn't do either, and it just worked on its own so I'm not touching anything now 🙂 Only thing that is borked which I guess the FBW team know about is the new pushback menu. Really going into next level quality now the FBW, not just payware quality, but the best among the payware up there with FSLabs, PMDG etc.
  24. Yes, since the last experimental I can't even load a flight, CTD right after loading. More worryingly, even switching to development does not seem to fix it all of a sudden, it hangs and loads indefinitely. I will wait for the next build with fingers crossed 😬 This is the first time I had a major issue with either branch, they are normally rock solid.
  25. Maybe a bit off topic, but if this is what they can do with a Cessna 310, I wonder how good that ATR is going to be... Bye bye majestic Dash 8, off for retirement you go.
