  1. I was getting horrible stutters at night, until I added a proper affinity mask to my p3d and enabled v sync with triple buffering (not sure if vsync did anything, the key was affinity mask). My sim went from stuttering every 3-5 seconds to buttery smooth. Dynamic landing and runway turnoff lights make my fps go from 40+ to 20 or so, but the sim is still smooth and stutter free. I also recommend project lasso to help with thread scheduling. I can run with fps unlimited by the way, and don't have to lock it. regards
  2. Yes, for my friend with the same graphics card model as I have, it works great. I tried the sweetfx and reshade link I posted above on a laptop with fsx, and it didn't work when the gauge was named dxgi.dll (same crash as desktop). However, when I renamed it to d3d9.dll, it began to work on the laptop. On the desktop, as soon as I get to the fsx preview screen, it says loading effect (I can see sweetfx working), but I immediately then get a CTD (laptop stays running). I suspect my antivirus might have something to do with it, as it injects a dll into running processes. But, other than that I have closed any other process which I believe tries to create an overlay.
  3. I've tried the latest reshade as can be found on their website, but with it my sim doesn't even start. It closes immediately during the splash screen.
  4. I am trying to install this: https://reshade.me/sweetfx#download But, when I start fsx se, it shows a white screen instead of the home screen. When I then select the fly now page, all I get a is a black screen, and the game crashes. If I rename the dll to d3d9.dll instead of dxgi.dll, it temporarily shows the aircraft preview screen when I press fly now, and I see the effects working (says loading effect). However, after like one second, fsx again crashes. I have a friend that installed the same things, and it works for him. I use nvidia inspector, but disabling it doesn't help. I use dx 10, but using dx9 doesn't help either. Any ideas?
  5. The NGX and 777 are just as immersive as the just released Queen (barring some of the nice improvements in the queen), so I would think it would be an update and not a completely new product like when we got the ngx over the old ng. However, if they are completely new products, my credit card is waiting.
  6. Will we be getting the FCTM with this amazing bird? No big deal if we aren't, but I want to make sure it isn't a bug like with the introduction manuals not being clickable from the ops center.
  7. Awesome, thanks for the reply Paul. Tim, yes, it is only the preview. The simulation is a beauty in fsx. Just took her up for a circuit at LFPG, and my jaw dropped.
  8. I must say The Queen is amazing. Just a couple of issues I have noticed, and was wondering if anyone is seeing them as well, otherwise I'll reinstall: 1) The nose never appears in the fsx aircraft preview screen. It just shows the back of the airplane, but the nose section is missing (the inside of the cabin is visible). 2) I can't click on the tutorial nor the introduction manuals from the ops center (have to manually find these files in windows explorer). Anybody else seeing these small glitches, or is my install bad?
  9. Eagerly awaiting the 747. Any chance to see improvements roll back to the ngx?
  10. I fixed the problem. Rebuilt the shaders one more time, and reinstalled the original fsx shaders. I then installed Steve's freeware DX 10 patch, v 3.2.3 I found on avsim. no idea if the new patch fixed the issue or if simply my previous v 3.2.2 had been corrupted from changing graphics cards. I think my previous shaders were simply corrupt because as soon as I restored to the original shaders (before installing the latest shader patch), everything started working.
  11. I have Steve's modified shader files installed (the files he released freely before releasing the payed fixer), and I get black squares instead of buttons in Aerosoft's a320 v.1.31 (see attachment). What is strange is that the a318, a319, and a321 work perfectly fine, and I've seen others on Youtube flying the a320 in DX 10 without problems. I have already asked on Aerosoft's forum, and have not gotten a response so I am asking the wider audience of avsim for help. I have tried reinstalling, cleaning registry and every folder/file I could find with Aerosoft in the name, rebuilding shader cache, downgrading to an old Nvidia driver, and nothing helps. Just before I purchased the Aerosoft A320 bundle around 3 days ago, I switched from a 460 SE to a 960 video card, as my 460 broke. However, I've deleted extra video card references in FSX.cfg, started with a fresh fsx.cfg, and nothing helps. I was wondering if anyone knew of something I could copy from the a318, a319, or a321 in order to fix this as I primarily bought this for the a320 and I can't go back to dx 9 after experiencing the smoothness and stability of dx 10. 12. Thanks, that is what I used to think. However, I got a bit confused with threads like this: http://www.avsim.com/topic/373830-videomemoryoverride-does-it-really-work/ and http://www.avsim.com/topic/353625-why-is-a-3gb-graphics-card-not-good-for-fsx/page-2#entry2160874 However, those threads were a couple of years ago, when cards usually had lower VRAM than now, so I think I will take your word for it unless someone has a different opinion.
  13. Is it still advisable to get a low VRAM video card for FSX to not exhaust VAS? I use DX 10 preview mode, and I'm planning to get a 4GB GTX 960 as my 460 SE broke. I've read the problem is only a DX 9 thing, but I want to make sure I won't face the same issue since the FSX DX 10 preview is only a preview. Also, does the VideoMemoryOverride option work, and will I need to use it? I found a thread from 2011 that came to inconclusive results regarding the utility of this switch. I've never had OOM issues with my current setup, and I will get a lower VRAM card if 4 GB will cause me OOM's in FSX (it's the main game I play).
  14. Do you have asn (active sky next)? It makes it pretty challenging when there's bad weather.
  15. So, the taxi camera inside will be a P3D only feature? I might just have to jump on the P3D train... Thanks for the update Robert.
  16. I've been mentally preparing myself for the day I visit Avsim, and the sad news is announced; I just never expected it to be so soon. Rest in peace, Tom. I will keep you and your family in my prayers, and know that you've touched a lot of lives.
  17. Yeah I agree with you. Let's hope they don't find that, and if they do, that they don't blow it out of proportion.
  18. Tom, I couldn't be more shocked after seeing your announcement on the front page. Without you and this site, I would have never expanded my simming hobby as I did. You will never be fully gone from this world, as your memory will always live on. I'll keep you in my prayers, and I hope your final days are the best they can be. Thank you for everything you've done for the simming community.
  19. Okay, thanks for the reassurance. I could have sworn that this had been fixed, but I guess this will be an sp2 thing.
  20. Forgive me if it's been asked, but did the minimums and altimeter dials get the spring loaded manner of movement like in the 777? In mine it hasn't been fixed, so I am wondering if my install went wrong (I did a repair install).
  21. I think you guys should wait until an official announcement is made; they're still probably setting stuff up.
  22. All this excitement and and the over analyzing of each and every word coming from RSR's posts reminds me of the night the ngx was released. Just goes to show how good this sim is that there's still this much excitement after all this time.
  23. Those lights are amazing, what are they?
