  1. What exactly happened before/how do you recreate it? I just flew over the equator and didn't notice any issues. In third person A/D sort of just walk your Avatar in that direction. In first person, A/D strafes left/right. Q/E act as your rotation to face your character at a different heading. It's not the most natural feeling in the world, but I'd say it's better than nothing. I suspect they'll improve it over time. I did suggest some usability improvements, but they never really commented on them. I do like what you suggested about the middle mouse button toggling the mouse. In regards to the sun glare, unfortunately, there is no replacement effect - just the standard lens flare from FSX/P3Dv1/2. I also suggested a sun glare of some sort, but as well, this was never commented on. I haven't tested it yet, but hopefully the lens flare renders over the VC model now, as a sort of pseudo sun glare could be made this way. There's no real major visual updates in this version. SpeedTree implementation should be quite cool (I've not installed the build with it yet), though it will be up to developers to utilize them. From what I've seen, it looks like it'll require an update, but I couldn't give a firm answer. This is only based on comments I've read from other testers. Yes. There are a couple different first person views to choose from: - First Person: standard camera at eye level with the model, no headbob, 3D model visible - First Person (Attached): camera locked to the head of the 3D model, camera shakes around with the head - First Person (No Model): same as "First Person," but with no 3D model. I don't normally have AI traffic on and am not familiar with how the lights looked in v2, so I couldn't comment on this.
  2. Ctrl+Shift+E switches you in to Avatar mode and places your human model directly next to your aircraft. From here, you use the standard WASD to walk, C to crouch, R to run, and F to jump. The mouse, unfortunately, does not aim you in the direction that you want to walk, but I suspect that this is to let the mouse be free for clicking of aircraft parts in the future when developers implement walk arounds, etc. Current aircraft have a different 3D model than Avatar. I imagine that developers may start releasing Avatar packs or including their own that match their addons. I'm not sure if you can associate a specific one with a specific aircraft, though. This was one of my annoyances with v2. I just checked and it still remains in v3. I hadn't remembered that it was an issue until you mentioned it. I've made note of it on the beta forum.
  3. Hmmm, you've got me wondering. I don't normally have AI traffic on, so I'm not actually sure. Off to test this! Edit: Yes! Also, I guess the electrical message from my previous screenshot referred to the airplane itself, not the Avatar.
  4. Yes, it is always this color. Here's a couple random screenshots I've taken during my time in the beta that I feel really show how beautiful this sim can be: http://imgur.com/a/N5fDm
  5. Since I have been given the go-ahead, here's a screenshot of the ATC menu in v3: I was in Avatar mode, which is why there was no eletric system.
  6. Someone on the beta testing forum asked if we are allowed to share screenshots and stuff yet and I've yet to see a reply from LM. If they give the go-ahead, I'll post a screenshot. I think it looks quite nice.
  7. Beau says that it wouldn't come with a point release (a minor update). Version 3 would not be considered a point release. So, it's always possible. We shall see.
  8. Why the secrecy? I'm pretty sure he's referring to a user by the name of FS-Tester over at FSDeveloper (which is a public forum) who is converting the Beechcraft Baron from FSX to Flight. http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/conversion-questions-using-the-flight-toolkit.434521/ Some screenshots and info can be found throughout the thread linked above.
  9. I'd suggest reading through the article again. From the title: "64-Bit Modeling Tools Released." Modeling tools and simulator are not the same thing. The modeling tools are used by developers to export and compile aircraft models. 64 bit means that we can compile higher poly models without running into limitations during compilation. To put it simply, Prepar3D has not been and currently is not a 64 bit simulator. As well, 64 bit has not been officially announced for any future versions as of yet.
  10. Why make new technology available on an older OS when you're trying to sell a new OS? They'd almost be silly to put DX12 on Windows 7. Car companies might as well start offering replacement engines every couple of years at no charge so that you can continue to use your current car with better efficiency. Besides, us developers want users to move forward so we can do more, right? I take it you've not really been following the XBox One that much? Essentially: Windows 10 will become its primary OS Mouse and Keyboard support is coming The XBox is on its way to becoming a piece of hardware more than its own platform. There's no doubt developers will eventually want to take advantage of DX12's abilities, especially for games that may run on the XBox. This will likely help push DX12 along.
  11. Media also has a tendency to scare users over non-issues to get more clicks and views.
  12. So the Settings app with hundreds of categorized settings is hidden, too?
  13. The below quote is a comment someone wrote on this article and is probably the most true/accurate statement you can find regarding this "privacy issue" (that really isn't a big deal). Er, well, I guess it's only a big deal because it's Microsoft, right? They're mean and scary people that can only ever want to harm us and take advantage of us. Apple and Google can have all of our information because they're nice people! I think it's gotten to the point in the software world that, if something isn't actually wrong, people look for something that they think is wrong. If there's no drama after the release of a product, what's to enjoy about it? We live in a digital age where products and services need to know your usage habits to improve the user experience and provide you with relevant information. The same is true with not just Windows, but iOS and Android (which have been doing the same for years). Finally, this post is not directed at any one person, but rather anyone who is worried that their security is compromised.
  14. FSX and ESP 1.0 were nearly the same code base. Flight had some FSX/ESP elements, but was sort of a spin-off engine from the unreleased Train Simulator 2. Flight's engine was very good and very stable, as quite a few of us who continued to use it found out. I'd say GTA is equally as complex, but in a different way. It's not just *another* shooter. The details and environmental events blow FSX out of the water. That said, it's still not a round earth simulation. Still a very capable and powerful engine.
  15. I don't think Lockheed Martin is going to come out with two completely new versions of Prepar3D in the next year. As well, the DTG press release specifically says that FS2016 (being released next year) is coming to Windows 10, which is a PC operating system.
  16. Couldn't have said it better myself, especially on the topic of the technology. Times are changing. Computers are capable of so much more. Microsoft Flight's actually really powerful engine was a step in the right direction, and it seems that Dovetail will be utilizing it. There's really no downside regardless of what it ends up being. If it ends up being a true game with no true system functionality, it gets new people interested in aviation and eventually gets them interested in our hobby (more simmers = more reasons for developers to continue to support our community). If it ends up being essentially FSX-level in function and has mod support/a SimConnect equivalent (Fallout 4 will actually support mods on the XBox One), it's another platform that us simmers have the choice to move to. In the end, your copy of FSX/P3D/X-Plane/etc will remain untouched and you don't have to do anything with FS2016 if you don't want to.
  17. Just like all versions of DirectX, DX12 available for applications to use it if they are coded to do so. FSX and FS9 won't ever touch it because they're coded to use DX9 (and FSX to use DX10 if the user selects it). That said, I'm wondering what the issue is that you are having. I haven't had any issues with FSX in DX9 or DX10 for months now and I've not seen anyone reporting that it doesn't work.
  18. It's not about fixing, it's about innovating and moving forward. By the logic of not fixing, we should all still be running Windows 95.
  19. Why disallow turning off updates? Some updates are important - particularly security updates. The flight tracking software I work on for FSX doesn't allow the user to skip updates, as we used to have way too many tickets regarding issues that were resolved MONTHS ago. While not as applicable to something like Windows, it could be another reason that they don't want you to turn them off. Have you used it? New start menu, Cortana integration, same OS on desktop/phone/tablet/etc, compatibility of desktop/Universal Apps on all of those devices, notifications center, completely new settings menu, virtual/multiple desktops. Not HUGE changes, but fairly notable changes. It's about the separation from the past and showing that it's its intended lifespan/update style is to be much different.
  20. It's a simply awesome demonstration and a really nice video to compliment it. Whether or not all new airliners can do this doesn't change the fact that you don't see this very often. . The one tunnelcat linked to is shortened and uploaded by another channel.
  21. For what it's worth, this is a Preview (ie. unfinished). The Settings app barely had anything in its beginning (5 or so months ago). Over time, they've implemented quite a lot of the functionality of Control Panel. I suspect they are either going to completely recreate most, if not all Control Panel options in the Settings App and remove Control Panel, or just have the two available as a choice (which would be more important for tablet/phone users, as the current one is not very touch-friendly). In Windows 8, they had a simplified basic settings menu that was geared more towards those with tablets, though it still had some useful things for desktop users. Either way, there's not really a problem with this. People complain that they don't do enough with each new version. They actually try to do a lot for once to modernize Windows, and everyone complains. I don't understand. Not that they're an amazing company, but are they just not allowed to have a decent product or go by without a bunch of drama? It seems like mindless bashing of anything or any company these days is the new big thing. Also, the term is Universal App. The term Metro hasn't been used since I think the early days of 8, then they switched to calling them Modern Apps (I believe because of a lawsuit by some company).
  22. It's "selling" you a free update to their own product which you are actively using. As stupid as it sounds, it's understandable. All of us here have a decent understanding of computers and are aware of when new versions of Windows are released, but there's also the bigger majority of people that don't have a clue when new versions are out. The latter is likely the target audience of that notification That middle row of icons was just bad. The latest set came with Build 10122 of the Preview and is actually fairly nice when in use. They're just modern renditions of the Vista/7 era icons. Windows 8 still had the Vista/7 icon set, so after 8+ years of the same icons, it's a nice change IMO. The real folder icons are actually a bit different than the comparison. Here's a screenshot directly from File Explorer: Additionally, if you're viewing the really tiny versions (16x16), they look like this:
  23. I think I may have tried it briefly a few months back, but I didn't test it for long. You'll have to let someone else answer that, though I imagine it wouldn't be a much different experience than with SE. I do not have the 767, sorry! I've not come across any incompatible addons as of yet, but I also don't run too terribly many of them.
