  1. I have had this experience as well - crazy amounts of power to break free - there is a bit difference depending on the prop you use, but not enough to account for this I think - also, I have been losing the ability to interact with the VC after landing and shutting down the engine - I have had to resort to using the 2D control panel to get things shut off - not sure if it's related to my using the Instant Replay before shutting the plane down - going to test it out...
  2. So far I am having issues with the Bat/Alt switches on my Saitek panel, but everything else is ok...
  3. I actually do have time in real 172s, but that was a thousand years ago, maybe I just forgot!
  4. Hmm, I have never had any sound problems going back and running the replay in FSX before on any aircraft (and I have quite a few), but I posted it in the A2A tech support forum, so we'll see what they think
  5. Got a couple of bugs so far (on my machine anyway) - missing many (most all), sounds on a replay in FSX, and the right hand GPS selector knob refuses to work for scrolling through airports etc., until I use the GPS in the dash first, then its ok unless I close the @d pop-up, then I have to go back to the dash mounted one again before using the 2D... ..and there sure is a ton of "runway rolling noise and bumps" when taxing, more than I ever got with Accu-Feel running on other aircraft - no big deal, just odd...
  6. from the manual: NOTE: while the A2A Accu-Sim C172 Trainer may work with SP1 or earlier, many of the features may not work correctly, if at all. We cannot attest to the accuracy of the flight model or aircraft systems under such conditions, as it was built using the SP2 SDK. Only Service Pack 2 is required. The Acceleration expansion pack is fully supported but is NOT REQUIRED.
  7. Wish I had an answer for you, as I have experienced this sort of thing from day 1 in "bone stock" FSX at certain airports regardless of the weather conditions with no other traffic - gets me every time at KASE (Aspen/Pitkin County), landing runway 15... ...but then I also get really wild levels of "ground effect" sometimes, most notably at Hopkins field (KAIB) - Nucla, Colorado - must be something about our Colorado airstrips
  8. Odd thing, I saw this for the first time flying the Legacy yesterday - it may have been there before and I missed it...
  9.     Not "visible" rudders - but according to the developers, the invisible rudders engage in a range from something like 5-25 knots while on the water - so this remains visually true to the plane, but provides surface handling that is more effective than differential thrust alone, since even with Accufeel the hydrodynamics of FSX leave a lot to be desired...
  10. Didn't look like this had been posted - sorry if its old news - only the amphib to go now...
  11. I am using the TwotterEx now in AH, and it ran about 1.9millions dollars...
  12. This echoes my experience as well regarding many of the places I have been flying outside of my dedicated ORBX regions - much too much green, and too many trees where there should be none or very few - so I bought the SceneryTech Landclass layer, and it helps in many places, but also hurts in others (not unlike FTX-G overall). That said, FTX-G allows me to go just about anywhere in the world on a whim to fly and have a pretty enjoyable experience, so once the ORBX OpenLC layers become available, and provide both some extra specially focused textures and land class info that of course will be "aware" of the entire FTX-G texture palate, things should start to look very good indeed, both from a display and value POV...
  13. I finally wound up going with the freeware Holger-mesh/photo-real for this area and is spectacular - that said, I also decided to pony up for the SceneryTech NA landclass v1.4 as well, and this really does make a huge difference when combined with FTX-G. Really interested now to see what OpenLC will bring to the table since it will be a combo of additional textures and a landclass base that will of course be fully "aware" of the FTX-G texture palate - good things ahead for sure...
  14. True here as well - and BTW, the icing effects are really sweet, had to turn on the windshield heat to keep it from freezing up - just awesome
  15. There currently is no "standard" way of uninstalling. I have been switching back and forth by keeping 2 "Texture" folders in "Scenery\World" One named Texture.fsx, one named Texture.ftxg , then just renaming the one I want to use by removing the file suffix before starting FSX Of course, this assumes you made the backup of your texture files when promted by FTX-G, and you have the room on your hard-drive to keep both sets handy...
  16. We all vote with our wallets, but in the grand scheme of things, I am pretty sure the number of folks that are upset enough to want their money back is pretty trivial - and in the end, those folks might come back to the ORBX product line for a dedicated region and then airports etc, if they have a good experience with the company when things go slightly sideways - I don't believe in karma per se, but the golden rule works pretty well... I think the screencaps that ORBX provided on their website was a decent attempt to give folks an idea of what was coming, but they didn't provide any shots of areas that weren't just flipping perfect (but marketing is like that), and they sometimes showed stuff that was "enhanced" with other products as well - now, in their defense they did note this when they did it, but it was mixed in with a lot screencaps, and the ramifications of using these add-ons may have been lost on some people. In the end, I am very excited and interested to see just how well FTX-G, OpenLC and other products yet to be named from ORBX (by other than vague reference from JV), are going to continue to breathe new life into a nearly decade old software product - and as a software developer myself, I have to say that for all its short comings, FSX/ESP has proven to be a remarkably open platform, and the fact that folks like JV/ORBX are savvy enough to exploit it is a really good sign for us flight simmers - I just wish I could still afford to keep flying in real life...
  17. And in a perfect world, everybody would have read and understood what was being presented and made their buying decision accordingly, but since this never happens in total, engendering a good public precpetion for ORBX is in their best interest, so again, they should just give folks their cash back who want it, and get on with providing the supporting product line. Whether or not somebody prefers one representation over another was never the point...
  18. I haven't been down there to look, but I'd be pretty surprised if the Kudzu had made it that far Seriously though, since its a "green for brown" texture hue issue and the land class definitions for snow and ice in Antarctica wouldn't be calling those texture files, I think the penguins are safe...
  19. With all due respect, IMHO, this is exactly what it did - the same land class information is being used for both FSX and FTX-G until OpenLC hits the scene, and the texture set that ORBX has provided with FTX-G has a green hue bias in exactly the same way that the stock FSX palate has a brown bias. For most folks this appears to be a good trade off and they are well pleased, while others (myself included), got a bit surprised at the result of installing the product - no big deal if you are in it for the "long haul" with ORBX as I am, but some people made the purchase without necessarily considering the ramifications, and they now feel like they have just swapped one set of problems for another. These people need to be civil when voicing their confusion and/or disappointment, but they are more than allowed to do so, and if they are not able to be satisfied in any other way (and won't be an OpenLC customer), then ORBX should graciously offer them their money back, and everybody should just move on...
  20. I wonder about that as well - I consider myself at least reasonably well informed on FSX, and I was a bit surprised that after the installation, things were so weirdly "off" in the first areas I went to fly in - it had not occured to me that FSX was so poorly "land classed" that a palate shift from brown to green would have such far reaching effects - it almost seemed like I had just swapped one set of texture problems for another. I guess it's pretty evident that FTX-G is a real improvement for a lot folks right "out of the box", so I am just one of those guys who is going to have to wait for OpenLC to bring the same improvements to the areas that I spend more time simming in when I am not flying in dedicated ORBX regions...
  21. I must admit I was a bit disappointed that he did that without really offering at least a "yeah that's what OpenLC will fix for you" comment or the like, but I guess I was just assuming he was trying to consolidate the threads on the "green creep" subject, or maybe he just thinks I am an ill-informed jack-a$$ :Big Grin: I saw the post from the Tasmanian guy - I guess the irony of making the exact same kind of generalizations he was complaining about was lost on him...
  22. In another-life I worked product support for a few years - it's a tough way to earn a wage. In this case, Mr. Venema did offer a very short explanation and suggest what additional product to look at in an entirely appropriate manner. If the guy is unhappy enough to want his money back, then they should do that and just move on...
  23. I am certainly voting with my wallet for JV and ORBX - just don't like feeling like I am walking a mine field at times when dealing with them - nuff' said on the subject I am guessing. Cheers...
  24. For some of us it's yet another hobby :Big Grin:
  25. Whether or not JV has been civil all the time is of course up to everybody's personal interpretation - I have seen some postings here and over at ORBX that push the boundaries sometimes for me pretty hard from a customer interaction POV, and while being legally inflammatory to the point of libel or slander is of course not somewhere you get to tread as a customer, I would argue that basic "rudeness" is something you had better be prepared to deal with in business, its just how people are sometimes - the trick is to turn it around - if you do your job right it's a win for everybody, even if the you just wind up giving people their money back. In personal relationships, JV seems like a guy I would like very much as well, and would probably enjoy having a beer (or 2 or 3), with, as I also like folks with a "rough and tumble", straight-shooting, no BS approach to life...
