  1. And ran into heavy snow. ?? (From Cody WY) Fun flight, but hardly realistic, hey? Went to the Weather Channel, and supposed to be 69 (F) and clear. I notice I am also getting quite a few cumulus clouds that are sitting on the ground. Maybe it's something I am doing wrong, but I have REXESS running before I start FSX, choose real world weather, launch with Shade. It's not something I am going to declare that FSX and REX are total scams over, and kill myself, but I do wonder what is going on?
  2. Yeah, that was the one! It was pretty hokie, but then I was but a child when I saw it, LOL!
  3. I'm a Milviz virgin, but will definitely pop my cherry with this one. I think the movie that forged the bond with the F-86 was, for me, one starring John Wayne, is that the movie you all are talking about?
  4. Tnx, just needed a push because I have finally got FSX running like it should, to my standards, anyway. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
  5. Finally got Essentials downloaded, but a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on uninstalling REX 2.0 after reading a few posts where some users report that it (Essentials) runs even slower than 2.0. Generally, I don't mess with REX once I have let it install it's textures, i.e., I don't change clouds or anything every time I fly. I guess I am just confused, and reading the REX forums generally leaves me more confused. Oh, and I am not someone who is comfortable with moving files and such-pretty much a lamer when it comes to that "stuff". Is Essentials that much better?
  6. Going to the buy it button simply transfers one to a vendor that does display the price. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
  7. I have, on Kindle, Microsoft Flight Simulator For Pilots Real World Training, and it uses all stock FSX planes, so maybe that is best, but I also have a few addon planes, i.e., Carenado 337 , 152, 185, etc. Also a few others, which I doubt are suitable, such as the L-39, LOL. So far, my FSX flying has been 98% "roads and rivers", with the remaining 2% GPS. Really want to learn how to fly by the VOR's, NDB's, etc. Suggestions? Or just stick with stock and the Learning Center?
  8. Sorry to bring this thread up from the dead, but wanted to thank all that replied. Updated my driver which allowed a newer Inspector, which gave me the FPS limiter setting. And all is good! :good:
  9. The bush plane for Alaska will be the Maule, maybe with skis. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk 2
  10. I have no idea which a/c have the best FDE's, but I like Carenado's 185 and 337 (FDE's by Bert Stolle?), and Baytower's RV-7. Posts on various forums, from RL pilots, say they are accurate. Only having flown, like 40 years ago, an Aeorcana Champ, how would I know? But the above mentioned aircraft, with full flaps and fine pitch, really drop fast. I can be pretty sloppy on my landing pattern because of this, and am wondering if this is realistic?
  11. First Light, by Geoffrey Wellum Biography of a Spitfire pilot in WW2. Absolutely delightful! One review on Amazon: "You'd think that after 50 years, all the worthwhile first-person there-I-was accounts of flying Spitfires in the Battle of Britain would have been published. You'd be wrong. This is an exceptionally well written book that gently yet almost instantly transports you to England, 1939. You'll go through RAF flight training, and then be behind a V12 Merlin over Kent in the middle of the Battle of Britain. There are hundreds of such true tales - and I've read most of them - but this is clearly one of the best. 'Boy' Wellum not only takes us inside the cockpit, but inside the emotions of a young man at war, and inside an amazing time and place in world history. If you are a pilot looking for what it was like to fly the Tiger Moth, Harvard, then at 168 hours climb into a Spitfire, this is the book for you. And if you are interested in a literate immersion into The Few, this is the book for you." Just an excellent book.
  12. Took off, and landed at Bowerman (in PNW, with the free airport), and it looked great until I taxied over to the cafe for a bite to eat. Everything looked great that is, except the static aircraft were all white. IIRC, they did have panel markings, pilots, etc., just no paints. Thing is, I have DX10 Preview unchecked! I have never even tried DX10 preview. Latest Nvidia driver, 12.9610, 560M. Funny thing is Inspector shows 3 G video memory, dxdiag shows approx 700 M? :unknw: And, as always, Leaving for work in a few hours, so if anyone replies, forgive my tardiness in acknowledging your post.
  13. I have to agree, I don't understand, but "different strokes for different folks".
  14. Thanks guys, been away from internet for a couple of days, will head to that site, and download it now. edit: Must be down right now, or extremely slow, or something. Also, seems you do have to register, but that's no big deal. Will try again later.
  15. Every link I try seems to be old and not valid. Or, conversely, could someone email me the file? Really nice scenery package, had it on my last computer.
  16. Still searching the web, but it seems Asus does not allow easy updating of mobile graphics. Options are grayed out in the control panel. :( Will keep searching. And thanks for the help so far. :)
  17. You are very harsh. LOL, just kidding! OK, I will do what you suggest, I am not one who enjoys updating drivers, but needs must, I suppose.
  18. I, for one, do not have a "frame rate limiter" line in Inspector! Neither in the "Common" section, or at the bottom like your example shows. 1.9.5.11 Running a mobile card, 560m, could that be the problem? Trying to set a limit on the frames is driving me crazy. 268.37 is says is my driver, could that be the problem? I just bought this machine a week ago.
  19. Paul, away from computer now, will check that out. Don't know how I missed that. Thanks. Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
  20. Still having trouble, sorry. I downloaded Inspector, followed the instructions linked above, but there was no line for frame rate limiter under the common settings. Version 1.9.5.11 FWIW, just using bejote's tool, without the external or Inspector limiters, my frames vary wildly from the 50's to the 80's. (Which I find to be amazing on a laptop!) I did not have Java, so installed that, got to the GUI, but when clicking "create .bat", didn't see any changes, and most certainly not a desktop shortcut, which I did have on my old Vista64 system. Frankly, I am at a loss. edit: I am away from the internet for days at a time, so if I fail to reply with a thanks and/or update in a timely manner, that's why. I do read your suggestions, and appreciate them, believe me!
  21. Hmm, never heard of this one, I'll Google it. Thanks
  22. Thanks for the "hep". Browsing around the web, it seems Chrome does not play nice with Java, which may be part of my problem in getting the downloaded limiter to unpack/run properly. To Paul>>I am going to bookmark that site, and study it, lot of info there, thanks.
  23. Seriously, though, I am trying to set up a new computer, and after many "two steps forward, one step back" kind of dealies, I am getting close to my old set of add-ons, adapted to the machine, of course. But, I cannot seem to get the "external fps limiter" to install? I download it, unzip it with Winrar evaluation copy, and it seems as if it just "flashes" for an instant, and that's the end of it? When I had this utility on my old Vista64 computer, there was a shortcut (actually quite a few) created on the desktop, nothing like that this time. Running W7 64bit now. Bejote's tweaker site recommends this utility, and I know the 2 made FSX 100 times better on the old machine, so I would like to at least try it on this machine (laptop). Specs: Intel Core i7 2670QM Processor 2.2GHz 12GB DIMM RAM 1.5TB 7200RPM Hard Drive 17.3-Inch Screen, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit Processor, Memory, and Motherboard Hardware Platform: PC Processor: 2.2 GHz Core i7-2630QM Number of Processors: 4 RAM: 12 GB RAM Type: SODIMM Max RAM: 12 GB Memory Slots: 4 Hard Drive Size: 1500 GB Type: Serial ATA Speed: 7200 rpm Graphics and Display Graphics RAM: 3000 MB LCD Native Resolution: 1920 x 1080 Sound
  24. I actually watched the whole thing, quite funny.
