  1. Very nice stuff indeed. Your changes to the trees do look very good - that's definitely the way to go.A few questions out of curiosity: Does that increased tree density have a big fps impact? What resolution is the "hd mesh" you used in those shots? Would there be a way to increase the mesh/texture resolution for orbit textures that seem to be used for anything further than 25nm too? Great stuff - keep up the good work :(
  2. I guess its not so much a question of effort but texture resolution. I'm not 100% sure but I think FSX allows texture sizes of 4096 x 4096 pixels whereas X-Plane textures are limited to a maximum of 2048 x 2048 pixels. I think thats a pity because everything looks better with higher resolution textures.Plus you should also keep in mind that those shots are pre beta.
  3. There is a post with a few preview pics (pre beta) in the Aerosoft forums (in German) for the X-Plane version of their Zürich airport scenery:http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/52921-zrich-fr-x-plane-10-ein-paar-pre-beta-bilder/
  4. Wow - that looks very impressive already. Might be even better with trees added.
  5. I found it on youtube - I didn't do it myself.
  6. Since I have basically no real world experience I can't tell whether FSX or X-Planes flight model is more accurate. To me X-Plane has a more fluid and realistic feel. This video suggests that at least for this situation and this aircraft (Carenado C152 II) the flight model seems to be not completely off. But this may vary much from file to file.
  7. To me it sounds more like they are trying to figure out what it would take to port over one of their aircraft from FSX to X-Plane.
  8. To find and hit the right spot is a bit difficult. I just assigned a joystick button / keyboard shortcut for that - much easier now
  9. I'm not sure if just increasing display contrast would be the best solution because you will end up increasing contrast for the entire image (as in the shots above) which will lead to blown out highlights in the clouds and shadows that are too dark. I guess the best option really might be to edit the textures themselves.
  10. One thing i noted in a lot of X-Plane 10 screenshots is the lack of contrast in the textures. Very often the scenery looks a bit dull. Since I am currently unable to run X-Plane 10 at all and I don't have my new computer just yet I decided to play a little with the screenshots that alpilotx posted in his "X-Plane 10, Landscapes of the world" thread (http://forum.avsim.n...125-screenshots). I tried to add just a little bit of contrast to them and in my personal opinion this subtle change makes quite a bit of a difference. Even though in reality from the air the scenery might not be as colorful and contrasty as the edited pics to me they look much more real. Might be my personal perception though.Since alpilotx kindly granted me to post the edited shots in here I'll give you a few examples of what I mean:I wonder if it might be possible to create some sort of texture-mod by just adding contrast to the default textures.
  11. Very awesome. This is a little quantum leap compared to XP9 in my opinion. Terrain looks so much smother than it did before and the higher resolution textures do make quite a difference as well. Cant wait to explore the world.I noted a few low res XP9 textures - I hope those will get replaced at some point - and there didn't seem to be a single palm tree on Hawaii too. Other than that this is really great stuff.
  12. Some nice screenshots that include cloud shadows ...http://xplane10.wordpress.com/2011/12/03/xp10-shadowlands-cloudscapes/
  13. I'm in a similar situation and I intend to build a new PC soon as well. I am trying to decide between a NVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti (2GB) and an ATI Radeon HD 6950 (2GB) for Windows 7. Is there a rule of thumb if ATI or NVidial should be preferred for X-Plane? Waiting for the next generation sounds tempting too but I guess it will take at least another 4 to 6 month until the new stuff will be available at a reasonable price. I'm not sure if I have that much patience .
  14. There is a fast mirror on chip.de.http://www.chip.de/d...e_31525841.htmlAt least here in Germany/Europe its faster than my (not so fast) dsl internet connection. 18 minutes left, about 1,5 hours total. Could probably have been much faster if my connection had more bandwidth ...
  15. Use Bittorrent I suppose. I am get varying speeds between 100 and 300 kb/sec and you avoid sever errors too.
  16. Thanx Out of interest - what is the maximum setting for visibility?
  17. Where is the screenshot then? I'm still at work and I want something to look at ;-).
  18. Wow - didn't expect it yet. Any first impressions anyone?
  19. A little bit of an AI plane visible in this one: Unfortunately it is of very low resolution and has crappy video compression though.
  20. Wow - they seem very busy taking lot's of nice screenshots. I like how detailed the cockpits are.
  21. Yup - lot's of trees make a huge difference to create a realistic look. I'm not sure however if I like the decission to make them bigger than reality to better fill the gaps. It sometimes looks a bit odd like in http://www.x-plane.com/wp/wp-content/gallery/forests/baron_58_10.jpg.Also I wonder why some trees are crossed billboards and some are only plain (see http://www.x-plane.com/wp/wp-content/gallery/forests/baron_58_13.jpg). I don't know how to say that - I hope you understand what I mean. Viewed from top some are + and some are only |. That is something I already wondered in V9. I think it might look even denser when all trees where crossed. But maybe that has something to do with performance.

  23. There is a huge selection of new screenshots at the X-Plane page. I just took a few favorites of each folder and resized them to better fit the forum.
