  1. I've posted some screenshots here over the UK I think it looks quite nice, and most importantly, it's really smooth (even over central london, loaded with objects). The antialiasing I agree isn't the greatest, but it's acceptable to me and doesn't bother me too much
  2. I recently upgraded to a new Macbook Pro M2 Max and I'm loving how much smoother X-Plane is on it. Even over central London it's super smooth I flew up from Biggin Hill to Hull and grab some screenshots along the way:
  3. Yep, your friend is right. I can't even load it up at LPPT, it just freezes on this screen and then eventually crashes (all default scenery). I'll report a bug to LR
  4. Yeah, there are a few utilities floating around that switches the screen to its native resolution (not using Retina scaling), once you set that, you'll need glasses to read your screen but you can then run X-Plane at native resolution. I was able to do this on my last mac, but the experience wasn't pretty As for performance.. I guess because it's such a massive improvement for me over my Windows 2080 laptop and my previous Macbook that I can forgive some issues for now, but I certainly did notice some issues such as flickering clouds and things like powerlines flickering like crazy. However, what I failed to realise is how few games actually are compiled for the ARM64 platform (ignoring the iPad/iPhone games). In addition, Parallels advertises it can emulate/run Windows, but fails to mention clearly it's the ARM version of Windows that can barely run anything, including SQL database Server which I need for work. Docker luckily saved the day for me
  5. Update... I tried it earlier on the M2 Max 16" Macbook Pro that I got this morning. (Maxed out config, except the SSD) The difference between this and the I9 Mac is night and day, it runs super smooth on max settings and the laptop doesn't get too hot. So far, really happy with performance.
  6. The majority of XP11 scenery will just work in XP12, but of course will still look like XP11 scenery (trees, etc) unless they use default scenery objects/forests
  7. Thanks J, I spent a fair amount of money on getting the best model (I use it outside of simming as well). The LR devs seem to use these machines, so I'm going to presume it's going to do well, it should do at the wallet-draining price it cost
  8. I'm interested in hearing people's experience using X-Plane on the Apple M* chips. I have an older Intel I9 Macbook Pro but have recently ordered an M2 Max (the new ones), I'm curious how XP12 will run on it. Does anyone here use an M1 processor/gpu, what is your experience using them?
  9. I had the pleasure of meeting him a few years ago. He's as eccentric in person as he is on video
  10. Just to add regarding patents, Austin actually released a documentary about it called "The Patent Scam": https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6567002/ I think it's on Amazon Prime at the moment. It's worth a watch, as it shows just how corrupt and messed up the system is and how these criminals took on the wrong guy when they decided to go for Laminar Research
  11. It just uses Bing... I also found the USGS data sources extremely good for the US.
  12. I love picking up some area in MSFS I'd never fly in. e.g. I flew across the Arabian peninsular and it was incredible scenery as well as random places in the USA. However, the areas I knew well.. the results were mixed. My home town here in Poland looked really bad, that I made my own overlay and orthos:
  13. I've cleaned this topic up and removed the bickering posts. Please stay on topic
  14. and despite what many will say, they do actually listen to feedback
  15. I'm with you on this one, I think it's something to do with the Change Over Time weather setting (can't remember the exact setting name). It regularly happens to me even if it's blue skies above and immediately around me, at least I don't see any pattern to why it occurs (i.e. It's not when flying through or under clouds for me).
  16. Sure, but that's not what the original poster asked. He just asked if it was possible and it's been answered nicely above, that's all. Not everyone uses the simulator this way
  17. So, there was absolutely no need for you to comment on this thread then, you could have just ignored it.
  18. mSparks, why are you turning this into a debate and making it about XP vs MFS again? The OP asked a question if it was possible, that was all. Just because you personally don't think it's useful or a good feature doesn't automatically make it bad.
  19. Nothing more to be said here, this topic isn't going anywhere. Locked
  20. I still remember fondly from the early 2000s the year of the Linux desktop (I struggled on with my Gnome desktop)... still waiting
  21. A few of the top of my head.... Orbx, PilotPlus, iniBuilds, Gaya, perhaps Drzewiecki (although their XP products were just ports of P3D products). They have shifted heavily over to MFS development from P3D and X-Plane (but haven't necessarily said they've stopped XP development, just heavily shifted focus). I was surprised to even see places like ThresholdX also shift their attention more to MFS. It's very noticeable IMO, and easy to understand why (it's where the customers are). I remember when MFS was first released/announced and there was a lot of hate thrown towards 'greedy" scenery developers and that addons will no longer be needed. Clearly, that didn't turn out too well As I said earlier though.. MFS is very over-saturated, so for small developers it's harder to stand out and get noticed and be competitive with the lower prices offered by others. Plus I'd argue you need to work much harder to make a high quality scenery for X-Plane since it's far less forgiving in terms of poorly modelled or textured objects (Lighting and AO make a huge difference)
