  1. I'm think he's saying this in jest. That scene is a pre recorded cut scene of an, "oh my that's a teeth rattling landing!" It was tough to watch!I enjoyed that mission as well. Once you get the rhythm down, the timing is good and the sequence makes sense. I also had some problem with the aileron roll. I was coordinated and level the whole way through and didn't end my roll early or late and it still said not quite. I also observed the scoring act the same way. In fact, I've seen that elsewhere and so have others on this forum.
  2. No help I can offer, but are you getting these seemingly at random? It doesn't happen all that often to me, but it happens when I'm over sparse scenery areas or very dense. Most of the time it is perfectly smooth, so I'm n out sure what causes it.I have also noted that it also happens when out of multiplayer sessions so it is not being caused by people joining and leaving. The stutters are usually brief in duration but can totally mess up a landing if they happen down low.
  3. What is strange is that I never felt a leaning tendency in FSX. In Flight I feel this everytime, just like I do in RL. I'm not sure why it works for me in Flight, but the feeling of disorientation is very real.
  4. You're sort of on the right track. Your "indicated" stall speed is a constant regardless of altitude. You are however moving faster through the thinner air to make the same indicated airspeed. You should still land at the same airspeeds you normally would.Even better than monitoring the speed, you have an angle of attack indicator on the Icon so you have plenty of warning about an imminent stall. You start out that challenge in a position to enter downwind. I don't recall the headings, but pay attention to your drift right at the moment the challenge begins. You want to land so that you are flying into the wind as directly as possible to make things easer for yourself.
  5. Does that make us Metrosimsuals?
  6. I just tried this again and can not repro the event. I tried cycling the avionics during that first session when the problem occured.I tried both Nav radios and tried listening for the morse code, but nothing. Even the freqs were set (multiple VORs were tested) and I rotated the Omnibearing knobs and watched the dials turn, the needles never budged from the center position.Oh well. My first "failed" system in Flight.
  7. I guess when I started out in Sub Logic FS II at 8 years old, my brain was pre-programmed from that point forward to think that the center of the worlds was Chicago Meigs field R.I.P. (I am a New Yorker).I just got used to flying the rather empty skies of Illinois and one day I discovered O'Hare Intl. It was a thrill! In a way I've just experienced a reboot and "discovered" Hawaii. :)However, I totally understand that the consumer would want to do a bit a local flying and see their hometown or other local sights. Heaven knows how many times I slewed to some point so I could see the landmarks of NY.*sigh* good memories... I've never had the chance to visit Meigs field in person. In any case, on the the point of what makes a simulator a simulator... (for me in order of priority)1 Replicating the behaviors of particular aircraft, their subsystems and the human interfaces is foremost.2 The ability to replicate realistic weather parameters3 The infrastructure that supports the pilot and aircraft such as radio Nav aids, GPS, etc.4 The ability to input and modify the above parameters to create specific scenario to recreate real world events (weather, systems failures, weight and balance)5 ATC using real people in a network environment6 There are so many aspects, but scenery and a specific locale is low on my list.Such a tool should process a set of input data and allow one to make a flight and get a particular fairly reproducible outcome (time flown, fuel consumed, techniques used, issues encountered, etc.)One "simple" scenario can be shooting a landing over and over in a 12G18 xw on a 35C day with a 2500x40ft runway at night with no electrical at a remote untowered field where I can't get the runway lights on without my radio and my fuel is getting too low to wait for someone to show up and hopefully turn them on. Wait I said too much there... :)
  8. As a VFR pilot I need zero knowledge of the area I am flying in to perform my duty. It does however help a lot if I do know the area so that I don't have to search very hard for whatever it is that I am looking for.All one has to do is use their handy dandy Sectional Chart and pick out landmarks as checkpoints along their route. As none of the simulators offer any useful charts to support VFR navigation, might I recommend skyvector.com as a resource to plan your next VFR flight? :) It uses real world charts and you can just type in a series of waypoints for it to draw your route on the chart.I haven't tried it myself for use with Flight, but I imagine with the loads of scenery in Flight that it should work out well.
  9. Are you mocking me? Yes, the damage modeling or complete lack thereof is an issue. For all the improvements that have been made in the area of slow flight and mushing, something went way off the mark with stalls either at low airspeed or accelerated. The initial mush and buffeting feels great, good cues, sink rate looks good. But then the ailerons remain too effective, and the elevator has way too much effectiveness at keeping the nose up even with no power. Finally, there is no "departure" from flight into a stall, the worst you get seems to be a really bad mush which is the best "new" feature in Flight.Ditto on the spins. At least we can enter a "spin" with a lot of effort, but I wish the aircraft would stabilize in that state. Countless times, I've tried to enter a spin in base to final to test things out and I can't do it without trying to perform a hammerhead first. If they can fine tune the stall/spin it would be awesome.---Also another gripe is in the Stearman aerobatics mission where Malia says a spin occurs when one wing is stalled. She apparently failed that question on her written exam! :Nerd:
  10. Taxi to the desired spot and then save your position in a Free Flight mission so you can pull it up again. You will start off in the same state you saved in (secured, started, half secured). I think the trim positions reset however.
  11. It helps with passenger happiness rating when the other kamikaze pilots on Live! stop intentionally crashing into us. I've been on the receiving end of a few while on a job and I've seen a few of those touch off a fight. :)
  12. I discovered that VORs don't work when on an Aerocache hunt. I haven't tried to repro the event yet, but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this.I assume that this was done to avoid having people advise each other of a radial and distance to reach an aerocache, but then I could just use free flight to get to that point, so this may be a bug and not a "feature".
  13. There is a very simple option that you can use, and I use it regularly when this happens... MUTEJust go into the player profile under the players list in the Live! control panel and select the mute option near the bottom.
  14. I made it using no flaps and keeping the approach around 90kts. Any less and I found the rudder became too draggy and I got on the wrong side of the power curve and stayed to sink to fast. The runway is long enough to come in with the extra speed that I needed to keep control.
  15. There is no nose wheel to stop you from flipping over. Release the brakes every now and then and let aerodynamic braking do its part. You'll get a feel for it.
  16. I read that Flight is supposed to automatically trim or something to that effect when using the mouse to fly. Perhaps there is an issue when on the ground roll and it over compensates for torque?
  17. Anytime I've gone up at night, I've had to herd deer off the taxiway, off the runway, of the taxiway again and into the woods. With the airplane of course. :)We did have one unfortunate soul who lost his plane when he ran into a deer on a night landing.luckily he was uninjured.
  18. Nope, it doesn't work yet, but you can use the brake button to . I mapped it to a joystick trigger temporarily.
  19. I have a friend who is into aviation, flies well in combat flight sims such as IL2, loves to play complex strategy games and is extremely detail oriented. Yet, he won't give a flight simulator the time of day. It's just too boring for him in his own words. It's not going to be pretty.
  20. That story is terrifying and yet hilarious. If the plane can take that sort of abuse.... I want one! :)I can fix that. LOL
  21. Okay, now we're talking. So it's about the amount of parametrization and the very specific scenarios that can be set up. On that point I'm with you 110% sadly, Flight doesn't even make an attempt at this.I have logged close to 15 hours in a Redbird AATD. Never sat in any of the larger ones though I have seen the Dassault Falcon unit at Teterboro.
  22. So a functional 6 pack, dual VOR receivers, standard radio stack, a switch panel, lighting controls, elevator trim, complex controls and all the usual engine, vacuum gauges, etc. is not up to snuff? What do you fly normally?! :)the flight model is the one improvement to write home about. :)Also, why would you use a mouse when you should be using the controls you use with FSX. I'm using my rudder pedals, stick and throttle quadrant without issue. What does the throttle doesn't feel real mean? If I push it in, I climb, if I pull it out, I descend. If I set for cruise and trim I fly level.Sorry but i feel compelled to keep asking this out of curiosity because I do not understand the basis for these statements.
  23. Ticosimmer, you have actually tried Flight, right? If not you're missing out. :)It didn't sound to me like you've used Flight yet.I also strongly feel MS made a huge mistake in not including an aircraft with VOR receivers, transponder, etc. in the free download. It is a HUGE turnoff for any serious flight simmer.
  24. C172, C182, Beech Bonanza, Pipera, Diamonds, Cirrus, Commander, the stuff you see at small airports everywhere. :)
