  1. FSX? I get silky smooth frames with 100% traffic @ KLAX in FS9 using UT. FPS is not an issue for me in FS9.
  2. Peter, Not really a fan of INS at the moment. I'd rather do vor. But in the future when I wanna try a different way of flying, I may give INS another shot. Main reason I want the CS is for the Air Canada livery. Planning to do my purchase tonight. Will probably try DF because of the vor tutorial. Dillon, No clickable VC for DF or CS version?
  3. Thanks for the help everyone. I will get both but will start with the CS. That way, when I get the DF version with all the extras, it will feel like an upgrade. Just reading the description of DF's 727 sounds a little scary lol. Since the CS is somewhat lighter with system simulation, I think it's good practice for me to start with it. For those using CS, how do you get your V speeds? I just started flying VOR and it's a lot of fun. Other than the 727, do any other commercial jets do vor to vor in real life? How about the DC-10? I got vor to work on it but not sure if they actually use it in real life. Gonna do a flight later using IFR high altitude and run the vor while in NAV mode. That way I can keep myself busy doing both. Zelijko, Bought the PMDG MD-11 for both FSX and FS9. I rarely fly FSX anymore. Will probably wait 5 years or so until I can get a PC to completely max it out. It's my favorite aircraft at the moment. Gonna get the Perfect Flight L-1011 also. I'm so bummed the new Just Flight 1011 is fsx only.
  4. Thanks Robert. I'm going to purchase this over the weekend along with the TSS 727 sound pack. Watched a VOR tutorial on youtube and just tried it for the first time on the Cessna and CLS DC-10. I think I'm going to enjoy the 727. Any specific bug I should know about upon start up? I plan to purchase it from Flight1's website. I think it should be up to date.
  5. Hi Dave, The main ones I'm looking for would probably be the updated Garuda and Air Canada liveries. I'll check the files section of this site and see what I can find. Thanks
  6. I'm thinking about giving the Captain Sim 727 a shot. I have a thing for tri-jets. I have checked out several reviews but still unable to find some of the info I'm looking for. Is it considered a "lite" aircraft? What I mean is, are the flight plans and way points automatically inserted into the aircraft's navigation system like on CLS planes? I came across one review that mentioned there is no V speed calculation. How are you guys getting your V speeds? I hear the Dream Fleet version is suppose to be better with a more in-depth system simulation. I will probably end up getting that as well but when I'm not doing a serious flight, I enjoy the 'lite' planes.
  7. Excellent. Thanks Cougar. I hope it fixes my lighting issue because I can't go back to DX9. DX9 just never seem that smooth to me even though I can get good performance.
  8. Thanks Peter. I think that's the most logical thing for me to do at the moment. Can you recommend a site where I can obtain up to date textures and aircrafts legally? I will look through the UT manual to find out how to do all this stuff.
  9. The jerky frames you mentioned is the result of fluctuating fps from a lower number to something much higher. Panning or moving quickly should not cause any hiccups @ 60fps assuming it doesn't drop too much below 60. Stutters will occur when your frame rate is constantly jumping from 50 to 100, then down to 50 again and up again to 120. When you lock your fps @ 60 for example, you may get a minimum of 25 or 30 at payware airports with 100% traffic. So going from 30 back to your target 60 is only 30fps difference. If you get a minimum of 30 when set to unlimited and it jumps to 100, that is a 70fps difference which will give you more noticable stutters. Even though your monitor's refresh rate is 60, the video card is still pumping out all the extra frames above 60. It will work harder than when you have it locked. But if you're getting better smoothness with unlimited frames, then use what works best for you. I'm running on a plasma with 500hz and I get a lot of stutters when set to unlimited. As for Vsync, I leave mine off because I don't get any image tearing in FS9 no matter what fps I'm getting.
  10. Not with FS9 as far as I can tell. The fps limiter in FS9 is different than the one on FSX. It's FSX that a lot of people set to unlimited especially when flying airliners. I've tried different settings on my FS9 and find I get the best performance when locked @ 60fps. When set to unlimited, I get stutters during spikes in fps (from steady 45 and spiking to 120 for example) which is quite often. When locked @ 60, it's silky smooth.
  11. Hi guys, I still can't get the lights to work properly on my default aircrafts and PMDG MD-11 in DX10. The only other payware aircraft I installed where the lights work fine is the CLS MD80. I'm thinking about trying the payware shockwave 3d lights. Will they work in DX10? Also, are they easy to install into 3rd party aircrafts? I'm hoping this will fix my lighting problem in DX10 because as I understand it from the description, it replaces the lights. Doesn't look like it modifies the current ones.
  12. Thanks for all the help guys. I was hoping it wouldn't come to this :( . It's sad that there is no new traffic program. With all the payware being out of date, I think a new one would sell very well to the FS9 users but developers have lost interest in FS9 :( . Thanks for the links. I will check out other ways to get ai but I understand there may be legal issues with some, so I'll have to find legit ones. It's the time consuming task that turns me off from stuff like woai. I like an easy installer and do it all in one shot, that's why I'm still using UT. I will probably find a way to import new liveries into my current UT installation. I still haven't read the manual yet  . Thanks again
  13. I agree. If I'm doing a flight at dawn before the lights turn off, I disable night lighting because of the autogen issue you mentioned. But for dusk and night time flying, I'm hooked on the lights, especially the last few minutes before touch down. I also have GEPro. At first I picked the more red colors but it blended in with the UT night lights and made them harder to see. I've gone back to default colors because it gives a good contrast with the UT lights. GEP is such a great program. So many ways to customize the environment and it's global.
  14. Thanks Geoff. I have my autogen slider maxed out. Is there a way to increase the autogen visibility range? I think you can do that with fsx but not sure about fs9.
  15. Anybody know what's the most up to date traffic program? I'm currently using Flight1's Ultimate Traffic. Traffic density is excellent at 100% but a lot of the liveries are now old. I'm looking for payware because I would rather pay to have an all in one package than install new stuff into my UT installation which I don't even know how to do. I fly airliners so I don't mind if it doesn't have military. Any help greatly appreciated
  16. Hi folks, Is there a way to increase the radius of UT night lighting around your aircraft? I finally tried it out last night using the MD-11 from KLAX to KLAS. Very impressive, especially when I was doing my final in to KLAS. Would be nice to have more lights in the distance when flying higher up.
  17. This is weird. Just tried again with the MD-11 and the lights are showing same behavior as the default 737 while on the ground now.
  18. I just did some more testing and thought I'd share my observations. These tests were done with the light fix files placed in the Effects folder. First I tried the CLS MD-81/82. Not a single problem with lights here. I went past 10 000ft everything is perfect. This aircraft was advertised as DX10 compatible. I'm guessing it doesn't share any sort of lighting files and cfg with the default aircrafts. Just a guess. Next I tried the default 737. Lights are working but not visible from certain angles. Looking at the lights using outside view, they would sometimes disappear as I move the view from, say, from the side of the aircraft to the back. This happens on the ground and in the air. Beacons don't seem to light up but their reflections do. Then I tried the PMDG MD-11. Everything work fine until I'm about 2000ft up. At this stage, it's plagued with the same problem as those listed on the 737. The lights are visible most times but when I try to get a side view of the aircraft, the lights go out. When using wing view, nav and strobes are visible but once I get to 2000ft, they disappear. One thing I'm thinking about trying, is installing REX again and install one of their aircraft nav and strobe lights theme. I'm currently using AS2012 for textures but it doesn't include nav lights. Just strobe. The external lights on my aircrafts are default. Are you DX10 users using default or REX external aircraft lights?
  19. Thanks so much Paul. That makes it so much easier. I will apply the rain fix.
  20. Thanks Jim. I just checked simmarket and the demo is available for download there. Gonna give it a shot. As for my strobe/nav lights... Anybody know anything about it? It seems to turn off after I pass 2000ft. This and the rain issue are the only things left for me to fix in DX10. I still haven't done the rain fix yet.
  21. Hi all, I just started flying in DX10 and I'm loving it. I can have light bloom turned on, UTX night lights, etc and still get very smooth performance. I don't think I can fly in DX9 again lol. So far I have installed the patch that fixed main issues like flickering runway textures, etc. I noticed that my nav and strobe lights don't work shortly after take off. I've tested this on my PMDG MD-11 and default 747. If I view the aircraft from the front and back, the lights work, but when I view it from the side, it doesn't. I pasted the 7 files from the link on Paul J's "how to" guide into my effects folder but it didn't do anything. I made a backup of the effects folder prior, so when it didn't work, I deleted the one with the 7 files and moved the original back in. Did I miss something for the light fix? I also have a question about addonconverterX. I also have quite a few Just Flight/CLS aircrafts (DC-10, A330, etc). I'm thinking about buying it. Anybody know if this add on work on those aircrafts? I'd like to thank Paul J, Steve and others for taking the time to make DX10 what it is today. Thanks
  22. Thanks a lot for the help guys. Level_7, Thanks for sharing the link. I had no idea it was posted there. I will download the ENB settings. I can't wait. Olli, I was able to re-create the atmosphere as well but only by lowering the visibility. Other than that, it didn't look as good. I will be using the FT ENB settings that Level_7 posted and see how it turns out. Menduco, Nice to see another Torontonian here :-). I'm very excited about it. I really hope it's CYYZ because I fly airliners 99% of the time and a lot of my flights usually start there. I live less than 10 mins away from CYYZ :-). Omni, I do have Sweet FX but haven't tried it on FSX yet. I've been using it on FS9. I'll play around with it on FSX. Zowen, I agree. I get very immersed when using their products. Their color balance and everything is excellent, even without ENB. The only thing with Kai Tak that shows its age to me would be the FS9 style ground textures. But it doesn't bother me one bit because there are so many high quality buildings everywhere. And nobody actually looks at the ground when coming in for one of the most intense landing on RW 13. Thanks again everyone.
