  1. I was just on FT's website checking to see if they've finished Toronto. Anyways, I started looking at the other airports and noticed that their screen shots look very realistic. Anybody know if the pics are altered/enhanced? Is it ENB? I'd love to have my FSX look like that.
  2. Thanks for the help everyone. I will get permission from the photographers first.
  3. Hi guys, The title says it all. I came across a lot of videos on youtube that feature slide shows of airliners.net pictures. So just wondering if it's ok? I'm guessing it's ok as long as the watermark/photographer name is shown? Please correct me if I"m wrong. Thanks
  4. You read it wrong again  . He wants to increase the frequency of lightning, not change the effects. Phil, I'm assuming you're not using realtime weather Try playing around with FSX custom weather. The more severe you make it, the more lightning you should see. I got a lot of lightning using the major thunderstorm theme. But I'm sure there's got to be a way to increase it through a cfg file. I'll leave that for the more advanced users to answer.
  5. Toufic, I do have ENB but not using it at the moment because I'm running the BP=0 tweak. I heard this is a no no if you want to take advantage of what BP=0 can give. But I may give it a try anyway just to see. Thanks for the link. I do have that particular enb. When looking at the thread again, I didn't realize that Shade was being used. I tried that enb setting and palette without Shade a while back and find the brightness too strong. I fly on a 60" plasma with all the lights out, so the brightness tend to be a little much at times. However, I just started using Shade again and I'll give it a shot. Thanks again. Paul, Thanks for the suggestion. I do use SweetFX on FS9 and really enjoy the result. I'm worried about using it or enb at the moment because of the BP=0 tweak. I think I will try both SweetFX and ENB to see how much performance loss I get. Hope it doesn't affect the fps increase I got from bp=0. Thanks Tom, I'd really like to use DX10 but it will be too problematic right now because I have a lot of add on airports from Aerosoft. Last time I tried it, some of the buildings on my add ons lost their textures. I found out that Aerosoft makes their add ons for DX9 only. Also, I had a major problem with my PMDG MD-11 landing lights in DX10. Somehow, the light was cast about 100ft ahead and about 50ft to the right. Re-installing the aircraft didn't fix the problem. I had to re-install everything which was a nightmare lol. I really like the perf increase in DX10, along with the water and lighting but I think I will wait until they have a fix that address all DX10 problems. I'm scared to click on the DX10 preview tab again because I'd hate to have to re-install everything if my MD-11 lights go weird again lol. Thanks again for your help, guys.
  6. Hey folks, I'm able to make FSX run quite well on lower settings with bloom enabled. This is only for default aircrafts and CLS add ons. Under graphics, everything is maxed except for water (low 2x), Autogen (sparse), Scenery Complexity (normal). With the CLS MD-80 at Aerosoft's Palma De Mallorca with high UT2 ai, all road and airport vehicles turned on, I get pretty consistent 24fps (min I saw was 18-19). This is still playable for me, but I still haven't tested PMDG. The thing is, I'm hooked on the bloom. I love the effects but my landscape is less 3d now with low autogen and scenery complexity. I heard that bloom relies on the graphics card. I'm currently running a GTX560. Is there a card that can give good fps with bloom turned on? Normally, without bloom, I set scenery complexity at 'dense' and autogen on 'normal' when flying cls and pmdg aircrafts. fps is very good to excellent, even with 100% traffic from UT2. I'd like to have these higher settings back while using bloom. Is it possible by now? Thanks
  7. Reminds me of how the Douglas company dealt with their faulty cargo doors in the DC-10's early days. They knew what the problem was after the first incident and didn't do anything until it happened again for the second time. It's still my favorite aircraft along with the MD-11 but it's scary when I think about how they dealt with it.
  8. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the most important one is installing FSX itself. You just have to make sure you test, then defrag and reboot after the FSX installation and then test and defrag and reboot again after installing Acceleration. After my fsx/acc install, I begin installing my add ons one by one. After each install, I load up fsx to make sure the add on is working, then defrag and repeat for the next install. I have tried DX10 but there are a lot of issues that will pop up. You can find fixes for them on the DX10 forum. Hope this helps.
  9. Thanks for the help guys. Unfortunately Word Not Allowed's guide doesn't work very well on my system. I tried it about a month ago. It seems, the more I tinker with the cfg settings, the more problems I create. The best results for me so far would be using the default cfg settings with highmemfix and bp=0 applied. Another issue I get with Word Not Allowed's instructions for vsync is major stutters. My PC is one of those that doesn't like locked frames at all. When I lock my frames at 30fps, I get a lot of stutters, but on unlimited it's very smooth. Same result with GA or complex aircrafts. Also, with my favorite aircraft, PMDG MD-11, running locked frames on a payware airport gives me very poor fps (in the teens). I also ran my cfg through the ******* tweaker. After the tweaks, it works great in less dense areas but stutters too much around cities. So I will probably have to stick with the default cfg settings which is giving me the best results so far. Now I'm a little confused. David Roch wrote on his write up that AA, AF, and VSync must be off in Inspector, but Word Not Allowed and you guys say to enable them in Inspector. I thought the whole idea of bp=0 is to free up as much energy on the GPU so it can handle the massive amount of fsx data coming from the CPU? I remember reading somewhere that you won't gain anything from the bp=0 tweak if you let Inspector handle AA, AF and VSync. Is this true? I may have to try and see but I'm worried it might damage my GPU. I stopped using ENB as well because I hear you can't use it with bp=0 Muskoka, I'd love to go DX10 but it just creates too much problems. I love the look and colors in DX10 but the issues I ran into makes it a no go. At night, a lot of buildings don't have lights, some buildings in Aerosoft's Approaching Innsbruck have no texture, flashing taxi way/runway, no progressive taxi. And the weirdest one happened to my PMDG MD-11 where the landing lights somehow is cast about 100ft ahead of the aircraft and about 50ft to the right. Going back to DX9 didn't fix this. Tried uninstalling and reinstall but the lights were still messed up. I had to uninstall fsx and all my add ons and reinstall. That's why I'm a little scared about trying DX10 again. If there is a way to solve all those issues, I'd love to fly in DX10. But until then, I think I'll have to stick to DX9. The only DX10 fix that I'm aware of is the payware one that makes DX9 only aircrafts work in DX10. **edit** Oops, misread your post. I will check out the DX10 forum but I doubt I will try DX10 again until I find out what caused my PMDG MD-11 landing lights to shift position.
  10. Hi folks, I decided to try FSX again after 6 months of going back and forth between FSX and FS9. I still enjoy both and after doing the BP=0 tweak, I'm enjoying FSX a lot more than I did before. I followed the steps that David Roch posted on this forum but I'm still a little confused about VSync. He said to turn it off in nHancer or Inspector but didn't mention it can be turned on in the fsx cfg file by doing the ForceFullScreenVSync=1 tweak. Will the BP=0 tweak work if I enable VSync from the cfg? This were my settings before BP=0 fsx.cfg= only Highmemfix applied. AA, AF and VSync done in Inspector. This is after BP=0 fsx.cfg= Highmemfix, BP=0 AA and AF set in-game. I'm not really a fan of image tear but if that's what I have to put up with for the extra FPS I gained, then it's all good.
  11. Hey guys, I just activated my W&F. I'm able to move around the cockpit by following the key commands but I don't know how to get the "walking" outside to work. I read the instructions but I'm still confused. What I'm trying to do is get an outside view of my aircraft and be able to walk around it or just move around the airport while my plane is still parked. So kinda like being able to do a pre-flight walk around. How can I get this to work? Any help greatly appreciated.
  12. Thank you for the help everyone. I'm going to update my video card driver when I get the time. Pretty weird, I kept checking other videos on youtube and the image tearing happens on some videos while others are alright. Quraisy!, Thanks. Yeah, I switched mainly for performance. I don't think my rig like FSX very much. If I were to fly a PMDG or any other aircraft more complicated than default, you can forget KJFK, KLAS, KSEA, etc. It would stutter pretty bad even with only 40% ai traffic from UT2 and autogen at normal. The hiccups in fps that happen randomly on my system with fsx is quite annoying as well. I've tried all kinds of tweaks but was never fully satisfied. With FS9, I can have ai traffic at 100% with add on airports, clouds, etc and still maintain silky smooth performance. With Ultimate Terrain, REX, GEP, etc installed, I don't feel I'm missing anything. I'm also a big fan of CLS "lite" aircrafts and most of them have annoying visual glitches like very dark cockpit windows and weird shiny textures when installed in fsx but work perfectly in FS9. Glad to hear you're enjoying FSX. When FSX is running properly, it's amazing. I hope to enjoy it again sometime in the future when I get a very powerful PC, but that won't be for a looong time lol. WingZ, Thanks. I used the Overland 737 which doesn't have the highest polygon count. I'll be using higher quality models in my future videos. The bumps are actually from Active Camera with default settings. Phlux, Thanks mate :-). Psolk, I'll check it out. I"m thinking of just re-installing the drivers or update to the most recent one. Thanks.
  13. Hi folks, I uploaded my first FS9 vid on youtube but for some reason when I watch it on youtube, there is screen tearing. I used FSRecorder, Fraps and Windows Movie Maker. There is no screen tearing issue on my Fraps captures and the final video after editing on WMM. I don't understand why it's showing up on youtube. The final vid is running at 24fps which is also my Fraps setting. I never had this problem with making FSX movies. Anybody have an idea? Here's the vid if anybody wants to see... If you don't see any tearing, please let me know. I'm hoping it's just my browser (Firefox).
  14. For bloom/lighting, there is ENB, Sweet FX, and FXAA. All freeware. With the right settings, I prefer Sweet FX. I switched to FS9 back in the summer and haven't touched FSX since then. It's very possible to get FS9 to look very close or better than FSX but it requires payware stuff. For 3D night lighting, the UT series for FS9 is superior to the one on FSX. The only things I find that FSX is better at is the higher resolution ground textures and higher polygon count.
  15. Try using Alt+Enter only to exit full screen. When you're ready to go back to FS9, click anywhere on the FS9 window and press Alt+Enter again. Don't know about your system, but on mine, if I minimize FS9, most of the time I can't get it back and have to right click the icon on the task bar and close it.
  16. Aaah. I finally got it. It didn't work when I ran the replay right after recording while the sim was on pause in mid-air. I have to exit first, re-load the flight and then run the replay. As for the AI not showing. I had forgotten to check "record AI". I thought I did but was confused because I was comparing my FSX FSRecorder settings to the one I have on FS9. Thanks for sharing the vid, Kevin. That was a great landing. Love the intro lol.
  17. Aargh! Nevermind guys. I think I"ll have to take this to the FSRecorder forum. Did another test and it didn't record ai traffic even though I had it checked. Also didn't record my flaps and other things.
  18. Just wondering how you guys have your FSRecorder and FS9 fps settings. I'm looking to get the best frame rates but I'm not sure if I have my configuration right. Is it best to set FSRecorder to record "per frame" or "1/4sec, 1/8sec, etc"? Also, where do you have your fps setting within FS9? I have Fraps set to record at 24fps because the Windows Movie Maker I use renders HD captures in 24fps. If I change it to anything else I get some bad stutters. I've done a few tests so far. Test #1: (FS9 set to 24fps/FSRecorder to capture per frame). Result: Only smooth when things are moving slow. Test #2: (FS9 set to unlimited fps/FSRecorder to capture per frame). Result: Smooth all around and looks like it's the best one so far. The thing is, if I'm using FSRecorder set to frame, do I have to do my recording and playback at the same fps setting on FS9? So record at unlimited fps and playback at unlimited while capturing with Fraps? I get some bad in-game stutters while recording in unlimited frames but the playback/Fraps capture is smooth. Is it ok to record at 60fps (set in FS9) and playback at unlimited? I prefer to fly at 60fps while recording with FSRecorder. When I set my FS9 to 60fps, I get silky smooth fps which makes flying a lot easier than having it set to unlimited with fps spiking.
  19. Quraisy!, Thanks for the link. I will definitely be getting some stuff from there as I build up my sceneries for Indonesia. Got a question for those of you who already have the BDO Bali airport. I downloaded it but the instructions is not very clear or maybe I'm doing something wrong. Here's what it says... Installation : - Copy extraction of file to "Flight simulator 9\addon scenery" - copy "AP978350.BGL" to "Flight Simulator 9\Scenery\Asia\scenery" (don't forget to backup the original file) - Activate the scenery on your scenery library - enjoy your flight Well, after extraction, I ended up with two folders plus the readme file. I got the texture and scenery folders. Do I place both of them into the FS9/addon scenery folder? Also, I can't find the AP978350.BGL file. Can anyone who have this installed tell me how you were able to do it? I already installed the Biak airport and it was very easy because it came with an installer. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
  20. I'm perfectly fine with how it's going right now but I will probably try to adjust the brakes in the aircraft cfg, just to see how it goes. I'm just a little worried that the brakes will become too strong all the time (landing, taxiing, etc).
  21. Sorry to hear you're still experiencing the problem there, Harald. Did you download a fresh one? I'm pretty sure I downloaded mine from the US server. I fly in full screen but when I checked it also works fine in windowed mode. If you can't get this one to work, you might want to try FXAA. It's similar to this one and ENB.
  22. Not sure. But you might want to try re-installing by letting the application install the scenery into the FS9 folder. As far as I know, my payware add ons tell me to let it install into the main FS9 folder. If you do that, I think you have to delete the ones you placed into FS9 manually first. Might want to wait until someone who knows more than me chimes in. Good to know they include an installer.
  23. Sorry, I have no experience with that particular add on, but just wondering if you've thought about trying out the Ultimate Terrain series for landclass instead? It's not global but does cover the Americas and Europe. The night lighting is amazing too.
  24. Oh my. I just visited their site and saw all the freeware add ons. Can't wait to Install Bali. Are their freeware stuff easy to install? Do they come with an automatic installer?
