  1. I don't think there would be a difference with FS9. However, if the 24 bit selection does "up sampling", you should hear a slight improvement depending on the sound quality from FS9, your add ons, and your audio system. I've never looked into the Win7 sound options but I don't think it does up sampling. Reason you won't hear a difference is because the sound on FS9 is 16-bit. The 24-bit selection in Win7 will process it as 16-bit. 24-bit usually means, it can process 24-bit signals if you feed it a 24-bit content. FS9 comes on CD which can only have a maximum of 16-bit. It's just like your LCD, LED, Plasma displays. They're 1080p native resolution, but if the content is 720p, you'll get 720p and not 1080p. If you're getting a smoother experience with the 16-bit selection, probably better to keep using it. I'm guessing the 16-bit and 24-bit are separate applications in Win7 and the 16-bit application uses less processing. btw, I'm also running Win7. Where did you find the selection? I've set up my audio, but I've never seen this option. I want to make sure mine is set to 16.
  2. If cockpit realism is more important to you than external model, you might want to look at the Zinertek Level D 767 HD cockpit upgrade. I don't know how to merge models, I'm sure someone will chime in on that.
  3. Ouch! Major bummer for me since I fly heavies :( . Thanks Molleh.
  4. Hi guys, I did a search for disabling head momentum. I followed the instructions but can't get it to work. So far I've changed all values in the cfg under [Dynamic Head Movement] to 0, and in the cameras cfg, I have Head Momentum set to No. When I taxi and make a sharp turn, the pilot's head position would still shift and remain there until I do my next turn. Anybody know how to stop this? Thanks
  5. You've gotten some great advice. It will cost you a bit to bump up the graphic quality. The main ones have already been mentioned like GEP, UT, Zinertek water, etc. If you enjoy UT night lighting in FSX, the FS9 version is much better imo. So many more points of light when all type of streets are activated. Only downside is autogen is reduced by a lot, but scenery complexity like land marks remain. As for airliners, I highly recommend the Dreamfleet 727 and PMDG MD-11. hc606me, What you describe is a problem with FSX visibility. To get what you're looking for in FS9, pick the type of weather you want, click ok. Then go back to the weather menu again, click on advanced weather settings and change visibility and height to what you want. Unlike FSX, FS9 can only do a single visibility layer. What I do most of the time is set 30mi visibility up to 10, 000ft. After I pas 10, 000ft, the visibility layer will remain below me and everything upwards is clear. I'm not sure how Active Sky handle this. I haven't used ASE for the past few months because I've been doing easy casual flights using default weather the way I described above with weather rate of change set to moderate. My guess is that if AS has downloaded two layers like 30mi up to 9000ft and 60mi at 9000 and up, everything after 9000 will be 60mi. You won't have a 30mi layer underneath because FS9 can only do a single layer. Basically, you only get one lower visibility layer and everything out of that range will be unlimited, unless you're using Active Sky where it will continue to change your visibility. This is why the settings I mentioned above using default weather works. Because you'll get your lower layer to stay below you, but above that will be unlimited.
  6. Something I've noticed for a while now. I find that the pilot's head position is slightly to the right. Is it the same for you guys too? What I mean is, when I look straight down in the VC, the pilot's head is not perfectly centered with the yoke. It's slightly to the right. I checked out some youtube vidoes of people flying in the VC and I've seen some where it's centered and some slightly right like mine. Weird....
  7. Sorry about that. Here it is.... The lines I changed were on Color Correction and Bloom. I'm posting the whole sections instead of individual lines because I honestly can't remember which exact lines I changed from there other than bumping color saturation to 2.. I did this last week. I'm not sure if SSAO, Input and Perpixellighting are the same for everyone, and I don't know if they have any effect when only bloom is activiated. So if things look too weird, you guys can try copying and pasting the entire settings from my previous post after making a backup of your current settings. 8. Hey guys, I started messing with another enb setting and got some very nice results. It was originally for FSX that I found somewhere on the web and I decided to try it on FS9. It looked quite nice at first. Then I changed a few lines and it makes my FS9 look stunning. It gives a natural haze and soft focus effect. I absolutely love the look during dusk and dawn, especially with UT night lighting enabled for dusk. It looks just as nice during the day too. Since we're discussing ways to improve our FS9 world, I thought I'd share it. If anybody wants to try, here it is... 9. Even though the green light comes on, do you hear the cd spinning in the drive? Maybe the motor burned out? You can also try going into your FS2004 main folder and try to open it using the FS9 icon.
  10. Like Ematheson suggested, try running in windowed mode to access the PMDG menu, and when you're done, press Alt+Enter to get back to full screen. Just a thought. I've never had any issues using the top menu bar.
  11. Mitch, Thanks. I agree. I also like the way FS9 does visibility a lot. I used the fair weather theme on the video and changed visibility to 30mi. The view has some zoom already, so there was more sharp texture not being shown. Yeah, it would be one hell of a sim if we could get sharp textures everywhere. But for airliners, I don't think I'm really missing much at all. With payware airports, there is always some sharp textures around the scenery, so by the time you're flying low on final, you're very close to the upgraded textures and the transition from low to high res is very nice like Aerosoft's Ibiza. Billy, Thanks. I used REX (standard), Zinertek Water, GE Pro II, Ultimate Terrain Europe and Aerosoft Madrid Barajas. +1 Doesn't matter if PMDG is releasing their next aircraft after the 777. I'll still be flying FS9 and the PSS 777 if I want to fly that plane. There is no final nail to the coffin for us FS9'ers. Scenery and textures (payware/freeware) are still being released for FS9 too. I also have FSX installed and I'm in no rush to get the NGX or 777 when it comes out. Long live FS9!
  12. Dillon, LOL, I had to re-read that second part of your post. I will be adding Contrails Pro on my list along with Zinertek Airport environment for my next purchase. Looking forward to the improvement. Jon, I'm gonna have to throw in the towel on this. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. There was no need to for me to take off and look for exact tiles at certain altitudes. The blurries was very apparent no matter where I flew before changing the cfg values, especially on the night textures. If it was placebo, it had to be one hell of a placebo effect because the clear changes I saw was enough to make me stop flying FSX and use FS9.
  13. I know you've asked for pics, but I don't have any fs9 pics at the moment. I just remembered my FS9 video I posted on youtube. Try it on 1080p full screen. Keep in mind that the image quality has been reduced due to video compression after Fraps. This is with the cfg tweaks. Without it, around 4-5000ft, there would be a blocky/blurry mess close to the aircraft. The tweak extends the border where the blurries begin and gives a very gradual soft focus as the distance increase. Pretty much the equivalent to setting LOD radius in FSX to medium. The only graphical mod I'm using on this is SweetFX with only Technicolor enabled. Also, the head location for this wing view is on the captain's seat and facing the rear to the wings. So there is quite a bit of zoom already in this video capture. There is a lot more sharp texture not being shown.
  14. Jon, I agree with Dillon here. The visual change is very noticeable and not placebo at all. In fact, before the changes, I couldn't stand the blurries in FS9 and stuck with FSX. Only after applying those changes was I able to enjoy FS9 and be able to use it as my main sim and put FSX aside. Both FSX and FS9 respond very well to cfg changes that improve the sim. I'm not sure which FS9 tweaker you're talking about, but if you want to see a change in-game after adjusting a value in the cfg file, change Pan Rate to 999. Get into the VC and look around with your hat switch. Even a person who isn't into flight simulation would notice the drastic change in speed while panning. I've never heard anyone say that adjusting the cfg doesn't do anything and is purely placebo. Other than the 4 lines mentioned already, I have also changed my pan rate and disabled in-game texts using the cfg. I really don't know why you don't get any difference after adjusting your cfg file.
  15. If you're using real weather like ASE, I think you should be able to get better performance in heavy cloud situations if you're running HD clouds like REX. If I set my clouds to HD and there is some serious weather, I get a lot of fps drop and I can hear the GPU fan work a lot harder. With DXT compressed 512x512 clouds, I don't have this problem at all. So I'm thinking the GPU handle clouds in FS9. Just a thought. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm using a GTX560
  16. Have you tried to re-install or download a fresh one. Maybe there's a possibility the download got corrupted or the installation didn't go 100%? Hopefully someone who knows about scenery settings and cfg can help out.
  17. Hi Mitch, So glad it worked out for you. Like you, I also get horrible blurries with the default settings (I think it's 4). I started with FSX, and when I got FS9, I went back and forth a few times. The thing that I really didn't like about FS9 before changing those 4 lines was the blurries. After my initial climb I'd get horrible looking blurry textures. Night time textures were really bad when blurred. It was like flying with psychedelic vision. Then I found those tweaks on a forum (can't remember which one), I applied them, and it's bye bye FSX. I finally got sharp textures that extend farther out and it has that "soft focus" look you described. Happy flying  I'm happy to see that a few other members got improvements with the tweaks. This thread is great with a lot of information on tweaks and add ons. There's got to be more. Let's keep it going.
  18. Try this... TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1 TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.000000 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.900000 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4
  19. There will always be blurries far away from you, even in FSX. But it shouldn't be as close as a few miles like you described. The blurries should be far off in the distance after take off. Using Anisotropic and editing the cfg won't eliminate blurries, it just pushes them way out. Well I guess I was looking at it from an FS9er point of view. It is considered one of the best airliner add on for FS9. My mistake.
  20. You set in-game filtering at Trilinear. Then go to your FS9 profile in Nvidia Inspector, set filtering to "user defined/off", Anisotropic Filtering Setting to "16X", Texture Filtering Negative LOD Bias to "Clamp" and Quality to "High Quality". You can google or do a search on this forum for NI settings with screenshots. That should make it easier. You'll also get superior AA if you disable it in FS9 and use NI instead. You also want to make sure you have these settings in your FS9 cfg file under [Terrain]: TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1 TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=9.000000 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=9.900000 TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=4
  21. There is an excellent alternative, the iFly. Do you have anisotropic filtering enabled on your video card? What you described happens to me if I run it on Trilinear without anisotropic on the GPU. There is also the three terrain extend settings in the cfg.
  22. Wow! Just took a look at it on simmarket. The buildings look fantastic, especially at night. I will be getting this. Thanks Dillon. As for Zinertek water.. I have to agree. It's way better than default and I much prefer it over REX water. FS9 water will pulsate when set to max, but Zinertek shows minimal pulsation compared to REX. The reflections on REX water drives me nuts. Zinertek all the way! H2O water looks pretty interesting. I may give that one a shot too.
  23. Thanks Peter. I will check out your guide. I also have instructions from a few members a while back on doing this. I'll give them a try. Thanks again.
