  1. It hung about 20 minutes after takeoff. I was able to get it going again but then hung again in cruise. Each time I had left the computer and came back to find a frozen screen. In other words, I was not making any control, keyboard, or mouse inputs at the time. Thanks for the quick response I'm beginning to suspect the weather engine within REX if anyone else has experience with this.

  3. I would certainly agree that there is a huge mismatch between CPU and GPU evolution. With that said, using a program like REX, PMDG NGX, and ORBX in a demanding scenario, especially in a multi monitor setup, with your IQ settings cranked will hammer almost any GPU. My EVGA 670FTW is not happy in this scenario as evidenced by flashing, artifacts, shimmering, etc. Regards
  4. Well, perhaps I wasn't using the right "wordage". I would never suggest that increasing CPU clock speed would hamper FSX regardless of the GPU employed. All I was suggesting was that there comes a point (especially if using the bufferpools tweak), the GPU will become the bottleneck if not able to handle the rendering tasks being thrown at it by a fast CPU. Kindest regards
  5. System balance is the key. The GTX 460 running with an older generation I7 at 3 ghz is an appropriate combo. Your bottleneck here is the CPU. Pairing the GTX 460 with a 2600K running at 4.7 ghz will bring that 460 to its knees. There is a big misconception about the importance of the GPU and I've seen countless posts of people dropping a powerful later generation GPU into their rigs and not seeing the performance (FPS) increase they want. I once built an AMD based rig and then placed 2 ATI cards in a crossfire (SLI) configuration thinking I had it made and got a nasty surprise. Regards.
  6. This is my experience as well. I'm glad you said something because my head was beginning to spin. I, like countless others had been running UIAutomationcore version 6.0.5840.16386 and it worked fine until my latest build. I started getting menu crashes again. Installed version 6.0.6001.18000 and no more menu crashes. I did suffer a CTD last week after installing the PMDG 777 and NGX 600/700 upgrade and a re instal of REX. Had outdated Microsoft visuals and my Virtual memory paging file settings in both C and F drives were improperly set. I was positive I had them set to application managed but they weren't. As the the app crash I experienced was most likely memory related, I think I found the culprit. Will look at my UIAutomationcore version again having read this thread. This is one of the most fascinating threads I've read in a while and very enlightening. The menu crash problem is one of the only ones that is 100% replicatable, at least on my PC. Right menu click 25-30 times and BAM!, an FSX freeze. And since it only usually occurred at the tail end of a flight while setting up for approach, it was frustrating to say the least. Never thought about other performance impacts related to this file. May have to do some more investigating. Kindest regards.
  7. Sounds like your GPU was the bottleneck in your system. I've owned the GTX480 and its a perfectly capable GPU for a platform running in the low 3 Ghz range. Its completely out of its league when running along side an overclocked I7, though. Regards and congrats
  8. REX and a 3rd party traffic program like traffic 360 can really hammer your FPS hard. I use both and I'm ok with 20-25 FPS on the ground with the T7. My FPS quickly shoots past 30 into the 40's after T/O, which very close to what I'm seeing in the NGX. I also have FTX Global running as well. Regards
  9. Well, I had been stuck in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mode. I updated the Microsoft visuals and went to check my virtual paging file settings which I thought were set at application managed. Neither drive was set correctly. As this was more than likely memory related, I think I found the culprit. Didn't find any duplicate dll xml entries in my FSX config file but did find a couple of unwanted ones from previous programs. Completed an identical flight to the one where I had my CTD with no issues and a couple more after that. Crossing my fingers. Thanks again
  10. Never had issues prior to installing REX but you've given me several avenues to explore before uninstalling. Was just looking for a decent weather engine. Will definitely look for a dublicate ntdll.dll file as I had just installed the PMDG T7 and the NGX 600/700 add on. Kindest regards and thanks again. Adam
  11. Downloaded App crash view. Cut and pasted per your advice. Not sure if its possible to view VAS usage in real time since this could be memory related.. Not sure if this format helps. Believe its probably related to REX. Was taking off from FlyTampa's KMDW in the NGX. This was my 2nd flight using REX. 12. Well, the title pretty much says it all. My hardware specs are posted. Its an event 1000 app error. Here are the details: fsx.exe 10.0.61637.0 46fadb14 ntdll.dll 6.1.7601.18229 51fb1072 c0000005 0002e41b 102c 01ceb619c7bb9c56 F:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll fb9fd9a1-2217-11e3-b1f7-08606ee78b3d Any ideas?? please help
  13. Just got the T7 a couple of days ago. Plan on adjusting it the next chance I get. Regards
  14. Hmm, interesting. I ran FSX with a heavily tweaked config file for a long time and erased it and allowed FSX to build a new one a couple of weeks ago. I then employed just 3 tweaks, HIGHMEMFIX, AFFINITYMASK, and WIDEVIEWASPECT. Left my NVIDIA inspector settings the same. My FPS improved by 3-4 FPS. I haven't adjusted the refresh rate on the T7 and am seeing performance on par with the NGX if not a little better. Regards
  15. The cooling performance of good air coolers such as the Noctua and CM Hyper 212 EVO are on par with closed loop budget water coolers like the Corsair H60/H80 series. There are numerous benchmarks out there verifying this. I've had both and switched back to air. De-lidding is almost mandatory if wanting to take your Ivy or Hazwell up to 5Ghz regardless of the cooling employed.Regards
  16. Definitely will try this. As has been noted, there may be a bigger impact visually on non PMDG aircraft.
  17. I was a mechanic on the JS41 and held a run/taxi certification on it for over 10 years. The PMDG JS41 comes very close to mimicking the look and feel of the aircraft. Our examples never had an FMC so I've never used it. Regards
  18. Turbo boost should be disabled for any overclock and yes, overclocking is the cheapest and most effective way to boost FSX performance. Regards
  19. It's one of the very few aircraft with a 4 eng tail mounted configuration, save perhaps the IL-62. Have 3rd party software for FS-9 of the VC-10. It's terrible, I realize, but it's out there. I've never seen one in person. I'm sure they were quite a sight. Kind regards
  20. I don't think Airbus will ever come close to recouping the initial development outlay with the 380. The 747-8 is at least an existing platform with comparatively modest development costs. I think both will give way to the wide body twinjets. Airbus though, has always been seen as jobs program of sorts by the EU so the financial success of the 380 may not matter as much in their eyes.
  21. I realize beauty doesn't always mimic function. I'm awe inspired by the 747. It must have been even more so in 1970 when it debuted more than doubling the MTOW of the 707.
  22. Well, wasn't being airline specific with the liveries. I just miss cheat lines I guess. The older liveries remind me of a time when people dressed up to go the airport and take a flight. I especially like the old American Airlines livery on the 727's. I always thought the VC-10 looked elegant. How many of us know what a VC-10 is LOL!
  23. So true. Born and raised in Iceland. Moved to the states when I was 13. It's a small world. Always thought the 757 was a beautiful bird. It would look even better sporting a 50's or early 60's livery. Regards
