  1. Yep! Isolation valve auto or open (usually auto). Make sure to switch off APU bleed after engine start to get rid of the dual bleed caution message seen in your pic. Regards
  2. I agree with above sentiment. My latest FSX dedicated PC build centered around a 3770K OC'd @ 4.5 Ghz and set up and tuned per NickN's bible finally got me as close as I've ever come to being satisfied with FSX performance. I'm able to stay above 20 FPS in almost every scenario at high graphics settings.I'm talking ORBX, FlyTampa, Aerosoft, Taxi2Gate scenery, + PMDG aircraft + REX generated clouds and weather. The rest of my specs are posted. Can finally pan around the cockpit in my NGX at a busy airport without stutters. I may have gotten lucky on my CPU but I was able to achieve my overclock with a $30 CM Hyper 212 EVO with two fans in a push pull arrangement. 4.5 Ghz seems to be the most common overclock ceiling for the Ivy Bridge and Hazwells without de-lidding. That's regardless of weather employing water or air cooling. Budget closed loop water coolers like the Corsair H60/H80 series are on par with good air coolers. Additionally, CPU temps during sim sessions should come nowhere near temps seen during bench marking. If able to stay below 80c while testing your overclock with Prime95, 3Dmark11 software etc, you should be fine. Regards and good luck
  3. Had both installed on the same HDD for years with no issues. As has been stated, FSX should be installed in its own file folder created by yourself, not the default X86 pathway. Windows can still be a "nanny" even with UAC and Windows Defender turned off. Furthermore, these features are often switched back on without your knowledge when performing Windows updates and other such tasks. Regards
  4. The Airbus 320 family represented a significant departure in design philosophy when it came out. Namely, it attempted to remove the pilot as the ultimate decision maker as to how the aircraft behaves. Pilots complained that the cockpit design and function deprived the pilot of important tactile and visual queues present in more conventional aircraft. This led to numerous "mode confusion" incidents and accidents with the aircraft when it first debuted. Even with the autopilot disengaged, the actions of the pilot can be countermanded by the AFCS if it doesn't agree with his or her actions. It didn't help that the French authorities went into complete denial over the issues raised and finally changed their thinking after Airbus chief pilot Nick Warner was killed on a test flight involving the A330 where mode confusion was cited as a primary cause. The 320 and the later 330/340 have gone on to become fine aircraft in subsequent years. Eastern Airlines 401 stands as the quintessential example of the adage " No matter what happens, fly the damn aircraft" Regards
  5. I'm sure to expose my bias here LOL! but I'm eagerly awaiting the upcoming free Iceland demo form ORBX which combines FTXG+LC+Vector+TerrainMesh to give people an Idea of the potential. I spent 13 years in Iceland and am very familiar with the landscape so this should be a real treat. Regards
  6. Default fsx textures are just dreadful. The installer advises you to back them up prior to instal so you can revert back if needed. I did extensive research and testing prior to purchase and am pleased overall. It has not conflicted with my airport payware and does a far better job than default fsx scenery, especially in Europe, Asia, and South America. My recent flight into MROC (San Jose, Costa Rica), where I had saved a screenshot using default fsx scenery prior to installing FTX Global, confirmed what a huge improvement it is. The upcoming region specific LC and Vector products should improve this even more. Regards
  7. I recently had to replace a GPU and found that NVIDIA inspector wouldn't work until I deleted and downloaded the latest version with my new card installed. My specs are posted. I can't get 20 FPS in every scenario with my 3770K OC'd @ 4.5 Ghz. Regards
  8. You could have been talking about me!! LOL! PMDG NGX in Southwest colors with FlyTampa's KMDW for good measure. Just not possible to do any serious flying in a default tubeliner I'm afraid. I do jump into the default Baron if wanting to fly by the needles but haven't in quite a while. Regards
  9. The well known and researched UiAutomation core dll. is very specific to right clicking on menus and very easy to replicate if its an issue with your setup. There are two versions out there the SP1 v16368 and SP1 v18000. I and many others had the v16386 installed with no issues. After my last build it wouldn't work and I installed v18000 which solved the issue. Others are running FSX without the said dll file at all in their fsx directory and are not seeing an issue. It seems that this is very specific depending on each individual hardware and software setup. There are about as many sloppy Windows instals out there as botched FSX instals. PMDG uses Microsoft Visuals C+++2008 (or 2005) Redistributables package to run its software and is the only fsx developer to do so as far as I know. Make sure its up to date and not corrupted. If you do get to the Oh %$%^$*!! I guess I'm re-installing FSX moment, Be sure to instal it in its own file folder created by yourself, not the default program/files/x86 one suggested by the installer. This will give you full control over your windows files. Windows will still attempt to be a nanny, even with Windows defender and all UAC controls switched off if installed in the default location. Good luck and regards.
  10. The NGX just suits my style of flying better. Relatively short stage lengths into smaller airports. I'll load up the T7 on a long haul flight before I go to bed and finish the flight in the morning. I only fly published air routes using the correct airline, aircraft, flight number etc. It just adds to the realism for me. I'm not sure if this is still the case but UAL used the T7 on the KDEN to KORD run. Its a fairly short flight if wanting to fly the T7 and not spend many hours in cruise while still maintaining some operational realism. I've been flying around the orient in my China Southern T7 freighter variant lately. Regards
  11. Many STARS such as MOTIF4 into KMDW dovetails neatly with the 4R approach into that airport. In real world operations, ATC will provide HDG, altitude, and airspeed instructions that often will deviate from the STAR being flown in the final descent stage. The vector legs of the STAR is used by ATC for sequencing purposes among other things. I usually don't connect the vector legs of the STAR to the transition unless I know for sure it works for the runway I'm shooting the approach into. Approach procedures can vary greatly from airport to airport based on a myriad of factors such as local traffic, weather, operational restrictions, terrain obstacles, etc. STARS are used for organizing traffic in busy air corridors, simplifying clearance delivery, and terrain avoidance in mountainous areas, among other things.Regards
  12. I've heard some good things about FS Commander but its not freeware. I use FlightAware in conjunction with Skyvector. It works very well for me. You can print all of your applicable STARS,SIDS, airport diagrams and approach plates free of charge. I'll disengage VNAV/LNAV usually around 30 miles out and below 10,000 and switch to VS/HDG mode to manage the rest of the approach and get the aircraft configured and in a position to intercept the localizer. Many people make the mistake of thinking that their chosen STAR will take them all the way to touchdown. In most cases, they will come in too high and too fast. Regards
  13. I tried unchecking the 3D Hi Def cockpit option to see what it would do. Didn't notice a big difference in any of my PMDG aircraft visually. My frames didn't increase appreciably either. I suspect there is something going on in the background that effects the mileage people are getting with this setting such as NVIDIA inspector settings and hardware setup. Regards
  14. As has been stated, FlightAware for real world flight routings or VataWare for international flying. Skyvector.com for obtaining SIDS,STARS, airport diagrams, and approach plates. All those sites are free of charge. Navigraph is invaluable for updating the nav data in your FMC for any of your applicable payware aircraft. I think one nav cycle costs around $5. Worth every penny. Regards
  15. Well, I'm back in business (I hope). After suffering inexplicable CTD,s and a couple of BSOD's, I finally ran a memtest confirming that one of my RAM modules was faulty. This was a fairly lengthy process involving testing each Module in the 1st memory slot by itself.I had to remove my aftermarket CPU heatsink and temporarily re instal the factory Intel one due to clearance issues. New RAM installed and tested. Everything including Window's 7 re installed updated and tweaked as per NickN's bible. Everything seems fine so far. This comes on the heels of a premature failure of my EVGA 670FTW GPU which was less than 6 months old. Can a brother catch a break already!! I left many of my payware addons uninstalled, including REX. Trying to keep only the aircraft I fly on a regular basis installed for now. Real world weather updates seem to be working now in FSX which is a big plus (This was one of the primary reasons I had REX installed). Thanks for taking the time to read my rambling post. Just had to vent for a bit LOL!
  16. Reverse thrust selection is a function of throttle lever position and WOW input, not N1 value. Can't comment on how the NGX is modelled but just wanted to put that out there. Flight idle N1 can approach 40% in certain conditions depending on such things as bleed configuration. Regards
  17. I have gotten the auto press fail mssg in the NGX. A pack or bleed trip is a comparatively common occurence in the actual aircraft. I believe you can set up the NGX with various failure scenarios. Maybe check your settings there. Regards
  18. Bear in mind that the 2 cards are in the same performance class, just different generations. A 560 vs say a 670, or a 680 would be a different story. Regards
  19. Thanks for the post. I was just about to write a post along similar lines until I saw yours. The insulation blanket material and kapton wiring was not unique to the MD-11. The fire was a result of a poorly executed 3rd party install of the in flight entertainment system. I make the Amsterdam to Tehran run in my KLM MD-11 on occasion. Regards
  20. I can't maintain 20 FPS in every scenario with my setup. The AffinityMask, HighMemFix, and the WideViewAspect tweaks are the only modifications I have to my config file (trust me I've tried them all). I don't use a frame limiter and have NVIDIA inspector settings per NickN's suggestions. My sim is buttery smooth, even at frames in the lower 20's. It's well known that road traffic is a substancial hit on frames when low and slow near an airport (the time you need all the FPS you can get). Light bloom also has a large impact. My specs are posted. Best regards
  21. I couldn't agree more. For real world actually flown air routes in the U.S, one need not look any further than Flightaware. Airport diagrams, approach plates, SIDS and STARS can all be obtained from Skyvector.com. Vataware is good for international flights. All those sites are free. In Flightaware, I'll simply type in a city pair search and it will pop up with all the previously flown flights for a given time period including the routing filed. I'll pick a flight flown by similar equipment to the one I'm using. Regards
  22. Well,LOL! these are all just educated guesses on my part as well. One of the main reasons I got REX was to get real weather. I suppose I might learn to accept running it in a weather theme mode of some sort. Had my sim running flawlessly for 8 months until I purchased and installed 2 PMDG products, REX, and FTXG. I downloaded an app hang utility that may shed some light on the situation should it occur again. The performance of the sim overall in terms of visuals, smoothness, FPS are the best I've managed in 15+ years of simming. I did find some fundamental flaws in my basic setup though, that I had assumed was correctly set such as my virtual paging file allocation settings so not all has been in vein. No longer suffering the memory related CTD I experienced so that's a plus. I've been loathe to pile too much on to the FSX platform layer cake precisely for stability reasons. Regards and thanks as always for your input and advice.
  23. Update! after 4 attempts to complete the KMDW to KORF run in my NGX 700, I was successful after disabling the WX Download feature in REX. This prevents the wx engine from accessing the internet during the sim session, although it still will access it on initial start up. Not declaring this fixed yet. Need to test some more. Regards
  24. Downloaded said utility and will report back. Thanks for the info. Regards
  25. Thanks for your response. I've never had an issue with my network. It is a WiFi network and its not a client computer. I've never encountered this issue prior to installing REX. I suspect it has something to do with the weather engine auto updating. The computer is only 8 months old but will make sure all my drivers are up to date. I'm loading the exact same flight every time to make it easier to nail this problem down. Will perform the flight without REX running and report back. Best regards
