    Hi

Your laptop is a Ryzen 7 with a Radeon RX Vega 10

try using window mode and locks fps at 30 and this can help you:

Tips (FSX settings) possible FPS or performance killer // Crash to destop (CTD):

    Ai traffic

    water effects

    bloom

    High resolution textures

(use 1024x1024) (Global texture resolution must be adjusted to achieve 1024x1024 textures, in FSX SE it coincides with two positions before everything on the right.)

    default DX10 doesnt work

DX10 can help a lot to avoid a CTD but only with the DX10SF payment tool, it will reduce the VAS used, although it is not necessary if you use balanced settings in DX9.

    FSX VAS:

I also recommend monitoring your VAS with FSUIPC4 tool, click on the logging tab and enter 024c in offset position and type select S32. And finally click on fs title bar.

Another trick to using FSX is that by default it has a full-screen memory leak so it is mandatory to use window mode.

High Autogen and complex secenery settings

    High density and draw clouds

    Hi

FS2004 was and is a great simulator, however, the vast majority of better add ons are no longer for sale for example:

    Flight1 ATR-72

    PMDG MD-11

    Fly The Maddog MD80

You can still get a few add ons in the online stores but in most cases they are not the best:

    PC Aviator

    Simmarket

    Flight1

remember that there are also many good quality freewares, here you go:

ENVTEX and Full Environment 9 by TOGA Projects

Also remember to update the navigation database with aerosors.

The only add on that I can recommend and that is still under development is:

PF3 - ATC FOR FSX P3D MSFS FS2004 by Oncourse software.

    Regards and Happy New Year

    Hi

Your PC can run FSX SE.

FSX SE is a simulator that relies heavily on CPU power and very little on GPU.

Your CPU, an i3-9100F, has a power equivalent to an i5-7600K, its single-core performance is very similar.

    https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i3-9100F-vs-Intel-i5-7600K/3461vs2919

Regarding the gpu, FSX works best with nvidia gpus, but you won't have any problems as long as you use discrete graphics settings and use full HD resolution, but I recommend you look for information about AMD GPUs in FSX.

I just recommend you to get a SSD disk of at least 240Gb for FSX SE exclusive use and a CPU cooler such as the cooler master 212, as long as your cpu exceeds a temperature of 70ºC.

I advise you to read the following to configure FSX:

    Hi

At this time, for a 1080p monitor, I don't think you need an RTX30XX, the GTX1080TI is still a very good option.

I leave you here some reviews about the RTX3060TI, 3070 and 3080.

the performance difference between your 1080ti and each of these gpus is:

    1080ti vs 3060ti: +15%.    https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3060-ti-founders-edition/

    1080ti vs 3070: +23%.     https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3070-founders-edition/

    1080ti vs 3080: +33%.     https://www.techpowerup.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080-founders-edition/

Also the prices of the RTX30XX are too inflated and there is little stock in the stores, it is not a good time to buy, hopefully in spring the situation will change.

I did understand the B737-200C is not moving forward because of the lack of an FMS in MFS2020.  Milviz said is may be possible to build the 737 with  a VOR system, but, who wants that?  Not me.  Disappointing.

    Ray

    a little offtopic

you can use the Milviz 732c in combination with the add on ISG1's panels

For example, combine a Honeywell's GNS-XLS FMS with a small EFS50_EHSI very similar to what you see in this video.

Anyway, I assure you that flying conventional IFR, that is, with VOR/DME is quite entertaining.

Now it's actually working very fine on 30 fps, all paware scenarios are disabled. I'm getting like very nice 20-30 fps inside the PMDG 777 X (the fps killer). I just completed a flight from KSFO to RJTT and it was very fine.

Tried to disable turboboost, it made things worse because without the TB the cpu speed decreased to 2.5 GHz instead 3.1 as usual with it enabled, so it's not a good point.

I'm also planning to get a ryzen 3100 with a gtx 1660ti and 8gb of ddr 4 ram. Hope that's gonna do fine of performance to this old fsx (happy 14th XD).

Thank you everyone for help, seems the issues are done until now. Also got AC 4 black flag, running very nice on low-med settings on this office laptop.

    @RAdE0nEXE

Great!!!, I told him the more add ons the worse the performance.

On the other hand, you may want to try it in the fsx.cfg:

    Fiber_Frame_Time_Fraction=0.33

you must add it under ''Main'' Section, by default its value is 0.33 .

A value of 0.33 offers a clear scenario, but less fps.

values farther away and lower than 0.33, for example, 0.01, 0.13, 0.26, etc... offer a more blurry scenario but improve the fps.

You may get extra performance by adding it. I suggest you read the AVSIM guide for FSX settings: https://www.avsim.com/files/file/41-avsim-basic-fsx-configuration-guide/

In relation to the PC, ryzen 3 3100 is also a good choice, but it seems to slow down the performance in games, better option would be ryzen 3 3300X for a little more money, as long as it is for 1080p, to get the best performance combine it with DDR4 3200mhz ram memory.

I leave you information of both:

Finally, the GTX1660Ti is a very good option, if you do not get it, the GTX1660 Super has the same performance.

1.- The problem isn't solved at all.

2.- If I get FSX SE or p3d v2 my addons for FSX SP2 will work?

3.- Or what computer I really need for this old word not allowed fsx?

An i3 9100F and gtx 1650 will be enough?

1.- then you need a desktop PC
By the way, to be ruled out: have you checked your laptop for viruses?
On the other hand, if you use an antivirus, have you tried disabling it while using FSX? Maybe it will free up the cpu.

I recommend a clean installation of fsx

2.- Almost all FSX SP2 add-ons work in FSX SE, except for a few.

I do not guarantee that your add ons work in P3Dv2, anyway you are who knows what add ons you have, check in the shop where you bought them if they are compatible with P3Dv2.

However, flying P3Dv2 doesn't have much meaning anymore, except for V4 or V5.

3.- You need an economical desktop PC and buy FSX SE, so you can forget about many problems.

    You need at least:

    a) an Intel CPU with at least 4 physical cores and 8 threads, with HT, with turbo boost and with a high base frequency, For example: i3-10100F

    b) A fan for the CPU, (if the CPU box does not have a standard one) For example: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO V2

    c) A cpu-compatible MOBO, for example a basic H410

    d) 2x4GB DDR4 2666MHZ CL16

    e) 1 SSD SATA3 of 120Gb for W10 or other programs

    f) 1 HDD of 1TB 7200rpm for FSX SE

    g) 1 gtx1650 gddr6 4gb so that you are not limited with other games or applications.

    h) a generic PSU 450W-500W 80+ Standad

    i) A micro ATX or ATX format box with at least two fans

This could be an economic proposal of around 400 euros without taxes, flight simulation is an expensive hobby.

    Hello

1º FSX is a simulator dependent on the cpu, uses much the cpu and very little the gpu, it is normal that FSX uses little gpu and other games use it much, it is normal that a cpu is stressed and other relaxed, so is FSX.

2º The minimum or recommended requirements of FSX are not real, believe me. Using FSX in a low performance laptop will limit you a lot, it is normal, it is highly recommended to use a desktop pc.

You must be consistent with the characteristics of your laptop, you can't have all the settings at maximum or all active.

3º The more add ons you use in FSX the less FPS you will get.

4º The more payware scenarios you have activated in the library of scenarios the less fps you will get, you just need to have only active the scenario of the airport of departure and arrival.

5º With DX10 you don't get better performance, you get better image sharpness, better graphics. With DX9 you will get better fps, believe me.

6º FSX Steam edition, includes improvements that make FSX more compatible with today's equipment.

7º FTX Vector drastically reduces the performance and therefore the fps, I recommend not to use it

    What I recommend:

    1.- OPTION

1º Use MSI Afterburner with rivatuner. In rivatuner there is an option to block the fps, you block the fps to 20 and of course monitor them thanks to MSI afterburner while you play.

    https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afterburner-beta-download.html

2º Deactivate all payware scenarios in the scenario library, leave only the default ones active in FSX.

3º In settings, put all settings to the left and set a target frame rate of 21 fps.

bloom, AI traffic, high density clouds, high cloud draw, high water effect, high Level of detail, shadows, high mesh complex and resolution, high special effects, high scenery complexity and high autogen are the settings that most degrade the performance in FSX.

4º Make a long test flight with a default FSX plane, not payware, and check if it maintains 20 fps throughout the flight, from takeoff to landing, of course observe through MSI afterburner how your laptop behaves, make this same test with both dx10 and dx9.

5º If you manage to keep the 20 fps, go up gradually the fsx settings but keep using only default planes/scenarios. but never exceed this:

    bloom off
    shadows off
    LOD: Medium
    Mesh complexity: 30%
    Mesh resolution: 76m
    Texture resolution: 1m
    water effect: off
    scenery complexity: dense
    autogen density: none
    ground scenery shadows: off
    special effects: off
    Cloud draw distance: 60nm
    detail clouds: medium
    ai traffic: off

It is now that you must adapt the FSX settings to your laptop to constantly achieve at least 20fps.

If you get those 20 fps you go adding add ons little by little, but not in excess, for example using at the same time at most, departure and arrival airport scenario, global ftx and an airplane payware.

    2.- OPTION

1.- Uninstall all your add ons and FSX SP2, remove any rest from the previous installation, make sure to search program data, appdata, program files, in C/: ..... etc, a clean installation of FSX.
Use ccleaner to clean the registry as well.

2.- repeat the previous steps of option 1

    Hello

Firstly FSX, FSX SE and its evolution, P3D, are mainly simulators more dependent on cpu than gpu.

On the other hand, you must adapt P3D to the characteristics of your PC, you cannot demand ultra graphics when you don't have a powerful PC, you must look for adjustments consistent with the characteristics of your PC.

Settings that cause loss of performance or may end up in a CTD are a high value of:

ai traffic, water effects, bloom, High resolution textures(2048 or 4096), high autogen and complex scenery settings, high density and draw clouds..... etc.

In addition, the use of add ons in P3D reduces performance, whether if you use payware airplanes / sceneries.

On the other hand, you have low performance in P3D because your PC has a low-powered GPU, is too old and uses a very slow memory for graphics, the DDR3, when today is used GDDR5 or GDDR6, but also, in the case of flight simulation is advisable not to use or not buy PCs like LENOVO, HP.... etc, because they are not optimized for flight simulation.

    Therefore, you have two options:

1.- the cheap option, to improve your pc

If you don't feel like spending a lot of money, and using some medium to high settings with some add ons, you can get a good result if:

    a) You update your GPU:

I understand that you use a 1920x1080 (Full HD) monitor.

Your motherboard has a micro ATX format, therefore, I suspect that you don't have much space inside your PC, so, you need an ITX format GPU, that is, a small GPU, but more powerful than the one you have right now, I also suspect that your PC uses a generic 500W PSU without PCI express output cable, so the viable and cheap option to resurrect your PC to use P3D would be a GTX1650 (NOT SUPER model)

Of course, this GPU will be far top to what you have right now.

I leave you here information about it and some reference models:

    https://videocardz.net/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1650

    https://www.techpowerup.com/review/palit-geforce-gtx-1650-stormx/

    https://www.techpowerup.com/review/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1650-oc-gddr6/

take into account the interior dimensions of your pc to know if the gpu is going to fit inside, it is very important

    b) buy a SATA 3 1TB SSD for exclusively P3D, this will help to load quickly the textures and of course P3D.

2.- The expensive option to buy a PC optimized for flight simulation

that mounted equipment you are looking at, is not bad, but if you have the option to change some components, I would change:

1.- Replace the 2tb HDD by two 1TB M2 SSDs, it doesn't make sense to use HDD anymore

2.- Replace the 16gb ddr4 2666mhz of ram by 16gb ddr4 3200mhz, but if you have your mind on MFS, 32GB ddr4 3200mhz would be better.

3.- Replace the PSU with a better one, for example the Corsair TX750M 80+ Gold 750W or the RM750 80+ gold.

of the three changes, the most important change would be from HDDs to SSDs

I would recommend you to learn how to design your pc, it is not very complicated, you just need to read and search, maybe you will be able to create the pc you like and for a lower price.

Here are some websites that can help you:

Thanks, Mark. I've read this thread. The funny thing is that the first reply is from someone who did the very thing I want to avoid: give up on DX10 and go back to DX9.

Anyway, I saw two or three things different between the OP's system and mine (apart from the OS). I tried playing with TextureMaxLoad, going unlocked in FSX and even setting TBM to 320 (instead of FSX-SE default 160). However nothing worked at all. No matter what I do, I'm getting the same result. Looks like my settings for AF are honored in DX9, but are being ignored in DX10. I mean, the pictures I posted look like the first photo in the Wikipedia page about AF! I'm puzzled 😢

If you want to see very sharp ground textures, without blurries, I recommend the following:

1º Use a high FFTF value. The default is 0.33 and you should not use higher values. The higher this value is the faster the loading of textures into the simulator but, it can cause stuttering or lowering of fps, loss of performance.

    [MAIN]

    FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.33

2º FSX uses by default a value of TextureMaxLoad=6, this line helps to prevent blurred textures, try to use a value of 12 or 30, (the values to use are multiples of 3: (3,6,9,12....) But it can cause stutters.

    [DISPLAY]

    TextureMaxLoad=30

3º I seem to remember that Sparse Grid Supersampling in Nvidia inspector causes blurred textures, instead of using SGSAA, use the new CFAS.

4º Use cabin view or exterior views from ''fixed cameras'', the ''exterior view and/or exploration'' allows blurries to be seen easily, with the others this does not happen.

5º Also playing with the zoom view helps.

keep in mind that with FSX you can not have everything, something must be sacrificed, must be consistent with the characteristics of your pc.

  11. @mslim

    Hello

Your PC isn't old, it's still good, I recommend the following:

If you want to get better performance on the scenery load use an M2 SSD , which have higher speed than SATA SSD , minimum 1TB. However, if your MOBO doesn't support M2 SSD, use a SATA SSD.

And also use an exclusive SSD for flight simulation or P3D, do not share it with other applications, ie, word, excel, w10 etc ...

On the other hand, I think P3D will take better advantage of the RAM if you use a dual channel configuration 2x8Gb= 16GB, instead of 4x4Gb.

The performance increase of 4x4Gb over 2x8Gb will not be important, you get better results with 2x8Gb.

And make sure that the ram is compatible with your MOBO and CPU, check the QVL of your MOBO.

I think you're going to need a bigger budget.

It is rare, maybe the problem is that the installation of W7 was not completed successfully or that something else is missing to install.

I recommend that you download W10, without activating, from the official Microsoft website, you can use it without problems except that a watermark will appear on the screen, then install fs9 and fsx

Please note that W10 version 2004 will be released shortly and will not be compatible with 32-bit systems, I don't know if yours is 32 or 64 bit.

Another recommendation before doing anything is to use the program "cristal disk info" this program checks the health of your hard drives, maybe your hard drives have some damage and that's why there are problems, I don't know. https://crystalmark.info/en/
