  1. This is the plane I use the most for my FSEconomy flights. Flying it is a real pleasure.
  2. I'm currently running X-plane 10 with complete HD Mesh v2, SkyMaxx and no photo sceneries. I run a creaking i5 750 and a GTX 460v2 1Gb. I get between 20-30(locked) with my setting. Really quite pleased. I check my system everytime I run X-plane with the excellent Process Explorer from Microsoft (SysInternals: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-gb/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx). I found that the bottleneck for me is my Gfx card. The poor thing is maxed out and my old reliable i5 sits burbling along at 45-50% usage. I slapping in a GTX 770 4gb tonight and I fully expect that although I'll get better performance, the CPU will now be my bottleneck. I'm a recent FSX convert and I love X-Plane. I love it cause of it's excellent community support and it's ability to properly utilise the hardware I can throw at it
  3. This may be old news to everybody else, but I've just discovered this and I'm blown away. In the Google maps (browser), there's a button in the bottom right that tilts the map (this may be the Google Earth plugin). When you click this, the map automagically becomes a 3D map. They're somehow making the building pop up out of the map and they become 3D entities. Not just building either, but terrain, flora and fauna! All I need now is my plane and I'd be a very happy VFR bunny!. Come on Google. Give us a flight simulator Edit: It doesn't appear to have global coverage. I checked Lyon initially and then my home town of Reading
  4. I take it you're running some kind of extended scenery outside of the default or something like HD Mesh v2?
  5. I'm a recent FSX to X-Plane convert too, although I don't have the SAAB (yet!). I can say with my hand on my heart that it is soooo worth it. I go back occasionally to FSX, but don't enjoy my stay there less and less. X-Plane sure has it's own frustrations, but overall it justs feels better. I LOVE how easy it is to install new aircraft and scenery. We need a sticky on this forum that's something like "X-Plane guide for FSX/P3D users".
  6. It seems also that many people forget (or more likely are blissfully unaware of) the struggle with developing a sim (and consistent UI) that can work on multiple OSs. I can tell you from a commercial software developer of some 15 years, it's a royal PITA. Let's see FSX, P3D or DCS do that! It does sadden me that folks feel that they can load up a stock sim like XPX and compare it to a highly modded (and tweaked!) FSX and then subsequently give up cause it falls woefully short. I enjoy both FSX and X-Plane. They both satisfy my armchair pilot itch. Can't we all just get along?
  7. For me, what would have been useful is an X-Plane transition guide for FSX/P3D users.
  8. Sorry you're having problems using the latest version of the app. I'll take a look when I'm not hammered in my day job. using 0.1.x is a good compromise as the later versions only really added functionality and didn't fix any show stopping bugs. On a side note, I've had over 300 downloads of the various versions, but little in the way of forum feedback or custom checklists. If anyone reading this is using it then please spare a moment to post your experience and maybe even share any customisations that you've made to the checklists.
  9. This was my first my first taste of a flight simulator back in the heady days of the ZX81 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvY4roVg7YQ
  10. Funny I was getting EXACTLY the same symptoms as above with the Duke B60 v2. I found that by rapidly clicking left and right and moving the mouse around the VC that they would come back for a while only to disappear again a few moments later. Most frustrating. I have the Aerosoft Airbus Extended and also the A2A C172 both patched to the latest public release and haven't experienced the issue so far with these aircraft, but then I had two days of trouble free use out of the B60 until last night too.
  11. Yes it can. That functionality was included in v0.2 after it being requested.
  12. Thanks Jim. I can see now the topic views are at 70. Couldn't see a single view before.
  13. I've always admired flight sim videos where checklists were performed using audio capture and thought for a long time about purchasing some of the commercial offerings. However being a commercial software developer and a tight git I decided to (whilst teaching myself C#) roll my own. I won the superb A2A C172 and a slightly modified version of it's paper checklists as my test case. The current release (0.4) is based on the .Net Framework v4 and the Microsoft Voice Recognition API. It is configurable via an xml checklist file. The app will "speak" to you using the Microsoft Speech Engine by default or you can record your own wav files and have the app play those in place of the MSE. The supplied A2A C172 checklist comes with a complete set of wav files recorded by yours truly. I tried to get my wife to record the checklist items but it was just a bit too nerd for her A run through of the app is shown in the following video: ...and you can see it working with FSX here: A2A member "Airworthy" wrote his own version of the checklist for the RealAir Beech Duke Turbine. Here is his video demonstrating its use: Other people have also used this app successfully with Falcon4 BMS so it's use is not restricted to just MSFSX. It is an open source project and all the code is hosted on Google Code. If you want to get your hands dirty and make some mods then please feel free to. The latest release will always be available from the following link. https://code.google.com/p/voice-activated-checklists/ As of v0.4 I've split the checklist files from the main application executable so I can better manage releases. Download the A2A Checklist Files zip and the latest release to give it a go yourself. I'd be interested to hear people's thoughts and of course I'm always delighted to hear of people using it (videos would be great )
