  1. Beau at LM made an interesting and informative post in this thread here: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/topic/oom-when-selecting-plane/ This is what he had to say: Sounds like this might well have a profound impact overall on OOM reduction/VAS management during flight.
  2. For most of us I think using the flight selection menus (select vehicle/weather/time & season/place) will cause OOMs in P3D v2. I am often advised that if I want to make a tube liner flight from one busy area to antoher, I had better start from a saved flight, in order to avoid using these selction menus. Word is that this is now fixed in version 2.5. Is this indeed the case? Can a few folks comment on this?
  3. Not good advise here. Do not use Bojote or NickN or any of that old testament FSX guidance for P3D 2.4 or newer. Much of it is redundant, already fixed in P3Dv2.5 and could even cause more problems. Affinity masks and pool sizes and things like that are good examples. Go to Rob Ainscough's site and look at his settings. Good place to start. The frame fiber addition is also a good one, try that as well.
  4. Just in case anybody wanted to get back on topic, I was going to make the comment that I have done alright 'selectively' installing the photoreal back drop, taking out the large blocks of urban coverage and just leaving the coastlines and airport backgrounds. Been experimenting this way with US Cities LA. So far the jury is still out but I get the feeling that it is better looking and somewhat easier on the FPS, but that might just be wishful thinking on my part. More test flying is required.
  5. I have it, works pretty much fine in P3D v2 as far as I can tell. I used EMT to install but you might be able to just point it to your P3D folder and make it work.
  6. Man you weren't kidding about the whole list of improvements for Sim Director -- the list is a full page long. Honestly I look at this and wonder how anybody ever got it to work, if there really were THIS MANY bugs for it. Would be nice to have a set of 3 or 4 basic flights or missions to use as templates. Take off, fly through a checkpoint, then go land someplace, something with the mission brief in tact alraedy and 'foundation' of the thing all set up. We can use that to edit and experiment with adding features and functions as we go along.
  7. OK I think Colin was out on holiday so I will check with him when he returns.
  8. I have the FSX version of this very good product and I would like to run a native version of it in P3Dv2. It is not clear, though, if I can purchase the upgrade for this for $9.99 as my original purchase was from Just Flight. The product page (link below) makes no mention of any restrictions. http://milviz.com/fs/item.php?id=T-38A However, I spotted this thread on the forums: http://www.milviz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=3889 Evidently there was some kind of separation with JF? Pretty damn short response to this guys question IMHO. Then here in this thread another fellow, Todd Harrell, is told that the v2 upgrade is only avialable direct from the Milviz site. http://www.milviz.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=3912 So what am I supposed to gather from this? I am just out of luck and cannot purchase the $10 upgrade because I bought my original FSX T-38A from JF? Or am I reading way too much into this and I can just go ahead and hit the link, throw them my $10 and upgrade? After all, no restrictions are mentioned on the product page, and I do have proof of purchase.
  9. Here is a federal government website that actually works: http://www.noradsanta.org/ Merry Christmas!!
  10. Hey personally I like their stuff. Wasn't able to get the FSX version of the 777 working in P3D v2 but I had no problems at all with the 707, C30 & B52.But at least on the 777 they do offer a P3D version. Not wild about the price but hey it is new and people want it. Those guys aren't stupid, they know the PMDG 777 is coming and they know that a lot of simmers just want one they can fly now. Supply and Demand. Good for them. The support on their forums comes primarily from a helpful soul named Mark in Australia someplace -- not sure if he actually works for Captain Sim or not but he seems to be the driving force over there, in terms of helping folks.
  11. Go to ORBX site and look for triple installer - you might find that you already have it. If not, you just go and download it again from FSS. FTX Global will install to either FSX, P3Dv1 or P3Dv2.
  12. Is this still the case? Or is that full 1.010 installer available somewhere now? Didn't see it on their website the other day. EDIT: Well looky here -- I got it right in my download files, over at Just Flight where I bought it. Nice. Guessing other retailers have updated their download files as well.
  13. Wow, OK so my SSD just went south. That's two of them now, and so I am pretty much done with using SSDs - a topic for another thread, no doubt. The good news is the only thing I had on my SSD was P3D and the P3D SDK. The bad news is that I just lost my whole P3D installation. <sigh> That's OK, I will do a full install from scratch (previously I had it patched) and just gradually add stuff back in. I'll just take my time to smell the virtual avgas along the way. Still I am not able to see how my setup is any different than some of yours, but clearly there is something. I will find it. Good info, regarding the pagefile -- I have mine set to 'Automatically manage paging file for all drives'. Anybody using anything else?
  14. Good God, man, no I am not interested in any of this. I understand your point about ASM and I appreciate that is part of the cause. I acknowledge it and seek work around it. That's it. I'm interesting in a workaround solution TODAY that is a function of finding the right settings, to get in and out of these VAS-challenged airports. I see others doing it, I want to do it too. That's about the extent of my point. I am not trying to make some kind of point or accusation or engage in any kind of hi-level debate. I'm not part of any kind of LM P3D Steering Committee, though I agree with your points that LM is moving in the right direction. I am just trying to test and try settings (not tweaks) that will enable to fly into these airports, some of which are known to cause some VAS issues. Again, don't really care about the ASM support or lack of support, as there is really nothing I can do about it now, is there? I already own the 100+ airports. Now how can I fly my A318/A319/A320/A321 or Dash 8 Q400 in and out of them, GIVEN what we know... the alternative is to just scrap them and not use them at all. That is a far less interesting alternative, you will agree. @DanishFlyer Your post was really helpful -- with exception of the last line which reveals a rather unfair assumption on your part that I have my settings maxed. I do not. In fact my settings are lower than yours. That irritated me a little, but probably I just haven't had my coffee yet. Moving on.... You and I have almost exactly the same system and same addons, so this is very useful. Thank you for posting all this. I run MyTraffic 5.4 (which I read is more VAS/FPS friendly), that is one small difference. You OC, and I have never chosen to do this. I am not opposed to trying it. I run a i7 4770k at 3.5GHz. Perhaps I need to reconsider doing this? Opinions/comments? Then we come back to the Affinity Mask setting discussion. You really seem to swear by this setting -- you see an increase in FPS, but does it help VAS? Another question on your test flight - did you disable any OTHER scenery besides those two airports? I am experiementing with this right now.
  15. Bruce I was also wondering about this (before I down too many brew-skis one night).
  16. I know you have posted once already in this tread about the ASM or whatever it is, and LM does not support it. I get that. But that does not really change the reality that a great many of us have dozens or hundreds of really incredible payware airports that we still want to use in P3D -- and for the most part folks are able. Again, nobody here is placing any blame on LM. If anything I am blaming myself for having the wrong settings or too many tweaks borne out of the old FSX minset. Hell, if not for LM we'd all be on the "Steves DX10 tweaker" forum trying to figure out how to wrestle with FSX CTD/OOM issues. I'm done with that. I want to fly now, before I get old. LM is giving this thing life, and it is the way forward. All we are talking about here, really, is flying tubeliner flights, from beginning to end, and on what settings. Might be I just need to kill AI traffic and I'll never know another care in the virtual P3D world. I hope that's not it, frankly, because I love my AI. So I am just testing and being a bit of a pest, in that I'm asking a lot of questions. BTW I actually did start my own thread, no meaning to hijack this one, but this one seemed to just take off (no pun intended) and after all, I am staying pretty much on-topic here with the OP. Anyway, sorry to be a pest, and thanks for the assistance.
  17. What is the offical gouge on buffer pools? Not needed? Makes no difference? Hardware dependent? Some seem to think it made a huge improvement for them but that was back in the summer when we had version 2.2.
  18. Rob, I know I am asking a lot of questions, but it is not that I do not believe you. Nor is it some sort of attack on LM or version 2.4. Not claiming 2.2 was somehow better from a VAS standpoint or any other standpoint. So no, I'm really not interested in trying to have an intelligent discourse on version 2.4 vs version 2.2 based on any given parameters. I like version 2.4. I like Rob A. Just trying to narrow things down -- which I am doing, slowly (it has been a slog here lately). All I was needing was to ask and get confirmation on the AM question. I have seen others (in just the last few days) on other forums swearing up and down that AF (set to whatever, it's always different) is somehow part of some majik formula. So thanks for once again dispelling that theory. I gather this. I am quite good an inducing them : ) At this point, this is about as good an explanation as any. I might as well restart testing elsewhere, with another aircraft. And I am ready and willing to part with my default 737 at any point (maybe it is the panels which are in .bmp format)... just as soon as I can find another 737 that works better in P3D.
  19. No I don't really cycle thru them all that much, I try to stay in VC. Just for grins, how does one remove Tower view and other views? For the record... are we sure that Affinity Mask does nothing in 2.4? Or is it really hardware dependant?
  20. Oh yes, I copied it over from FSX, I remember. Or the Estonian Migration Thing did. It works fine in P3D, in any case. Or does it? Clearly I need to do more testing in other places with other aircraft. I just assumed the FSX default 737 would be a pretty 'lite' aircraft to test with, as opposed to payware alternatives that I have. Well, yes, I like to save my flights right before starting an approach, because like having a bunch of approaches all set up and ready to go. Still it would be nice to be able to complete even 1 hour regional connections. Today I used this scenery configurator utility to group all my addon scenery in the general geographic areas -- like Nordic, UK, Benelux, and so forth. So while I am not disabling literally EVERY LAST airport that I am not flying between, now I am at least disabling the lions share of them. So I implement this and also the 'start from the FXML file' method that Rob has recommended. This evening I tried the EKCH - EGNM trip again, and I got a little further this time. Saved it and turned it off before the OOM hit, but I could see my VAS approaching 3.8 or thereabouts, so I knew I would not be getting much further. And this was wiered because I taxied away from the gate at 2.75 or so, and as I got down to the end of runway 4L to taxi into position, my VAS had gradually dropped to 2.5 -- evidently moving away from the terminal really makes a difference. Then I took off and it increased back up to 2.7 or 2.8 or so.... and it held there for a while. Changed ATC a few times, and got on my way, but as I started to climb up out of the clouds, I saw my VAS really start to pick up. It jumped right up to 3.6 or so pretty quickly at one point. So there is something going on there - either it is loading a bunch of new weather or loading some new scenery, or both.
  21. Rob I don't know how in the hell you are able to do this. I can't get from Denmark to Norway in the default 737 and I have my settings dialed down a fair bit. I was really thinking that you have way more computing power than I do, and then I read this post: Goodness -- if you are running an i7 3750 @ 4.6 and Titan gpu and you still cannot get anywhere, then I don't know how anybody can. Except there's good ol' Rob chugging away in his CS 777. So there has to be some key variables here.
  22. OK that works. How you save the flight really doesn't matter, just as long as it all gets saved. So you are able to save time and date for your flight? For some reason I keep getting the same time/date every time I load the sim. Good to know, I just thought you had a super-computer. So let me them ask this, Rob: do you often 'disable' airport scenery that you are not using for your flight? If so, do you disable ALL airports, or just the ones that are clearly out of the entire region? Looking for some best practices here.
  23. Slayer, thanks for posting this. I see so many people on forums posting their settings, and they look like they all came right out of FSX. P3D is really meant for NOT tweaking, just fly it, so they say. So I realize that less is more, and it should be more or less ready to go out of the box -- with a few adjustments, certainly.
  24. No I do not, but I am seriously considering it.
  25. Anybody operating this in P3D? The last sentence here scares me off. IRIS PRO TRAINING SERIES - PILATUS PC-21 - 75TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION FSX Microsoft Flight Simulator X with the Acceleration Expansion Pack installed. Failure to have the pre-requisite software may result in either a damaged or broken product.
