  1. Rob good input, thanks for this -- to clarify: Is it OK to start with the CREATE SCENARIO screen opening on loading? I do have a flight set up as a saved flight, but the only think I need to change from that point is the time of day. Can I still make that change from the CREATE SCENARIO menu, or even from within the flight (thru the WORLD menu)? Is one method better or worse from a VAS standpoint? Thank you, Mark Also Rob, if I may, should I disable preload in P3d v2.4?
  2. Carlo, I can usually do this and get going with about 2.5 GB of VAS, sometimes even less, and so I can usually take off, at least, and get on my way with 1.5 GB of VAS left over. But I would not say that is enough to get me to the next airport in my case. Maybe the fact that I am doing my testing at FlyTampa Cogenhagen is influencing this. Mark
  3. BTW turning off ground shadows for 'other stuff' like vegetation and buildings and all that DID help with the FPS. But I don't know that it helped at all with VAS usage. Need more testing.
  4. I am following this thread with great interest as I have a ton of payware airports loaded into P3D. One thought that I have had long before this is that it might be more interesting and fun to just set up the actual approaches to airport X in P3D than to continue to wrestle with making the whole flight. I admit it is a bit of a leap to assume that even THAT will be possible in P3D, in some of the more sophisticated aircraft, but it is something that I am looking into. For me it is not a huge tradeoff because I was never really all that intersted in making a 3-4 our flight anyway. I like a one hour flight. So maybe I spent one hour taking off and climbing out, which is fun, and then I save it and move my plane along my flight plan to the approach point and fly it a bit, adjust my fuel load (to allow for the transit porion of the flight I have skipped), get my IFR comms re-established with ATC and SAVE that whole situation for another day. None of this was meant to hijack your thread -- I am looking for ways to improve my VAS usage as well. So what happens then, Lee, when I untick HDR lighting? I also run FTX Global, ORBX everything, and REX textures.... will that seriously impare my night lighting visual experience? Other things that have been suggested, in another thread in this forum, were to remove VSYNC (trying that now) and get rid of ground shadows for everything but the user simobject (this I think has begun to pay dividends).
  5. Thanks Jim, I appreciate it. Will test that both ways. Do you run any secondary monitors, or panels or whatever? Mark
  6. For some reason I have not yet nailed down, I do get some OOM in V2.4 when flying tubeliners (even default), but not so much flying GA aircraft. OK now, granted, that is generally while using AS Next (undocked on a second display) and running an undocked instrument panel on a third display. The main P3D VC is on my main display. The other two displays are 23" touch screens. All have the same resolution, 1920 x 1080. I also use Track IR some, but not always. I don't think that is what the cause is, in any case. Processor Intel® Core i7-4770K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3501 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 16.0 GB Name NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 Win 7 64-bit I have never tried to OC. I do run MyTraffic 5.4C and a lot of addon scenery, but I am doing my testing right now with default aircraft. We all understand that A318/A319, and A320/A320, and QWE and Majestic Dash 8 Q400 and the rest are awesome but they have some effect on VAS. Runnning Rob's settings as shown here: http://www.robainscough.com/P3D_V2.php I have taken out some HIMEMFIX and AFFINITY MASK settings from prepar3d.cfg file. Also I have the current FSUIPC running as well as simconnect. Questions: V SYNC -- should this be set ON? Does it have any effect on me using multiple displays? Single Monitor Display in NVIDIA Inspector -- should I set this to multiple? Windowed Mode or Full Screen Mode? Or does it even matter in P3D 2.4? Hoping for some guidance to help me narrow down the settings.
  7. Lee I was interested to see how you made out. I am having similar issues. Mark
  8. Existing TP aircraft is what, a half dozen or so? Dino's got his working, and Aerosoft if coming out with their F-14 'real soon now'. The IRIS A-10A is really the big one in terms of using ability to employ a lot of munitions and make use of TacPack. Maybe the updating won't be that onerous. Damn sure this is the best FSX/P3D news I have seen in a good long time.
  9. I was also wondering that same question.
  10. Guys Get the latest version of ModelConverter X by Arno G and convert the library bgl files to P3D format. Your buildings will show up. Ripcord Did some how-to instructions over at the Taxi 2 Gate forums (here): http://www.iflysimx.com/topic/1004-cuba-in-p3d-v23/
  11. This is a relatively new item and it did work fine until recently; now I get to aileron or elevator response at all, while all the rest still works fine. Even when I calibrate in Win7, there is no response for the X/Y axis. I believe the cause might have been plugging in my old X52 HOTAS at the same time. So I have started down the journey of using FSUIPC to map functions, or at least I have decided to do that. Have not really gotten anywere with that yet. My problem is illustrated PERFECTLY here in this video that I found online, so I at least know that I am not alone here and it isn't some freak occurance. I have started also to remove all the Saitek YOKE drivers from my registry. So far that has not helped, or maybe I have not gotten them all. Not sure how to remove SAITEK driver files from my system.
  12. Well, at some point, yes I wanted to get proficient at creating missions in P3Dv2. I was building my skills in FSX, up until I hit a point where I just decided to dump FSX altogether and make the transition (a little earlier than I planned) to P3Dv2. I had been using FSX ME by Jim K and Instant Mission for FSX by Flight One.
  13. MJ Been watching your progress -- I was familiar with FSX ME and I miss it, now that I have moved onto P3Dv2. Would really like some kind of improved GUI interface such as FSX ME. I saw somewhere that it is possible to start SimDirector without starting the whole sim. Have you experimented with that at all? Was thinking it might be more convenient to try to build missions 'offline' that way.
  14. Yeah I agree. Maybe do a little discount for existing FSX customers, but still charge something for the additional content, however minor.
  15. So far I have not been successful, trying to convert the bmp textures to dds. I don't really know what in the hell I am doing, so it could be that this is the right track, but I've not been able to make it work.
  16. Damn, I would hardly refer to Tongass X as a hole in ORBX scenery. It is still better than 2/3 of the converted FSX-to-P3Dv2 payware scenery out there (let's not compare it to products that were developed for P3Dv2 right out of the box). True it lacks a P3D installer but again, it works for many of us. I don't mean to dismiss the troubles that some folks are having but I am just not seeing them -- or maybe I am having them as well and just havent found them yet.? Maybe there are some components/textures in ORBX libraries or Global that are supporting Tongass X in someway, without actually advertising it.
  17. Are you using EMT to install it? I am not having any issues that I can find -- Sitka looked great and I just made a quick flight from Klawock to Wrangell and noticed nothing wrong.
  18. I have been messing with the DDS converter and the regular textures are converting but the panel is a serious issue. Somebody that knows something about how to make a panel in P3D would probably have to roll up their sleeves and apply themselves to make this work.
  19. Yes sir I did. And I have also had good luck with other CLS aircraft, just not this one.
  20. Well, that was helpful, I suppose. I AM still trying to get the DC-10 to work, but no luck so far...
  21. Hey Bruce, I posted almost the same question a couple days ago. Please see the excellent responses I was given in this thread -- might be useful for you: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/452671-getting-simconnect-into-p3d-v2/
  22. You would use .dds format, certainly. When I look in the FranceVFR\LFMT - Montpellier Mediterranee\Texture folder I see all .dds files (be sure to back up the folder, of course). Note that LFMT scenery is P3D compatible, to your point above, and there are no .bmp files at all in that folder. So yes I think you are on the right track here. I might do a bit of experimenting with this and see what I can come up with.
  23. It happens. Probably very similar to the troubles I am having with CS777 (works fine in Legacy Mode).
  24. I concur, it is just some bad textures that FranceVFR is going to need to update. Because they are autogen objects I am not really sure where to find them in the file structure.
  25. Actually saw a couple other reports suggesting that it does work alright in P3D v2. Picked it up on sale, and at first glance it seems to function normally in P3D v2.4 -- if I find any issues I'll post back here but it seems to work fine.
