Help! Something seems to be very wrong with my TB10 and 21
EDIT: Original email removed. Apologies. I managed to accidentally buy the justflight tb10/20 rather than the LHC 21. That will teach me to buy things when I am distracted and have too many windows open! Thanks for reading

Any updates on the performance of 5820K/Haswell E in P3D?
BabtridgeMcJoystick replied to OzWhitey's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcHmm well this is an old thread, but as I have been spending a fair bit of time trying to get my 5820K based rig working with P3D 2.5 I thought I would post. I have been really happy with it, mostly flying an A2A Cessna C172 with Orbx addons and regions. I have a GTX980 as well, and generally with the C172 frame rates are enjoyably high, when I bother to look I am usually seeing 50-75 out of town, with maybe dips over densely populated areas down to 35+ if I fly low enough. I have bought myself the aerosoft A319 and paired it with Orbx Palm Springs. I have not put my REX addons in yet, but I have been experimenting with maxing sliders and seeing what happens. With everything absolutely max I am seeing about 20+ FPS, but the dips are annoying. Scaling back some sliders a little boosts the frames up into the 25-30 region. Resolution is a weird custom one, about 1920 x 1500 as I am waiting for a new 2k monitor and am using an old TN panel with NVidia DSR. I don't have software to take trends / data, so if someone can recommend me a good program I will collect some figures. Looking around at YT videos made with 4790k's with the nuts OC'd off them, at least from a subjective 'smoothness' perspective I think the 5820K really does quite nicely. I am running mine at 4.5GHz and with HT off, which really seems to make a difference. Havent bothered with affinity masks, though P3D is using all the cores. Not tried FIBER FRAME FRACTION yet either, but OPTIMIZE PARTS does nothing at all. Core 0 is indeed maxed, but that is true no matter which aircraft I use. As an aside, the sim looks BEAUTIFUL. I cannot wait to get my monitor. EDIT: Just quickly took the airbus to Heathrow for a take-off, with Orbx Open LC Europe handling scenery duties. Still with everything, and I mean everything, at max, min FPS was 13 but mainly hovering around 20. Not where you want to be for simming, but provided here as an indicator of power. Now if I can just get rid of the annoying terrain shadow flashing problem, I will be very happy. SPECS: 5820k @ 4.5GHz 16GB Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 @ 2666GHz 2 x EVGA GTX 980 SC ACX 2.0 (though not SLI'd, am under impression P3D doesnt like it) Samsung 850 Pro 512GB, at least for sim duties H105 AIO cooler Superflower Leadex Platinum 1kw NZXT H440 Various controllers. EDIT 2: Hmm it seems that having hyperthreading off has actually given me some more headroom with my overclock. Just pushed it up to 4.625GHz, and FWIW is stable on a 15 minute realbench test (usually fell over immediately above 4.5GHz before). With P3D that seems to have given me a buffer over 20 FPS with everything still at max (graphics, not tried AI yet).

the FTX (ORBX) website has been off-line, all morning....
Having said that, the Orbx site literally just came back online as well. Just good timing on your end. And now my addons all show up.
-
the FTX (ORBX) website has been off-line, all morning....
I am also finding that FTX Central 2 is no longer showing my installed add-ons. Does it work by polling the Orbx servers before letting addons run, e.g. is it DRM? EDIT: Also I had a ton of problems last night with FSS, the site was super slow and sent me several purchase notifications. Really hope I didn't use the site during a hack?

Weird rotating blue or grey patch under all aircraft
I am actually still in 2.4, I have been holding off upgrading due to the Orbx incompatibilities and also laziness.

Weird rotating blue or grey patch under all aircraft
Hello I noticed something odd with all the aircraft I use in P3D. There seems to be a blue or sometimes grey polygon that rotates with the user view under the aircraft, which you can see when on the ground. Its most noticeable when you open the door and look out, but if using trackir and turning your head, you can often see it then. You do not see it when in the air, its only when on the ground. Anyone know what this is, and preferably, how to get rid of it? Thanks!

Enhanced Oculus Rift Support - DCOCv2
I know this is an old thread now, but for anyone struggling to read gauges who has a GTX970 / 980, try using dynamic super resolution and bumping the res of the DK2 up to 4K. It completely transforms the gauges and makes them readable just by leaning forward - at least in a small cockpit like the C172.

No ATC fuelling option at Palm Springs (KPSP)
Hi I am at KPSP, I have the Orbx addon, (don't know if this makes any difference), and I am trying to get the ATC to direct me to a refuelling point. However when I press '8' for parking and fuelling options, I only am offered taxi to parking / gate options. I am using the A2A C172 addon, and to add another layer, the DK2 with the DCOC plugin. I COULD use the A2A fuel and load balancing, but this is not available in the rift, so I'd like to do it the proper way! Anyone come across this? Or can you just not refuel a cessna at Palm Springs?

Dino's F-14D is crashing in MS:FSX
Hi there Thanks for the suggestion, there doesn't seem to be anything recorded in the error logs that I can see (I found them by opening Event Viewer in W7). I don't get any error message, it just simply closes FSX. Are those the right logs to be checking? EDIT right ok its my fault. I reinstalled FSX On this machine a few weeks back and obviously didnt get round to putting the acceleration DVD on. Apologies!

Dino's F-14D is crashing in MS:FSX
Hi I have got MS:FSX Gold edition installed. I followed the installation instructions and verified it is compatible with the Gold version. However when I try to run it from the aircraft screen, FSX just crashes to desktop. Its the version on the main page of his site: http://indiafoxtecho.blogspot.co.uk/ Any suggestions?

OK what did I do wrong :)
Hi there Thank you so much for a superbly detailed reply, I really appreciate it. It all makes perfect sense, especially the part about the venturi effect. I will definitely be studying the chart you provided, that's a cool (no pun intended) bit of info. Just before I put pitot heat on, I flipped on the fuel pumps, I don't know if that could have had an effect? But I think you may be right with saying that I just came out of icing conditions - the nose had been dropping for a while. Anyway its a great way to learn, making mistakes like that in a sim is probably the only way to make mistakes like that!

X-Plane occasional hitching
That would be cool. Is skymaxx pro kind of the REX 4.0 for XPlane? Back on topic, I found this thread http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=82099&hl= over at the X-Plane forums, and it looks like the mod guy believes it to be an Nvidia drivers issue. It can't be to do with drive speed, or at least I would very much hope not. I am running the Samsung 850 Pro which is meant to be the very fastest SSD you can buy without going up to M2 or whatever its called. Hopefully this will come down to NVidia putting out a new driver. Sadly it seems that if you own a maxwell card you are out of luck, as the older, non-stuttering drivers are not usable with maxwell. Thanks for this John, looks like it may well be the culprit. Should be good for anyone not running maxwell, as I understand that you cannot get pre-344 drivers if you are on a 970 or 980.

X-Plane occasional hitching
Hmm cant edit my older post so have to start a new one. Done some more testing this morning (nice being on annual leave lol) and it looks very much like it DOES come down to clouds. I tried putting every slider to zero, (and the key piece) turned off clouds in the weather tab by setting to 'clear' at all altitudes and setting to minimum on the rendering tab. Whilst there was still the very occasional, tiny stutter, it was smooth. Then I gradually started turning up all the other settings, until I had all the sliders pretty much at full apart from objects which I left in the medium / high range - just so it looks nice and filled out. Tiny little hitches, only a fraction of a second, started to come back, but were infrequent and not as invasive as before. Turning texture resolution to very high made a small impact, but this seemed intermittent. Then I turned the clouds back on. I had read a performance guide (very old) that suggested certain types of cloud are worse than others, but to be honest it doesn't seem to make that much difference which ones I selected. Once clouds were on, the one-second hangs came back, even with every other setting at minimum. So, to get rid of hitching, I either need to disable clouds, or find the right combination that doesn't affect my machine too much. However, it does seem odd that with everything else at minimum and clouds on, the problem persists especially on very capable hardware. Possible incompatibility? I am running an X99 rig. I really hope a solution can be found. Also I got a replay of psycho boeing driving up the side of a cliff if anyone wants to see

X-Plane occasional hitching
It could well be, though of course that would be quite dismaying given its running on one of the fastest SSDs available :( I wonder if it doesnt like DDR4? My CPU is running at 4Ghz too. Now I think about it I have my nvidia 3d settings configured for my oculus rift, I will try making an XP profile. Are there any good recommended ones anyone knows of?

X-Plane occasional hitching
OK I am on a bit of a mission now. I am using the same flight path each time, departing Innsbruck on runway 8, then flying roughly bearing 070 once leaving the runway threshold until I meet a bend in the river. With object settings at "a lot" you should see two triangles of static carvans (depending on your scenery packs). Its at this point I always get the lock up, sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. Hopefully people can repeat this. I tried the following, repeating twice to make sure of the result. Values were changed independently, not cumulatively: Reducing clouds completely to zero: Still get hitching Reducing trees to zero: Still get hitching Reducing Objects to zero: Still get hitching Then I got tired Weather download is off, Anti-virus is off. No TrackIR. Most other sliders at max or ON etc. Latest NVidia drivers. Nothing conclusive, but I will try other things. By the by, whilst trying to take screenshots, I met PSYCHO BOEING. The first time I met him, he raced to the end of my runway (yes, my runway lol I was already on it), wafted back and forth with smoke pouring off the tires, then basically did a handbrake turn and hammered it towards me. Result: Scuse the jaggies, its running on a monitor from 1783. NASA were in a massive hurry. I saved it as a situation and twice he decided to ramp himself up the side of the mountain, and the third time he just sat there. So I took off over him

X-Plane occasional hitching
Hi guys EDIT: OK I just did a test with my Centurion, and what I was finding was the hitches are in the same spot every time. I took off from Innsbruck, and the hitch happened when I got to a little bend in the river every time, so It looks like there is something X-Plane is doing when it hits that boundary. It locks for a full second or more with the centurion (complex model), half a second with the C152 (less complex), and about a quarter second with the Cirrus TheJet. Downloadable weather is off. Clouds at 89%, other objects are around medium settings. Most everything else is at or near max, though I am yet to replace my little 1280 x 1080 monitor (yeah I know). Setting NVidia DSR to HD resolutions doesnt seem to impact performance much at all however, if thats any indication. ORIGINAL POST: My apologies for not coming back to the thread sooner, I have been fighting with P3D / FSX to try and get ORBX up and running Thats what I get for treating myself to all the sims to see which one I like best lol. Now I think about it, I did have the weather download thing active. I know this because I loaded up somewhere and they had 26 knot crosswinds. My little cessna decided it wanted to roll, and roll, and roll... (is that normal?). I think I turned the weather download off after that but don't recall if it stopped hitching, I will have to test. I have no addons at all except a little Cessna 152 and.. something else. IDK I had a binge in the Carenado sale. No scenery packs or anything at all. I was flying a default Cessna at the time. Oh yeah it was the Cessna Centurion with the glass cockpit is the other one. But yes its odd, lots of very capable hardware yet still the hitching. Its not a show stopper, but when you have splashed out on lots of expensive silicon you feel compelled to sort it!

OK what did I do wrong :)
Hi there I am learning to fly, and am loving the experiences so far. There's been a lot of tweaking, reinstalling, buying addons etc, but thats all part of the fun isn't ^_^ Every time I do something wrong, especially something catastrophic, I like to learn from it! So this one seemed pretty useful... I was just trying P3D out to make sure it was stable on my machine before adding in ORBX and co, and I took the Mooney Acclaim out for a spin. So far I have been focusing on Cessnas only, so I don't have a clue about this aircraft. I had never had the weather set to wintry conditions, so I gave myself some driving snow. Nice effect, but I thought "maybe I can get above the weather" and put it into a climb. I am still learning about prop and mixture levers and when to use them, but I was a bit surprised that neither of them seemed to make a difference when I started losing power. The fuel flow gauge said nearly zero, so I flipped on the fuel pumps (note this was an air start so I assume everything needed for normal flight was running?). No change, starting to bleed off speed and altitude. I looked at the indicated airspeed and it was stuck on zero, so I assumed it had iced. I found the pitot heat switch. Just as I flicked it on, the engines roared into life, beeping started and I overstressed the airframe, I guess from the combination of slight dive and added engine power? So, what happened? Can you ice up fuel lines, and my turning on the pumps broke through it somehow? Or does the Mooney just not like climbing in the cold? I noticed you cannot select "both" fuel tanks in the Mooney, only one or the other. Nice looking plane though, for default

X-Plane occasional hitching
Hi I appreciate this may be a very common question, but whenever searching for a solution to this kind of thing, the choice of words becomes very confusing and leads to going round in circles! I am a beginner. I have Steam X-Plane installed on an SSD (Samsung 850 Pro), and am seeing what I would call hitching, but others might call it stuttering, momentary lag etc. Basically the sim is nice and smooth all the time, however I am seeing momentary, quarter second lockups similar to what I used to see in sims when I ran off a mechanical drive when it was loading scenery. I had hoped that 16GB RAM and an SSD would prevent this? I don't have any scenery packs loaded and apart from some carenado planes I added, the sim is stock. I understand there is a difference between frame rate and smoothness of running? I have all settings at max, and am seeing good frame rates (above 25 for Carenado Cessna Centurion and 75+ for a freeware Tupolev I found on here) so I am assuming turning some stuff down will help, however I would like to know exactly whats causing it and why. Any ideas? My setup is: 5820K (4.0GHz) GTX980 superclocked (not running the second one for X-Plane as it hates SLI) Corsair Dominator 16GB RAM 2666MHz Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD Cooling is provided by a Corsair H105 AIO.

Install FTX Global on FSX AND P3D?
Hi I have FSX on my machine and have now also installed P3D. I bought and installed FTX Global for FSX, but it is compatible with both. Can I get FTX to install to both? As I understand it, when it installed it just found my FSX root directory, so I am wondering how to convince it to go and install in P3D too. Thanks

Installing Acceleration Pack AFTER FTX Global (Orbx)
Hi thanks Doug It says I have FSX Deluxe installed Is that later than SP2? I bought it as a DVD off amazon not that long ago. By the by I just installed Orbx FTX Global and I am getting odd behaviours now. Crashing sometimes on loading, and weird black graphical artfefacts when flying that plane with water skis you get with the base game (sorry cant remember name of it). Sigh, the fun of flight sims

Installing Acceleration Pack AFTER FTX Global (Orbx)
Hi I just installed FSX base game, and without thinking overlooked the acceleration pack. I put Orbx FTX Global in, so now I am wondering is it OK to just add acceleration? Or will it overwrite things that FTX put in? Thanks!

i5 4690k vs i7 (4790k)
BabtridgeMcJoystick replied to ceno's topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcTo OP and with respect to Dan, in general I would disagree - you will see a performance advantage with the 4790k, so please do make sure you research in-sim benchmarks if buying. There is no substitute for raw numbers and I have definitely seen favourable comparisons for the i7. Bang for buck may be another question entirely but the i7 is "only" £80 more (compare that with 5960 vs 5930 prices )

i7-5960X & X99 & DDR4 - performance?
BabtridgeMcJoystick replied to a post in a topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcYeah that probably sounds like a good idea! Its just unfortunate ASUS customer service is so bad. I think usually their boards are good so you don't find out how shocking it is. No phone contact available (for EU), 2 days between emails, they do not read what you have written, stock responses, and when you push (with more follow up emails) they suggest things like "buy yourself a new BIOS chip and see if that helps". I thought I just DID buy a new BIOS chip, when I bought your £300 motherboard?? And now I need to do £20 exploratory surgery? Yeah, that sounds fine <_< I've put upgrades and things in rigs before but never a complete build like this, and to be honest the whole thing with the Deluxe has just made it a really unpleasant and stressful business. It certainly makes me think twice about buying their stuff, and ASRock too who come under Pegatron as well IIRC. They will almost certainly share customer services.

i7-5960X & X99 & DDR4 - performance?
BabtridgeMcJoystick replied to a post in a topic in System Hardware: PC | MOBO | RAM | CPU | HDD | SSD | PSU etcInteresting. It was like I could have predicted that response I have just RMA'd a Deluxe as well. Was getting poor overclocks, the thing would boot hang, crashing in the BIOS screen, "overclock failed" when there was no overclock... X99 support threads seem to be chock full of people with similar issues. Not saying they are all bad, but the Deluxe looks like it has a higher failure rate than normal if the noise around it is anything to go by. My supplier is being difficult with the RMA but once sorted I will be looking at other boards. Has anyone had reliability issues with any others? I am wondering if its an issue with boards or with the chipset. This is what I am wishing i had gone for now, in fact I am looking at just buying a Z97 board, RAM and a 4790 and having done with it, put the 5820K and RAM in their boxes until someone does something with the boards and chipset. There will be a lot of X99 mobos coming out, maybe they can really start to make the chips sing. Yup same issues with the Deluxe.

Recommend a Benchmark / Stress Test for Flight Sims?
Hi dazz Thanks for replying So what I am wondering is, would you be able to suggest a kind of "torture test" combination of addons etc you might wish to see in FSX, so that the benchmark can then be run? Or does FSmark need to be run on vanilla? If not, would simple frame rates a la normal gaming banchmarks not be a good indicator? Apologies for the noobie questions, the opportunity came up and it seemed too good to miss!
