  1. Yes, of course. I said i'm using ht=on. With ht=off am=14 gives an even worse result. Gpu is ati r9 270x oc 1.250mhz, maybe it needs more cpu assistance to load the scenery properly.
  2. Turning ht=off on my cpu (i7 4790k) result in 4-5 fps increase but much worse texture loading even with tessellation maxed. No cfg AM setting (84 gives very bad result to me) and sometime i turn off core 0 in taskmanager and enable it again in very busy sceneries (otherwise it is not necessary). Ht works fine
  3. Greetings I have a problem running ftx global with europe open lc (and vector) updated for p3d A portion of water masses (rivers, lakes, sea)not loading properly and looking black as it doesnt receive light. After a while the issue will eventually solve. There are not blurries inland and this doesnt occur with ftx region water. Gpu is ati r9 270x (oc or not doesnt change things), cpu i7 4790k. P3d settings: water medium to ultra no difference no flagged options. Shadows medium. Rex 4 32 bit water dx10 animations medium or dark shallow water settings Any hint?
  4. Gerard, tks for the information, i'm still using 2.4... how is, in your experience, 2.5 regarding FPS vs. 2.4? tks again
  5. I have 4790k safe @4.7ghz on air (CM 212=30€), to have i54690k at same clock speed you need to spend the 100$ of difference in the cooler or however the difference will be reduced a lot. So no sense, you have to compare stock speeds... and that shows at least 10% more performance even on single core tasks.... no story with HT, that for me is working just fine. The simmer always want more and more from his system, installing addon after addon... have 2 monitor? Why not 3? So you will be thinking "yes it is good, but with I7 or 970 would it be better?" And you will end up buying it or crashing your hardware with insane ocing. So if you are going to install the better addons just save money before the better hardware you can (not spending 1000$ for CPU because that is non sense imho, if you are not milionaire) and buy addon along the way....
  6. Nobody said that is not decent. The meaning of my post is that if one is going to spend 500-1000$ in addons like implied in the thread, than it is better invest 100$ for a better cpu (gpu a part). It is just an advice, given because i know this hobby can make you pretty perfectionist, so you can regret later to have choosen a second best hardware, after you pirchased and installed all the addons you were dreaming... Also i ynderline that in my experience the difference is noticeable. If the guy is content with i5 better for him because he is getting quite best value for money, but this hobby is not for accountants...
  7. Are you sure about that? So you mean I5 4690K is equal I7 4790K as for P3D Performance? I don't think so for the following reasons: 1) I7 has, at stock speed, 0,6GHZ more core clock speed 2) HT=ON gives me better results than HT=OFF using addons (specially ASN)... also i think P3D development will improve HT usefulness. 3) I compared my I7 4790K P3D perormance with my brother's I5 4690K ones and experienced about 20% FPS more. Nothing scientific there i have to admit, but benchmarks results are similar so I believe that this is more or less the difference between the two. I would suggest going for I7 4790K and GTX 970 to avoid having second thoughts when it is too late.... the value for money is not much worse and still very very good IMHO. I do not know if 5fps on a basis of 20 for you are worth $ 100, but considering the cost for ADDONs i think it's better to be safe with the best hardware on the market (ex. cpu currently off the market prices, costing 1000$ or so), at least for CPU which is still the most important part.
  8. WOW wonderful to know that! ! We were all waiting for such a contribution to this thread! What system do you have BTW? Nasa Computer? I read a lot of satisfied comments so i am wondering why coming here even bothering to post instead of flying to 100 FPS?
  9. ok maybe just do another test in the middle of PNW wild montain area (a lot of trees) with a saved game. Same test but with ASN on in offline mode no significant difference Anybody else?
  10. Is your plane on autopilot? You said you were going to fly! jokes apart, in this thread are we deliriously? I do not think as the performance improvement is unquestionably one of the most important ("marketed") features of this product. Does this thread show that it is impossible a performance boost from Trees HD? No, it seems that in some circumstances, for some systems, with some settings there can actually be an improvement, even if it should be tested more. is therefore the behavior of Orbx been above reproach? no, at least not for how it was presented the product the product is cheap, so who cares? perhaps, one is free to read it or not, but imho it is also a matter of principle: we can not allow any developer to take us for a ride, even if it is the most blazoned. in general I see a little 'too much outrage when criticism this developer appear. Perhaps it is for this reason that this thread is so long. EDIT: Done other numerous 60sec. FRAPS tests on FTX CYSE (NA Squamish), that shows no significant and consistent FPS boost Trees HD on or off with 1K or 2K textures.
  11. Just tried 2048 and noticed a small and unexpected improvement in FPS activating TREES HD NZMF OFF 2K= 42.967 NZMF ON 2K= 46.300 PAYA OFF 2K=50.300 PAYA ON 2K=54.650 The improvement is around 7-8% i cannot understand why, infact in the manual i can read: "Note that raising your TML setting above the default value is NOT REQUIRED for Trees HD to function properly. If you don't wish to raise your TML setting, Trees HD will still function properly, you will get a noticeable improvement in tree appearance, along with the performance improvement." Also i think P3D default textures are max 1024 so i cannot understand why 2K textures with TREES HD OFF actually give worse results than TREES HD OFF 1K texture! (50,3 vs 53,7) EDIT: probably FTX airport textures are also 2K....rex i set all to 1K I need to try again
  12. no, in the manual they say that with 1024 you can have better fps but i will try 2048
  13. I think one can blame ORBX if they write in product description that it "will" improve performance and it is like a cheap CPU upgrade if he cannot see it, because they have no placed conditions or limitations for obtaining that but rather gave the trumpets great voice ("IMPROVE" CAPS ON). Given that, it is sufficient a number even minimal, but statistically significant number of cases in which there is no improvement to make their marketing misleading. This is not an opinion, it is a fact: they put that like a plain upgrade for all and that is not, do you think that is not serious? Is not worth 3 pages of this thread? What are we discussing here? If the trees are beautiful or not is an opinion and therefore does not count, but the fact that at least some will not see increase in FPS is indisputable. it is known how this aspect is important for simmers so they could pay more attention and care. BTW i just finished my first test: FTX PAYA and FTX NZMF, ASN OFF (clear sky) A2A Piper Cherokee. RIG=I74790K, ASUS Z97-P, 8gb RAM, ATI R9 270X. Settings, Rob's one Tree autogen very dense. TEXTURE SIZE (TLM=1024) FRAPS 60 seconds (straight takeoff) on 2 sessions FTX NZMF OFF=50.417 AVG FTX NZMF ON=50.550 FTX PAYA OFF=53.750 FTX PAYA ON=52.333 i made also other less systematic test which confirmed that. Conclusion; no FPS increase over here (i'm seriously disappointed, because i hoped contrary) Also in the current time (season) giving an overview i do not notice a significant improvement in the appearance of the trees (IMHO). Therefore i cannot suggest to buy FTX TREES HD, that is of course MY first impression i will update here.
  14. Hi, your post makes me think i need to explain better the reason of my thread. I decided to post in this thread because the tone it was at the moment "ok no FPS increase but no matter they are beauty" I think it is bad for our comunity that a developer can advertise something that is not there and people don't blame that. They made a very bold statement (CPU upgrade like FPS increase) in the product description that has prompted many to buy the product even if they were not really interested in the trees, seen up close. If we permit that developers who until recently have created fantastic products may rest on their laurels we do not do a favor to the improvement of the simulation I think now at this very moment some will be saying, "maybe i have to buy it if $ 20 increase performance" and probably buy it just because it is an orbx product. As i wrote before i hope that is not the case (but reading previous posts i figured the opposite) i'm right now downloading the product and i will post here when i have an answer (mine).
  15. But improvement does not means >0%? And if you do a "CPU UPGRADE" are you expecting 1% or so or at least 10% (noticeable)? you can run as you want, but if I do not see an increase for me I was sold something to another (read again product description on their site and tell me if it is not misleading, in case the majority of users do not have this increase ). Same here!
  16. thanks for the information Jay, so i suppose that orbx testers are using low-mid end systems? Or if i limit frames to 100 i cannot see the improvement? ha ha. I think the majority of us is limiting FPS in sim or externally so... it would be a relevant information to put in the product description?? but I will not judge solely on the basis of tests of others so I guess I will give it a chance... Agreed and i do not think it is possibile (more so!) if the texture size is doubled than default... but again, it would be a relevant information to give in product description, something like: "you can use 1K texture with better FPS or 2K textures with same FPS"
  17. You are VERY right IMHO, because that BOLD statement and used WILL instead of SHOULD. it seems that just because Orbx has released amazing products ( at least of a higher level/scope than the other producers) in the past, then everything is allowed and tolerated. So i say if at least the majority of users do not see a noticeable increase (they said up to 20%, and similar to "a CPU upgrade"!!), thus the credibility of Orbx will questionable to most of us for upcoming products.
  18. ok i'll try again this evening. Did you notice a difference in FPS? I'm very curious to know if ORBX HD trees give a FPS boost because: 1) if it is true it would be a very cheap performance upgrade 2) if it is false i will never ever buy ORBX products Yes maybe is system specific but they actually did not say that "it depends on your system", they say: "The most incredible part is that Trees HD will actually IMPROVE your sim's performance! New optimized tree models reduce the burden on your system, resulting in up to a 20% INCREASE in FPS and no increase in VAS usage compared to what you are experiencing now. Call it the world's cheapest CPU upgrade! Beautiful new trees and a performance benefit to boot? " So no doubt over there, no justification is possible if it actualy does not give an improvement, slight at least. Having said that, I hope it is really so, because it would be an improvement for us all. edit: I think I will buy the product and I will test even using FRAPS, maybe someone does not notice a performance increase because he uses texture 2K? Perhaps the performance increase is only for TML=1024, ie equal than default texture size? . Richard have you revisited it? Can you give us an update regarding FPS gain? thank you very much
  19. Yes that's it, i have the installer for FSX and P3D but i thought it was only for P3D v1 (i was not interested when i bought it because i was using FSX) because it gave a strange error (radio button error looked similar to this: http://www.prepar3d.com/forum-5/topic/ftx-global-base-installation-error-radio-buttonline-13/ so i it looked like a P3D V1 installer to me) I bought Natural Trees X in december 2014 so i do not think it is an old installer, i run P3D V2.4
  20. Please, can anyone experiencing a FPS gain tell me if that gain was against orbx trees or against p3d default trees? if in reality there is no performance boost I think the Orbx may be subject to penalties for false advertising and, especially, cause loss of confidence by its loyal consumers, so I think they actually did some tests about it, it would seem strange to me to make such a bold and clear affermation if it is not true... Another question, this time for DarkstarF16, i own Natural Trees X which i bought for FSX. I tried to install that in P3D v2 but the installer got a fatal error. So I thought it was not compatible with V2 and i gave up. There is an alternative way to install or fixed installer? when I used the addon for FSX I noticed a drop in FPS if I remember correctly ....maybe it is because FSX default trees are worse than P3D ones. tks
  21. Exactly, in FSX/P3D my cores are always running @4.7GHZ. I had windows "power saving" off (top performance selected) otherwise sometimes a core clock may drop for a second and it causes instability. Plus i suggest to apply registry optimizer (you can find it in NickN FSX "Bible" that switch off cores shut down (specially in case of HT=on, like i use that will make all cores work) In my bios if i set core multiplier to 47 (4700mhz) that is the max turbo speed, infact default is 44 (4400mhz) so clock speed will not go faster than 4700. I tried to overclock more the most bottlenecked core (the sims always tend to bottlenck main thread) but single core overclocking doesn't work well for me. BTW I'm running P3D+ORBX+REX+ASN almost max settings with 30 fps locked and stable (not so in metropolies of course).
  22. hello nick, do not spend money for that aged system. start saving $ 600-700 and you take a rig that can give you some satisfaction, in my experience (with that system you will never have enough detail or a smooth flight to enjoy the experience, no matter the settings or tweaks, even with vanilla sceneries, figured with addon... also traffic should be better disabled with that CPU. At least i had a AMD X4 955be running @ 3.8GHZ and i could not add traffic otherwise FPS where too low. And hope it doesn't rain... i didn't even considered buying a payware airport or complex aircrafts in that conditions. What sim experience is that? I5 4690K (250$)+ASUS Z97-P (100$) +ATI R9 270X (150$) +CORSAIR RAM 8GB (100$) +SSD 120GB (100$) = 700$ and you will enjoy. I7 4790K (350$) + ASUS Z97 (100-200$) + GTX 970 (350$) + RAM 8GB+SSD= 1000-1100$ for almost the best possible experience. I know not everyone can afford a new rig, but please do not spend money for addons you will not be able to use (spec. traffic ones). FS could be a really expensive hobby, most for ADDONs cost, so first of all priority should be given to system, otherwise the risk is you spend 1000$ (easly spent for FS) for addons that do not work properly. First hardware than addon
  23. Hi, if you want to save money, i would not buy 16GB RAM because 8gb is more than enough for a 32X application. I have made a similar upgrade but starting from AMD X4 955 which is much worse than you CPU. I think you can get 20-30% more just from the CPU at stock speed. Regarding oc i have the I7 4790K @4.7 with just 1.25 volt and very good temps so no brainer i keep oc. FPS seems around 5-10% better with OC. Do you use FSX or P3D? With FSX i think you are good with 560, for P3D GPU is more important (still less than CPU), GTX 970 is a good choice, imho one of the best value for $. I have an ATI R9 270X OC @ 1.2GHZ, but going back perhaps buy a GTX 970 because with active sky next in some conditions the load goes up to 80% while the main core is not full maxed out, which makes me think that I would get better results with a better GPU... However, in my opinion do an upgrade of your rig with only the GPU makes little sense, if you don't get a better CPU you will use just a little of its potential... CPU and GPU should always be proportional to each other not to waste resources, so go for I7 4790K and GTX 970 and you will not regret it.... edit ps: do not forget to overclock also the cache, it raised cache from 3,9 to 4.5 ghz with better results with core overclocked too (of course), i think cache is quite important for sims
  24. Yes, it is normal to have 100mb "system reserved", i have it too.I have a z97-p and never had a crash in p3d (unless when i had cpu oc to 4.8 with insufficient voltage, which i resolved using 4.7 or when i tried some oc settings on ram and gpu).I would try a fresh OS install, i know it is boring but it could be faster than wondering the reason from the manywhich are possible.Make sure to install the newest chipset. Management engine and audio drivers from asus site.
  25. I dont believe they were radio towers there were too many of them... data corruption, ecessive gpu oc...or maybe it was something strange in my sigaretts... :-)
