  1. Whoa. DeltaWho's link does indeed say 12.1 is next. with 12.0.8 in rc now that means to me we could see a 12.1 beta "in a week or two" (assuming we don't need an 12.0.8 rc2) Id been expecting a 12.0.9 and maybe a 12.0.10, but nope: _____ 12.1.0 is the release where we plan to integrate all of the fun stuff that our graphics team has been working on over the past few months. Expect to see things like: Real Weather Improvement No more square “Minecraft” cloud formations when Real Weather is enabled. Cloud Shadows on Water Better Bloom Lighting Effects RCAS (Robust Contrast Adaptative Sharpening) Softer, less aliased ground shadows MSAA Improvements MSAA resolution that is photometrically correct MSAA of alpha-cut textures Improved CPU Performance Thanks to our new “modern collector” – the code that the sim uses to find all the scenery necessary to draw. We know that many users are now CPU-bound in X-Plane and this is step one to improve their experience in the sim. Better water opacity …because the real world is WAY more polluted than we’d like to admit. 😷
  2. start steamvr check "enable VR hardware" in the VR section of settings. You can also keybind to toggle VR.
  3. they still list the usual suspects. https://flyelite.com/knowledge-base/plug-ins-drivers/ Just not how many times they were downloaded....
  4. The number of times things have been downloaded on that page is comedy gold.
  5. This is enough to get up and running. Game console controllers also work pretty well - set them up like an RC controller. thing to do will the Pro 3D is bind the flappy paddle axis to the collective rather than throttle, pretty much all of them run the throttle on a governor, with the throttle control just there for handling or simulating failures, whereas climb/descend is done with the collective. SmarterEveryDay YT channel has lots of good videos on the theory from a few years back. Aside from mastering the hover and handling an engine failure they fly pretty much identically to a plane. Probably the biggest "facepalm" moment for me early on was that (non coaxial) helicopters maintain their pitch and roll when the cyclic is in neutral. Hmmm, when I get a few minutes, If there isn't one already I might make a "getting started with helis with the Pro 3D" YT vid.
  6. getting close, gradually upside. MMORPG. currently here: Recent priorities has been getting the plugin and documentation up to scratch and VFR comms solid. Into the last known "TODOs" there, for ATC giving traffic patterns VFR/IFR (as above this is now painfully close). Plugin is "into the weeds" Hoping/expecting to wrap up the plugin and documentation this week/probably into next. Then finally on to flight testing IFR in the 744. Only 18 months later than I originally hoped....... 😪 (tbf, it was 18 months of "worth it" extras I had no way of knowing would be needed before hand)
  7. Which is? I was referring to when you said having VR that is an experience you want to go back to requires hitting those minimum fps targets. Hitting those minimum fps targets are not headset or VR related, they are acf related; that as a general rule getting above 60fps mins is only possible in GA aircraft with simple systems or the Sparky744 on very high end PC hardware, with optimised scenery.
  8. VR is. but getting an acf that meets Is currently limited to GA aircraft with simple systems or the Sparky744, on very high end PC hardware, with optimised scenery. Or a PS5 & PSVR2. This is all XP11 and XP12 VR I've added 200 hours on since I took that SS. (but unlike the previous hours, they were all glorious XP12 graphics with no issues and solid FPS)
  9. Tested so far with the Phoenix missiles that come with the F14 and https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/61793-sa-2-sam-site/ As an AI character i've posted some videos of them as they came online a while back. Once it is generally available there is a load of kit that 3rd parties can use to customise it all pretty easily.
  10. vomiting and nausea only happen if you run at less than 120fps. most people are fine with 90fps 60fps is the minimum, anything less than that is unusable for more than 10 or 15 minutes. If you havent seen yet, we are due to get a flood of newbies coming to XP12 next year off the back of aces of thunder on PSVR2 (120fps minimums), who will all share what is now the "can never go back to 2D" meme.
  11. AutoATC's "prime" value is in people using VR and full cockpits. not sure if that counts. VR is the future. even less have the opportunity to experience the setup Mike_CFII_MEL has. Im just saying that $3k+ would be much better spent on an apple vision than replacing his 4 TVs in his live size fully functional 737 cockpit with projectors.
  12. yeah, both also now have an extra filter that mixes in white noise based on reception strength and signal that gets obscured by terrain/valleys/mountains.
  13. aitrack probably better if you are going super cheap. cheaper, just as performent and less hassle. I use that a fair bit these days when I'm testing stuff in 2D. Lot like driving a car with one eye closed tho, neither ever going to give you that terrifying knot in your stomach that depth and speed perception give you as the ground approaches at 150kts. not even 6dof motion platforms do that good a job of that one, as much as we all want one. But obviously ultra realistic isn't for everyone, quite prossibly not even the majority.
  14. Just the outside. can't beat a physical cockpit. You got that already. Well one afaik. With VR you can have all the others _almost_ as good as well.
  15. behaviour all lua scripted now, planes, helicopters, AA missiles, follow me car and animals, with collision detection for both vehicles and missiles and wake turbulence for planes. guns a "todo" after the next round of updates, after I finish all the documentation and 744 ACARs integration. zips installers up on the goahead discord for win/lin and mac.
  16. even 3x 4K projectors is only going to get you like 640x480 resolution "at the window" because so much is wasted (and no rain on the glass). Even a low end headset will beat that. for his setup, other than VR, high end displays mounted in the window is the next best option, projectors would be a downgrade from what he has now. Best option is "probably" going to be the apple vision that launches next year.
  17. have you tried https://x-plane.to/file/769/rxp-xp12-enhancer aiui that includes rain stuff (not had time to try it myself)
  18. Yes, but you got no chance tbh. you'd still need a qualified instructor monitoring the flight even if you jumped through the hoops and expense needed to get the setup certified (not dissimilar to getting a real aircraft certified). what you can do, - that will greatly reduce the time you need to get signed off on the different syllabus items is practice preflight procedures practice patterns practice navigation (map and compass only, you wont be using a gps or autopilot during any training) practice take off and landings. I cant recommend a VR setup enough tbh. 2D just cannot convey how terrifying the ground coming towards you at speed is. I assume this is plane, in which case you will need to learn everything in https://www.faa.gov/regulations_policies/handbooks_manuals/aviation/airplane_handbook By heart. Also grab the POH of the airplane you will be flying. That you will also need to know by heart, XP is great to get a feeling for the contents of that.
  19. Bens message on this to them is very clear. Report it, dont work around it. Regressions get priority, but ONLY if they know about them. This is why we have a beta process.
  20. little more complicated than that tho, isnt it.... https://github.com/dotnet/core/issues/7556
  21. You fixed it for you 😛 I would beg please bug report it as "C172 livery lighting broken (including fix)", those files you overrwrote haven't changed since at least Aug 2017, so this bug has existed for > 7 years... it was fixed for XP12, but only for the default livery. Whoever did that fix was probably using an OS that doesn't support images. Otherwise it would have been obvious.
  22. The _lit files in the livery folder haven't been updated for the new lighting, that is the bug. The "DIY" fix is to grab the updated _lit files (a black texture with a couple of lights) from the objects folder and replace the old ones in the livery folders with it. _lit files are "lighting textures", they define how a surface "glows" when it is given power. Who knows, that could also be a bug in XP11, and no one has noticed it before, or noticed but not reported it before, or reported it but then LR did exactly what I did and say "meh, no idea what you are talking about". ^ limiting this is the #1 benefit of an open issues database virtually every. single. issue. that has broke my balls in the last 3 or 4 years has been "windows being windows". Can't fork a process - windows has no support for fork "module not found" - which module? dunno, windows wont say, text full of ????? - yeah, windows still cant handle text yet, add an extra 100,000 lines of code to your project to work around all the edge cases where the windows API is still 8 bit and maybe you can show "hello world" in 3 more languages. closing powerpoint crashes your computer? - nah, its not crashed, windows just thought closing powerpoint was you asking it to disable all your displays. And, by far my favourite to date. Wife with new windows laptop: The windows key doesn't work Me: googles "windows key not working" Internet: to fix your windows key not working, press windows + R to open a command prompt.... OMFG Yes, I would much rather be spending my time exploring the length and breadth of X-Plane than dealing with that UTTER insanity.
