  1. sure, just don't be "that guy" "That time a customer reported an error in the map used by Flight Simulator" https://devblogs.microsoft.com/oldnewthing/20170418-00/?p=95985 and also. get these "stupid" texture bugs reported, rather than just diy fixing them. XP10 to 11 built up maybe 50 "diy fixes" because org mods/leaders kept saying LR wouldnt fix them. Then when Ben found out about them had something of a rage rant because the reason they hadnt been fixed was because no one at LR knew about them.
  2. Got my hands full with windows being windows atm, some silly people still want to use it... 😞 And you left out that super important bit of info why? just to waste my time making a video, instead of telling you to copy the _LIT files from the default objects folder to fix it + file a bug so someone else doesn't have to.
  3. Imma going full rabid X-Plane fanboi when it releases, and attacking like a wild dog anyone who says it isn't the best thing since sliced bread Even if it's absolutely terrible. Just for that reason alone 🤣.... Joking..... probably....
  4. AutoDGS should get added to those lists https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/87401-autodgs-automatic-marshaller-or-safedock-vdgs-at-every-global-airport/
  5. workaround -> flight, failures, fix all systems before you start the replay. fix -> file a bug report "failures not cleared when starting replay" (crashing the plane related bug reports oft generate the response from LR peeps of "dont crash") AIUI an overhaul of the replay system with more tools for aircraft authors is a wip. But things are getting solid enough now that its almost time to sort that stuff. Interesting find. I would suspect this is aircraft material related, but tbh it could just be that the wings are at a flatter angle than the fuselage and as such shouldn't be reflecting the sun towards you. Or maybe an SSR limitation. XP12 isnt raytraced.
  6. there is also https://x-plane.to/file/769/rxp-xp12-enhancer but i really think the OP is worth a bug report, default XP12 shouldn't be worse than default XP11.
  7. It's funny cos it's true 🤣 But no playing, this is not a game 😇
  8. aiui several of their subsidiaries are expecting to. There have been several job offerings open over the last few years to do exactly that. I wouldn't expect to see more than that because NDAs. Well, the "flight dynamics of the Zibo737" is "Xplane flight dynamics". the ACF doesn't contain much in the way of "flight dynamics", its just a text file, you can open it with notepad. The airfoils do tho. The acf contains the airframe geometry, fuel tank placements an capacities, engine parameters and a load of other things that "theoretically" should be set to their real world values to make the aircraft fly like it will in the real world , plus the panel items at the end. This is why projects like the BETA VTOL are so exciting, not even those "hundreds of thousands simulators" (actually closer 100s of millions, don't forget it costs like $20,000 just to start the engines on an average airliner) have gotten the feedback cycle xplane is now getting, all they do is take the data logged from something like: and stick it in tables.
  9. There's some shots in the very first link, specifically this one (apparently, variation has changed by 2 degrees since I made that...) center column, basically what to add/subtract from the intended magnetic heading to get those nice tight turns and a nice straight line to the next waypoint. give or take any scenic detours. map is for making sure you are going where you expect to be going. I can keep that, but LNM can output all the data needed to populate it, except WCA. Formula I have for that is 1. wind direction - desired heading 2. wind speed * cos (1) 3. wind speed * sin (1) 4. Resultant speed = IAS * (2) 5. WCA = DEGREES(ATAN((4)/(3))) yeah, helicopter... no hands free apart from the odd quick release of the collective to change something on the avionics or turn a page. do that pretty much constantly, the detailed part is for a clean transition from one leg to the next. Mistakes in the turns I found are the key source of navigation errors later. Its grabbing them from NOAA on the version I just downloaded, each leg in the LNM output tables seems to be giving good wind 'M and wind speed, at least what I expected, I replaced the small wind direction in that above screenshot with a large text form in later versions (i.e a big bold NNW instead of a small 327.4), learnt the hard way after the wind changed direction during a flight, also more useful for planning for an autorotation. I'll see how it fares after some flights, I'll still be checking it against the TAFs (METARs are no good for weather estimation more than a couple of miles from the airport).
  10. Think the last time I used it was probably around 2018, Back then you couldn't just stick in EGLL EGCB into create flight plan and have a full flight plan built for you with pretty much all the detail you could possibly want. Not that it was bad before, just that now it pretty much goes head to head with skydemon and comes out swinging quick google: https://www.gfsg.co.uk/cdn/Overview-of-Little-Navmap.pdf
  11. that runway top right though.... looks like a motorcross track 🤣
  12. The two things I noticed seem to be missing, is although it gets wind angle and knots, I couldn't/can't see WCA, having that easily to hand really reduces cockpit workload for VFR (I find it a complete pita to calculate), it also only puts the distance but not the heading & leg time on its map display. The other thing I have in that excel file which I really find useful is the expected cloud bases (based on dew points) and whats currently observed at each leg + VFR/MVFR/IFR/CB flags for each leg, cancelled a couple of flights over the years last minute (including today 😪) because the weather in the mountains was going to be to ugly or there were CBs to near where I wanted to go. So I wouldn't quite say "all I need". But it sure beats trying to make in gimp 😄 Not sure if this is exactly what you mean, but you should be able to use https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/44809-movevr-move-external-windows-into-x-plane-even-into-vr/
  13. When I first started my training for cross country flights I made https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/43863-balkan-area-detailed-flight-planner/ To make the detailed part of my flight plan, and have basically more or less stuck with it since give or take a few minor changes that weren't worth shouting about. For my next flight I thought I would give little navmap a go, been a long while since I used it and saw it had had a lot of loving since then. https://albar965.github.io/ OHhhhh my, leaps and bounds doesn't cover the half of it. this isn't just a recommended app, its verging on a flight and sim essential.
  14. imho, good training is always more about the people than the program. And that's quite the experience they have signed in there https://flightsimcoach.com/flight-instructors/ Has a very "FSA" feel about it.....
  15. Not everyone is complete nutjobs like us who are willing or able to lose a few years of their life (and counting) to get the perfect sim setup while negotiating the hellscape that is flight sim politics. So pretty much the same reasons you would do any course given the sum of all human knowledge (and quite a bit more besides) is freely available online in 2023: Pay someone who knows what they are talking about to filter out the noise. I've actually been contemplating giving something similar to our CFIs, most of them still need your garden variety "is it switched on, is it plugged in" tech support (still working on my ideal sim setup tho....).
  16. There's been a fair few people on the org over the years who do something similar - but this is the first time Ive seen it offered online. I think a lot of people get way to hung up on the "using it to log hours" thing. inflight hour licence requirements are the absolute bare minimum requirement, getting an endorsement requires both the hours on the licence but more importantly and the CFI to "sign off" that you are competent. This is particularly problematic for IFR endorsements, and where xplane shines. https://fly8ma.com/instrument-rating-requirements/ getting "40 hours of instrument time" in real life could actually take several hundred hours depending on the weather. cost saving using xplane with a G1000 trainer can therefore easily be several hundred thousand dollars in aircraft maintenance expense alone per licence.
  17. They are bound to the aircraft, in the _prefs.txt file. Numlock needs to be on n.b. "bind view" is it's own key binding (e.g. ctrl + num 1) not "ctrl + whatever key you bound to go to view 1" (actually took me a while to work that one out)
  18. I take it you are aware of https://github.com/Marginal/SeaTraffic It was recommended to me, but isn't something I have on my current install.
  19. You will get better performance switching to ortho - trade cpu time for disk space. depending on what you want. littlenavmap can be handy https://albar965.github.io/littlenavmap.html there are a few landing rate displays around e.g. https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/43586-a-new-landing-rate-display/ avitab is a must for tubeliners https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/44825-avitab-vr-compatible-tablet-with-pdf-viewer-moving-maps-and-more/ as is terrain radar https://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/files/file/37864-terrain-radar-vertical-situation-display/ zibomod for logging your 737 hours. (I dont have a link for that to hand, its a google drive I think) I do a lot of dev on the 744, sparky744 https://github.com/mSparks43/747-400 For "xp flight planning" the website https://www.airports4xp.info/ Is great for getting xplane specific airport details. Oh, of course, SteamVR and a decent VR headset highly recommended.
  20. I'd go a lot further than that, commercial use of unlicensed IP in most countries is actually a criminal offence, there is (potential) prison time and huge fines for it. https://www.justice.gov/archives/jm/criminal-resource-manual-1852-copyright-infringement-penalties-17-usc-506a-and-18-usc-2319 https://www.cbsnews.com/baltimore/news/md-man-pleads-guilty-in-software-piracy-case/ One of the key reasons I switched to Linux was to make that mine field cheaper easier to navigate. But more than that, there is a "karma" thing going on, I know that is a weird way to describe it, but that can be very real (e.g. getting the Chernobyl virus from a crack they used), or more metaphysical: If a provider is cutting corners on the software, good chance they are cutting even more serious corners elsewhere, that could be potentially life threatening - I'd [almost] bet money the people responsible for the 737Max simulator software were pirating other software. (for clarity, there are no accusations of impropriety implied or asserted here, just more detail "why no one does or should do this" is more than just breaking an EULA or being sued by the IP owner)
