  1. Hi Guys and Gals, The AVSIM File Library is calling all enthusiasts! The growing community needs your help, and we have now opened more volunteer staff positions. We are currently accepting applications for Library Managers to assist us with the AVSIM File Library. Are you a student looking to build your resume? Or perhaps an avid simmer looking to give back to the community? Any and all are welcome to apply. Would you like to join our cause? POSITION OVERVIEW: AVSIM Library Managers, as a team, help process files uploaded to AVSIM, help with all AVSIM Library content, and answer e-mails. AVSIM has numerous pre-written e-mail template responses (and you can also create your own) for a variety of situations in order to speed up the e-mail answering process. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Processing new uploads (daily) and ensuring all newly uploaded files meet AVSIM criteria before processing them and making them available to the public. Contacting authors (through e-mail) if something is wrong with their uploaded files and explaining needed corrections. Our community appreciates a positive attitude and professional calm demeanor when dealing with any contributor, member, or staff member. Managing User Accounts: Updating the e-mail address on member accounts Deleting member accounts Helping members who have forgotten their log-in details Managing all library files and content (updating details, deleting files, adding/removing file(s) required link(s): When needed - editing the description and title fields of files. On occasion - correcting/updating the author field of files. Linking associated files (e.g. updates and/or corrections). Answering library members' and file authors' e-mails - providing assistance. REQUIREMENTS: To be considered for this position, an applicant must provide information (e.g. written introduction, summary of background, experience in similar positions) Access to either TeamSpeak or Teamviewer for training purposes. Able to install, to configure, and to utilize Microsoft Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird e-mail client. Have an account with AVSIM Library and AVSIM Fora. Have schedule flexibility to allow approximately 5 - 10 hours per week. If you're concerned about possibly volunteering 10 hours per week, we want to be real with you here. It's very rare that's going to happen. We work together as a team and most days you just need to check in a few times daily when you have time to make sure the queue is empty and e-mails are answered. So long as we work as a team, and do a fair share, there should never be a day you have to volunteer more than an hour a day. OTHER SOFT SKILLS/ABILITIES: Have a good understanding of Simulators. Have a good understanding of the AVSIM Online! Fora. Have a "Winner" attitude. Be a team player. Communicate effectively. Must be detail oriented. If you are interested, applications may be submitted using our "Contact Us" form from the forum menu or by sending an email to: library (at) avsim dot com. Thank you for considering giving back to the community! Happy Contrails
  2. Through the gracious offer from Marty Arant, consultant to Laminar Research, we can now provide an audio of Rob's Key Note address on Saturday evening at the Awards Banquet of the 2013 FANCON. In his Key Note, Rob addresses the future of flight simulation and the passion that he sees in our community and the need for that passion in the future. This is a zipped MP3 file and it is just over 12 megs in size. You can find it here. Thank you Marty! We really do appreciate it.
  3. Just Flight, the UK publisher of numerous flight simulation add-ons and an innovator in our hobby, today announced they will be exhibiting at the FANCON next month in Wichita, KS. Just Flight joins our growing list of exhibitors. By announcing its presence, once again, Just Flight strongly signals its support of the North American market and hobbyists in flight simulation. If you want to meet some of our hobby's longest serving providers of add-on's and innovation, you should register for the event today. You can register here. If you would also like to exhibit you can get the necessary information and register here. View attachment: jflogo.jpg
  4. AVSIM is very pleased to announce that Robert Randazzo, of PMDG, has accepted our invitation to be the KEY NOTE speaker at the Awards Banquet on Saturday night, May 4th. The Awards Banquet will be held at the Holiday Inn, the FANCON hotel after the meal service. Following Robert's Key Note Address, Reader's Choice Awards and the AVSIM BRAVO ZULU Awards will be presented. We are still waiting to hear from Rob what his topic(s) will be, be we are confident that they will be informative and worth the price of admission. Captain Randazzo is not only an avid simulation enthusiast, but an active pilot and of course, the head of one the best known commercial organizations in our hobby. Register for the FANCON today and do not miss out on this event.
  5. We look forward to seeing you there and we'll be updating the registration and news page as necessary. You can read more detail and register here.
  6. Hello I am using self loading cargo to simulate passengers and specific airline sounds. This add-on shares some features with fs2crew such as announcements, FO callouts, dings, passenger sounds and music. Most of these sounds are triggered at the same time. Although it's possible to resolve most of the "conflicts" by disabling certain options in one add-on or the other, the main conflict occurs with cabin announcements. With fs2crew it's possible to disable PA by moving the slider (FO cabin) to the left, but this also disable FO calls and conversations between crew and pilots (like boarding and closing doors triggers in the PF events). I haven't tried to manually delete some of the audio files yet. In this way, I guess I should be able to avoid "the double PA effect" without disabling the sounds I'd like to keep. In any case, I would like to ask you to consider more sound options in the config menu for the next releases, so to better separate what is said inside the cockpit - and between pilots and crew - from what is announced to the passengers. Cheers Mau

  10. Folks, I'm the first AVSIM staffer here! How many are here already? The front desk said she had a boat load of people check in with more to come yet! For our members who can't make it here, we are going to try and get a live feed going. Still waiting on some staff and equipment to get here. I may try testing my ipad or iPhone as a live camera, but the quality will surely be sub par (which I want to avoid)
  11. We take a great deal of pleasure in announcing that Ron is our Member of the Month for April. At 71 years young, Ron was unanimously voted in by the forum staff of AVSIM as our April MOTM. Ron has contributed both in the forums and as a re-painter of his favorite a/c of the moment, providing downloads in the library to hundreds of fans around the world. Ron's dry wit and acerbic (cough) view of the world has been both entertaining and enlightening to all of us. As a flatlander in the U.K., Ron is both a true friend and a serious contributor to our hobby and our pleasure. Congratulations Ron! P.S. Anybody but me notice that his hats have disappeared in his image and now his hair is somewhat darker than his beard? You would have thought that a re-painter of Ron's stature would have at least used the color picker to also repaint his beard to match his 30'ish looking hair piece. See the citation and read the note on the MOTM notice at the bottom of the Forum Index Page.

  13. This is to inform everyone that the AVSIM Signature Rules have changed http://forum.avsim.net/page/AVSIM%20Pages/sig.html. AVSIM has a simple system where everyone can place system specs and information about your Simulator and various add-ons. We are therefore asking that you remove system specs from your signature and place them in your profile. There's even a place to list your favorite simulators and all of the add-ons you currently own! The information can then be seen by everyone in the sidebar under your Avatar (see my sidebar!). It's easy to do! Just go to your Control Panel (click on your user name in the upper right corner) and click on 'My Settings' and then scroll down to 'My PC'. Remember to review it occasionally and update it as you purchase new things or update your computer system. Our Moderators have been informed to provide you with "friendly reminders" if you forget to remove your system specs so we ask that you do this as soon as you can. While in your Control Panel, look around and update your other information too! Best regards,
  14. Just a note to let everyone know that KiwiFlyer45 has been selected by the AVSIM Staff as MOTM for February! Congratulation KiwiFlyer! You can view all the details at the bottom of the forum main page and view the note attached.
  15. AVSIM is an enduring institution in the virtual aviation world providing a dependable and consistent platform to exchange knowledge and ideas. Over the years many of the leading flight simulation software and hardware gurus have graced these forums, gathering and honing their skills while dramatically increasing the quality of our hobby. Although a few names may stand out above others, the list of unique contributors is long and varied and we thank them one and all. Paul Johnson has put together the AVSIM Software and Hardware Guide for both the DX9 and DX10 versions of FSX. It incorporates the latest and best techniques and the tried and true standbys into detailed instructions on what to do and how to do it. Paul will periodically update the guide as needed on a regular basis as new information, equipment and methods evolve. We hope that you will benefit from the accumulated wealth of knowledge presented here. Here it is: http://forum.avsim.net/fsx_guide.pdf In order to use the embedded links within the guide you will need the latest Adobe Reader found here: http://www.adobe.com...cts/reader.html

This year's Board meeting, to be held in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, in October, has the theme of "The Future AVSIM". Stephen will be joining us and contributing to the path which we will set for our community and the features and services that we will provide in the future. Please join us in welcoming Stephen to this important role and his continuing contribution to our community and its future.

  19. We are pleased to provide the community an update on the AVSIM sponsored Richard Harvey Endowed Scholarship. First, some background. At the passing of Richard Harvey, team lead for the FLY! series of flight simulators, in early 2003, AVSIM opened a scholarship fund in Richard's name at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). Hundreds of community members and commercial organizations contributed to the Scholarship fund. The Scholarship reached over $10,000, at which point it could fund itself from year-to-year. In other words, it became self-endowed. Every year AVSIM receives an update from ERAU on the status and funding level of the scholarship. We are pleased to report the following: Fund Balance as of June 30, 2011: $16,106.36 Fund Balance as of June 30, 2012: $15,700.08 Amount Awarded in 2011 - 2012 Academic Year: $750.00 We will receive the profile of this years Scholarship recipient later this spring.
  20. AVSIM announced at the Saturday Awards Banquet that our Board of Directors have agreed to provide a donation to both the Kansas Aviation Museum of $2,000.00 and a $1,000.00 donation to the Cockpit-Fest USA organization. Throughout its existence, AVSIM has donated thousands of dollars to museums and deserving organizations around the world, including sponsoring scholarships at Embry-Riddle Aeronautic University. We are proud to continue that tradition with our donations announced last night to KAM and the Cockpit-Fest organization. We are confident that both organizations can put the donations to use to further our common interest in aviation.
  21. This is the Power Point presentation that was presented on Saturday night by Robert Whitwell at our Awards Banquet. Congratulations to all the winners and contributors to our great hobby. The various trophies for the winners will be sent out shortly. You can view that presentation here.
  22. We will post the entire presentation made last night at the Awards Banquet later tonight, but I thought folks would like to see the outcome of the Reader's Choice voting. It was very close in a couple of categories. So, here you are. Congratulations to all the winners. You will be hearing from Robert Whitwell regarding where to send your trophy. You can view the voting results here.
  23. What could say more about you than a YouTube video of yourself, your favorites, your sim, your cockpit, your coin collection, your very rare bulikula, than a movie in your Profile. We are pleased to announce that you can now add a YouTube video to your profile for all to see when they check you out. To put a video in your profile, go to your UCP and SETTINGS. On the left side bar, you will find a link for YouTube videos. Click on it and put a video (or videos) in your profile. The information you need to put in is the ID of the VIDEO. Not the URL, but the ID that appears in the URL of the YouTube for your video, such as "tdj3QwRy1vc" which happens to be the ID of the video you will see in my profile. Keep in mind that all AVSIM Terms of Use apply to what you put in your Profile as a video. Do something your mamma would not want to see, and it probably will result in some not so friendly Moderator's response. Have fun!
  24. Rob has been a consistent, credible and well thought of member of our community for quite awhile and has earned our first MotM award for 2014! Congratulations Rob!
  25. The 2013 Demographic Survey is now concluded, and we are pleased to present the results to the community. We think you will find this information interesting and useful in your future involvement with our hobby. We look forward to your interpretation of these results.
