  1. Hey guys, I have just re-installed Prepar3D. I have downloaded 737ngx BASE PACK with ADMINISTRATOR, and I have made sure I have all right permissions. I clicked the 737 in the scenario screen, but for some reason the activation menu will not pop up. No buttons/panels will work either. Please respond soon. Oskar Rocko P.S The activation menu popped up before and worked before I re-installed Prepar3D. P.S I have read a forum on this before, and I tried alot of what they said. It may be some registry or some FNPLicensing problem Idk.
  2. Hi! Installed P3D v3 today. When i try to install the PMDG aircrafts (737800900) (777LR) etc, i get a warning: "Unable to locate Prepar3D.eve. Unable to install. I a´have the latest installer and i unpacked it in the same drive where i have my Prepar3D installed. What should i do? /Jacob

  4. Johan Dees has been a member almost since we opened the doors to AVSIM and a member on this forum since we replaced the original in 2002 with this one. Johan has been a steady contributor to the flight sim community and is a well recognized face in the forums. Congratulations Johan!
  5. I would like to update everyone regarding the system issues that appeared to crop up over this last weekend and the steps we have taken to remedy those issues to the extent that we have been able. First, let me put this rubric to bed; the system issues WERE NOT caused by the addition or modification to the forums software. Some people like to harp about us adding functions and having things "break" when we do. That is not the case and in fact, we have not added new functionality in quite some time. If anything, we are guilty of removing TOO many functions. We noticed issues started to crop up on the morning of June 27th; that's last Thursday, and it started just before 10:00 a.m. We noticed a barrage of hits from the Verizon system and they numbered thousands over a very short period. We have reported that activity to Verizon and have requested they let us know the result. We'll see if any of that happens. The next thing we noticed was that there was a hundred plus attempts to crack into our Admin Control System. The crack attempts came from an IP that showed the attempts were originating in the Netherlands. We took a step that we had postponing doing simply because of the effort necessary to accomplish it; we "hid" the control system. We have software that can sit in front of the forum software and repel DDOS attacks when we recognize them. We brought that online over the weekend as we continued to get hit. The downside to this action is that it has an impact on all users logging in from anywhere in the world. The major consequence is system slow down for everyone, but certainly faster than what was existing during the DDOS itself. We started looking at modules as well to determine the impact they have been having and the possibility that something broke. We did a complete removal of all but the most fundamentally important modules, and what you see today in the forums is the result. We may bring some of those back online once the system stabilizes. One of the other things we did is shut off access to all of the forum structure by GUESTS; that is, people who have not registered. We did that to lighten the load on the system as well and to give us an opportunity to measure the positive or negative aspects of that move. As of an hour ago, we have flipped the switch and have let guests back into the forums. However, over the next couple of days, we are going to be removing access by guests to certain forums to maintain a fair balance and sustained performance for our registered members. So, as I write this, where are we? We have re-installed TapaTalk for all of the 30 or so users that access our forums daily using it. If it proves to be problematic again, we will permanently remove it and never re-install it. We have removed various modules as indicated above and we will selectively bring back online some of those depending upon performance impact by them. We have a system now in place that looks for and prevents proxy server access, access from unidentified locations and so on. Performance today is very good. We are not seeing the slow downs that we have seen over the last couple of days, and we are keeping an eye on accesses and locations. Okay, so that is where we stand at the moment.
  6. It is that time again; Spring Cleaning (okay, a little late, but hey, we get there eventually). We're going to commence pruning (read delete) of unused or underused forums. These will not be archived, but deleted. So, if one day you come into the forums and notice some absences, you will know what happened. While we are at it we may well be combining some forums as well. Jury is still out on that but if we see combinations that make sense, we'll see what we can do.
  7. To all of our members and guests, may your Christmas Holidays be safe and enjoyable. If you do not celebrate Christmas, please accept our best wishes for the holidays and our sincere desire for your safety and prosperity in the new year. To all; thank you for your continuing support of AVSIM and to the many who contribute to our hobby every day. Please have a safe holiday and new year! We want to see everyone back here on January 2nd!
  8. With the continuing advancement of P3D by Lockheed Martin, more flight simulation enthusiasts are experimenting with, if not adopting entirely, this flight simulator. However, there is considerable confusion over which third party products currently available can be used, without violating your EULA or other restrictions, within P3D. Questions such as: Does my existing End User License Agreement (EULA) allow me to use my add-on in P3D? If not, do I need to purchase another license to install it in P3D? Assuming my EULA allows me to, will my current product work in P3D? And there are many more. We recently have had some incidents within the forums that arose from lack of knowledge concerning products, EULA's and use within the P3D simulator. As a result, we have undertaken a survey of commercial providers about their EULA's and products for P3D. You can find the beginnnings of this here: http://forum.avsim.net/page/AVSIM%20Pages/p3d_.html

  10. We are pleased to announce the opening of our new Quiz system! The Quiz system will be populated with quizzes that test your knowledge of flight, aviation in general, and of course, simulation! With this announcement, we are also announcing the position of Quiz Master. We are looking for a community member, in good standing, who has been in our hobby and aviation for some time, and who would be interested in creating and managing quizzes in our new quiz system. This is a volunteer position and would require that person to provide a quiz no less than once a week to staff for placement in the Quiz system. If you are interested in this position, please send an email to staff@avsim.com and let us know. You can access the Quiz System by clicking on the menu selection above, or by going here: The AVSIM Quiz System.

  12. On this day, at approximately 10:00 p.m. EST, four years ago, AVSIM was hacked. Or, as it turned out, destroyed from within. You can read the full story here. This is not so much a time of reflection on the hack itself, but on the response of the flight simulation community; you. Without the support and contributions from our readers and community members, AVSIM as you know it today, may not have existed. The community INITIATED on its own a fund raising effort and in the end, contributed over $30,000 to our rebuilding and future system growth. This story is about those of you who saw something in AVSIM that deserved saving. This is a story about those of you who wanted this thing called AVSIM to continue. This topic isn't about the hack necessarily; it is about you and your memories of the time after the hack. Why did you contribute? Why was AVSIM worth your contribution? Your thoughts about then and now? If you lived through those times, give us your insight into your perception of events then and the hindsight that you possess today. You can join the discussion of the hack and give us your insights and comments here.
  13. On both Friday night at the combined Cockpit Fest and AVSIM Social, and Saturday night at the Awards Banquet, AVSIM will be giving products to a few lucky ticket holders. A growing list of sponsors will be contributing products to these raffles. DCS has donated multiple download keys to their P-51, REX has provided some very impressive certificates and keys for their REX Essentials Plus with Overdrive for FSX / P3D, and FLIGHT 1 will be providing multiple products for winning attendees. We look forward to seeing you there and that lady luck is on your side!
  14. The AVSIM Reader's Choice Awards closes this coming Sunday, March 31st, at 11:00 P.M. EST. If you have not yet voted, we encourage you to do so. If you have already voted and vote again, your second vote will be ignored. Vote today and let your favorite producers and freeware authors know you appreciate their work! You can vote in the Reader's Choice Awards here.
  15. We have just updated our news categories and stories that we will accept. Here is the revised statement you can read when you go to submit a news release: Bottom line; we are accepting news for real aviation events, news, etc. as well as from museums, air races, etc. If you have a news item, please submit it via the link that you can now find on just about every page on AVSIM.
  16. We are thinking about changing the image posting rules. Please read and provide us your opinion. First, a great contributor to the AVSIM processor load is resizing and display of hosted images; that is, for images that are saved and displayed by our system here. Images hosted elsewhere are also resized to in order to fit our rules of display size. Second, the availability of free storage space on the Internet has become easily accessible to everyone. Examples are Dropbox, Google drive, personal sites that allow you to host images (like Google's Picasa albums, etc.). Here is what we are considering: AVSIM's screenshot forum becomes "hosted elsewhere" only. We shut down all upload rights to the SS form, Real Aviation photos etc. The only images allowed there will be those that are hosted elsewhere. Images that show examples of issues and which meet our size requirements and are appropriate for the other forums will be allowed to be uploaded in the other forums. In those forums where hosting is required, we would allow as many images as the poster would like to put in the topic. Again, we are just thinking about this change. How do you feel about this step? You can participate in the discussion in the forums here.
  17. Last Wednesday, March 20th, AVSIM met with and engaged an experienced team of IT specialists to aid in growing AVSIM and to maintain its robustness and responsiveness to our community in the future. They bring to our team skill sets that are applicable to our entire range of our present and future architecture and systems. Together, we are creating a road map for our future growth and stability. We will be working on that in the coming weeks and months. We will be adding substantially to the road map as we optimize our current system and prepare it for future additional hardware and software tools. Some of the things will be doing in the future include: Immediate Action Items: Replace three existing hard drives in Forum Server. Add two additional hard drives and configure for full RAID configuration. Near Term Action Items: Remove and replace all File Library drives with 1 TB units. Add two additional 1 TB units. Review MySQL database and optimize. Review hardware; Switch, NAS', Backup Storage system Longer Term: Add G5 as Test Platform Transitioning: When available in 2014, transition forums and library to V4.0 software. Reconfigure architecture to accommodate transition and improve efficiencies further. Of course, all of this assumes we can afford them and be able to keep the connection to the net alive at the same time.
  18. We are going to be revamping the current member's Reviews System. That requires removing the database and basically starting all over. Our apologies for those that have contributed reviews recently. We ask that when we do bring the reviews system back online that your recontribute your recent reviews. Thank you for your understanding in this. We want to have the best review system in the hobby, and the path to there requires this action.
  19. In the new Member Reviews System, products that are provided for members to review are entered into the system by staff. Once in the system, members can write reviews for those products, provide comments on the products and the reviews, and much more. This thread is established to provide you a place to request that we put a particular product in the review system so you and others can provide reviews for that product.
  20. Hi, I have been looking for a virtual airline that is part of an alliance so it will allow me to use it's codeshare routes and still record time flown (preferably Sky Team (even more preferably Delta Airlines)). I would also like an airline that operates a lot of routes and aircraft, especially the 737, 747, and 777, however, (this isn't mandatory), I would like an airline that doesn't require insane amounts of hours to fly these types of planes. Thanks for the suggestions in advance! -BudderBall
  21. In the Flight Control Panel is the presentation of HDG and Altitude not correct. In HDG is 33. It should be 330. in Altitude is FT 1000. It should be FT 1000. In the PFD is the correct information. I useFSX and Windows 10 How to fix this problem?
  22. We are pleased to announce that the AVSIM 2014 Demographic Survey is now online and available for you to participate in. You can access the survey here. The demographic survey is an annual event for the AVSIM community and we encourage you to participate. This annual survey is important because it helps us tailor services to the community and provides our freeware and commercial members data to plan future additions to our flight simulators. This year, we have added questions for real world pilots among us and numerous other questions regarding your hardware preferences and configurations. Join your fellow community members and take the survey today! This post has been promoted to an article
  23. We know that folks like to see the forum and community stats. Here are the stats from the fist of the year up to 1500 EST today. This does not include the library stats, which you can find from the main page of the library itself. New Topics Total Posts New Registrations Top Ten Forums Library Bandwidth Used in the Last 30 days Number of Downloads in the Last 30 Days Library Growth over the Years Added library stats just for fun...

  25. As I am sure you have noticed, we were off line for a couple of hours today. Our MySQL database took a nose dive sometime last night and we finally were able to put it right. We will be doing some further work on the database system and will let everyone know when we expect to go off line, if at all, to do that work.
