Hi, I have decided to upgrade my flight simulation rig by making my own simple cockpit. I have everything else thought out but I have never done anything with multi-monitors on computers. I'd like to have 4 monitors for outside viewing, setup B737 style. The 5th monitor I would have as the 2D panel view for instruments. A full list of what I'd like to run: 4 outside viewing monitors/TVs 1 smaller monitor for instrument panel Saitek Yoke, Saitek rudder pedals, and Saitek throttle quadrant (1x) Saitek switch, multi, and radio panels Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX) I'd be building a custom frame to mount this all in. Here are my PC specs: Windows 7 Home Basic 64 Bit 8 GB RAM/Memory AMD FX 8350 Eight-Core Processor, 4.00 GHz AMD Radeon R9 270X 2GB Two 1TB hard drives (one is C:\) Let me know if I forgot something on system specs. I want to know if this PC/graphics card can run what I requested with the monitors. If so, I need to know how to set it up, because I've never done multi-monitoring before. I wanted to check if this would work and how to do it before I jumped in and bought the monitors and started the build. Thank you!

I'm running 3 monitors for FSX with a Virtual cockpit on each one. I have the default VC view on the center and then a view on each side that has been moved in the appropriate directions so it looks like they are views out the pilots side windows.... I also put some instruments on the side monitors (GPS, overhead). It works great and looks fantastic.... until..... If I go to anything that leaves the flight screens (go to the menu to get your landing ILS info, go to the Virtual Flight Path screen to turn it on, etc) - when I come back out of the menu the scenery is messed up and frozen on my 2 side screens but is fine on my center/primary. The view itself seems fine (inside of airplane look OK) but out the window it looks like just scrambled up pics of the airplane or something and it doesn't move. Also, the instruments I had on my side screens all of a sudden go very small and I have to stretch them back out. It works great aside from this so really want to find a solution so I can really enjoy it. For reference, here is my hardware: Gigabyte Z97X Gaming 7 Motherboard Intel I7 processor 8 GB RAM Radeon R9270 Graphics Card Also, I have the same issue when only 2 monitors are connected so don't think the resources are my issue? Thanks! Jeff

Hello, I am currently planning to enhance my FSX experience in a custom-built PC (homemade off course) and what I am thinking is a multi monitor set up with 3 1080p computer displays, with a joke, pedals, throttle quadrant, comm stack, and maybe one additional LCD display for instrumentation purposes. This is off course a rough draft because I am wondering what hardware selection would be best for this type of mini-cockpit set up. My budget is quite flexible but moderate. In that sense, this is the type of components that I am thinking in terms of hardware & software... 8GB RAM DDR3 1833MHz 3 1080p Displays + 1 display for instrument purposes. Saitek Pro Flight Joke + Throttle Quadrant Saitek Pro Flight Pedals with Toe Braking Saitek Pro Flight Comm Stack TrackIR 2 HDDs; 1TB for Windows OS (not sure whether to go 7 or 8) and 320GB for FSX. Microsoft Flight Simulator X Gold Edition SP2. 750W Power Supply These are the unknowns where I would gladly accept suggestions for hardware given my set up... Currently thinking of using a Haswell Motherboard (thinking of this candidate from GIGABYTE) and using the Core i7 4770k or Core i5 4670k. One last thought, given that we are talking about FSX, should I just go for the Core i5 4570? As for the GPU, I am actually unsure of which one to pick. I know that most of the agreement here at AVSIM is that the Nvidia GPU is the best one for FSX. Which Nvidia GeForce GPU do you guys recommend for a multi monitor set up for FSX? I am willing to accept an AMD wildcard suggestion because I have seen some YouTube videos showing FSX multi monitor set ups using AMD GPUs with their Eyefinity technology. That's all for the moment and I appreciate your answers and suggestions!

I have two monitors... one a 30 inch Dell (60Hz) and the other a 22 inch Alienware (120Hz). FSX starts up on the main monitor (30" Dell) but when I load FSX, it opens on the secondary monitor and my main monitor goes black. The opening screen on the 22" monitor is like it was opening on a 30" monitor but on the smaller 22" monitor so everything is huge when FSX first starts up and I definitely can't see the scenery in front of the aircraft until I click on the monitor and reset the size. I then have to go to windowed mode on the secondary monitor then drag the screen over to the main monitor then Alt-Enter to go to full screen and all is well. Has anyone else experienced this? I ask this as I usually get a StackHash error when closing FSX in DX10 mode. If I leave FSX on my secondary monitor then close FSX, the StackHash error does not occur. I also do not get the StackHash error when in DX9 mode. Only when I drag FSX over to the bigger monitor. Just wondering if anyone else using two monitors are experiencing this too and if a fix has been found. I have done a Google search on this subject and this has been an issue since DX10 preview was released and with multi-monitors. Maybe the wideview program would fix it? Best regards, Jim
